Bug#668304: mailman: Translations should use unicode charset
Hi, That solution is a hack, really. The gettext system was designed to allow translators to use whatever charset encoding they wish, and there is no need to change all the translations for that. What you need is translations to be *shown* in your own charset, not translations to *be* in UTF8, which is usually irrelevant. The gettext system takes care of charset conversion but apparently it's not working properly. So yes, there seems to be a bug somewhere, but modifying all the translations is the wrong solution. I did not know gettext was able to handle charsets, but if so, fixing the problem should be even easier. Mailman just has to tell gettext to return everything encoded as UTF-8? There are some template html files though which I think do not use gettext, so those need to be actually converted. Bug#671286: LUA_CPATH_DEFAULT broken when not building with debhelper
On Wed, May 02, 2012 at 08:23:14PM -0400, Evan Wies wrote: The DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH is only set during the Debian build process, or manually through the preprocessor. Since Lua packages are built with debhelper, they include a well-formed LUA_CPATH_DEFAULT. However, this change breaks the compilation of programs outside of debhelper which embed Lua and rely upon LUA_CPATH_DEFAULT: error: expected ')' before 'DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH' A workaround is to set DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH manually (using dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH), or construct ones own LUA_CPATH_DEFAULT. Since liblua5.1-0dev is architecture-specific, perhaps the build process could insert the architecture into luaconf.h rather than depend on a definition set in the package build process? This will make the package non multiarch capable, since there is no architecture triplet in the path for header files (yet) so all .h files must be architecture neutral. Something I can do it to fix .pc file so that pkg-config --cflags lua5.1 correctly spits out -DDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH=bla What do you think? -- Enrico Tassi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#671354: plasma-widget-networkmanagement: Cipher not set correctly during openvpn import
Package: plasma-widget-networkmanagement Version: 0.9.0.1-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, When using the widget to import an openvpn connection, the cipher is not set correctly. Tested on two .ovpn configs both using aes-128-cbc but after import one is set to default the other set to blank. Manually setting the cipher after import fixes the issue. Bug#671302: libav: circular dependency between libav and opencv

This currently makes libav unbuildable on mipsel and hurd-i386, and generically makes libav no more bootstrap'able without having itself compiled already. Could you please drop the opencv usage again, please? What could be done instead is a binary only upload with opencv support disabled (i.e. use dpkg-buildpackage -B). Doing it on our end will not require changing the version. Once this package is uploaded, the release team can then be asked to do a binNMU for these archs, which will bring back opencv support since the archive will contain the regular *.debian.tar.gz changes that included opencv. I believe this is better than doing a full build on all archs without opencv, then doing another build with opencv. This mess (which is only a mess, not a clean solution) does not solve at all the fact that you cannot do a clean build of libav without having libav compiled already (for opencv). I don't see this as a viable solution, especially if in the future the epoch is raised bringing again conflicts between the old libav libraries and the new one. -- Pino Toscano signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

To my best knowledge Gabon, Morocco, and Moldova do not feature even a lost village called Berlin. -- Best regards, Lionel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#671359: pgpool2: prompting due to modified conffiles which where not modified by the user
Package: pgpool2 Version: 3.1.3-1 Severity: serious User: debian...@lists.debian.org Usertags: piuparts Hi, during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed the piuparts upgrade test because dpkg detected a conffile as being modified and then prompted the user for an action. As there is no user input, this fails. But this is not the real problem, the real problem is that this prompt shows up in the first place, as there was nobody modifying this conffile at all, the package has just been installed and upgraded... This is a violation of policy 10.7.3, see http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s10.7.3, which says [These scripts handling conffiles] must not ask unnecessary questions (particularly during upgrades), and must otherwise be good citizens. http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling should help with figuring out how to do this properly. In http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00675.html and followups it has been agreed that these bugs are to be filed with severity serious. Bug#671361: pyicu: Please enable Python 3 support
Package: pyicu Version: 1.3-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch quantal Upstream has Python 3 support, and it would be nice to enable it. (Part of the Ubuntu installer uses PyICU, and I'm working on porting it all to Python 3, so I would actually use this.) The following patch is hopefully self-explanatory, and works for me. The packaging is less trivial than it might be due to the way 2to3 is hooked up in the upstream source. I rather wish upstream had just made the tests polyglot 2/3, although I suppose that would have involved dropping support for Python 2.6. * Add Python 3 packages. * Replace ICUtzinfo-not-heap-type.dpatch with upstream r191, which restores Python 3 compatibility. * Drop manual cleaning of python-pyicu-dbg, since dh_python2 handles this. diff -u pyicu-1.3/debian/control pyicu-1.3/debian/control --- pyicu-1.3/debian/control +++ pyicu-1.3/debian/control @@ -3,7 +3,7 @@ Priority: optional Maintainer: Debian Python Modules Team python-modules-t...@lists.alioth.debian.org Uploaders: Bernd Zeimetz b...@debian.org -Build-Depends: dpatch, debhelper (= 5.0.37.3), python-all-dev (= 2.6.6-3~), python-all-dbg (= 2.6.6-3~), libicu-dev +Build-Depends: dpatch, debhelper (= 5.0.37.3), python-all-dev (= 2.6.6-3~), python-all-dbg (= 2.6.6-3~), python3-all-dev (= 3.2), python3-all-dbg (= 3.2), libicu-dev Build-Conflicts: python-pyicu Vcs-Svn: svn://svn.debian.org/python-modules/packages/pyicu/trunk/ Vcs-Browser: http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/python-modules/packages/pyicu/trunk/ @@ -33,0 +34,23 @@ + +Package: python3-pyicu +Architecture: any +Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, ${python:Depends} +Provides: ${python:Provides} +Description: Python 3 extension wrapping the ICU C++ API + ICU is a C++ and C library that provides robust and full-featured + Unicode and locale support. Bug#671302: libav: circular dependency between libav and opencv
On May 3, 2012 9:30 AM, Pino Toscano p...@debian.org wrote: Alle giovedì 3 maggio 2012, Andres Mejia ha scritto: On Thu, May 3, 2012 at 3:44 AM, Pino Toscano p...@debian.org wrote: Package: libav Version: 6:0.8.1-7 Severity: important Hi, libav 6:0.8.1-7 reenables the use of opencv... which itself uses libav libraries. -- Pino Toscano I'm not entirely certain how build circular dependency issues like this are resolved. Perhaps we should ask for help from the toolchain package maintainers or debian-devel. ~ Andres

Bug#671363: ipython-qtconsole: Wrong dependency for ipython-qtconsole
Package: ipython-qtconsole Version: 0.12-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, While trying to test ipython-qtconsole, I stumbled on the following error message: File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/IPython/external/qt.py, line 62, in module from PySide import QtCore, QtGui, QtSvg ImportError: cannot import name QtGui python-qt4 is installed (4.9.4) and python-pyside.qtcode as well (1.1.0-2). This seems to be related to https://github.com/ipython/ipython/issues/655 since using the advised command line: QT_API=pyqt ipython qtconsole works. However, the patch mentionned in the cited bug report has been applied to the ipython version that I am running (looking at the code), so it is not exactly the same issue. In fact, there are missing dependencies (python3-pyside.qtgui and python3-pyside.qtsvg). This comes from the fact that the dependencies are wrongly expressed. The Depends: states python3-pyqt4 | python3-pyside.qtcore, python3-pyqt4 | python3-pyside.qtgui, python3-pyqt4 | python3-pyside.qtsvg, which (if the Depends: syntax allowed it, which is not the case) should rather be python3-pyqt4 | ( python3-pyside.qtcore, python3-pyside.qtgui, python3-pyside.qtsvg) or could be factorized as python3-pyqt4 | ( python3-pyside.qtgui, python3-pyside.qtsvg) since qtcore is required by qtgui and qtsvg. I guess there is no immediate solution. Here are some ideas: The pyside dependency could be expressed as python3-pyqt4 | python-pyside but this would bring a number of unneeded components. A dummy package could be built, with dependencies on python3-pyside.qtcore, python3-pyside.qtgui, python3-pyside.qtsvg, and then the Depends: would become python3-pyqt4 | python4-pyside-gui-svg-required-dummy-package but this is not clean at all. Finally, the IPython/external/qt.py file could be patched to address this issue: try to import QtGui/QtSvg is nothing was specified in the env. variable, and then fallback on qtcore. Bug#671364: dma package uses outdated (2 y/o) upstream dma version
Package: dma Version: 0.0.2010.06.17-6 The dma is actively developed and is now at 0.8 version [1]. Is there any reason why debian package uses the outdated version from 2010? I assume this may be because the sources were originally available at http://devel.ringlet.net/mail/dma/, where 2010.06.17 is indeed the newest version available, but the development has ever since moved to https://github.com/corecode/dma and is now at 0.8 version released a month ago. Bug#671371: python3-pyqt4: Segfault for simpe canvas view program
The examples are meant to be run from examples/demos/qtdemo/qtdemo.py. It's not been ported to python3 yet, so there's not a good way to do this as provided from upstream. If I run graphicsview/anchorlayout.py with python2.7 I also get a segmentation fault, so there is something worth looking into here. I'm not sure if it's python/python3 or PyQt at fault though. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#671378: Remove libalogg1?
Source: libalogg1 Version: 1.3.7-1.1 Severity: serious Hi, I'm involved in the transition towards Allegro 4.4 [1] and libalogg1 currently FTBFS against Allegro 4.4, because we removed allegro-makedoc from liballegro-dev. I'm wondering if we still need this package. It has no reverse dependencies in Debian and the upstream website doesn't exist anymore. Googling for it, I didn't find a new upstream website or hints that libalogg is still used. Allegro 4.4 is now a legacy library, that we keep for the existing games, Allegro 5 has its own ogg support. Also there is a different ogg library, liblogg, bundled with Allegro 4.4 an maintained by the Allegro developers. We didn't package it (yet), because we're not aware of it being needed. If you are aware of any packages or important programs using libalogg, or if you don't agree with the removal for other reasons, please let me know and close this bug report. Otherwise, do you agree with me reassigning the bug to ftp.debian.org to pursue the removal? This is unchanged for now. Please use dh --parallel or mention in debian/rules why build parallelism isn't possible to use. Ah, ok, I'll do that. I would suggest depending on dh-autoreconf and running dh --with autoreconf to ensure that the configure script and Makefiles are always buildable on Debian. I _think_ the problem occurs only if I have a removed, but not purged old version of libgcc1-dbg/gcc-4.7-base:i386. So there are 2 bugs here: 1. 'apt-get -f install' can't recover on its own from .gz mismatches, if the :i386 package is removed, and at an older version. One has to manually --purge the :i386 package, before the :amd64 one can be upgraded. IMHO removed packages shouldn't affect upgradability. 2. 'apt-get -f install' can't recover on its own from an unpacked-but-not-configured libgcc1-dbg that got stuck at an older version. One has to remove the package, and reinstall it to fix this. I think apt-get -f install should at least give hints to the user on what to try manually, and of course best would be if it could figure out on its own how to fix these situations. FWIW downgrading and upgrading just the amd64 packages works: 1. Downgrade to 4.7.0-6, just amd64 packages, :i386 packages are purged: # dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/libgcc1_1%3a4.7.0-6_amd64.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/gcc-4.7-base_4.7.0-6_amd64.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/libstdc++6_4.7.0-6_amd64.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/libgcc1-dbg_1%3a4.7.0-6_amd64.deb 2. apt-get -f install restores it back again This doesn't work (steps to reproduce this bug): 1. Something is broken with (your) apt-listchanges. Apt-listchanges is a hook run before installing packages and if any hook fails the installation is aborted. Try removing that temporary from your apt.conf. In the end I fixed this by removing libgcc1-dbg and libstdc++6-4.7-dbg, and reinstalling them. I can however still reproduce the problem by downgrading to the .deb in my /var/cache/apt, so I've tried disabling apt-listchanges as you suggested: # apt-get -f install Reading package lists... Install libgcc1-dbg:i386 # apt-get install libgcc1-dbg:i386 libgcc1-dbg:amd64 2. Remove it (but don't purge) # apt-get remove libgcc1-dbg:i386 status is now: dpkg -l libgcc1 libgcc1-dbg gcc-4.7-base Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++-=-=-== ii gcc-4.7-base:amd644.7.0-7 GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection (base package) ii gcc-4.7-base:i386 4.7.0-7 GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection (base package) ii libgcc1:amd64 1:4.7.0-7 GCC support library ii libgcc1:i386 1:4.7.0-7 GCC support library This should read 'rc libgcc1:i386, I've pasted wrong dpkg -l here. --Edwin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I have looked at many of these and it seems the problem your are noticing is they have a license text block as a comment at the top, but the license specified for the %IRSSI settings is not referring to that specific license. Since the license setting allows plain text without a standard format, I beleive that the authors have simply been less precise here without realizing the potential confusion. As long as they specify the same type of license, but the block is more precise about the specific license versions, I think it will be fine for us to just use the license text block which is more precise and limiting. Thank you very much!! Thank you again for your work, and patience, on this! I may be able to work on this tonight, but hope to get this uploaded by tomorrow, if not. Bug#671383: pulseaudio: module-udev-detect fails to find the soundcard (hence dummy output aka no sound)
Package: pulseaudio Version: 1.1-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Problem: out-of the box pulseaudio gives a dummy output in Kmix aka no sound Diagnostics: I think that there is a problem with the start-up execution of the module-udev-detect. I cannot say if it is the timing when the module is executed, or the module itself. Executing pkill pulse ; sleep 10 ; pulseaudio - gives back sound. They did make nearly the same change to the 0.8.7 branch in revision 5743 (April 2010), without the configuration part. Has it made it into v0.8.8? The case notes certainly indiciate that it did. - on which version of cacti did you do your verifications? I have not tested against any versions other than the v0.8.7g provided by Debian. - do we still need the --define suhosin.memory_limit lines, even if a proper memory_limit is set by cacti's scripts? As I understand it, yes, or are those suhosin limits taken from the php memory_limit? We will need to define suhosin.memory_limit in all versions that don't include the fix. From my understanding of the fix, users may also need to add it manually to the scripts in the fixed version if they define a non-standard memory_limit in config.pgp. However, since by default the memory_limit will be fixed to 512M globally, no script will use ini_set to increase its memory, and suhosin will thus no longer complain even when suhosin.memory_limit isn't defined. This is my understanding, but is untested, so it may be wrong. (I have no time to set up and est a non-debian version right now.) Something is broken with (your) apt-listchanges. Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Correcting dependencies... Done The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: anjuta-common gtkpod-data id3v2 libanjuta-3-0 libgdl-3-2 libgdl-3-common Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. The following extra packages will be installed: libgcc1-dbg The following packages will be upgraded: libgcc1-dbg 1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 97 not upgraded. 1 not fully installed or removed. Ok, now that looks much more like an apt bug. Apt correctly notices that it needs to *upgrade* libgcc1-dbg:amd64. But where does it actually do that? There is no unpacking of the new libgcc1-dbg:amd64 and clearly the old can't be configured. Could you check what dpkg commands apt invokes? Not sure whats the easiest there but a strace -f would do or overriding Dir::Bin::dpkg. Shouldn't but probably will. Multiarch packages can't have different versions so a removed package will still lock the version of the other archs. On ther other hand a remove package only has conffiles left and they shouldn't cause a conflict with files differing between multiarch packages. But apt-get should figure that out and purge the offending package or give a proper error message if that is the case. Install libgcc1-dbg:i386 # apt-get install libgcc1-dbg:i386 libgcc1-dbg:amd64 2. Remove it (but don't purge) # apt-get remove libgcc1-dbg:i386 status is now: dpkg -l libgcc1 libgcc1-dbg gcc-4.7-base Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version

This is build tested only. Should go through some functional testing before being applied. Well? Is anyone gonna test this? Looks like it's up to you, unless some firmware upgrade already made the problem go away. It works like this: 0. prerequisites: apt-get install git build-essential 1. grab the kernel history, if you don't already have it: git clone \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git 2. add point releases: cd linux git remote add stable \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git git fetch stable 3. configure, build, test: git checkout stable/linux-3.2.y cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config; # current configuration make localmodconfig; # optional: minimize configuration scripts/config --disable DEBUG_INFO make deb-pkg; # optionally with -jnum for parallel build dpkg -i ../name of package; # as root reboot ... test test test ... Hopefully it reproduces the problem. So: 4. try the patch (attached): cd linux git am -3sc /path/to/the/patch make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../name of package; # as root reboot ... test test test ... Actually, given that this is a really minor change to a module and not touching any externally visible interfaces at all, you can get away with far less work for a simple verification test. Do step 1 and 2, and then apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`; # as root git checkout stable/linux-3.2.y git am -3sc /path/to/the/patch make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build SUBDIRS=`pwd`/drivers/net/usb cdc_ether.ko # as root: rmmod cdc_ether insmod drivers/net/usb/cdc_ether.ko No reboot required, and no need to build all the unmodified drivers. Bug#671387: Please add gambas3 interpreter to lintian
Package: lintian Severity: wishlist Gambas is a complete visual development environment for BASIC in linux. The new version of Gambas, called Gambas3 and considered stable by upstream, has gbr3 as its interpreter and will be uploaded to Debian (in the gambas3-runtime package) in the short future. So, please, add gbr3 as interpreter to lintian. Also, the old version of Gambas had gbx2 and gbr2 as its interpreter and it's already in Debian in the gambas2-runtime package, which we are going to ask for removal before the Wheezy release, as soon as gambas is accepted by the ftp masters. Bug#566609: [Pkg-cacti-maint] Bug#566609: bug not in cacti
I have not had a chance to verify it personally, but they seem to no longer use ini_set within cmd.php or other cacti php scripts, according to the notes. This would mean that we would not need to modify the scripts to add --define suhosin.memory_limit to script calls. http://bugs.cacti.net/view.php?id=1583 This change (revision 5717) never made it completely to the 0.8.X branch and remained in main. They did make nearly the same change to the 0.8.7 branch in revision 5743 (April 2010), without the configuration part. Has it made it into v0.8.8? The case notes certainly indiciate that it did. (My typo, the original revision was 5617 [1]) Well, the biggest part went into 0.8.7something, except for the possibility to configure the limit and the fact that the ini_set was done in global.php instead of the two last scripts. Reading from the diffs, there are two scripts left that use ini_set: paul@stromboli ~/cacti/cacti $ grep -n ini_set\(\memory_limit * cmd.php:64:ini_set(memory_limit, 512M); poller.php:211:ini_set(memory_limit, 512M); I have not tested against any versions other than the v0.8.7g provided by Debian. The changes were already included in that version. So your tests are the same for 0.8.8. (I have no time to set up and est a non-debian version right now.) See my comments above. But even if global.php would set the memory_limit, the issue would still be there wouldn't it? I.e. asking the cacti developers to port the changes in 5617 wouldn't really help anyway. By the way, from your proposed solution: the fact that a php script can call (via command line) an other php script while setting the suhosin.memory_limit defeats the purpose of suhosin quite a bit, doesn't it? Seems like a hole in the system. Paul [1] http://svn.cacti.net/viewvc?view=revrevision=5617 signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

But even if global.php would set the memory_limit, the issue would still be there wouldn't it? I.e. asking the cacti developers to port the changes in 5617 wouldn't really help anyway. That depends entirely on how it is implemented. It all boils down to: do the individual scripts still call ini_set to change their memory_limit themselves. If so, then we still need to define suhosin.memory_limit. If not, then suhosin won't complain: it only complains when a script tries to increase it's memory limit mid-run. By the way, from your proposed solution: the fact that a php script can call (via command line) an other php script while setting the suhosin.memory_limit defeats the purpose of suhosin quite a bit, doesn't it? Seems like a hole in the system. That's a whole different argument. Most people don't seem to find the suhosin patch to be particularly useful... It appears to be quite a kludge. Don't know if my fix uses a hole per se; I assume that the suhosin devs feel that suhosin is meant only to protect against misbehaving scripts and external attacks. If a user is able to modify the script or call them from the command line, then all bets are off and suhosin is useless anyways. Bug#614907: tech-ctte: please help maintainers of packages with a node command to have a reasonable conversation
* Russ Allbery (r...@debian.org) [120503 01:33]: Ian Jackson ijack...@chiark.greenend.org.uk writes: I'm disappointed to see this is still rumbling on. There is only one correct solution, and it is this: In the long term, I would be happiest if both were renamed. I won't reiterate the arguments that I've already made on debian-devel, but will mention here for those who haven't been following that discussion that I think I disagree. Based on the information that I currently have (and this has been changing over the course of the discussion), I think Node.js should (eventually, with a suitable transition) have the name node, since the use of it in the ham radio package is as an inetd-invoked daemon and the renaming there doesn't have much impact. (It's a system interface, but not really a user interface.) It's interesting that Fedora has nodejs, and I think we should also provide nodejs and encourage people to use that name, but I think it would be best for our users to also provide node. In this case, I think the name the binary is installed as should be nodejs, not node. (A symlink is a different topic, see below.) Also, as you said, the ham radio package is (AFAICUI) only used internally (considering a binary run by inittab, inetd etc as internally), so a step-by-step-transition to a different name shouldn't be too hard. Independend of whether the nodejs-package contains a symlink in the end, I think that change should be done because node is a generic name. Regarding the symlink: I'm currently not convinced how hard it would be to not set the symlink. Whoever wants it can set it in /usr/local/bin or ~/bin/ (or via an alias). Especially as this is also the case in Fedora, I'd tend to also not using an symlink. I also think the current Policy suggestion to rename both programs in the event of an unreconciled naming conflict is not a very good idea, and think it should change to instead list the Technical Committee as the decision-maker of last resort. Renaming both programs is likely to be the right move only in cases where both programs are pretty obscure and fairly new. Agreed. Perhaps something like usually, newcomers should respect the namespace wouldn't sound wrong to me (but not as an absolute rule of course). Also, the policy should prevent using too generic names (if both packages rename, the name node is free again to be used, and I don't think that's proper).
