Bug#731787: texmacs: please migrate to guile-2.0
Hi Rob, On Mon, 09 Dec 2013 13:22:49 -0600, Rob Browning wrote: Package: texmacs Version: 1:1.0.7.18-1 I'm trying to have guile-1.6 (and soon guile-1.8) removed from unstable, please migrate to guile-2.0 (or at least guile-1.8) as soon as possible. Well, at present, texmacs depends on guile-1.6 only on ia64 and I'm not sure if guile-1.8 works fine with ia64. Further, upstream says that texmacs isn't built with guile-2.0 yet so I can't migrate to guile-2.0. Sorry for delayed reply and inconvenience. If a given Mediawiki version does not work with PostgreSQL it’s not a valid candidate for me. Plain and simple. If the other maintainers disagree, I’ll have to use a local package instead of using the one in stock Debian and contributing to it. Bug#732835: Provide build tools with more information
On Tue, Dec 24, 2013 at 01:18:46AM +0100, Guillem Jover wrote: On Mon, 2013-12-23 at 11:36:19 +0100, Guido Günther wrote: [..snip..] The current unstructured output of dpkg-buildpackage leaves us only with parsing the logs and looking at the exit status. Since the exit status seems to be that of the invoked command mostly (except for dpkg-checkbuilddeps) we can't infere what failed. So there are two parts: 1.) progress report (which step are we currently at) 2.) error report (which step failed and why) While 2.) can be fixed via more detailed exit codes 1.) can't. Ok, I'll take a look at this while I'm finishing up the dpkg-buildpackage rework for 1.17.6, as at least the first is trivial now that the required foundation for the shell hooks is there. Great! For example for 1.17.6 I'm adding hooks support, which can be useful for wrappers. Hooks are nice and can be useful but they can also be confusing: gbp (hooks) - pbuilder (hooks) - dpkg-buildpackage (hooks) If dpkg-buildpackage doesn't want to suck in the functionality of the other two a nice way to propagate information like progress, errors, build results up the chain would be really nice. Just to be clear, I was not suggesting to use (shell) hooks as a replacement for something like a --status-fd, that might end up being very cumbersome, just an example of things that a frontend/wrapper might need that are only possible if supported by the tool. OTOH something else that I could envision are perl hooks, possibly in addition to the shell ones, so that other tools could be implemented as modules extending dpkg-buildpackage functionality, instead of programs wrapping it. And one could, for example, do something like: $ dpkg-buildpackage --modules schroot, git And get the Dpkg::*::Schroot.pm and Dpkg::*::Git.pm modules loaded and specific hooks run with enough config and information, at the key stage points. I see. This would move dpkg-buildpackage up the stack and turn it into kind of a frontend by itself. This might work out o.k. although I'm quiet happy with dpkg-buildpackage being a bit minimalistic (and therefore very reliable) like it's atm. I wonder if this could hinder dpkg-buildpackage's development speed since we'd have to care about API stability to lots of lots of modules as well? This report is triggered by #732678 where gbp failed to find the generated changes file for a architecture independent package build since it didn't look at the options passed to dpkg-buildpackage until recently. For the problem described in the bug report, I think a better way to solve this is to run lintian directly from dpkg-buildpackage, which will be possible with dpkg 1.17.6, by using the new check-command support. See the following commit for further details: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=dpkg/dpkg.git;a=commitdiff;h=1cef5694 Or do you need the .changes file for something else? (Rahpael pointed this out already) If one may want the build environment to be as minimalistic as possible and not want to have lintian or other verifiers in there. We can also use the changes file to find out about the other build artifacts to upload them to a temp repository or some such. So invoking lintian is not the only usage and Right. I'd rather not see every usage scenario crammed into dpkg-buildpackage itself. Oh, me neither (at least not directly), I was just trying to gather what you had in mind to see how that could be best placed in dpkg-buildpackage (or other tools). Thank you for your feedback! Hi. In Debian wheezy we have the same problem as already described. The AqBanking wizard crashes if I try to creatw a new user. Furthermore gnucash can not handle already existing users. In my attempts to debug this I managed to break my autofs configuration and, bizzarely, gdm3 started working again. When I fixed autofs then I get back to the situation where gdm3 hangs. See also: https://github.com/ruby/ruby/pull/488 There's patches and workarounds floating about to solve this from the ruby side, but am I correct in assuming that things should continue to build within the same upstream_version, even if you bumped the debian_revision? So I understand this is about SSL_OP_MSIE_SSLV2_RSA_PADDING? Please note that that is about SSL v2 for which I've removed support in wheezy. That option also didn't do anything anymore and upstream has now reused that for something else. I'm not sure what ruby is trying to do with it, it probably shouldn't be trying to do whatever it's doing. To install or remove software using USC, you need administrator access on the computer. This package consists of horrible Ubuntu-specific that needs to be patched to work on Debian. It needs an update to the new upstream version, but as the code became increasingly more Ubuntu-specific and I don't have enough free hours to refactor this codebase or hack the Ubuntu stuff out in some way, I need some help. This needs people to disable Ubuntu SSO and similar stuff, as they are pointless to maintain in Debian, and won't offer us any real features. A better way forward is gnome-software, but I believe it needs some more time to implement/discuss the required changes with ftpmasters, but that's mak's work. -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/. Bug#730177: Well, the problem isn't the home directory, it's /usr/local
I ran gdm3 under strace both with and without the network connected. When the network is not connected (so no nfs directories are mounted) gdm3 shows the greeter screen. When the network *is* connected, so the nfs directories are mounted the greeter screen is not showing. I examined the strace output, expecting to see it having problems with my home directory, but no, there were many EACCES errors accessing /usr/local. I'd forgotten that /usr/local was also nfs mounted. I've removed /usr/local/ from the fstab and now the gdm greeter works even when my home directory is nfs mounted. At the moment I can't be sure what is the exact problem (The strace files are insanely large, and I think they don't capture everyting), I'll keep looking.

Bug#731795: failures under load with slapd in wheezy
Perhaps some of this background information will be useful: We did not see this issue in slapd 2.4.23-7.3, in squeeze. The number of unique entries in the LDAP database do not appear to affect where it starts dropping connections, as we've tested with 2 to over 500 unique accounts. The number of entries searched for do not seem to affect where connections start failing, as tests were run on one particular DN, and on up to 15 unique DNs. This can be reproduced through a simple while loop in shell, using the ldapsearch command line tools. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#733241: nouveau breaks Xsession with a NVIDIA Corporation GF108
Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau Version: 1:1.0.1-5 X-Debbugs-CC: llangr...@hotmail.com The PC has two cards: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] [10de:0de1] (rev a1) and 3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo Banshee [121a:0003] (rev 03). The full lspci output is attached at the end of this email. In a Debian 6, the nouveau driver is not installed in the default installation and the Xsession works. In Debian 7, the nouveau driver is installed by default and the Xsession doesn't work: the system boots, but at the moment when KDM or GDM should start, the only thing that the screen shows is only the mouse pointer as a cross. You can do Ctrl Alt Fx to operate in real console... but if you move the mouse pointer, it moves but Ctrl Alt Fx stops working and you only can do a force poweroff or reboot. The only solution is a apt-get purge nouveau* to force to use the generic driver, and then the Xsession works (is not KDM or GDM specific bug). I suspect something went wrong with updating the alternative for aclocal. I would try a dpkg-reconfigure automake and see if that fixes it, or at least produces some interesting output. -- Russ Allbery (r...@debian.org) http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/mtab' (Followed by another bunch of similar errors) In my previous experiences with chrooted build environment I remember /etc/mtab was not replicated in the chroot (using schroot for instance). I'm wondering then if this is actually an issue in glances packaging. I believe '/etc/mtab' should exist on regular environment. I believe starting with Wheezy, /etc/mtab is a symlink to /proc/mounts [1], but that of course doesn't/shouldn't concern chroots. According to the glibc documentation, however, software shouldn't rely on the existence of the mtab file: Note that the fstab and mtab files are maintained on a system by convention. It is possible for the files not to exist or not to be consistent with what is really mounted or available to mount [2] Which makes me think that glances should be ported to use /proc/mounts directly. Bug#733249: [libreoffice-writer] Variable type field with NNNN, NNN and NN date format codes return day name one day in advance
Package: libreoffice-writer Version: 1:4.1.2-2~bpo70+1 Severity: minor --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I was updating a form I created to produce a report every couple of weeks with many fields containing calculated dates set from a single hidden field variable I set at the start of the document. I had changed one displayed field to include a DD/MM/YY format code to show the name of the day so I could cross-check I had entered the raw date correctly but instead of the Friday, 27/12/13 date I got for an entered value of 5110 I got Saturday, 27/12/13 instead. A cursory search of the LibreOffice bugzilla page did not reveal any obvious reports of this. Adding a time code to the beginning of the format, i.e. changing to: HH:MM:SS on NNN,DD/MM/YY and changing the value to 5110.25 yields a result of 06:00:00 on Saturday, 27/12/13 which suggests to me that (as I am on Zulu / UTC time) that this is not a time zone issue. Bug#733251: 'git commit' should catch files needing update due to new attributes
Package: git Version: 1:2.0~next.20131217-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream Suppose I add the following line to .gitattributes: *.java text Meanwhile, the repo has had one .java file with CRLF line endings for a while (a mistake, but it happens). Because the 'text' attribute promises that the file should have LF endings when checked in, unless I update that file, anyone cloning the repository on Windows will see it as modified --- if they were to add the unchanged file with git add and commit then the line endings would be fixed. Best for me to fix the line ending now in the same commit as I add .gitattributes. Unfortunately (especially if I do not use Windows) it is likely I will not notice. Could git commit help? I'm imagining an error when attempting to commit an attribute change that promises files will only contain LF endings and they don't. It would still be possible to commit such a change by running git commit again with --force.
