Upon booting, just got infinite loop of iwlwifi trying to find firmware. Was that a warm reboot? ( Was it without a power cycle? ) How was iwlwifi trying to find firmware shown to you? ( How did you know what was inside the infinite loop? ) Upon reboot, this started, Was that a cold reboot? To be more precise, it almost worked: the monitor is not recognized although it used to be. This is definitely another topic but I would appreciate very much your advice, especially as I have systematically such a problem on another computer: to which package should I submit the issue? I don't think I can express this with package relationships: libgl1-nvidia-glx needs to be installed (1) together with xserver-xorg-video-nvidia (and xserver-xorg-core) (regular installation on a host) (2) OR without xserver-xorg-core (and xserver-xorg-video-nvidia) (i.e. libraries from a foreign architecture only or in a chroot without own xserver) i.e. only the combination install libgl1-nvidia-glx:native install xserver-xorg-core:native no-install xserver-xorg-video-nvidia should be forbidden. I'm still intrigued by the message which I definitely seen on the console during an upgrade, which was definitely about a nvidia package and which is not present in /var/apt/log. The problem appeared immediately after this routine upgrade. Perhaps by my actions I made it worst, but the primary reason was (is?) somewhere in the system. Bug#769759: gnome-session continuously logs the contents of documents in home to syslog
Package: gnome-session Version: 3.14.0-2 Severity: grave Dear Maintainer, My system froze suddenly after recent package upgrades and rebooted automatically. After reboot I checked the contents of syslog and found that gnome-session is logging the contents of various PDF files and documents present in my Downloads folder. Here is a sample of the log: snip Nov 16 13:52:08 kal-el gnome-session[2414]: is book to prepare for programming interviews: \n \n Give yourself enough time to prepare. Start your preparations as early as possible, ideally weeks or even months ahead of your interviews. You need that time to practice the concepts presented here. (If you don’t have the luxury of that much time, try to put aside some blocks of uninterrupted time to study the material.) \n Practice answering problems. Don’t just read through the solutions. Work through the problems using the solutions for a hint when you get stuck and to verify your answer. Try to simulate the interview experience. Most of the time you’ll be writing code on paper or a whiteboard; practice this! It sounds silly, but it takes some practice to get the programming part of your brain engaged through a pen instead of a keyboard. \n Make sure you understand the underlying concepts. Understanding the concepts that underlie the problems is the key to your success. Don’ t skip or gloss over the material you don’t understand. Bug#769763: gnome-session-flashback: leaves alternatives after purge: x-session-manager - /usr/lib/gnome-panel/gnome-session-flashback
Package: gnome-session-flashback Version: 3.14.0-1 Severity: important User: debian...@lists.debian.org Usertags: piuparts Hi, during a test with piuparts I noticed your package left unowned files on the system after purge, which is a violation of policy 6.8: https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-removedetails The leftover files are actually alternatives that were installed by the package but have not been properly removed. While there is ongoing discussion how to remove alternatives correctly (see https://bugs.debian.org/71621 for details) the following strategy should work for regular cases: * 'postinst configure' always installs the alternative * 'prerm remove' removes the alternative * 'postrm remove' and 'postrm disappear' remove the alternative In all other cases a maintainer script is invoked (e.g. upgrade, deconfigure) the alternatives are not modified to preserve user configuration. Removing the alternative in 'prerm remove' avoids having a dangling link once the actual file gets removed, but 'prerm remove' is not called in all cases (e.g. unpacked but not configured packages or disappearing packages) so the postrm must remove the alternative again (update-alternatives gracefully handles removal of non-existing alternatives). Bug#761509: fix for jessie?
It would be good to have this fixed for jessie. Correct handling of denormals which are controlled via this register is very important for the performance of e.g. audio applications. If we have a patch I guess it can still be included for Jessie. It is slightly different to #761175 as the initial value of sse control word is same in main() and in newly created thread. The posix says (since Issue 6) http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/functions/pthread_create.html The floating-point environment shall be inherited from the creating thread. I am unsure whether the proper fix should be in libc or kernel. Especially as there might be more and more CPU specific settings. It is cross-platform, runs on Python 2.x and 3.x, and is easy to install. The rationales behind the development of this library are explained in [1]. The upstream author considers the code base mature after 2 years of development and recently released it as a 1.0. I believe this package to be a good fit for the numerical-computation blend from the Debian-science project, and should be maintained by the Debian science team. Control: severity -1 important Hi, intrigeri wrote (01 Nov 2014 12:29:34 GMT) : Daniel Pocock wrote (14 Oct 2014 12:27:52 GMT) : I've rated this serious because it makes the network unusable when it happens and it requires a user with root privileges to rectify it. IMO, given the unusual settings in which the problem happens, severity should rather be important: a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone. I'll let the maintainers judge, though. Two weeks later, I'm going ahead and downgrading severity. Indeed, NetworkManager has no way to guess that it should not touch resolv.conf in this specific case. Your OpenSWAN VPN isn't managed by NM, is it? Could you please try checking Use this connection only for resources on its network in the NM settings of your Wi-Fi connection, and see if it fixes things for you? Also, I think the right way to integrate NM with other tools that want to manage resolv.conf too is to use resolvconf, which NM supposedly supports nowadays. Bug#769770: gnome: Autostart files disappear after login
Package: gnome Version: 1:3.14+1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I want to start the program rygel after logging into a Gnome 3 session automatically. gnome-session-properties disappeared with Gnome-3.12, so I tried to do it the Terminal way: $ ln -s /usr/share/applications/rygel.desktop ~/.config/autostart/ or $ cp /usr/share/applications/rygel.desktop ~/.config/autostart/ It works, but the file ~/.config/autostart/rygel.desktop disappears every time after logging into the Gnome Session. Is this intentionally? Bug#738195: do not display about button for plugins
Control: severity -1 important Hi, Frederic Peters wrote (16 Nov 2014 10:27:07 GMT) : I also went over all plugins and the 'about' button opens the parked domain, or doesn't do anything (if no url is specified to the plugin). Here's a patch (against gnome-do) that simply removes the 'about' button (in the simplest manner, not adding it to a container). \o/ I don't get why this bug would be RC, so I'm downgrading its severity. If someone (users, maintainers, etc.) feel like it really should be fixed in Jessie, there's still a couple weeks to test Frederic's patch, upload and get an unblock. Bug#768164: [Pkg-haskell-maintainers] Bug#768164: haskell-tls: SSLv3 support
Hi Joachim, openssl disabled it entirely; it features a dedicated build flag for it (no-ssl3). Ok, I think we can easily follow suit here. Removing code is always simple :-) Could you approach haskell-tls upstream for their recommendation to disable it? Vincent, did you consider this issue already? Upstream has removed SSLv3 from the default cipher list: https://github.com/vincenthz/hs-tls/commit/5353bd2f717a31fd63c2a5d67112d8d8279bd1e6 Can you at least make an upload to sid that incorporates this patch so we can get it into jessie? Bug#769780: (pre-approval for) unblock: vmdebootstrap/0.5-1
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock I'd like to close two important bugs in vmdebootstrap and upload to unstable to migrate these changes into jessie: #767196 - downgrade dependency on grub2-common (used for grub2 support inside vm images) to a Recommends: to allow for users who are running grub-legacy. #767913 - one character change to the grub2 support to allow a boot partition to be used in a VM image using grub2. Both fixes would also be considered for an update to the existing wheezy-backport, once migrated into jessie. The current package limits users of grub-legacy to not be able to use grub2 in VM images, so this needs to be expressed in the manpage. So I'm proposing to make a new upstream release with the patch from 767913 applied, the changes for 767196 made in debian/control and updates to the grub2 section of the manpage made upstream. If these changes are not likely to be approved, I'll work on a range of the other bugs filed against vmdebootstrap and make a 0.5 upstream tag and release to upload to experimental only. Bug#769785: unblock: rinse/3.0.6
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Please unblock package rinse 3.0.6. Debdiff included. It fixes two important bugs: #768501 [i| [rinse] CentOS 7 support completely broken #768549 [i| [rinse] Missing packages for CentOS6 chroot I'm sorry, but these bug numbers are not included in the changelog, because I've fixed them really fast before the bug reports were available. No change was made to the rinse code itself. I only had to add some packages to the configuration files for CentOS 6 and 7 and some code was added to the centos-7/post-install.sh script. This code is only executed when creating a CentOS7 chroot, but not for any other chroot distribution that is supported by rinse. Bug#768315: unblock: util-linux/2.25.2-3
Hi, Thanks Andreas for your work on util-linux, it’s really appreciated. Le 15/11/2014 17:57, Andreas Henriksson a écrit : I really don't understand why we're having this discussion now at all. Where where everyone before the freeze? The whole message seems unneededly harsh, but as a data point specific to this point, please don’t forget that the first maintainer upload (since before the previous wheezy freeze) that made it into testing was: [2014-10-20] util-linux 2.25.1-5 MIGRATED to testing (Britney) That’s about two weeks prior to the actual freeze. That doesn’t let much time to discuss or spot anything (and yes, I used the versions you uploaded to experimental before that, but I wouldn’t expect everyone to do it, I’m pretty sure d-i didn’t for example). Bug#769792: eom: overwrites file permissions and group id
Package: eom Version: 1.8.0+dfsg1-4+b2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, whenever updating an image, e.g. after rotating it, eom overwrites both file permissions and group id. It seems to use an 7177 mask, that is only the owner keeps access to the updated image. Because of this it is impossible to share images between multiple users without having to manually reset file permissions and/or group id. This does not happen when using shotwell or gimp and imho it should not with eom either. Bug#769794: override: dbus:admin/important
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Please raise the priority of dbus a bit further, from standard to important. It turns out that there are several issues with not having dbus around, stemming from systemd-logind not being available. Among these are: - No TTYs on VT 2-6. - No handling of ACPI events (power switch), #769733 I think this warrants pulling in dbus in all installs (and possibly systemd depending on the dbus package as well).
