Bug#642594: RFP: libterm-ansicolor-perl bug #642594

2011-09-25 Thread Damyan Ivanov
-=| Kirk Kimmel, 24.09.2011 22:09:07 -0400 |=-
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=642594 :

 Package: wnpp
 Severity: wishlist

 * Package name: libterm-ansicolor-perl
   Version : 3.01

The newest version of the Term::ANSIColor module exports two new
functions colorstrip() and colorvalid(). In addition, 32 color
constants are exported, up from 16 in the previous versions.

Version 3.00 seems to include the needed functionality too and is
included in perl 5.14 in experimental (in perl-modules package).

I was able to build a deb with cpan2deb and test installed it on
 6.0.2 with no problems.

I wonder if it is worth the hassle to introduce a newer
libterm-ansicolor-perl package and drop it a couple of months later[0],
when 5.14 enters unstable.

[0] a pure speculation on my side

3.01 (in perl 5.15.2) seems to additionally contain some fixes, that
seem like a good thing to have[1].

Bug#642801: ftp.debian.org: Please support dpkg-source format 3.0 (git) in our archive.

2011-09-25 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Dear FTP team,

There are now 4,921 source packages maintained in Git repositories
(http://upsilon.cc/~zack/stuff/vcs-usage/), and for some of them the
dpkg-source format 3.0 (git), for which support is available in Squeeze, would
be natural and convenient (not to mention innovative).

According to Russ Allbery's notes from the notes from the DebConf 2010 source
format BoF (http://lists.debian.org/87wrrxhlr7@windlord.stanford.edu), there
are worries that the Git history may contain non-free or unredistributable
files.

I propose to discuss this in this bug report what would be the steps or the
policy to implement in order to have the format 3.0 (git) acceptable for our
archive. For instance, we could decide that new packages enter Debian without
history, and limit the depth of the history to one or two release cycles. We
could also decide to trust fully the packages native to Debian or developped by
Debian developers. There are more suggestions in the notes that Russ has taken
(see above), as well as other concerns not related to the redistribution of
files from the Git history.

What is the current position of the FTP team ?

Have a nice Sunday,

Bug#641806: unoconv: Please consider adding minimal dependencies for conversion to PDF

the package description suggests, that unoconv converts to all supported

For a minimal working setup to be able to convert to PDF it is necessary
to add at least libreoffice-writer and libreoffice-draw to Depends.

OK, I promote libreoffice to Recommends instead of Suggests. In the
past, openoffice.org-core metapackage depended on writer and calc but
this seems no longer the case. The reason for not using depends is to
allow the user to not install calc if she does not want to convert

I have fixed the asm3 package recently. Sorry for that, because it
triggers some packaging bugs. The asm3.jar has been a symlink to
asm3-full.jar in the past but it is now the real core library. Some
packages relied on getting the full library by referring to the core
library only. I suspect the current bug is in clojure. I'll look at
it.

Bug#642803: libmouse-perl: test suite failure on ia64 causes FTBFS

2011-09-25 Thread intrigeri+debian
Package: libmouse-perl

Hi,

Mouse test suite sometimes fails on the ia64 architecture, causing the
whole package to fail to build from source.

Note that the very same buildd that exposed this problem recently
succeeded in building 0.91-1+b1, which has the same test suite
= this test suite failure does not seems to happen every time.
Too bad CPAN Testers is currently down.

The failing test was introduced in 0.82, which accounts for the
failure not happening on previous versions.

Okay, the bug is in /usr/bin/lein. The line 66 must be changed from

CLOJURE_JAR=/usr/share/java/clojure-1.2.jar:/usr/share/java/asm3-all.jar

I am not able to commit the change into the git repo because I do not
understand the vcs layout. It looks like that I have to rebase the
patch-queue branch but pushing a rebased branch is a bad idea. Please
explain the workflow of modifying the source code in README.source.
BTW, I prefer the git-buildpackage layout.

Bug#642805: base: kernel modesetting bug in wheezy. Blackscreen after init starts and udev runs

2011-09-25 Thread Edward
Package: base
Severity: important

Wheezy kernel modesetting bug.

I found a workaround for this bug and I am now convinced the bug has nothing to
do with modesetting. It is rather a bug that is caused by a failure of the
kernel to turn on the back light of the laptop (Acer Aspire 7715z).

The workarounds:
a) use acpi_osi=Linux as a kernel parameter and press Fn + Left Arrow to turn
the back light on when it is incorrectly turned off by the kernel.

b) use the command as root: setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00 The above command can be
included in a startup script.

Thanks.

2011-09-25 Thread Bernhard
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Package: lightdm

Severity: normal

I have a fully automated installation with preseed files.

Content of the package part of the preseed configuration (lightdm-part):

 d-i pkgsel/include string \
 ...
 lightdm lightdm-gtk-greeter \
 ...

During installation of my Debian system, there is the message of the
already installed file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.
I have the choice:
- - Installation of this file with the version of the package maintainer
- - Keep the already installed version
- - See the difference of the two versions
But i can't do any choice during installation of a new Debian.

If i have a look at the console (Alt+F4), i see:
- - First, there is lightdm-gtk-greeter installed.
- - Immediately after lightdm-gtk-greeter, there is lightdm installed.
During installation of package lightdm, there is the message of the
already installed file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.

I don't know exactly, which package installs the file
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf first.
I assume, this is lightdm-gtk-greeter.

If you need further informations, please let me know.

Bug#642807: sqlite3 --help displays -batch argument but man sqlite3 does not contain this argument

2011-09-25 Thread Hong Xu
Package: sqlite3
Version: 3.7.7-2
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropiate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   1. execute sqlite3 --help on bash;
   2. execute man sqlite3 on bash

   * What was the outcome of this action?
sqlite3 --help displays -batch argument but man sqlite3 does not contain
this argument

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
The document should be the same.

It's confusing that whether -batch exists in this version or not.

Bug#642808: should not fail if configured interface is not present or not up

2011-09-25 Thread Marc Haber
Package: radvd
Severity: wishlist
Tags: ipv6 upstream

Hi,

currently, radvd fails if it is started for an interface that is not
yet present or not yet up. This leads to network failures if radvd is
started on an interface that appears dynamically, such as VLAN
interface or a bridge.

In the bridge case, kernel behavior was recently changed that brX only
changes to the UP state when the first interface is added to the
bridge. The kernel developers think that it is a good idea to mimic a
phyiscal interface in that regard. In the very common virtualization
case, this means that the bridge won't be in an UP state until the
first VM is booted and attaches itself to the network. This behavior
has been verified for both Virtualbox and KVM setups.

On the netdev mailing list, I received the answer that the kernel's
new behavior is fine and that the applications should hang around and
wait for the interface to become usable. So we need to change the
applications.

Greetings
Marc

strange, since doc build has been well tested.
I'm currently working on 2.6.2-1.
on this specific topic (doc building), it has a workaround in case
there is no internet connection, which is the only potential issue.

If it's not the case (ie you have a net connection), can you set

Bug#642816: libsqlite3-dev: static link to libsqlite3.a always failed if the program calls sqlite3_open

2011-09-25 Thread Hong Xu

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropiate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

Save the following code to tmp.c:

#include sqlite3.h

int main()

sqlite3_open(test, sql_handle);

Then compile it:

Bug#642401: further information

2011-09-25 Thread Anthony Campbell
On further testing I find that this error only happens if I start gvim
from a tiled window. If I start it from a fullscreen terminal it works
correctly, unless it is the first window I open. In other words, I need
to have at least two fullscreen terminals open for things to work as
expected.

Bug#642821: RM: mpdcron [kfreebsd-i386] -- RoDepMaintainer; dependency won't build on kbsd-i386

2011-09-25 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: ftp.debian.org

Hi,

Please remove mpdcron binaries from testing and unstable on kfreebsd-i386.

Full story:
- ruby-nokogiri doesn't build on kfreebsd-i386 due to known problems with
  ruby1.9.1 and kfreebsd
- so it won't migrate
- the only solution to let it migrate is to get rid of the mpdcron
  binaries blocking migration on kfreebsd-i386.

  (see http://release.debian.org/migration/testing.pl?package=ruby-nokogiri)

Bug#641566: scenic: patches for various Ubuntu build failures

2011-09-25 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
FYI, needs one more patch for ubuntu/amd64.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scenic/+bug/852540

On amd64, configure script uses /usr/lib64 as boost library path.
However Debian boost packages use /usr/lib for libraries.

Attached patch to fix it to use --with-boost-libdir at debian/rules.

Best regards,

will there be an upload soon to get that fix into the archive? (s390x)

I didn't bring the topic to debian-release yet but we started to convert
Qt/Qt WebKit/friends to multiarch:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-kde-talk/2011-September/001636.html

Qt WebKit upload depends on when Qt multiarch could happen. Another option
suggested by Pino is to upload latest Qt Webkit now without multiarch bits.
I would prefer to start Qt multiarch transition and fix this bug at
the same time.

Opinion?

Attached an untested initramfs-tools hook script for bootchart2. It is
based on the dracut bootchart2 config file taken from dracut version

I don't run a kernel with initramfs so again this is not tested and i
have no clue about initramfs-tools. Beware, this script could hurts kittens.

So if you are comfortable with initramfs-tools please take a look or
poke the relevant people. After the script is found to work fine the
last thing one should do is to add rdinit=/sbin/bootchartd instead of
init=/sbin/bootchartd.

Bug#624199: xserver-xorg-video-intel: rendering stall/corruption in mythtv

Since upgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel to version 2:2.15.0-1 I have been
experiencing what I thought was screen corruption when painting the mythtv
menus -- various rows in the menus would fail to appear and would blink on and
off as I scrolled through the items. However I just left it for a little while
and it seems that eventually the menu elements do get drawn, I'd estimate that
I've seen delays lasting from 10s to 30s, although I've not used a watch.

The issue appears to affect entire menu elements, such as individual menus
 rows
or entire information boxes, including the text and backing box (I'm not sure
what they correspond to in the OpenGL model). You can see what I mean in the
attached Good.jpg vs Bad.jpg (a bit blurry, sorry), various menu rows are
missing as is the program details box.

MythTV is configured to draw menus using OpenGL and video playback appears to
 be unaffected.

This is an up to date Sid system but with the Squeeze 2.6.32 kernel and mythtv
 (+ related) packages from debian-multimedia.org.

Downgrading to 2.14.902-1 makes problem go away.

I can't see anything in Xorg.0.log nor dmesg. I had a bit of a trawl through
the Debian and upstream BTS but nothing jumped out (it's hard to know what
keywords to use for an issue like this though)

Hi Ian,

is this still reproducible with the latest software stack? (linux 3.0
or 3.1, X 1.11, intel 2.16 and mesa 7.11)
If yes please file a bug upstream per
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html and let us know the

Yeah probably, mainly I'm wondering if there's some clue when the freeze
  does happen.

These are the only things happening.

I also had one - possibly unrelated - crash, forcing me to reboot. I then
upgraded to whatever was in sid a week ago and now there has been some
improvement: the freezes are now quite short, perhaps 15 seconds or so. On
 the
other hand, that means I do not have enough time to attach a debugger to X
 from another machine!

Do you still get those freezes with linux 3.0 or 3.1, X 1.11 and intel
2.16, or has the behaviour changed again?

Bug#619398: libpulse0: license issue, compile client LGPL

2011-09-25 Thread Alexander Kurtz
severity 619398 serious
thanks

Hi,

I'm raising the severity because pulseaudio's copyright file[0] says:

Hence you should treat the client library ('libpulse') of PulseAudio as
being LGPL licensed and the server part ('libpulsecore') as being GPL
licensed. Since the PulseAudio daemon and the modules link to
'libpulsecore' they are of course also GPL licensed.

Since the client library (libpulse0) still depends[1] on libgdbm3 which
is GPL2+[3], the above copyright notice is apparently incorrect.

The only thing that confuses me, is that the maintainers seem to have
switched to tdb quite some time ago[3] and have also released a few new
versions in the meantime. Maybe debian/rules also needs to be modified
like your original patch[4] suggests? Any comments?

Best regards

Alexander Kurtz

Bug#642594: RFP: libterm-ansicolor-perl bug #642594

  Package: wnpp
  Severity: wishlist

  * Package name: libterm-ansicolor-perl

 [1] http://api.metacpan.org/source/RRA/Term-ANSIColor-3.01/ChangeLog

Perl maintainers, what would you recommend?

It's unlikely that 3.01 will be included in any 5.14 release, based on
my understanding of the 5.14 maint policy, so if you want that fix, it'll
probably need to be packaged separately (we could patch it locally if
needed, but that is likely to confuse more than help; I think we've
avoided upgrading CPAN modules in perl except for serious problems).

Otherwise, it's likely that 5.14.x will indeed end up in unstable before
too long; that's certainly my hope, although I've not heard back from the
release team on #637809 yet.

If you want to upload libterm-ansicolor-perl before then, no objections
from me; we'll pick up the addition of the new dual-lived module package
with Niko's nifty scripts, and include the relevant control fields in a
subsequent upload.

Cheers,
Dominic.

Switching virtual terminals works, and everything else appears to work fine
(this bug report is being written on a

 restarting gdm.

Marked as important because the two available workarounds do not work: using
the fbdev driver crashes the kernel, and
the vesa driver always gives no screens found error (despite exhausting all
 possibilities in xorg.conf).

Is this still an issue with updated kernel and X stack? Is it also an

Referring to the attached JPG of the notebook display (oriented right-of

Bug#642603: git - too many hardlinks in /usr/lib/git-core

Whatever the actual limit _is_ (I couldn't find clear numbers),
upstream seems to consider it a problem and would probably be
   open to patches fixing it.

They intend to fix it, but this needs a format bump, something they do
not lightly.

The real limit is something like 4096 / ($len_filename + 8) or so.

 Corrections? What do you think?

Use symlinks.

Is this still an issue with an updated kernel and X stack (linux 3.0 or

Bug#476356: After upgrade torrus fails with DB_VERSION_MISMATCH

2011-09-25 Thread Bernhard Schmidt

Hi Jörg,

I'm currently working on packaging a new version of Torrus into Debian.
I've tried the BDB Upgrade script Marc Haber wrote with your assistance,
but it does not work (at least not for the upgrade squeeze-wheezy (4.8
- 5.1).

The script Marc originally wrote included the flags

DB_CREATE | DB_RECOVER | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOCK

executes fine, but Torrus cannot use the database afterwards.

# /usr/sbin/torrus-db-recover
Program version 5.1 doesn't match environment version 4.8
Recovery of /var/lib/torrus/db successful
# torrus compilexml --all
[...] Cannot create BerkeleyDB Environment: Invalid Argument
# cat /var/log/torrus/dbenv_errlog_xxx
configured environment flags incompatible with existing environment

When I try to keep the flag combination closer to the one being used by
Torrus, i.e.

DB_CREATE | DB_RECOVER | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_CDB | DB_INIT_MPOOL

as you suggested in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=476356#17, the recovery
process does not start at all

# /usr/sbin/torrus-db-recover
Illegal flag combination specified to DB_ENV-open

I have tried a few more combinations, but I could not find any
combination that worked and could be opened by Torrus afterwards.
Running db_recover always works, but probably breaks when that points to
a different version than libberkeleydb-perl.

Since I do not have much knowledge about BDB, I'm at loss here. Do you
have any idea?

Bernhard

 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
 Version: 2:2.12.0+shadow-2
 Severity: important

I have updated my laptop (a Dell X200 with i830 graphic card)
today with the latest squeeze. So 2.9.1-4 has
been replaced by 2:2.12.0+shadow-2, which needs KMS to work.

But when inserting i915 module with modeset=1, I get a blank screen.

I use the Debian kernel : Linux version 2.6.32-5-686 (Debian 2.6.32-26).
 and libdrm-intel1 2.4.21-1~squeeze3.

With several 2.6.32-5-686 kernel, I never get i915 and KMS worked.

So I have installed 2:2.12.0+legacy1-1 which works with UMS.

Is this still an issue with an updated stack (linux 3.0 or 3.1, X 1.11,
mesa 7.11 and intel 2.16)? If yes please include dmesg when booting
with drm.debug=6.

Cheers,
Julien
