Bug#642594: RFP: libterm-ansicolor-perl bug #642594
-=| Kirk Kimmel, 24.09.2011 22:09:07 -0400 |=- http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=642594 : Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: libterm-ansicolor-perl Version : 3.01 The newest version of the Term::ANSIColor module exports two new functions colorstrip() and colorvalid(). In addition, 32 color constants are exported, up from 16 in the previous versions. Version 3.00 seems to include the needed functionality too and is included in perl 5.14 in experimental (in perl-modules package). I was able to build a deb with cpan2deb and test installed it on 6.0.2 with no problems. I wonder if it is worth the hassle to introduce a newer libterm-ansicolor-perl package and drop it a couple of months later[0], when 5.14 enters unstable. [0] a pure speculation on my side 3.01 (in perl 5.15.2) seems to additionally contain some fixes, that seem like a good thing to have[1]. Bug#642801: ftp.debian.org: Please support dpkg-source format 3.0 (git) in our archive.
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: wishlist Dear FTP team, There are now 4,921 source packages maintained in Git repositories (http://upsilon.cc/~zack/stuff/vcs-usage/), and for some of them the dpkg-source format 3.0 (git), for which support is available in Squeeze, would be natural and convenient (not to mention innovative). According to Russ Allbery's notes from the notes from the DebConf 2010 source format BoF (http://lists.debian.org/87wrrxhlr7@windlord.stanford.edu), there are worries that the Git history may contain non-free or unredistributable files. I propose to discuss this in this bug report what would be the steps or the policy to implement in order to have the format 3.0 (git) acceptable for our archive. For instance, we could decide that new packages enter Debian without history, and limit the depth of the history to one or two release cycles. We could also decide to trust fully the packages native to Debian or developped by Debian developers. There are more suggestions in the notes that Russ has taken (see above), as well as other concerns not related to the redistribution of files from the Git history. What is the current position of the FTP team ? Have a nice Sunday, -- Charles -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#641806: unoconv: Please consider adding minimal dependencies for conversion to PDF
OoO Peu avant le début de l'après-midi du vendredi 16 septembre 2011, vers 13:45, Mathias Behrle mathi...@m9s.biz disait : the package description suggests, that unoconv converts to all supported document formats. Nervertheless it is not possible to convert ODF documents to pdf without installing the package in Suggests (libreoffice). For a minimal working setup to be able to convert to PDF it is necessary to add at least libreoffice-writer and libreoffice-draw to Depends. OK, I promote libreoffice to Recommends instead of Suggests. In the past, openoffice.org-core metapackage depended on writer and calc but this seems no longer the case. The reason for not using depends is to allow the user to not install calc if she does not want to convert spreadsheets. -- Vincent Bernat ☯ http://vincent.bernat.im Make your program read from top to bottom. - The Elements of Programming Style (Kernighan Plauger) pgpClPKR7eeRs.pgp Description: PGP signature

Package: base Severity: important Wheezy kernel modesetting bug. I found a workaround for this bug and I am now convinced the bug has nothing to do with modesetting. It is rather a bug that is caused by a failure of the kernel to turn on the back light of the laptop (Acer Aspire 7715z). The workarounds: a) use acpi_osi=Linux as a kernel parameter and press Fn + Left Arrow to turn the back light on when it is incorrectly turned off by the kernel. b) use the command as root: setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00 The above command can be included in a startup script. Bug#642808: should not fail if configured interface is not present or not up
Package: radvd Severity: wishlist Tags: ipv6 upstream Hi, currently, radvd fails if it is started for an interface that is not yet present or not yet up. This leads to network failures if radvd is started on an interface that appears dynamically, such as VLAN interface or a bridge. In the bridge case, kernel behavior was recently changed that brX only changes to the UP state when the first interface is added to the bridge. The kernel developers think that it is a good idea to mimic a phyiscal interface in that regard. In the very common virtualization case, this means that the bridge won't be in an UP state until the first VM is booted and attaches itself to the network. This behavior has been verified for both Virtualbox and KVM setups. On the netdev mailing list, I received the answer that the kernel's new behavior is fine and that the applications should hang around and wait for the interface to become usable. So we need to change the applications. On further testing I find that this error only happens if I start gvim from a tiled window. If I start it from a fullscreen terminal it works correctly, unless it is the first window I open. In other words, I need to have at least two fullscreen terminals open for things to work as expected. -- Anthony Campbell - a...@acampbell.org.uk Microsoft-free zone - Using Debian GNU/Linux http://www.acampbell.org.uk - sample my ebooks at http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/acampbell -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. However I just left it for a little while and it seems that eventually the menu elements do get drawn, I'd estimate that I've seen delays lasting from 10s to 30s, although I've not used a watch. The issue appears to affect entire menu elements, such as individual menus rows or entire information boxes, including the text and backing box (I'm not sure what they correspond to in the OpenGL model). These are the only things happening. I also had one - possibly unrelated - crash, forcing me to reboot. I then upgraded to whatever was in sid a week ago and now there has been some improvement: the freezes are now quite short, perhaps 15 seconds or so. On the other hand, that means I do not have enough time to attach a debugger to X from another machine! Do you still get those freezes with linux 3.0 or 3.1, X 1.11 and intel 2.16, or has the behaviour changed again? Bug#619398: libpulse0: license issue, compile client LGPL
severity 619398 serious thanks Hi, I'm raising the severity because pulseaudio's copyright file[0] says: Hence you should treat the client library ('libpulse') of PulseAudio as being LGPL licensed and the server part ('libpulsecore') as being GPL licensed. Since the PulseAudio daemon and the modules link to 'libpulsecore' they are of course also GPL licensed. Since the client library (libpulse0) still depends[1] on libgdbm3 which is GPL2+[3], the above copyright notice is apparently incorrect. The only thing that confuses me, is that the maintainers seem to have switched to tdb quite some time ago[3] and have also released a few new versions in the meantime. Maybe debian/rules also needs to be modified like your original patch[4] suggests? Any comments? Bug#642594: RFP: libterm-ansicolor-perl bug #642594

[1] http://api.metacpan.org/source/RRA/Term-ANSIColor-3.01/ChangeLog Perl maintainers, what would you recommend? It's unlikely that 3.01 will be included in any 5.14 release, based on my understanding of the 5.14 maint policy, so if you want that fix, it'll probably need to be packaged separately (we could patch it locally if needed, but that is likely to confuse more than help; I think we've avoided upgrading CPAN modules in perl except for serious problems). Otherwise, it's likely that 5.14.x will indeed end up in unstable before too long; that's certainly my hope, although I've not heard back from the release team on #637809 yet. If you want to upload libterm-ansicolor-perl before then, no objections from me; we'll pick up the addition of the new dual-lived module package with Niko's nifty scripts, and include the relevant control fields in a subsequent upload. The script Marc originally wrote included the flags DB_CREATE | DB_RECOVER | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_LOCK executes fine, but Torrus cannot use the database afterwards. # /usr/sbin/torrus-db-recover Program version 5.1 doesn't match environment version 4.8 Recovery of /var/lib/torrus/db successful # torrus compilexml --all [...] Cannot create BerkeleyDB Environment: Invalid Argument # cat /var/log/torrus/dbenv_errlog_xxx configured environment flags incompatible with existing environment When I try to keep the flag combination closer to the one being used by Torrus, i.e. DB_CREATE | DB_RECOVER | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_CDB | DB_INIT_MPOOL as you suggested in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=476356#17, the recovery process does not start at all # /usr/sbin/torrus-db-recover Illegal flag combination specified to DB_ENV-open I have tried a few more combinations, but I could not find any combination that worked and could be opened by Torrus afterwards. Running db_recover always works, but probably breaks when that points to a different version than libberkeleydb-perl. Since I do not have much knowledge about BDB, I'm at loss here. Do you have any idea? Bernhard -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

I'm currently working on 2.6.2-1. on this specific topic (doc building), it has a workaround in case there is no internet connection, which is the only potential issue. Bug#598803: xserver-xorg-video-intel: X crashes now and then

(Could this be some other kernel-related problem? Not X this time?) Juha Mäkinen P.S. I include kern.log. Yesterday (13th) some GPU hung messages, but no crashes. Today (14th) crashes but no GPU hung messages. odd. Xorg.0.log (also included) seems normal. No error-messages anyway. Hi Juha, are you still getting GPU hung messages with an updated stack (linux 3.0 or 3.1, X 1.11, intel 2.16, mesa 7.11)? If yes please grab the error state by following http://intellinuxgraphics.org/i915_error_state.html and file a bug upstream (http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html). I use the Debian kernel : Linux version 2.6.32-5-686 (Debian 2.6.32-26). and libdrm-intel1 2.4.21-1~squeeze3. With several 2.6.32-5-686 kernel, I never get i915 and KMS worked. So I have installed 2:2.12.0+legacy1-1 which works with UMS. Is this still an issue with an updated stack (linux 3.0 or 3.1, X 1.11, mesa 7.11 and intel 2.16)?
