Bug#612341: libjpeg-turbo, getting it into wheezy

Aside from the backlog, the package is generally in good shape and works well for most users. The upstream development is fairly stable, with the most recent code release happening about a year ago. Upstream rule updates are still fairly common, and although they should probably be pulled in to the package more frequently than they have, I imagine that most users are relying on sa-update to keep up-to-date. Spamassassin is written in perl, with an additional small C program (spamc). The source is maintained in svn and uses quilt for patch management. I'm perfectly happy to see patches attached to some of the open bugs, so please don't hesitate to send them in. Ideally I'd like to get a co-maintainer or two, though. Preferably these would be people who run spamassassin in production somewhere, and who are thus appropriately sensitive to the issues that come with mucking with other peoples' email. Bug#676114: Ruby help needed (Was: Bug#676114: wordnet: FTBFS: debian/wn-for-goldendict.rb:465: invalid multibyte char (US-ASCII))
Per Andersson escreveu isso aí: Please see the attached patch and try if it works. Heh, except that you missed other usages of the same pattern. Andreas, please try the attached patch. As Per explained, the problem is that in Ruby 1.8, a string is an array of bytes, so str[0] returns a number (the byte at position 0). Ruby 1.9 is fully encoding-aware, so a string is an array of characters and str[0] returns a string that is the first *character* in str. What I did was replacing the occurrences of str[0] with str.bytes.first to explicitly request the first *byte* in str. The resulting output when run with Ruby 1.9 is pretty much the same as the original version generates when run by Ruby 1.8, *except* for the ordering between lowercase and lowercase letters. Maybe that is due to some other detail, but understanding that script completely is too much for me. :) If that's not acceptable, you can also (at least for Wheezy) run the script from debian/rules with `ruby1.8` instead of `ruby` and build depend on ruby1.8 explicitly. Hi, Andreas and the other people! I see you have already patched the script. Sorry for my later response: I'm very busy these days: I'm trying to change my job. Bug#676322: request-tracker4: rt-crontool permissions not as recommended
Package: request-tracker4 Version: 4.0.5-1~bpo60+1 Severity: normal rt-crontool is not useable with users outside of user root (not recommended) and group www-data. The documentation of RT-Crontool specifies: --- This tool allows the user to run arbitrary perl modules from within RT. If this tool were setgid, a hostile local user could use this tool to gain administrative access to RT. It is incredibly important that nonprivileged users not be allowed to run this tool. It is suggested that you create a non-privileged unix user with the correct group membership and RT access to run this tool (see User Configuration below). [...] rt-crontool should ideally be run by a special unprivileged operating system user who has also been entered in RT as a privileged user with global [= ModifyTicket ] and [= ShowTicket ] rights. If you have created an operating system user named rtcrontool, for instance, then create an RT user with Username and Unix login set to rtcrontool, check Let this user be granted rights, and assign a password. Then under Configuration/Global/User rights, add the two rights to the user you just created. This user should have read access to the RT files such as RT_Config.pm and RT_SiteConfig.pm. If, for example, the rt group has read access to all the installed RT files, you should assign your created user to that group (under UNIXen). http://requesttracker.wikia.com/wiki/UseRtCrontool --- It also seems, that runnint rt-crontool as root is inappropriate (Somebody indicates that you can run the tool as root (uid 0), but that didn't work properly for me when using rt-crontool to do priority escalation.). In addition, simply using a unprivilged system account requires that account to be in the group www-data, which is doable, but not necessarily nice as the RT_SiteConfig.pm file's permissions prevent access from other users: -rw-r- 1 root www-data 12405 29. Mär 17:09 RT_SiteConfig.pm If I read the aforementioned Wiki page right, the default way would be having RT have its own system group which owns the files in question. That again would need Apache to be in that system group, so I am not sure what the ideal solution here is as both Apache and rt-crontool need access to the configuration files. However, adding rt-crontool users to www-data definitly is a workaround to with. -- Package-specific info: Changed files: There are locally modified files in /usr/local/share/request-tracker4/, these may (or may not) be the source of the problem. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.5 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'stable-updates') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages request-tracker4 depends on: ii dbconfig-common 1.8.46+squeeze.0 common framework for packaging dat ii debconf [debconf- 1.5.36.1 Debian configuration management sy ii fonts-droid [ttf- 20101110+git-3~bpo60+1 handheld device font with extensiv ii libapache-session 1.87-1 Perl modules for keeping persisten ii libcache-simple-t 0.27-2 Perl module to cache and expire ke ii libcgi-emulate-ps 0.10-1~bpo60+1 PSGI adapter for CGI ii libcgi-pm-perl3.49-1squeeze1 module for Common Gateway Interfac ii libcgi-psgi-perl 0.13-1~bpo60+1 Adapt CGI.pm to the PSGI protocol ii libclass-accessor 0.34-1 Perl module that automatically gen ii libclass-returnva 0.55-1 A return-value object that lets yo ii libconvert-color- 0.05-1 Perl module for color space conver ii libcss-squish-per 0.09-1 module to compact many CSS files i ii libdata-ical-perl 0.16+dfsg-1Perl module for manipulating iCale ii libdatetime-local 1:0.45-1 Perl extension providing localizat ii libdatetime-perl 2:0.6100-2 module for manipulating dates, tim ii libdbi-perl 1.612-1Perl Database Interface (DBI) ii libdbix-searchbui 1.59-2~bpo60+1 Perl implementation of a simple OR ii libdevel-globalde 0.02-1 Expose PL_dirty, the flag which ma ii libdevel-stacktra 1.2700-1~bpo60+1 Perl module containing stack trace ii libemail-address- 1.889-2RFC 2822 Address Parsing and Creat ii libencode-perl2.44-1~bpo60+1 module providing interfaces betwee ii libfcgi-procmanag 0.18-2 Functions for managing FastCGI app ii libfile-sharedir- 1.00-0.1 Locate per-dist and per-module sha ii libgd-graph-perl 1.44-3 Graph Plotting Module for Perl 5 ii libgd-text-perl 0.86-5 Text utilities for use with GD ii libgnupg-interfac 0.42-3 Perl interface to GnuPG ii libgraphviz-perl 2.04-1 Perl interface to
Bug#676323: Regression: Does not configure multiple routes
Package: isc-dhcp-client Version: 4.2.2.dfsg.1-5 Severity: important File: /sbin/dhclient -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, this seems to be a recent regression, either in dhclient or ifupdown, unfortunately I cannot find a related changelog entry in either package. Until a few days ago, my setup worked fine where I had eth0 and wlan0 both active, depending on whether the cable was plugged resp. a wireless network around. dhclient would set up routes, including default routes, for both networks and the kernel would do the right thing, i.e. prefer eth0. If one or the other network goes down, things continue to work without problem. Since a few days it seems that dhclient does not set a default route if one exists, so the first interface to come up gets the default route, and the second not. If the first then goes down I am left with no default route at all. I hope you can tell from the description what change trigged this and how to fix it (or at least how to configure my system to work as before). Bug#675934: st - slow tape read/write rate
Thanks for the quick reply. Can you get a backtrace from this segfault? udev maintainers, any advice on how to do so? Sorry, I do not know how to do it. I would be grateful if anybody help me with this. Please attach full dmesg output from trying 2.6.32-45 from squeeze and a 3.x.y kernel from sid, experimental, or squeeze-backports. I will try upgrade to the latest squeeze kernel and try 3.x kernel from squeeze-backports. But I'm not sure that it will quickly, because this is production server and experiment with it is too difficult. WBR, Yury O. Also, “ip” works if a metric is given. Judging from the script, I should be able to set a metric with IF_METRIC, but that does not work: $ export IF_METRIC=1 $ dhclient -1 -v -pf /run/dhclient.wlan0.pid -lf /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.wlan0.leases wlan0 21|egrep -i metric\|ip\ -4 + ip -4 addr add 141.3.177.82/255.255.254.0 broadcast 141.3.177.255 dev wlan0 label wlan0 + if_metric= + ip -4 route add default via 141.3.176.254 dev wlan0 Why the the variable not visible in dhclient-script? I have had the setting “metric 1” in my wlan0 stanca in /etc/network/interfaces, so it is possible that some change in dhclient prevented the environment variable to be visible in the script environment and thus broke setting up multiple routes. Looking further I see that dhclient does set up an explicit argument for the script and only includes stuff that has been passed via -e, which the current ifupdown code does not. Did it before? It did a long time ago (see #235993), but that does not explain the recent breakage here. I’m CC’ing ifupdown@p.d.o, as maybe a change in ifupdown caused this (although I don’t see anything in the changelog). Greetings, Joachim PS: I looked at installing ifmetric (as suggested in some very old bugreport, #300987) but it does not help; it will only _change_ metrics of existing routes, which does not help here, as the route is not even created in the first place. -- Joachim nomeata Breitner Debian Developer nome...@debian.org | ICQ# 74513189 | GPG-Keyid: 4743206C JID: nome...@joachim-breitner.de | http://people.debian.org/~nomeata signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#585409: this bug .. bugs me
On Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 11:52:52AM -0400, Joey Hess wrote: This bug is a textbook example of making the perfect the enemy of the good. It's disconcerting that we, or our users, are willing to put up with this. I see what you mean and I absolutely agree with the general principle. We have a tradition of being perfectionists in Debian, which is great, but that couldn't be at stake with actually getting something (decently) working to our users. But in this specific case, in which I've been involved a bit encouraging the recent course of action, I think that was not the only issue. Rather, the problem seemed to be a mixture of what you mentioned + the usual difficulty in acknowledging we are busy and the willingness of letting it go our control a bit, so that others could chime in. It is human, understandable, to some extent normal, and very well-known in Debian. The problem seems now on good track to be properly solved for Wheezy, thanks to the work of Michael, Stephen, and Ove. But if there is some sort of a take away message on this, I think it should rather be that opening up package maintenance when we're busy and others are willing to contribute is often the right way to go. There is very little to lose, very little that cannot be undone, and often a lot to gain for our users. Even better, maintainers can prevent this kind of things from happening by opening up *by default*, allowing commit to package maintenance Vcs to all DDs, and documenting that commits there are welcome as long as they follow some house rules. All later versions exhibited the same problem. See the attached Xorg.0.log below. The linux kernel was upgraded from 3.2.12-1 to 3.2.15-1 in the same install session. It is now at 3.2.18-1. Package: libapt-pkg4.12 Version: 0.9.5.1 Severity: minor apt-pkg/contrib/cmndline.h From the definition of CommandLine::Args::end() either ShortOpt or LongOpt may be NULL. However, any Args with LongOpt NULL will cause a segfault in CommandLine::Parse at this point: // Match up to a = against the list Args *A; const char *OptEnd = strchrnul(Opt, '='); for (A = ArgList; A-end() == false stringcasecmp(Opt,OptEnd,A-LongOpt) != 0; A++); Checking for A-LongOpt == 0 before stringcasecmp, as in the attached patch, is sufficient to avoid this. cmndline-null-longopt.patch Description: Binary data test.cc Description: Binary data

Bug#676337: gnome-shell: CPU overheats after suspend (wake up)
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.4.1-5 Severity: important Hello everybody, Before anything, the reason I'm submitting this bug under this package rather then linux-image is because after the bug #673211 GNOME seems to be more unstable then ever before. If in the end it's concluded this has nothing to do with gnome-shell package I sincerely appologize and ask to be appropriately reassigned. After device is turned on after it has been in suspend, my CPU starts to overheat along with fan working on its maximum. http://foolcontrol.org/cloud/public.php?service=filestoken=b617c5a8e72c216c1737d586759b74a207116a46file=/Pictures/Bugs/cpu%20temperature-fan%20after%20suspend.png Another abnormality I've noticed which could be related to this is that Power settings are missing an option of what to do when lid is closed while plugin in AC, thus when lid is down my device goes directly to suspend mode. http://foolcontrol.org/cloud/public.php?service=filestoken=c6f0058aa496a8a7a12ac8063907503cc24e29f1file=/Pictures/Bugs/missing%20button%20-%20when%20lid%20is%20closed%20on%20power%20what%20to%20do.png Am looking forward you reply, Adnan -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (600, 'unstable'), (300, 'testing'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-shell depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.12.1-1 ii gconf-service3.2.5-1 ii gir1.2-accountsservice-1.0 0.6.15-4 ii gir1.2-atk-1.0 2.4.0-2 ii gir1.2-caribou-1.0 0.4.2-2 ii gir1.2-clutter-1.0 1.10.6-1 ii gir1.2-cogl-1.0 1.10.2-3 ii gir1.2-coglpango-1.0 1.10.2-3 ii gir1.2-folks-0.6 0.6.9-1 ii gir1.2-freedesktop 1.32.1-1 ii gir1.2-gconf-2.0 3.2.5-1 ii gir1.2-gcr-3 3.4.1-3 ii gir1.2-gdesktopenums-3.0 3.4.2-1 ii gir1.2-gdkpixbuf-2.0 2.26.1-1 ii gir1.2-gee-1.0 0.6.4-2 ii gir1.2-gkbd-3.0 3.4.0.2-1 ii gir1.2-glib-2.0 1.32.1-1 ii gir1.2-gmenu-3.0 3.4.2-1 ii gir1.2-gnomebluetooth-1.03.4.0-2 ii gir1.2-gtk-3.0 3.4.2-1 ii gir1.2-json-1.0 0.14.2-1 ii gir1.2-mutter-3.03.4.1-4 ii gir1.2-networkmanager-1.00.9.4.0-5 ii gir1.2-pango-1.0 1.30.0-1 ii gir1.2-polkit-1.00.105-1 ii gir1.2-soup-2.4 2.38.1-2 ii gir1.2-telepathyglib-0.120.18.1-2 ii gir1.2-telepathylogger-0.2 0.4.0-1 ii gir1.2-upowerglib-1.00.9.16-2 ii gjs 1.32.0-2 ii gnome-bluetooth 3.4.0-2 ii gnome-icon-theme-symbolic3.4.0-2 ii gnome-settings-daemon3.4.2-3 ii gnome-shell-common 3.4.1-5 ii gnome-themes-standard3.4.2-1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas3.4.2-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.4.0-2 ii libc62.13-33 ii libcairo-gobject21.12.2-2 ii libcairo21.12.2-2 ii libcamel-1.2-29 3.2.2-3 ii libcanberra0 0.28-4 ii libclutter-1.0-0 1.10.6-1 ii libcogl-pango0 1.10.2-3 ii libcogl9 1.10.2-3 ii libcroco30.6.5-1 ii libdbus-1-3 1.5.12-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.98-1 ii libebook-1.2-12 3.2.2-3 ii libecal-1.2-10 3.2.2-3 ii libedataserver-1.2-153.2.2-3 ii libedataserverui-3.0-1 3.2.2-3 ii libffi5 3.0.10-3 ii libfolks25 0.6.9-1 ii libgck-1-0 3.4.1-3 ii libgconf-2-4 3.2.5-1 ii libgcr-3-1 3.4.1-3 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.26.1-1 ii libgee2 0.6.4-2 ii libgirepository-1.0-11.32.1-1 ii libgjs0b

Bug#676343: lirc: /var/run/lirc contents disappear due to subtle udev interaction
Package: lirc Version: 0.9.0~pre1-1 Severity: normal Hi, I was trying to get lirc running, but for some reason the /var/run/lirc directory showed up empty after boot. Lircd was running, but the socket and pidfile were not there. After a morning of debugging I found out what was happening, but I'm not sure whose fault this is or what is the best way to fix it, nor why this does not affect all users. The system I'm trying this on is a highly customized Debian-live setup, but I don't think that the behaviour I'm about to describe is limited to this system. This system uses an on-board CIR controller (connected internally through PCI I think), so perhaps this bug doesn't trigger for USB devices, only for PCI devices and that's why nobody noticed it until now? Anyway, here's what happens for me: - During system boot, /etc/rcS.d/S03udev makes udev synthesize initial hotplug add events. - Udev responds to the add event for the CIR controller by calling /etc/init.d/lirc restart, which starts lircd. - /etc/rcS.d/S13mountall-bootclean.sh then runs, and cleans out all files in /var/run/lirc (leaving the directory to exist, I think). - /etc/rc2.d/S19lirc runs, but lircd doesn't start because it's already running. The end result is a system with a running lircd, but no way to actually reach it. I'll be working around this problem by removing the udev rules file, but I'm happy to help out with further details or by testing proposed fixes. Gr. Bug#675925: Urgency
Hi! Thanks for fixing it, but can I kindly ask you upload a package ASAP? As hinted in bug #675863, this problem breaks GDM meaning that if you're running systemd and gdm, you can't login. :( I realize systemd isn't the default init system, but since a lot of stuff higher in the stack is beginning to think about using it, I think it's not that uncommon for people to have it installed. If you already have your own handcrafted shlibs file, that will take precidence, as seen in the above transcript. I hope I described the problem clearer this time. Either dh_makeshlibs or dh_shlibdeps should be fixed, and dh_makeshlibs looks to me as the better place. The intention is to replace the amd-libopencl1 package name with the virtual package libopencl1 that is provided by all implementations of libOpenCL.so.1, unfortunately the amd-clinfo package picks up the strict dependency on amd-libopencl1. This is not what I intended. Bug#676350: [pcmanfm] pcmanfm crashes on drag n drop bookmark
Package: pcmanfm Version: 0.9.7-1 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- From a fresh lxde install, opening a session, running pcmanfm, creating a new directory, drag n droppping it to the left panel of bookmarks. Same result with dialog box however. Good to know : within a lxde session, pcmanfm is already running with --desktop --profile LXDE and thus manages the desktop. Running it again just shows up the main window for file management. pcmanfm is a single instance program. The crash actually just closes the window apparently. Rerunning pcmanfm shows the bookmark in place. However this is annoying. From the container address (0x1), one may say that there is a memory reference trouble. Line 381 from main-win.c GList* mis = gtk_container_get_children(GTK_CONTAINER(win-bookmarks_menu)) I tried but didn't find any clue. Maybe a UI management trouble. When one kills pcmanfm and leave desktop management to the window manager (eg openbox), runs pcmanfm without any arguments, this bug doesn't appear. Bug#674006: libwvstreams4.6-base 4.6.1-4 ----- wvdial stopped working
Dear Gregor Herrmann, As you were the kind DD who fixed the gcc 4.7 failure to build for libwvstreaams4.6-base, I am emailing you regarding this bug since you might be able to do a QA upload. This bug relates to further problems with libwvstreams4.6-base when building with gcc 4.7 rather than gcc 4.6. The compiler aggressively optimizes causing a failure when trying to use the wvdial package. The fedora project has also found a problem with gcc 4.7 and wvstreams package. The assert error wvdial: utils/wvtask.cc:409: static void WvTaskMan::_stackmaster(): Assertion `magic_number == -0x123678' failed. thrown by wvdial is caused by a failure in libwvstreams4.6-base. In particular the variable magicnumber should be marked volatile to prevent compiler optimizations. I attach the Fedora version of the patch. It may need to be refreshed for use in Debian. The original discussion at Fedora for this bug is found at: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.extras.cvs/779635 Please note wvdial is a way of dialing a 3G cell phone modem for internet connection. It is thus important for accessing the internet for some users. Would you be able to refresh this patch and upload to Debian? I am unable to do this since I am a lowly uploader for an unrelated packages festival and speech-tools. I have no archive upload privileges to Debian. If you are unable to address this, do you know the correct DD to assist since it appears to me the package is an orphan? with the very best regards, Peter Peter Drysdale (Uploader for festival and speech-tools) magic.patch Description: Binary data

Bug#673835: liblablgtksourceview2-ocaml: Could debian package provides upstream unreleased META file instead of wrong ad hoc one ?
Le 21/05/2012 19:13, Pierre Boutillier a écrit : I use recently bind function in lablgtk but I can't check that it is lablgtk 2.14.2 that is installed because the META file says it is 2.14.0. I'm fine with fixing the META file... Upstream proposes now a much more complete META file that fixes several issues but no new version with it has been released. Using this file is not completely transparent because ocamlfind -pkg lablgtksourceview2.gtksourceview2 foo.ml has to be transformed in ocamlfind -pkg lablgtk2.sourceview2 foo.ml. ...but I think it's too late now in the release cycle to do such important change, especially since it has not been released upstream and hence is subject to modification. Bug#667737: libnet-server-perl: no IPv4 server when binding to localhost
tags 667737 + fixed-upstream thanks Hi, intrigeri wrote (05 Jun 2012 11:06:12 GMT) : It looks like upstream Net-Server 2.x supports IPv6 somehow, so we might be able to drop our Debian specific patch, which in turn might fix this bug. I'll test this sometime in June. With Net-Server 2.002 and Niko's test case: - the process binds to 127.0.0.1:1600 - telnet 127.0.0.1 1600 succeeds - telnet localhost 1600 tries ::1, then 127.0.0.1 and succeeds In short, those who want to listen of IPv6 have to ask for it explicitly. This may bring its own share of problems, but as far as the current bug (#667737) is concerned, things definitely look better upstream 2.002 than with our own 0.99-4. I'll send an email on debian-perl ML soon about other questions raised by the Net-Server 2.002 update.
