Bug#675750: gnumeric: Please enhance the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test to allow TWO input data ranges
Package: gnumeric Version: 1.10.17-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream Hi, Thank you very much for maintaining gnumeric. I like it better than oocalc. I happened to notice that the documentation titled Comparing Medians of Two Populations at http://projects.gnome.org/gnumeric/doc/two-medians-tool.shtml says the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney Test can handle unpaired data. However, gnumeric-Statistics-Two Sample Test-Two Medians-Wilcoxon Mann Whitney test requires the input data to be organized by columns or rows. It seems to me that since the test's input data need not be paired, it could be defined by two ranges. I think arbitrary ranges would be desirable for data that occupies other array shapes, like arrays, histograms and triangles. Andreas Guelzow and I suspect it's just an oversight. We agree that other tools already allow grouping by area, and that's what we want. Bug#675751: gnumeric: Please enhance the Wilcoxon-Mann_Whitney test to ignore blank cells
Package: gnumeric Version: 1.10.17-1 Severity: normal I humbly submitted enhancement request #675750 about an hour ago. Maybe now would be a convenient time to implement a second enhancement to the Wilcoxon-Mann_Whitney code. Please enhance it to ignore blank cells. Hello Bart! The package is no longer at mentors. What happened ? I just recompiled on recent Sid and the result was broken then, even the testsuite segfaults. Since I'm not sure it's a problem with gcc 4.7 or the hardening flags (or both), I removed it, since I don't want to provide some crappy stuff on mentors. I'm currently looking forward to do some more research on this issue, find it's reason, if possible fix it and have a fixed / working package uploaded then. When a fixed package is uploaded to mentors, I'll drop you a line. I hope you would like to ITS, since as long it was on mentors no one was intended to. Bug#674023: [BTS#674023] templates://ledgersmb/{templates} : Final update for English review
Dear Debian maintainer, On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for ledgersmb. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the original bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading ledgersmb with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, June 06, 2012, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Thursday, June 28, 2012, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- # These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english # team # # If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask # debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. # # Even minor modifications require translation updates and such # changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. Bug#675754: O: kwiki -- Quickie Wiki that's not too Tricky
Package: wnpp After consulting the MIA database, having a look at the PTS and DDPO pages, and the list of open bugs in the BTS, I concluded that this package is in fact orphaned. I'm therefor marking this package as orphaned now. I have made a few comments on the open bugs. My impression is that kwiki should be removed from Debian, but I have not yet decided to request the removal. Hi Guillem, Thanks for your quick and helpful response. In fact when looking to refactor some of the triggers code some time ago I came across the missing upwards trigger activation, and was already considering doing exactly this, but did not think through about the consequences, I guess that means I was on the right track back then. This sounds good. At least in the sgml-base case the behaviour should completely solve the issue. Please tell me if I can assist with this change. Bug#661151: [apparmor] Bug#661151: linux-2.6: lacks AppArmor kernel/userspace interface
intrigeri wrote (31 May 2012 13:14:13 GMT) : Looking back over the bug log, I see that wasn't requested, so I'm only applying 'AppArmor: compatibility patch for v5 interface' now. Unfortunately, the resulting kernel (linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64 3.2.19-1), combined with the AppArmor userspace tools currently in sid (2.7.103-2), displays worse behaviour than the previous one. Loading a profile shipped with apparmor-profiles fails: $ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.avahi-daemon apparmor_parser: Unable to replace /usr/sbin/avahi-daemon. Profile doesn't conform to protocol zsh: exit 234 sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.avahi-daemon ... as a result, usr.sbin.avahi-daemon does not show up in the cache directory. Another one fails differently: $ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.chromium-browser zsh: exit 185 sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.chromium-browser ... but is cached nevertheless: $ ls -l /etc/apparmor.d/cache/usr.bin.chromium-browser -rw--- 1 root root 251K juin 2 18:59 /etc/apparmor.d/cache/usr.bin.chromium-browser Kernel log excerpt for this last attempt: type=1400 audit(1338678658.161:166): apparmor=STATUS info=failed to unpack profile error=-71 pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser name=/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser offset=171 type=1400 audit(1338678658.161:167): apparmor=STATUS operation=profile_replace pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser audit(1338678658.165:168): apparmor=STATUS info=failed to unpack profile error=-71 pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser name=/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser//browser_java offset=166 type=1400 audit(1338678658.165:169): apparmor=STATUS operation=profile_replace pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser In any case, neither the profiles that end up cached not the ones that seemingly fail to load earlier are applied to processes. So, this is a regression against the previous state of AppArmor support in Debian. I'm unsure the kernel is at fault / the place where something must be improved. John, Kees, may you please check why the patch that was applied to this Debian kernel could possibly expose such a bug? I've seen similar old issues on Launchpad (e.g. LP#968956), but most don't apply to the version of the userspace tools we ship in sid. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#675467: ITP: bilibop -- run Debian from external media
Hi, quid...@poivron.org wrote (02 Jun 2012 13:05:42 GMT) : bilibop-common: shell functions to find the drive hosting the root filesystem (dm-crypt, LVM, loop devices, aufs and any combination of them are supported) This might be useful for Tails' implementation of wipe memory on shutdown. I have Tails installed on a USB key; the wipe memory on shutdown seems to work well, without need of bilibop-common or whatever. Nice to hear. However, we're generally happy to replace custom code with some generic code maintained by others than us, who seem to be experts in the specific area this code is about -- especially when our own quick hack quickly shows its limits in unusual installations of Tails. We try to cap our instance of the NIH syndrom to the bare minimum. bilibop-rules: udev rules to fix the removable drive hosting the running system, and all its partitions, as members of the 'disk' group I fail to understand how a drive can be a member of the 'disk' group. Please enlighten me. (Being offline, I can't read the mentionned bug right now, but still, the package description should make sense by itself, without needing to access online resources.) Boot on Debian, plug a USB/FireWire drive (key or HDD) on, and execute 'ls -l /dev/sd*': You should see /dev/sda and its partitions as members of the 'disk' group (and maybe also /dev/sdb* if there is a second internal HDD). Ah, you mean *owned* by the disk vs. floppy group. Now (and now that I've read the referenced bug) it's perfectly clear :) I don't think it's correct and clear to tell a drive is a member of a group. (fixes bug #645466). I think s/fixes/is a way to workaround/ would be more correct. Unfortunately, #645466 is likely to remain unfixed even once bilibop is in Debian :( For example, you told me about Tails. So, boot on it (the LiveUSB, of course) find the drive which your system is running from (here, we say /dev/sdb), and, as the normal user, just type 'shred -vzn0 /dev/sdb'. Now your 'secured' system is lost. Right. I'm glad we've learnt of this security issue. Thank you. I've added it to our bug tracker: https://tails.boum.org/bugs/writable_system_disk:_belongs_to_floppy_group/ Do you want to be credited for this discovery? (even if, formally speaking, you did not report it to us: had I not read debian-devel, I would probably not have learnt about it that soon, would I?) So, find the drive hosting the running system and protect it from user mistakes is what I call 'fix a security issue' or 'make the system more robust'. Sure. I can't wait using it in Tails. Are there any difficulties you think we may encounter in the process? Please note that I did not mean to suggest bilibop does not fix security issues or does not makes a system more robust: I was merely pointing out that 1. the description was not explaining why and how clearly enough to my taste; 2. I was interested and I wanted to know more. Your reply looks like a good source of inspiration to make the package description more thorough and precise. Other optional features for the desktop environment (based on Udisks). Such as? By setting: [...] As said above, this is optional, and only for convenience: hide partitions, or show them with icons and/or names different than the defaults, or make the user able or not to mount them from the filemanager with or without su/sudo password. As said in the documentation of the package, all this can be bypassed with pmount(1). This is not a security layer. Looks like this could be useful for Tails persistence feature :) You can download the source with: dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/bilibop/bilibop_0.1.dsc I'll have a look, hopefully in a few days. Don't hesitate pinging me in two weeks if needed. I have send a RFS: #675532 I'll consider sponsoring this package. I expect my decision to be mostly a function of whether there is some bilibop feature we can use as is in Tails. How much do you care about seeing bilibop shipped in Wheezy? (I presume not much, else you would have posted this ITP quite sooner, but who knows, I myself have not uploaded yet all new packages I want to see in Wheezy -- the difference being I won't have to argue with myself about packaging style and tools ;) Cheers, -- intrigeri | GnuPG key @ https://gaffer.ptitcanardnoir.org/intrigeri/intrigeri.asc | OTR fingerprint @ https://gaffer.ptitcanardnoir.org/intrigeri/otr.asc -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#626317: Resynth plugin really broken?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi, Oops, I forgot to mention some technical details about my previous report. I'm using Debian Sid, package versions: ii gimp 2.8.0-2 The GNU Image Manipulation Program ii gimp-plugin-regis 5.20120523repository of optional extensions for GIMP Sadly, after some more testing, the smart remove selection filter does not seem to work correctly anymore for me. smart-remove.scm is not shipped with gimp-plugin-registry and therefore I can't provide any support for it. Upstream replaced it with plugin-heal-selection.py, which shows up as 'Heal Selection...' in Filters/Enhance Instead of covering the selection with a random patchwork of textures taken in its surroundings, each re-do providing a different random pick, it now seems to do something weird, spreading colors inside the selection, re-execution spreading colors further until the whole selection of filled with a single color. Can someone confirm this? So far I can only confirm that you are using a plugin which wa snot shipped by a Debian package, and even it relies on something which was shipped in Debian, I just can't support it. Either we have to make them conflict one with another (that is libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev, libc0.3-dev with libc6-dev, etc.), Note that this holds whether or not these packages are M-A: same. or we have to check for these packages as if they were a single one. Bug#639529: summary: please add entry to /etc/nsswitch.conf
Hi, first, thank you all for the work on a refurbished autofs package! I would like to draw your attention to #639529, as it would be great to fix this before the wheezy freeze and it's just a minor modification. Let me sum up, as the lengthy history of the issue might be confusing: The name service switch functionality allows to assign different resources for various informations like passwords, groups etc. The resource to use is defined in /etc/nsswitch.conf. Everybody using the autfs-ldap package needs to add: automount: files ldap to /etc/nsswitch.conf. This activates the look up of mount points in LDAP. For example, this has to be done in debian-edu and debian-lan. The patches already attached above make sure the line needed is added on installation and removed after purging the autofs-ldap package. Modifying /etc/nsswitch.conf is fine, cf. [1]. A similar patch has been applied to sudo-ldap, cf. #639530. Thanks, Andi [1] Modifying nsswitch.conf shouldn't be a problem, quoting from URL:http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=610600#34: Usually, policy forbids that a package modifies the configuration file of another package, but in this case /etc/nsswitch.conf is not a conffile in dpkg sense but just a default. This is on purpose so that packages that need to modify such file do so without having to ask me about that. Therefore, I think we should just modify sudo-ldap so that the required line is added to /etc/nsswitch.conf on postinst and removed on purge, as only users of sudo-ldap need such line, i.e. please do not rely on base-files and just do with nsswitch.conf whatever is required for it to work with your package. -- -- A N D R E A S B. Bug#657076: Updating and maintaining barry in Debian / Ubuntu
Hi, Chris Frey wrote (31 May 2012 22:39:54 GMT) : Making every maintainer update their package in order to support hardening seems like the long way around. But so be it. :-) I agree but the decision was not made this way, so let's deal with it :) There is no guarantee either that the diffs you look at with git-log are the same changes that end up in the binary file you get out of a pristine-tar commit. It is unlikely that they will differ, but thinking that pristine-tar is somehow closer to the real git sources than a signed binary tarball from sourceforge is mistaken. There is a trust gap in both. The xdelta can contain anything. Ah. Looks like you are absolutely right. I never thought of this. Thanks a lot for educating me! :) If I find a way to make git-buildpackage run for you as expected, without pristine-tar, would that be satisfactory? Maybe that's impossible, but I'd really like to get rid of that dependency. [...] If I stop autogenerating configure in the .orig.tar.gz, and stop pre-generating html docs in it, which aren't used anyway, it should be possible for you to import the .dsc file using git-buildpackage and have a completely empty git-diff between my release tag and your git-buildpackage master tree. This would allow you to peruse my upstream git log with certainty that you're actually viewing the real changes. I don't think you'll need to use debdiff anymore. Looks great. [...] But the diff between the master branch (created by git-buildpackage) and my barry-0.18.3 tag only contained the autogenerated files for the html docs and autoconf. Without such cruft in the .orig.tar.gz release, you could easily import my releases, and review them at will, and use git-buildpackage however you like. It would make the release files smaller too. This looks like an awesome solution. Let's try it! The downloads from sourceforge worked just fine from the command line. Sure. However, the URLs you provided me until now did not. Did I miss a way to get the real download URL from the click-one, without firing up a web browser? Please let me know what you think of my above plan. If it is satisfactory, I can release barry-0.18.3-2 soon, and we can see how our workflows mesh. Yeah, let's try for real soon. However, using the third option as described in the debconf template fails: You can export a real block device (for instance /dev/hda1); a normal file (such as /export/nbd/bl1); or a bunch of files all at once. For the third option, you can use %s in the filename, which will be expanded to the IP-address of the connecting client. An example would be /export/swaps/swp%s. I tried /opt/swp%s with and without '', and prepared the file /opt/swp10.0.0.201 like: dd if=/dev/zero of=swp10.0.0.201 bs=1024k count=0 seek=64 mkswap swp10.0.0.201 but the clients complain about not enough swap area to use on /dev/nbd0. What does the server say in its syslog at this point? Jun 3 11:14:54 mainserver nbd_server[16197]: connect from 10.0.1.12, assigned file is /tmp/swap%s Jun 3 11:14:54 mainserver nbd_server[16197]: Can't open authorization file (null) (Bad address). Jun 3 11:14:54 mainserver nbd_server[16197]: Child exited with 1 So the assigned file is not /tmp/swap10.0.1.12 as expected, but /tmp/swap%s. %s is not replaced by the IP-address connecting. Of course, /tmp/swap%s does not exist. As soon as I prepare a file /opt/swp%s in the same way, swap space is available on the client and anything works fine. Did you modify the server config file? If so, what did you set the virtstyle option to? No, no special modifications at all: root@mainserver:~# cat /etc/nbd-server/config [generic] # If you want to run everything as root rather than the nbd user, you # may either say root in the two following lines, or remove them # altogether. Do not remove the [generic] section, however. user = nbd group = nbd # What follows are export definitions. You may create as much of them as # you want, but the section header has to be unique. [export] exportname = /tmp/swap%s port = 9573 So it looks as if %s is not replaced by the IP-address of the client. Hope this helps debugging the issue. Bug#675772: libasound2-plugins: Please split PulseAudio plugin into separate package
Package: libasound2-plugins Version: 1.0.25-2 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, please split the PulseAudio plugin for ALSA into a separate package. libpulse in unstable is by now installable in a foreign architecture using multiarch. However, for foreign-arch ALSA-based applications to have any sound on a system using PulseAudio, libasound2-plugins needs to be installed in that architecture as well. This package also contains other plugins not needed for just playing sound through PA, and the dependencies caused by these plugins [1] [2] currently block the package from being installable in a foreign architecture. Bug#572492: pwauth: Default SERVER_UIDS in config.h doesn't allow use by other services
Hi, I've been trying to use pwauth with exim as described in http://wiki.exim.org/AuthenticatedSmtpUsingPwauth As this original ticket here describes, i've had a similar issue where I had to rebuild pwauth with my own uids to allow the Debian-exim user to be able to call pwauth. It would be much nicer for me if I could just have added that user to a group rather than have to maintain my own package. Thanks

No, because these packages are architecture specific, so they are not co-installable. For example libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev might have conflicting files, but you can't install libc0.1-dev (kfreebsd-amd64 only) together with libc6-dev, unless they are marked M-A: same. Marking them M-A: same is not going to resolve these conflicts, because libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev still belong to different package sets, and with --force-overwrite you can install libc0.1-dev along libc6-dev already. My point there is that given the package is that marking as M-A: same also implicitly means that the packager has verified that the package is not going to conflict with any other file. And if he/she failed to do so, it's a serious bug in the package, like we handled file conflicts bugs before the multiarch era. Currently theses packages are not marked as M-A: same, so it's not a bug in a package, but rather a bug in a multiarch specification allowing this. or we have to check for these packages as if they were a single one. This means they would need to have the same name (probably libc-dev) on all architectures. Yes, thinking about that, either we want to make it fully multiarch, in that case all libc*-dev needs to be renamed to the same name, or we should add conflicts to prevent someone trying to install for example libc6.1-dev along with libc6-dev. Renaming seems to be the best long-term solution to me, but using conflicts is probably safer for wheezy. For instance, kfreebsd-kernel-headers:kfreebsd-i386 contains files clashing with both libc6:i386 and linux-libc-dev:i386: I came to the same conclusion. -- Aurelien Jarno GPG: 1024D/F1BCDB73 aurel...@aurel32.net http://www.aurel32.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#675781: ITP: libmodule-manifest-skip-perl -- MANIFEST.SKIP management for Perl modules
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Jonas Smedegaard d...@jones.dk * Package name: libmodule-manifest-skip-perl Version : 0.16 Upstream Author : Ingy döt Net i...@cpan.org * URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Module-Manifest-Skip/ * License : Artistic or GPL-1+ Programming Lang: Perl Description : MANIFEST.SKIP management for Perl modules Module::Manifest::Skip is mostly intended for module packaging frameworks to share a common, up-to-date MANIFEST.SKIP base. For example, Module::Install::ManifestSkip, uses this module to get the actual SKIP content. However this module may be useful for any module author. . CPAN module authors use a MANIFEST.SKIP file to exclude certain well known files from getting put into a generated MANIFEST file, which would cause them to go into the final distribution package. . The packaging tools try to automatically skip things for you, but if you add one of your own entries, you have to add all the common ones yourself. This module attempts to make all of this boring process as simple and reliable as possible. . Module::Manifest::Skip can create or update a MANIFEST.SKIP file for you. You can add your own entries, and it will leave them alone. You can even tell it to not skip certain entries that it normally skips, although this is rarely needed. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. The version of busybox currently in experimental verifies all the strings returned by dhcpd and if any bad char is found, it replaces the whole thing with literal string bad when exporting the variable to the script. So there should be no need to quote anything anymore.
