Bug#675750: gnumeric: Please enhance the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test to allow TWO input data ranges

2012-06-03 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.10.17-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Hi,

Thank you very much for maintaining gnumeric.

I like it better than oocalc.

I happened to notice that the documentation titled
Comparing Medians of Two Populations at

http://projects.gnome.org/gnumeric/doc/two-medians-tool.shtml

says the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney Test can handle
unpaired data. However, gnumeric-Statistics-Two
Sample Test-Two Medians-Wilcoxon Mann Whitney
test requires the input data to be organized by
columns or rows.

It seems to me that since the test's input data
need not be paired, it could be defined by two
ranges.

I think arbitrary ranges would be desirable for
data that occupies other array shapes, like
arrays, histograms and triangles.

Andreas Guelzow and I suspect it's just an
oversight.

We agree that other tools already allow grouping
by area, and that's what we want.

Thanks,
Kingsley

Bug#675751: gnumeric: Please enhance the Wilcoxon-Mann_Whitney test to ignore blank cells

2012-06-03 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.10.17-1
Severity: normal

I humbly submitted enhancement request #675750
about an hour ago.

Maybe now would be a convenient time to implement
a second enhancement to the Wilcoxon-Mann_Whitney
code.

Please enhance it to ignore blank cells.

A small spread sheet demonstrating the problem is
attached.

It tests the same numbers, with and without blanks.

The two tests return different p-values.

It seems to me they should return the same p-value.

I hope that helps,
Kingsley

Bug#661507: RFS: libblocxx/2.3.0~svn544-1 [ITP] BloCxx - C++ Framework for Application Development

2012-06-03 Thread Björn Esser
Hello Bart!

The package is no longer at mentors.  What happened ?

I just recompiled on recent Sid and the result was broken then, even
the testsuite segfaults. Since I'm not sure it's a problem with gcc
4.7 or the hardening flags (or both), I removed it, since I don't want
to provide some crappy stuff on mentors.
I'm currently looking forward to do some more research on this issue,
find it's reason, if possible fix it and have a fixed / working
package uploaded then.

When a fixed package is uploaded to mentors, I'll drop you a line.

I hope you would like to ITS, since as long it was on mentors no one
was intended to.

Best Regards,
  Björn Esser

Bug#674023: [BTS#674023] templates://ledgersmb/{templates} : Final update for English review

2012-06-03 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for ledgersmb.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the
original bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading ledgersmb with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, June 06, 2012, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Thursday, June 28, 2012, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#675593: Complement, actual state.

2012-06-03 Thread Steve Schnepp
Tag 675593 + upstream
Thx

The current perms are : u=rwx,go=rx

For plugins that don't exec as the correct uid, they cannot create their
state file there.

Creation of the state file is difficult to delegate correctly, so using the
proposed perms is a good compromise.

And this fix should happen upstream.

Bug#636010: [linux-2.6] Please rename source to linux

2012-06-03 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Ben Hutchings wrote:

We would certainly like to do this, but we want to find a way to do so
while properly tracking bugs that may apply to both the old 'linux-2.6'
 and the new 'linux'.

Based on experience of the git-core - git renaming:

The only downside I know of is that you have to look at both
src:linux-2.6 and src:linux to find the full list of known bugs. As
long as src:linux-2.6 exists in a maintained version, the maintainer
info is still fine (and if that breaks, we can pester owner@). To
move a bug to the new package:

reassign 94324832 src:linux 3.2.20-1
found 94324832 linux-2.6/2.6.32-29
found 94324832 linux-2.6/3.2.12-1

Debbugs uses the changelogs of the current package in stable and
unstable (I don't remember if it uses testing and oldstable too or
not) to understand found/fixed information, so the version graph,
testing migration, and other version-associated magic would work fine.

I wouldn't mind just making the switch, as long as the bug script is
updated to match at the same time.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile
the copyright file must say where the upstream sources (if any) were obtained

http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities
serious - is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a must
or required directive)

So setting the severity to serious. Steve, feel free to lower the severity
but then please explain why this bug would be not an RC bug. Maybe you want
debian-policy modified so that it no longer uses must for this.

I found an URL beginning with http://kwiki.org/ on bug 227900. But
http://kwiki.org/ currently produces a broken website related to porn, so I
guess the domain name was taken over.

Then I found http://search.cpan.org/dist/Kwiki/ via Google. But the README
file in http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/I/IN/INGY/Kwiki-0.39.tar.gz
states STOP. Don't install this CPAN module! and also still points to
subpages of http://kwiki.org/ .

Well, I think the point is to manage to fix those (if it's now the

I still think it's useful to catch those at compile time instead of at
runtime.

This sounds good. At least in the sgml-base case the behaviour should
completely solve the issue. Please tell me if I can assist with this
change.

Jakub Wilk was kind enough to run some grep[1] on the lintian lab for

Bug#661151: [apparmor] Bug#661151: linux-2.6: lacks AppArmor kernel/userspace interface

intrigeri wrote (31 May 2012 13:14:13 GMT) :
Looking back over the bug log, I see that wasn't requested, so I'm
only applying 'AppArmor: compatibility patch for v5 interface' now.

Unfortunately, the resulting kernel (linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64
3.2.19-1), combined with the AppArmor userspace tools currently in sid
(2.7.103-2), displays worse behaviour than the previous one.

Loading a profile shipped with apparmor-profiles fails:

  $ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.avahi-daemon
  apparmor_parser: Unable to replace /usr/sbin/avahi-daemon. Profile doesn't
conform to protocol
  zsh: exit 234 sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.avahi-daemon

... as a result, usr.sbin.avahi-daemon does not show up in the
cache directory.

Another one fails differently:

  $ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.chromium-browser
  zsh: exit 185 sudo apparmor_parser -r
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.chromium-browser

... but is cached nevertheless:

  $ ls -l /etc/apparmor.d/cache/usr.bin.chromium-browser
  -rw--- 1 root root 251K juin 2 18:59
/etc/apparmor.d/cache/usr.bin.chromium-browser

Kernel log excerpt for this last attempt:

  type=1400 audit(1338678658.161:166): apparmor=STATUS info=failed
  to unpack profile error=-71 pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser
  name=/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser offset=171
  type=1400 audit(1338678658.161:167): apparmor=STATUS
  operation=profile_replace pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser
  audit(1338678658.165:168): apparmor=STATUS info=failed to unpack
  profile error=-71 pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser
  name=/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser//browser_java
  offset=166 type=1400 audit(1338678658.165:169): apparmor=STATUS
  operation=profile_replace pid=21836 comm=apparmor_parser

In any case, neither the profiles that end up cached not the ones that
seemingly fail to load earlier are applied to processes. So, this is
a regression against the previous state of AppArmor support in Debian.

I'm unsure the kernel is at fault / the place where something must
be improved.

John, Kees, may you please check why the patch that was applied to
this Debian kernel could possibly expose such a bug?

I've seen similar old issues on Launchpad (e.g. LP#968956), but most
don't apply to the version of the userspace tools we ship in sid.

Bug#675467: ITP: bilibop -- run Debian from external media

2012-06-03 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

quid...@poivron.org wrote (02 Jun 2012 13:05:42 GMT) :
bilibop-common: shell functions to find the drive hosting the root
filesystem (dm-crypt, LVM, loop devices, aufs and any combination
 of them are supported)

This might be useful for Tails' implementation of wipe memory on
 shutdown.
I have Tails installed on a USB key; the wipe memory on shutdown
seems to work well, without need of bilibop-common or whatever.

Nice to hear. However, we're generally happy to replace custom code
with some generic code maintained by others than us, who seem to be
experts in the specific area this code is about -- especially when our
own quick hack quickly shows its limits in unusual installations of
Tails. We try to cap our instance of the NIH syndrom to the
bare minimum.

bilibop-rules: udev rules to fix the removable drive hosting the running
system, and all its partitions, as members of the 'disk' group
I fail to understand how a drive can be a member of the 'disk' group.
Please enlighten me. (Being offline, I can't read the mentionned bug
right now, but still, the package description should make sense by
itself, without needing to access online resources.)
Boot on Debian, plug a USB/FireWire drive (key or HDD) on, and execute
 'ls -l /dev/sd*':
You should see /dev/sda and its partitions as members of the 'disk' group
(and maybe also /dev/sdb* if there is a second internal HDD).

Ah, you mean *owned* by the disk vs. floppy group.
Now (and now that I've read the referenced bug) it's perfectly clear :)
I don't think it's correct and clear to tell a drive is a member of
a group.

 (fixes bug #645466).

I think s/fixes/is a way to workaround/ would be more correct.
Unfortunately, #645466 is likely to remain unfixed even once bilibop
is in Debian :(

For example, you told me about Tails. So, boot on it (the LiveUSB,
of course) find the drive which your system is running from (here,
we say /dev/sdb), and, as the normal user, just type 'shred -vzn0
/dev/sdb'. Now your 'secured' system is lost.

Right. I'm glad we've learnt of this security issue. Thank you.
I've added it to our bug tracker:
https://tails.boum.org/bugs/writable_system_disk:_belongs_to_floppy_group/

Do you want to be credited for this discovery? (even if, formally
speaking, you did not report it to us: had I not read debian-devel,
I would probably not have learnt about it that soon, would I?)

So, find the drive hosting the running system and protect it from
user mistakes is what I call 'fix a security issue' or 'make the
 system more robust'.

Sure. I can't wait using it in Tails. Are there any difficulties you
think we may encounter in the process?

Please note that I did not mean to suggest bilibop does not fix
security issues or does not makes a system more robust: I was merely
pointing out that 1. the description was not explaining why and how
clearly enough to my taste; 2. I was interested and I wanted to know
more. Your reply looks like a good source of inspiration to make the
package description more thorough and precise.

Other optional features for the desktop environment (based on
 Udisks).

 Such as?
By setting: [...] As said above, this is optional, and only for
convenience: hide partitions, or show them with icons and/or names
different than the defaults, or make the user able or not to mount
them from the filemanager with or without su/sudo password. As said
in the documentation of the package, all this can be bypassed with
pmount(1). This is not a security layer.

Looks like this could be useful for Tails persistence feature :)

You can download the source with: dget -x
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/bilibop/bilibop_0.1.dsc

I'll have a look, hopefully in a few days. Don't hesitate pinging me
in two weeks if needed.

 I have send a RFS: #675532

I'll consider sponsoring this package. I expect my decision to be
mostly a function of whether there is some bilibop feature we can use
as is in Tails.

How much do you care about seeing bilibop shipped in Wheezy?
(I presume not much, else you would have posted this ITP quite sooner,
but who knows, I myself have not uploaded yet all new packages I want
to see in Wheezy -- the difference being I won't have to argue with
myself about packaging style and tools ;)

Cheers,

Bug#675759: avr-libc/pgmspace.h is not ANSI compliant

2012-06-03 Thread Bernhard
Package: avr-libc
Version: 1.8.0-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

the header file pgmspace.h uses the inline-attribute.
This attribute is not part of ANSI C.

My programs are compiled with the option -ansi.
Here is a minimal test program:

 #include avr/io.h
 #include avr/pgmspace.h

 int main (void)
 {
   while (1);
   return (0);
 }

Please compile this with:
$ avr-gcc -mmcu=atmega644p -ansi file

Compilation aborts because of the non-ansi include attribute in pgmspace.h

In GCC manual:
there is the predefined macro __STRICT_ANSI__ available, if parameter
-ansi is used.
Please don't use the inline-attribute in case of __STRICT_ANSI__.

In avr-libc manual:
it is described, that this library has to be an ansi-c library.
This is described in chapter 1.2.

If you need more informations, please let me know.

Best regards
Bernhard

Can't they simply be removed as well, until there is a working compiler? Those

Bug#675762: RM: python-cdb -- RoQA; license violation

2012-06-03 Thread Bart Martens
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Please remove python-cdb from unstable, testing and stable.

The software cdb at http://cr.yp.to/cdb.html has this information for
distributors:

 | You may distribute unmodified copies of the cdb package. Packages that need
to
 | read cdb files should incorporate the necessary portions of the cdb library
 | rather than relying on an external cdb library.

The software python-cdb contains a modified copy of part of the software
cdb. The files cdb-0.75/cdb.c and python-cdb-0.34/src/cdb.c are different.
The file python-cdb-0.34/src/cdb.c contains these lines:

 | /* Public domain. */
 | /* Adapted from DJB's original cdb-0.75 package */

So the software python-cdb must not be distributed, so must not be in Debian.

Bug#626317: Resynth plugin really broken?

2012-06-03 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi,

Oops, I forgot to mention some technical details about my previous report.
I'm using Debian Sid, package versions:

ii gimp 2.8.0-2 The GNU Image Manipulation Program
ii gimp-plugin-regis 5.20120523repository of optional extensions
 for GIMP

Sadly, after some more testing, the smart remove selection filter does
not seem to work correctly anymore for me.

smart-remove.scm is not shipped with gimp-plugin-registry and therefore I
can't provide any support for it.
Upstream replaced it with plugin-heal-selection.py, which shows up as 'Heal
Selection...' in Filters/Enhance

Instead of covering the selection with a random patchwork of textures taken
in its surroundings, each re-do providing a different random pick, it now
seems to do something weird, spreading colors inside the selection,
re-execution spreading colors further until the whole selection of filled
 with a single color.

 Can someone confirm this?

So far I can only confirm that you are using a plugin which wa snot shipped by
a Debian package, and even it relies on something which was shipped in Debian,
I just can't support it. But feel free to prove me wrong :)

Cheers,

Bernd

 libc0.1-dev is ok.
libc0.3-dev is ok since it's only available for one architecture.
 libc6.1-dev is ok too.

Either we have to make them conflict one with another (that is
 libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev, libc0.3-dev with libc6-dev, etc.),

Note that this holds whether or not these packages are M-A: same.

or we have to check for these packages as if they were a single one.

This means they would need to have the same name (probably libc-dev) on
all architectures.

Hello!

I does not know if this behavior is present in current versions of
icedove. Hopefully not.

So because the bug is a lit bit older, can You give some feedback if
there is the described bug still present. I don't have such big folders
to test this.

Thanks and Regards!

Bug#639529: summary: please add entry to /etc/nsswitch.conf

2012-06-03 Thread Andreas B. Mundt
Hi,

first, thank you all for the work on a refurbished autofs package! I
would like to draw your attention to #639529, as it would be great to
fix this before the wheezy freeze and it's just a minor modification.

Let me sum up, as the lengthy history of the issue might be confusing:

The name service switch functionality allows to assign different
resources for various informations like passwords, groups etc.
The resource to use is defined in /etc/nsswitch.conf. Everybody
using the autfs-ldap package needs to add:

  automount: files ldap

to /etc/nsswitch.conf. This activates the look up of mount points
in LDAP. For example, this has to be done in debian-edu and
debian-lan.

The patches already attached above make sure the line needed is added
on installation and removed after purging the autofs-ldap package.
Modifying /etc/nsswitch.conf is fine, cf. [1]. A similar patch has
been applied to sudo-ldap, cf. #639530.

Thanks,

Andi

[1] Modifying nsswitch.conf shouldn't be a problem, quoting from
URL:http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=610600#34:

Usually, policy forbids that a package modifies the configuration
file of another package, but in this case /etc/nsswitch.conf is not a
conffile in dpkg sense but just a default. This is on purpose so that
packages that need to modify such file do so without having to ask me
about that.

Therefore, I think we should just modify sudo-ldap so that the
required line is added to /etc/nsswitch.conf on postinst and removed
on purge, as only users of sudo-ldap need such line, i.e. please do
not rely on base-files and just do with nsswitch.conf whatever is
required for it to work with your package.

 Hello,

the header file pgmspace.h uses the inline-attribute.
This attribute is not part of ANSI C.

My programs are compiled with the option -ansi.
Here is a minimal test program:

 #include avr/io.h
 #include avr/pgmspace.h

 int main (void)
 {
       while (1);
       return (0);
 }

 Please compile this with:
 $ avr-gcc -mmcu=atmega644p -ansi file

Bug#657076: Updating and maintaining barry in Debian / Ubuntu

2012-06-03 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

Chris Frey wrote (31 May 2012 22:39:54 GMT) :
Making every maintainer update their package in order to support
hardening seems like the long way around. But so be it. :-)

I agree but the decision was not made this way, so let's deal with
it :)

There is no guarantee either that the diffs you look at with git-log
are the same changes that end up in the binary file you get out of
a pristine-tar commit. It is unlikely that they will differ, but
thinking that pristine-tar is somehow closer to the real git sources
than a signed binary tarball from sourceforge is mistaken. There is
a trust gap in both. The xdelta can contain anything.

Ah. Looks like you are absolutely right. I never thought of this.
Thanks a lot for educating me! :)

If I find a way to make git-buildpackage run for you as expected,
without pristine-tar, would that be satisfactory? Maybe that's
impossible, but I'd really like to get rid of that dependency.
[...]
If I stop autogenerating configure in the .orig.tar.gz, and stop
pre-generating html docs in it, which aren't used anyway, it should
be possible for you to import the .dsc file using git-buildpackage
and have a completely empty git-diff between my release tag and your
git-buildpackage master tree. This would allow you to peruse my
upstream git log with certainty that you're actually viewing the
 real changes.

I don't think you'll need to use debdiff anymore.

Looks great.

 [...]
But the diff between the master branch (created by git-buildpackage) and my
barry-0.18.3 tag only contained the autogenerated files for the html docs
and autoconf. Without such cruft in the .orig.tar.gz release, you could
easily import my releases, and review them at will, and use git-buildpackage
however you like. It would make the release files smaller too.

This looks like an awesome solution. Let's try it!

The downloads from sourceforge worked just fine from the
 command line.

Sure. However, the URLs you provided me until now did not. Did I miss
a way to get the real download URL from the click-one, without firing
up a web browser?

Please let me know what you think of my above plan. If it is
satisfactory, I can release barry-0.18.3-2 soon, and we can see how
 our workflows mesh.

Yeah, let's try for real soon.

Cheers,

After consulting the MIA database, having a look at the PTS and DDPO pages, and

I see that Jari Aalto has added a few changes in 2.4-4.2 that clearly belong in
normal package maintenance, so maybe Jari Aalto is interested in adopting this

No, because these packages are architecture specific, so they are not
co-installable. For example libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev might have
conflicting files, but you can't install libc0.1-dev (kfreebsd-amd64
only) together with libc6-dev, unless they are marked M-A: same.

or we have to check for these packages as if they were a single one.

This means they would need to have the same name (probably libc-dev) on
 all architectures.

Yes, thinking about that, either we want to make it fully multiarch, in
that case all libc*-dev needs to be renamed to the same name, or we
should add conflicts to prevent someone trying to install for example
libc6.1-dev along with libc6-dev.

Sure.

We would have to import latest upstream on top of that

Well, unless we all agree to reset git repo, this is impossible to do. I

+1 from me. However, as Fathi is ITP holder, he may have the last word.

I know. But it is easy to have another repo with everything :-)
Alioth can host it:

  http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/osamu/libjpeg-turbo.git

I see you had some revert implimented. Some package splits are a bit
different. You get better picture from gitk screen.

Looks good to me. I have cloned a working copy where I can write to on
my own git server (and already did some work):

http://code.das-netzwerkteam.de/gitweb?p=debian/libjpeg-turbo.git;a=summary

@Fathi: will the above named vcs on code.x2go.org work for you as
starting point? Osamu could clone that on collab-maint. Are you ok
with co- aintenance? Shall we create a team-context for maintenance?
One possibility could be that we place the development of the LJT
package under the roof of the pkx-x2go-devel@a.l.d.o packaging
team(easy for me :-) ). Any other context is fine as well.

I an with you.

Fathi? There also is a pkg-tigervnc project on Alioth, that would be
an even better context, I guess.

So we need to make the assignment of works who does what.

Once Fathi gave his go, I will be happy to extract the diversion
stuff from the library stuff.

I can help general simple packaging based on Ubuntu work but I can not
be competent on complicated library packaging with ABI compatibility
 etc.

I guess the QA has to be done by Fathi, Doko or someone with similar
experience. However, we can give them our work and together the
package may evolve.

Yes.

As I read the source, I can see why Independent JPEG Group is bitter.

Modified file by non-IJG people are identifies as if they were done by
IJG people. I am sure it is upsetting when code is broken from IJG
people's view. I think no malice but just sloppiness ...

Not getting what you mean exactly here. Can anything be done about it?
Anything that we can do?

2012-06-03 Thread Bart Martens
Package: wnpp

After consulting the MIA database, having a look at the PTS and DDPO pages, and
the list of open bugs in the BTS, I concluded that this package is in fact
orphaned. I'm therefor marking this package as orphaned now.

I see that Jari Aalto has added a few changes in 1.20-0.1 that clearly belong
in normal package maintenance, so maybe Jari Aalto is interested in adopting
this package.

Bart Martens

Bug#656858: libimage-exiftool-perl: new upstream version available

2012-06-03 Thread Mari Wang
[Christoph Anton Mitterer]

 Package: libimage-exiftool-perl
 Version: 8.60-2
 Followup-For: Bug #656858

 Hi.

8.93 is out in the meantime,...

Which is a development release, and not considered for upload to
Debian. 8.90 is the latest production release.

There have now been 33 (!!) stable releases since the current Debian
 sid version.

Um, no. There have been five or six new production releases in the
past year. Which is bad enough, for sure, but not quite as dramatic.

Has this package beend abandoned? If so could you please orphan it,
so that someone else could take it over?

I've had a crazy year IRL, and am currently picking things up again.
A new exiftool package is high on my todo-list, but requires some
reconstruction due to a disk crash a while ago.

All the best

Mari

Note that this holds whether or not these packages are M-A: same.

No, because these packages are architecture specific, so they are not
co-installable. For example libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev might have
conflicting files, but you can't install libc0.1-dev (kfreebsd-amd64
only) together with libc6-dev, unless they are marked M-A: same.

Marking them M-A: same is not going to resolve these conflicts,
because libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev still belong to different package
sets, and with --force-overwrite you can install libc0.1-dev along
libc6-dev already.

or we have to check for these packages as if they were a single one.

Renaming seems to be the best long-term solution to me, but using
conflicts is probably safer for wheezy. For instance,
kfreebsd-kernel-headers:kfreebsd-i386 contains files clashing with both
libc6:i386 and linux-libc-dev:i386:

Do you still have problems with long textmails?
I can't confirm this behavior on actual squeeze (3.1.6) and wheezy
(10.0.4-1) versions.
If there was such problems in old versions this could be still
fixed upstream.

Bug#675700: deflate support for https://https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php

Well, fetch.cgi *is* status/fetch.php (since July 2011). I've checked
the response headers and there was always a Content-Encoding: gzip header.
I've also checked using http://www.gidnetwork.com/tools/gzip-test.php
and it reported that the page was gzip compressed. Finally, I checked
the apache2 config which is serving the website and mod_deflate is
enabled and has this bit of configuration:

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml

Admittedly, it may not work with all browsers… but should do with most
of them.

Did you actually check that page was compressed before filing the
bugreport? In any case, mod_deflate is already enable and correctly
configured on buildd.debian.org.

/export/nbd/bl1); or a bunch of files all at once. For the third
  option, you can use
%s in the filename, which will be expanded to the IP-address of the
  connecting
client. An example would be /export/swaps/swp%s.

I tried /opt/swp%s with and without '', and prepared the file
  /opt/swp10.0.0.201 like:

  dd if=/dev/zero of=swp10.0.0.201 bs=1024k count=0 seek=64
  mkswap swp10.0.0.201

  /dev/nbd0.

What does the server say in its syslog at this point?

Jun 3 11:14:54 mainserver nbd_server[16197]: connect from 10.0.1.12, assigned
file is /tmp/swap%s

Jun 3 11:16:41 host nbd_client[1920]: Exiting.
Jun 3 11:14:54 mainserver nbd_server[16197]: Child exited with 1

So the assigned file is not /tmp/swap10.0.1.12 as expected, but
/tmp/swap%s. %s is not replaced by the IP-address connecting. Of
course, /tmp/swap%s does not exist.

As soon as I prepare a file /opt/swp%s in the same way, swap space is
available on the client and anything works fine.

Did you modify the server config file? If so, what did you set the
 virtstyle option to?

No, no special modifications at all:

root@mainserver:~# cat /etc/nbd-server/config
[generic]
# If you want to run everything as root rather than the nbd user, you
# may either say root in the two following lines, or remove them
# altogether. Do not remove the [generic] section, however.
user = nbd
group = nbd

# What follows are export definitions. You may create as much of them
  as
# you want, but the section header has to be unique.
[export]
exportname = /tmp/swap%s
port = 9573

So it looks as if %s is not replaced by the IP-address of the client.

Hope this helps debugging the issue.

Best regards,

 Andi

Thank you for reporting this issue.

Yes, this problem is definitely KFreeBSD-specific. Cupt calls mkdir('/')
and expects EEXIST but get EISDIR [1]. This is not allowed by POSIX [2]
so I believe this is a bug in kfreebsd kernels.

I also guess I will have to implement a workaround for this but before

I see you had some revert implimented. Some package splits are a bit

Looks good to me. I have cloned a working copy where I can write to

@Fathi: will the above named vcs on code.x2go.org work for you as
starting point? Osamu could clone that on collab-maint. Are you ok
with co- aintenance? Shall we create a team-context for maintenance?
One possibility could be that we place the development of the LJT

team(easy for me :-) ).

I can help general simple packaging based on Ubuntu work but I can not
be competent on complicated library packaging with ABI compatibility
  etc.

I guess the QA has to be done by Fathi, Doko or someone with similar
experience. However, we can give them our work and together the
 package may evolve.

Can anything be done about
it? Anything that we can do?

I assume that Osamu refer to this line of the IJG license:

(1) If any part of the source code for this software is distributed, then this
README file must be included, with this copyright and no-warranty notice
unaltered; and any additions, deletions, or changes to the original files

For example, when I released libjpeg 6b1, I added a file README.6b1

multiarch support using vorlon's patch, and uploaded it to DELAYED/10,
as I note y0ou aren't in the low-threashold-NMU list. I hope this is
 OK with you.
This is more than two weeks ago now. Was the update removed from the queue, or
is there another reason this did not yet land in unstable? (Maybe I
misunderstood those DELAYED queues, I am sorry if that is the case)

 Module::Install::ManifestSkip generates a MANIFEST.SKIP file for you
(using Module::Manifest::Skip) that contains the common files that
people do not want in their MANIFEST files. The SKIP file is
generated each time that you (the module author) run Makefile.PL.
 .
You can add your own custom entries at the top of the MANIFEST file.
Just put a blank line after your entries, and they will be left alone.
 .
This module also adds 'MANIFEST' to the clean_files() list so that
make clean will remove your MANIFEST.

Bug#675772: libasound2-plugins: Please split PulseAudio plugin into separate package

2012-06-03 Thread Ralf Jung
Package: libasound2-plugins
Version: 1.0.25-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

please split the PulseAudio plugin for ALSA into a separate package.

libpulse in unstable is by now installable in a foreign architecture using
multiarch. However, for foreign-arch ALSA-based applications to have any sound
on a system using PulseAudio, libasound2-plugins needs to be installed in that
architecture as well. This package also contains other plugins not needed for
just playing sound through PA, and the dependencies caused by these plugins [1]
[2] currently block the package from being installable in a foreign
architecture.
By splitting the PA plugin into its own package, those problems no longer block
using PA on a multiarch system.

Kind regards,
Ralf

Bug#635548: CVE-2011-2716

2012-06-03 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hi all,

Reading the bug about CVE-2011-2716, I think the only question left is this:

So, in all cases the variable is enclosed in double quotes.

Yes this look secure. What about the udeb script?
 /debian/tree/busybox-udeb/usr/share/udhcpc/default.script:
 do_resolv_conf() {
 local cfg=/etc/resolv.conf

 if [ -n $domain ] || [ -n $dns ]; then
 echo -n $cfg
 if [ -n $domain ]; then
 echo search $domain $cfg
 fi

 for i in $dns ; do
 echo nameserver $i $cfg
 done
 fi
 }

 Not quoted in thsi case.

Does this still need to be fixed? If it is fixed then I think we can
consider this issue done.

Cheers,
Thijs

No idea.

Anyhow, at this point I think that Wookey and Gergely Nagy should contact each

Bug#675776: llgal: use exif orientation to rotate images

2012-06-03 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: llgal
Version: 0.13.17-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Some cameras, when taking pictures vertically, use the Exif tag Orientation
to indicate that the image should be rotated when displayed. It seems that
browsers do not handle that tag, so it would be nice if llgal could detect that
tag, and rotate the pictures when generating the thumbnails and the scaled
images.

Example output of exiftool that shows the Orientation tag:

Bug#675778: llgal: prefetching does not work with epiphany

2012-06-03 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: llgal
Version: 0.13.17-2
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

To trigger the prefetching of the next slide, llgal uses the
rel=prefetch header. Apparently this is not supported by epiphany (nor,
possibly, with other webkit-based browsers such as chromium).
(See test on http://browserspy.dk/prefetch.php)

Instead, igal2 uses javascript:
SCRIPT type=text/javascript language=javascript defer
   !--
   if (document.images){
  Image1  = new Image();
  Image1.src  = .slide_P1010881.JPG;
   } //--
/SCRIPT

Maybe llgal could do both?

Bug#673180: evolution: caldav-based calendars are not working properly

2012-06-03 Thread Kai Juse
Package: evolution
Version: 3.2.2-1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #673180

Dear Maintainer,

I get the same problem when trying to use evolution 3.2.2-1+b1 with davical
1.0.2-1, though
it does not appear to be a universal problem with caldav, but only when the
ETag is quoted
(which it is with davical).

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=1327947491.31941.3.camel%40localhostforum_name=freeassociation-devel

My attempt to downgrade to a working version of evolution / libical0 was
repelled by
strong dependency opposition. The following quick-fix workaround to davical made
my setup workable again for me. I broadened the equivalency of acceptable ETags
to what
libical/evolution offers. This might be of interessed to some readers of this
report.
Use at your own risk.

Bug#572492: pwauth: Default SERVER_UIDS in config.h doesn't allow use by other services

2012-06-03 Thread Gary Richards
Hi,

I've been trying to use pwauth with exim as described in
http://wiki.exim.org/AuthenticatedSmtpUsingPwauth

As this original ticket here describes, i've had a similar issue where I
had to rebuild pwauth with my own uids to allow the Debian-exim user to be
able to call pwauth.

It would be much nicer for me if I could just have added that user to a
group rather than have to maintain my own package.

Thanks

No, because these packages are architecture specific, so they are not
co-installable. For example libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev might have
conflicting files, but you can't install libc0.1-dev (kfreebsd-amd64
only) together with libc6-dev, unless they are marked M-A: same.

Marking them M-A: same is not going to resolve these conflicts,
because libc0.1-dev and libc6-dev still belong to different package
sets, and with --force-overwrite you can install libc0.1-dev along
 libc6-dev already.

My point there is that given the package is that marking as M-A: same
also implicitly means that the packager has verified that the package is
not going to conflict with any other file. And if he/she failed to do
so, it's a serious bug in the package, like we handled file conflicts
bugs before the multiarch era.

Currently theses packages are not marked as M-A: same, so it's not a
bug in a package, but rather a bug in a multiarch specification allowing
this.

or we have to check for these packages as if they were a single one.

Renaming seems to be the best long-term solution to me, but using
conflicts is probably safer for wheezy. For instance,
kfreebsd-kernel-headers:kfreebsd-i386 contains files clashing with both
 libc6:i386 and linux-libc-dev:i386:

I came to the same conclusion.

  Version : 0.16
Upstream Author : Ingy döt Net i...@cpan.org
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Module-Manifest-Skip/
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : MANIFEST.SKIP management for Perl modules

Module::Manifest::Skip is mostly intended for module packaging
frameworks to share a common, up-to-date MANIFEST.SKIP base. For
example, Module::Install::ManifestSkip, uses this module to get the
actual SKIP content. However this module may be useful for any module
 author.
 .
CPAN module authors use a MANIFEST.SKIP file to exclude certain well
known files from getting put into a generated MANIFEST file, which
would cause them to go into the final distribution package.
 .
The packaging tools try to automatically skip things for you, but if
you add one of your own entries, you have to add all the common ones
yourself. This module attempts to make all of this boring process as
 simple and reliable as possible.
 .
Module::Manifest::Skip can create or update a MANIFEST.SKIP file for
you. You can add your own entries, and it will leave them alone. You
can even tell it to not skip certain entries that it normally skips,
 although this is rarely needed.

Bug#675760: [Cupt-devel] Bug#675760: E: unable to create the directory '/'

2012-06-03 Thread Petr Salinger

Yes, this problem is definitely KFreeBSD-specific. Cupt calls mkdir('/')
and expects EEXIST but get EISDIR [1]. This is not allowed by POSIX [2]
so I believe this is a bug in kfreebsd kernels.

I also guess I will have to implement a workaround for this but before
let's see what KFreeBSD maintainers say.

Please note, that this behaviour affects only mkdir /,
mkdir /home or mkdir /bin return File exists.

Bug#604368: NMU for octave- and qt-related bugs

2012-06-03 Thread Sébastien Villemot
Dear Maintainer,

I’ve prepared an NMU for pfstools which fixes #604368 (Qt3-Qt4
transition), #666959 (Octave 3.2-3.6 transition) and the Lintian error
about obsolete dpatch. The NMU relies on the new upstream release 1.8.5
(which fixes the Qt issue).

Please find attached the debdiff (only for the debian/ subdir).

I am going to look for a sponsor for this NMU. If you want me to provide
a series of patches that you can incorporate into your VCS, don't
hesitate to ask.

Thanks for you work,

Bug#675785: pkg-config requires libgcrypt but libgcrypt does not ship pkg-config file

2012-06-03 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: libssh2-1-dev
Version: 1.4.2-1
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi!

Since 1.4.2, it is not possible to compile a program depending on
libssh2 if it uses pkg-config and the associated autoconf macro. Here
is the error message:

configure: error: Package requirements (libssh2 = 1.2.5) were not met:

Package libgcrypt was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgcrypt.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'libgcrypt', required by 'libssh2', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables SSH2_CFLAGS
and SSH2_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

It seems that libgcrypt11-dev does not come with a .pc file.

 Not quoted in thsi case.

Does this still need to be fixed? If it is fixed then I think we can
 consider this issue done.

The version of busybox currently in experimental verifies
all the strings returned by dhcpd and if any bad char is
found, it replaces the whole thing with literal string
bad when exporting the variable to the script. So
there should be no need to quote anything anymore.

I haven't closed this bug becaue I merely forgot about it,
and because I also wanted to recheck all open bugs when
finally uploading busybox 1.20 to unstable. My current
changelog contains mentions of closing of this bug, too.

Thank you for the reminder, this means these serious issues
weren't forgotten! And indeed they weren't!.. :)
