Bug#648567: Wheezy installer : No usb detection on Sheevaplug (marvell armel kirkwood), installer stop with mess Error while running 'modprobe -v usb-storage'

Otavio: we should either ask ftp-master to remove that old 20110106+b1 build from the wheezy directory, or make an upload of current d-i (or do both). Can you take care of this? I will do an upload of installer soon so we check how it goes in autobuilders. I presume that would pick the old rootskel? Or we'd need to NMU klibc in unstable with the fix for the klcc issue (the patch provided by Ubuntu is applyable onto the 1.5 in unstable). Bug#652016: Please pick check_rsync up into nagios-plugins

This means there is no real (upstream) maintainer for such a plugins. If you would like to decide to pick it up, I am happly. Anyways ... we won't include extra plugins from other sources into the nagios- plugins source package. One reason is the problem with unreliable upstream maintainance. This is a problem we have already, as I included check_bgpstate and check_linux_raid from contrib/ dir. This directory is included in nagios- plugin upstream, but this plugins aren't also initiated by the upstream project, but provided by third party. Upstream wants to get rid if this directory for the same reason, as we don't want include extra plugins into the nagios-plugin package ... no maintainance by the origin author of this plugins. Anyways ... this issue pops up sometimes and we had a discussions in the past to start an additional source package where we drop in usefull plugins from various sources. Bug#651100: pinpoint crashes with 'failed to create drawable' at startup
Dear Antonio, I could not reproduce this in either a GNOME session or a plain awesome session. Googling for this error message suggests that this is clutter-related. Do other clutter applications run OK for you? I do not have any other clutter based application on my system (at least according to `aptitude why libclutter-1.0-0` I have just uploaded a new upstream snapshot to unstable. It would be nice if you try it out and tell me if it works for you or if this problem persists. The new upstream version itself did not help, but I after doing an update today, pinpoint started perfectly! It's a little bit strange; according to pinpoint's dependencies only libgl1-mesa-glx updated from 7.11-6 to 7.11.1-1; but after a manual downgrade to the old one, pinpoint does still work. Bug#648683: Copyright updates
After some discussion with Joosa, it appears as though original LIERO embeds sounds from MOLEZ (freeware freely distributable), and code from SMIX (sound lib, freeware, donations requested for commercial use) I don't however see this stopping liero-data being in non-free, as was intended all along, as long as the LIEROENG.TXT license terms are modified to omit (...) WITHOUT ANY CHANGES MADE TO IT'S CONTAINMENTS. Joosa has indicated that that wording is no longer valid, but this likely needs a more explicit statement than comments over IRC. I have suggested: The original liero data and binary files are copyright 1998 Joosa Riekkinen They are, unless otherwise stated, available under the WTFPL license: http://sam.zoy.org/wtfpl/ . The LIERO.EXE binary contains the SMIX sound library: http://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~brodskye/smix/smix.html SMIX is freeware, donations are requested for commercial use. . LIERO.SND contains sounds from Molez: http://www.fractilegames.com/product.php?id=molez Molez is freeware and freely distributable. . Bug#649346: fglrx-driver: using xv extension crashes Xorg
Hi, I have the same issue, though I used libdrm-radeon1 from the testing release (version 2.4.27-1). In #651316 they state that the fault is not present with this version. To be eager I installed version 2.4.29-1, that contains the fix for #651316, and the crash is still the same. I also tried installing the 11.12 version of ATI driver, and the fault is the same with that too. Regards, Viktor

Bug#651711: perl: Check that git exists before trying to use it

My workflow was to build directly from the Debian git repository from a clean sid chroot, which was causing these to be shown up. Now I export the source directory first, to avoid this problem. One disadvantage of this patch is that it may mask real changes which were made in a local repository if built without git available; if this was deemed problematic, I think we would instead patch out the git checks in the Debian package entirely. I was going to send this straight to perlbug, but I thought that it would be worth disucssing locally because it's such an edge case which has a bigger impact for most on us -- and because of the problem noted above. It seems to me that the checks for is this a clone of the official Perl git repository should generally be smarter than just testing for the presence of a .git directory. See debian/patches/debian/skip-upstream-git-tests.diff Such a smarter check also needs to test if the git command is available, so make_patchnum.pl could use that if it was properly refactored out. HIME input method editor is a input method derived from GCIN which is under a decentralized development model. Bug#647900: mptspi init failure on Sparc SMP in Linux 3.0
OK, so rather than try to guess based on x86, lets involve the experts; I've cc'd the sparclinux list. Sparc people, The failure alluded to below occurs on an SMP system, but not on a UP one. The symptom appears to indicate the failure of interrupt delivery on SMP, which is why the MPT card fails to initialise. How do we debug this on a sparc? I have no idea, why this issue han't shown up on armel, mips, mipsel or s390, the other arches on which petsc uses lam. My patch adds the missing flag on sparc. And here we are again, this time on armel. I have no idea, why 0.11.0-8.1 was build successfull on armel, as it seems to be the very same isssue according to the build logs: https://buildd.debian.org/status/logs.php?pkg=illuminatorarch=armel The trivial workarround would be to extend the host arch query in debian/rules similimar to the following: DEB_HOST_ARCH := $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_ARCH) ifeq ($(DEB_HOST_ARCH), sparc) LLAM=-llam else ifeq ($(DEB_HOST_ARCH), armel) LLAM=-llam else LLAM= endif endif Note that I didn't test it, and as I have shown nicely in my NMU that isn't very reliable. So it might be better to check the lib itself, e.g. with objdump -x /usr/lib/libpetsc.so|grep -i liblam.so|grep NEEDED That shows the exptected line on sparc on armel, while it doesn't on amd64, but I didn't to further checks. + * Add libmpich2-dev to build-conflicts to prevent FTBFS as described in +http://bugs.debian.org/651452#22 and #27) Sorry, but that seems to have been a really bad idea, as not the build-depends on armhf, mips, mipsel, s390 and s390x can't be fullfilled at all. I'm not sure if it would be better to drop that complelty (as that seems to be a problem not showing up on the buildds) or make that a arch-specific build-conflict (which would be cleaner solution, but the list would need to be maintained). I clone this bug, as this is a different issue. Best Regards, Alexander -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Please add into debian/rules the following: ifneq (,$(filter alpha,$(DEB_BUILD_ARCH))) CONFIGURE_FLAGS += --enable-optimize=-O1 endif Seriously, I doubt this is all that is needed. I would be surprised if the resulting binary actually works and passes the test suites. Actually things have just got better since we are now defaulting to gcc-4.6 on Alpha. The crash of iceweasel at invocation, and also crashes in icedove, disappear when they are built with gcc-4.6, so we no longer need the use of -O1 optimisation to get a working iceweasel. Without -O1, though, we get exposed to the binutils bug that results in GPREL16 relocation errors during linking in very large C++ projects so we need to link with -Wl,--no-relax. In summary, then, please add the IPC defines quoted above, and -Wl,--no-relax to MAIN_LDFLAGS when building on Alpha. Bug#651912: sandboxing-related renderer crash (Aw, snap) when loading NSS modules

Maybe we should declare a Breaks: to prevent that. Or even better, we should fix the bug. Help would be appreciated. A good starting point might be here: [1]. Bug#652028: leafnode: Cron job could be smarter.
Package: leafnode Version: 2.0.0.alpha20090406a-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I'm happily using leafnode and really like the 15 minute fetchnews cron job. However, the machine I'm running on is a laptop. As such, it doesn't have a permanent internet connection. There are two improvements that would be great: firstly, fetchnews could exit silently when there is no network connection. This would avoid the occasional email I get from cron complaining that I didn't have a connection up on a 00,15,30,45 minute mark. I don't know whether there's a more server-oriented way to check this than requiring something massive and desktoppy like network-manager, though. Secondly, to avoid having to wait for the next 15 minute mark when I resume my laptop from sleep, I've got the following in /etc/network/if-up.d/99leafnode. #!/bin/sh if [ $IFACE = lo ]; then exit 0 fi if [ -x /etc/news/leafnode/do-fetch-news ] then /etc/news/leafnode/do-fetch-news fi This works nicely... except if I resume my laptop at XX:44 or the like. Then I get an email complaining about the lockfile being held when the cron job starts. Would it be possible to store the locking time in the lockfile so that do-fetch-news could choose to exit silently if the other process had been going less than 10 minutes (say)? That would avoid ignoring permanent lockups, but would also avoid spamming root if he/she intentionally starts fetchnews near the same time. I could happily code up patches for either of the above (I think I can see how to do the latter), but I thought I should check first whether they had any chance of being accepted. Any help/comments gratefully received! Bug#652029: O: ddns3-client -- Issues dynamic DNS v3 requests
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I intend to orphan the ddns3-client package. The package description is: Dynamic DNS fixes your domain name when your IP address varies with permanent connections like cable modems. Your ISP may charge extra for DNS. Free dynamic DNS with a range of domain names is available from sites like dyndns.org, hn.org and ddns.nu. You set up an account and domain name with your browser at the dynamic DNS site then update the IP periodically with an appropriate client program. . Bug#629380: ulatencyd: virtinst fails to create VM because it cannot create cgroup

Restarting libvirt-bin service, makes it work again. A similar bug occured in Fedora because systemd was deleting libvirt's cgroups. : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678555 I've never used virtinst, could you please provide a step-by-step procedure to reproduce the bug? I don't know how to reliably reproduce it, it just happens now and then. Currently I am suffering from this problem. I try to start a VM defined in libvirt: # virsh start Ubuntu error: Failed to start domain Ubuntu error: Unable to create cgroup for Ubuntu: No such file or directory Notice that libvirt was moved under grp_31597, so now libvirt does not find its cgroup anymore: $ ulatency /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu └─┬»cpu« [...] So I restart libvirtd, which will recreate the needed cgroup: # ulatency /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu └─┬»cpu« [...] Now I can again correctly start the VM. After starting the VM with # virsh start Ubuntu active looks like this: │ ├─┬»active« [...] So I guess ulatency should never move the libvirt cgroup. I see. I think adjusting the ulatencyd scheduler would work (I'm not sure _how_ though), but, if I understood this right, simply starting ulatencyd before libvirtd at boot time would work too, and wouldn't require you to change the default scheduler configuration. That can be done by adding the line: # X-Start-Before:libvirtd to /etc/init.d/ulatencyd (after Required-Stop) and then running insserv as root. Would you mind checking if this works? So that I can push the change to the package in the archive. That will not help I think, because the problem does not only happen when booting the system. Today, I encountered again the problem of the libvirt/qemu group not existing at the expected location anymore. I restarted the libvirt service. However, libvirt still could not find the group. ulatency now gives this output: /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu └─┬»cpu« ├ 6 migration/0 ├─┬»s_ul« │ └ 15778 ulatencyd ├─┬»sys_essential« │ └ 5783 Xorg ├─┬»sys_bg« │ └ 18953 cron ├─┬»usr_1000« │ ├─┬»grp_26849« │ │ └ 26849 gcalctool │ ├─┬»grp_5421« │ │ └ 8470 plugin-containe │ ├─┬»active« │ │ ├ 5421 firefox-bin │ │ ├ 6271 python │ │ ├ 9125 evolution │ │ └ 17782 python │ ├─┬»grp_15204« │ │ └ 15204 ssh │ ├─┬»grp_5455« │ │ └ 5457 pcscd │ ├─┬»grp_6189« │ │ └ 6189 gnome-power-man │ ├─┬»grp_15288« │ │ ├ 15288 libreoffice │ │ ├ 15290 oosplash.bin │ │ └ 15306 soffice.bin │ ├─┬»grp_27612« │ │ └ 27612 bash │ ├─┬»grp_27604« │ │ └ 27604 bash │ ├─┬»grp_6257« │ │ └ 6257 update-notifier │ ├─┬»grp_16540« │ │ └ 16540 bash │ ├─┬»grp_10931« │ │ └ 10931 bash │ ├─┬»grp_9073« │ │ └ 9073 bash │ ├─┬»grp_6261« │ │ └ 6261 nm-applet │ ├─┬»grp_9773« │ │ └ 9773 bash │ ├─┬»grp_9769« │ │ └ 9769 bash │ ├─┬»grp_4369« │ │ └ 4369 bash │ ├─┬»grp_1844« │ │ └ 1844 bash │ ├─┬»grp_6187« │ │ └ 6187 gnome-settings- │ ├─┬»grp_27916« │ │ ├ 27916 bash │ │ └─┬»libvirt« │ │ └─┬»qemu« │ ├─┬»grp_20865« │ │ └ 20865 bash │ ├─┬»grp_6373« │ │ └ 6373 sh │ ├─┬»grp_6535« │ │ └ 6535 bash │ ├─┬»grp_6256« │ │ └ 6256 tracker-miner-f │ ├─┬»grp_6274« │ │ └ 6274 parcellite │ ├─┬»grp_6250« │ │ └ 6250 python │ ├─┬»grp_6254« │ │ └ 6254 gdu-notificatio │ ├─┬»grp_6262« │ │ └ 6262 tracker-store │ ├─┬»grp_6249« │ │ └ 6249 bluetooth-apple │ ├─┬»grp_6252« │ │ └ 6252 zeitgeist-datah │ ├─┬»grp_6284« │ │ └ 6312 gconf-helper │ ├─┬»grp_6287« │ │ └ 6287 gnome-screensav │ ├─┬»grp_6246« │ │ ├ 6246 bonobo-activati │ │ ├ 6294 sensors-applet │ │ ├ 6298 multiload-apple │ │ └ 6300 python │ ├─┬»grp_6275« │ │ └ 6275 gnome-volume-co │ ├─┬»ui« │ │ ├ 6230 compiz │ │ ├ 6237 gnome-panel │ │ ├ 6244 nautilus │ │ └ 6374 compiz-decorato │ ├─┬»grp_6228« │ │ └ 6228 compiz-ccp │ ├─┬»grp_6175« │ │ └ 6175 dbus-launch │ ├─┬»grp_6176« │ │ ├ 6176 dbus-daemon │ │ ├ 6181 gconfd-2 │ │ ├ 6205 dconf-service │ │ ├ 6210 gvfsd │ │ ├ 6224 gvfs-gdu-volume │ │ ├ 6240 gvfs-afc-volume │ │ ├ 6243 gvfs-gphoto2-vo │ │ ├ 6270 zeitgeist-daemo │ │ ├ 6510 geoclue-master │ │ ├ 6530 geoclue-manual │ │ ├ 6588 geoclue-hostip │ │ ├ 6600 cat │ │ ├ 6650 gvfsd-trash │ │ ├ 6658 gvfsd-burn │ │ ├ 6674 gvfsd-metadata │ │ ├ 20095 gvfsd-http │ │ └ 26305 e-addressbook-f │ ├─┬»grp_6172« │ │ └ 6172 ssh-agent │ ├─┬»grp_5877« │ │ └ 5877 x-session-manag │

Thank You for Your time and answer, Ari: I'm going to guess that this has something to with JACK/gstreamer. Can you run gstreamer-properties, try setting the output device to something else, and try running pidgin again? I have no idea how to do that. - I do not use it at all. Also, please try to get a backtrace by installing pidgin-dbg and following the directions here: http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace I have removed all my data|config I have accumulated over time, and now it seems pidgin works - so, probably just bad working w/ old created config.s . Bug#652011: general: Repeated pattern of FHS violation: Dependencies of /sbin and /bin, belong in /lib
Russ Allbery writes (Re: Bug#652011: general: Repeated pattern of FHS violation: Dependencies of /sbin and /bin, belong in /lib): I don't know if it's worth the effort to unify /bin and /usr/bin or the other similar things that have been discussed from time to time, The situation we have, where this is something we vaguely try to do but don't spend a lot of effort on, is IMO perfectly reasonable. For example, it would be possible for someone who wanted to make a Debian derivative which shipped with a separate /usr by default to go and fix all of these bugs, and we shouldn't make that impossible by deliberately conflating / and /usr or by rejecting the bug reports. but I do think it may be time for Debian to just officially say that we don't support /usr on a (meaningfully) separate partition from /bin and /lib, and that binaries in /bin may have dependencies on /usr/lib. If we want to relax the policy, we could say in principle we think this is a nice to have but whether to support it is up to maintainers of individual packages. Let's please not go straight to deliberately breaking it for the sake of tidiness. Ian. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#652036: [pkg-db-devel] Bug#652036: db: Salvaging db_dump triggers endless loop on certain broken databases since Berkeley DB 4.7
Hi, could you please try db5.1 (and optionally db5.2 in experimental)? O. This is due to the attached upstream patch [3]; reversing this patch fixes the issue, and it works again (like in Berkeley DB 4.4). I am not at all into Berkeley DB internals, however I guess the introduced loop misses a guard against pagenos loop-referencing (same two pagenos usually reappear enlessly when debugging). Hi Roman, * Roman Z. rom...@lavabit.com, 2011-11-10, 14:09: ranger can't run if it can't find the ranger python module. It must be in one of the PYTHONPATH directories. Bug#652040: ibus doesn't recognize gtk windows
Package: ibus Version: 1.4.0-2 Severity: important Tags: l10n Dear Maintainer, I have used ibus for a while to do Japanese input. I currently have installed ibus, ibus-gtk, ibus-gtk3, ibus-qt4, and dependencies of these. Until late last week, Japanese input worked as expected. I updated to the most recent version if ibus, 1.4.0-2, and I believe this broke something in ibus-gtk or ibus-gtk3. I've tried several things, including recreating ibus config files, but I cannot get ibus to work for many of my applications. It works fine for LibreOffice and choqok. However, it doesn't work for Terminal, Firefox, Gwaei, Claws-mail, or Bluefish (these are the only apps I've tested). For these applications, I start the application (when ibus is already running), and when I click on the ibus icon in the taskbar, it shows only No input window. I speculate that there's something strange in 1.4.0-2 that is causing a problem somehow. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.1.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ibus depends on: ii gconf2 3.2.3-1 ii libc62.13-23 ii libgconf2-4 3.2.3-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.8-2 ii libibus-1.0-01.4.0-2 ii librsvg2-common 2.34.2-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.4.4-4 ii python 2.7.2-9 ii python-ibus 1.4.0-2 ii python-notify0.1.1-3 ii python-xdg 0.19-3 Versions of packages ibus recommends: ii ibus-clutter none ii ibus-gtk 1.4.0-2 ii ibus-gtk3 1.4.0-2 ii ibus-qt4 1.3.1-2+b1 ii im-config 0.7 ibus suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Can you further explain this please ? Really, the Makefile needs a thorough cleanup. Actually, I don't want to remove the 2.4.x kernel support. Also, building for a 64-bit kernel will still fail since DKMS is configured to expect all 3 modules to be built. Actually sl-modem-source is only for i386 arch, but your dkms.conf patch is wonderful, I didn't know that it was possible, I have cherry-picked this patch already, and hence made sl-modem-source available for amd64 arch too. -- أحمد المحمودي (Ahmed El-Mahmoudy) Digital design engineer GPG KeyID: 0xEDDDA1B7 GPG Fingerprint: 8206 A196 2084 7E6D 0DF8 B176 BC19 6A94 EDDD A1B7 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

As such, using dynamically allocated buffers while it might seem a bit more work, it also seems superior in all other accounts, it will use less memory, it should not suffer from accidental truncation, it will accomodate any arbitrary path length w/o problem, etc. In any case, I'd rather see the MAX macros removed from GNU/*. This would solve 90% of the build failures we have in Debian. On 2007 Michael Banck did some analysis [0] and from that around 20% could be said to be affected definitely by MAX macro issues. Bug#472802: limesurvey maintenance
Hi, a customer of us is interested in having proper limesurvey packages in Debian, so I spent some effort on the collab-maint repo last month. Sorry for the massive Cc list, but I wasn't really sure who is going to be Maintainer/Uploader. I will be able to spend some time on the package and do uploads, but I won't be the primary Maintainer. So if someone needs sponsoring, please ask me. I haven't really looked closer, but the embedded libraries look like they should (could?) be removed, so I'd propose to go for an experimental upload until this has been resolved (or deemed infeasible). Re: Paul van Tilburg 2011-12-05 20111205145932.gb26...@salyut.spacelabs.nl Thirdly, PostgreSQL-support. There, I encountered a few issues that may well be due to dbconfig. So, the setup script /usr/share/limesurvey/admin/install.done/cmd_install.php fails. It cannot connect to the database create. I think it is because common.php, included by the setup script tries to connect to the database, while this doesn't exist yet. When I go via: $ sudo -u postgres psql postgres=# CREATE DATABASE limesurvey; The script suddenly works! I noticed similar problems, I eventually managed to get it running, but didn't try to debug the scripts. (We have a running database and just need updated packages so this is not a problem here.) After this, I can reach the site, i.e. /limesurvey/admin.php, but am not able to login with admin/password. However, this seems to be an already reported issue: http://bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=5586 . I'll just have to wait for reactions. Or is anyone else here using it succesfully with PostgreSQL. Same here in my local tests. Christoph -- c...@df7cb.de | http://www.df7cb.de/ signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hi, On Wed, 14 Dec 2011, Jonas Smedegaard wrote: On 11-12-14 at 08:17am, Raphael Hertzog wrote: On Tue, 13 Dec 2011, Simon Ruderich wrote: The attached patch fixes this and passes DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS to dpkg-buildflags, but I'm not sure if it's the best way to do it. The attached patch is not enough. There are other variables that are important. Please check /usr/share/dpkg/buildflags.mk as an example of how this should be done. Better, I suggest that you rely on dpkg-dev doing the work for you and that you just include this Makefile and use the standard variables. Thanks for your attention to this. I am unsure what you suggest above - do you suggest that CDBS not mess with variables at all, or that the proposed patch not be used at all? I suggest that the patch be reworked to not redo what /usr/share/dpkg/buildflags.mk already does correctly and to find a way to reuse /usr/share/dpkg/buildflags.mk. Unfortunately the interface of /usr/share/dpkg/buildflags.mk means that CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS/CPPFLAGS/LDFLAGS/FFLAGS are directly modified so you if you want to store their values in other variables, you might have to backup the values before including that Makefile and restore them afterwards. (Of course, if you find this too messy, feel free to find another way to nicely resolve the problem :-)) Cheers, -- Raphaël Hertzog ◈ Debian Developer Pre-order a copy of the Debian Administrator's Handbook and help liberate it: http://debian-handbook.info/liberation/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. For these applications, I start the application (when ibus is already running), and when I click on the ibus icon in the taskbar, it shows only No input window. This is strange. What does the icon's right click about menu tells you? Do you have any other IM installed? Did you try activating ibus with CTRL-SPACE or ALT-` ,... I speculate that there's something strange in 1.4.0-2 that is causing a problem somehow. Strange but with this much info, I can do so much.
