I don't know, but not intentionally! My test VM had no special
configuration and no lxc before starting the steps-to-reproduce, so I
was using whatever is the default in bookworm.

  Description : library for working with nested data structures

 A library for working with nested data structures. In a way, tree generalizes
 the builtin map function which only supports flat sequences, and allows one to
 apply a function to each "leaf" preserving the overall structure.
 .
 It is backed by an optimized C++ implementation suitable for use in demanding
 applications, such as machine learning models.

I intend to maintain this as part of the DPT.

Bug#1042899: bind9: Superfluous listen-on-v6 option given in named.conf.options

2023-08-02 Thread Dominic Preston
Package: bind9
Version: 1:9.18.16-1~deb12u1
Severity: minor
X-Debbugs-Cc: lzq...@gmail.com

On a default installation of bind9 on Debian, this option is included:
listen-on-v6 { any; };

According to the bind9 documentation, this is the default anyway, and does
not need to be specified:
https://bind9.readthedocs.io/en/stable/reference.html#namedconf-statement-listen-on-v6

Furthermore, this (unnecessary) listen-on option for IPv4 is not specified
in Debian's default configuration, making listen-on-v6's inclusion
inconsistent with the default IPv4 options:
listen-on { any; };

Therefore I propose this option is removed from the default bind9 Debian
configuration for consistency with IPv4:
listen-on-v6 { any; };

My apologise, I had my endianness mixed the wrong way. python3-gsd
works normally on little-endian systems

and fails on big-endian systems.

The list of arches is correct.

Bug#1042898: RM: python3-gsd [s390x hppa m68k powerpc ppc64 sparc64] -- NBS; not built for little-endian architectures

Package: ftp.debian.org

User: ftp.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: remove
X-Debbugs-Cc: python-...@packages.debian.org
Control: affects -1 + src:python-gsd

Technically python3-gsd builds on little-endian machines, but it does
not work. Assumptions are made in the code about data structures
which means gsd files cannot be read on little-endian machines, and
tests fail on s390x. The python3-gsd is useless on these systems.

The issue is raised in Bug#1042500 and discussed upstream at
https://github.com/glotzerlab/gsd/issues/12

Since gsd in principle can't work on little-endian systems (without
large scale rewriting upstream), the binary packages are no longer
being built for little-endian. For consistency, the old binary
packages on little-endian arches should now be removed.

Bug#1042889: vm: autopkgtest fails against Emacs 29.1

Sean Whitton writes ("Bug#1042889: vm: autopkgtest fails against Emacs 29.1"):

Hi, Sean, as you see we're looking into this.
I have some questions for you as an Emacs expert:

Is byte-compilation known to be sometimes broken? Is there a
recommended approach to problems caused by byte-compilation ?

We recently did an update to vm in Debian stable, to work around a
critical problem with Emacs 28 (#1039105). The autopkgtest which is
now failing is new - I introduced it to detect future bugs, which it
seems to have done.

The previous bug was related to byte-compilation and we "fixed" it by
turning off byte-compilation for at least some of vm's files (in what
I feel was rather an ad-hoc way, albeit an effective one).

Or to put it another way, is it possible that this is a bug in emacs
29.1 and if so what is the best workaround ?

Thanks,
Ian.

Bug#1042897: aptitude: viewing a package's changelog from the TUI outputs a warning that is immediately erased

2023-08-02 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.8.13-5
Severity: normal

When I use "C" (View a package's changelog) on clang-15 from the
aptitude TUI, I get a warning that is immediately erased, so that
it is impossible to read it.

I suppose that aptitude should redirect stderr from
aptitude-changelog-parser so that it can display its contents
(when non empty) in a clear way.

Enabling the terminal's logs allows me to get the text of this
warning:

aptitude-changelog-parser: warning:
/tmp/aptitude-root.7707:EXkCUB/aptitude-download-4-bORTciGPJi,..uo2EeQnZD7WBcD+L6_aptitude-download-cbF3RCIRNjR7d%D7+V.DiRimX__YaCHL(l105):
 found start of entry where expected more change data or trailer

This text seems to come from /usr/share/perl5/Dpkg/Changelog/Debian.pm:

unless ($expect eq FIRST_HEADING || $expect eq NEXT_OR_EOF) {
$self->parse_error($file, $.,
sprintf(g_('found start of entry where expected %s'),
$expect), "$_");
}

About this unexpected warning, there may be some other bug.
But note that "apt changelog clang-15" is fine.

The patch from #1039105 is still in the package.

Do we need to add to a list of files in it, or something, do you
think ? Maybe it would be best to disable byte compilation
completely.

One thing that would be useful would be for someone to try out emacs
and vm in a sid chroot; that would confirm that this isn't a spurious
test failure (or confirm that it is).

Thanks,
Ian.

Thanks a lot for reporting this. We are aware of this but did not find

Is there a good howto/instructions how to debug such problems using e.g.

machine as a Debian Maintainer?

That would help a lot.

Kind regards,

Hi,

We were busy packaging v133 as a way to workaround
the FTBFS of v132, but during this process
we found a whole BIOS added as a .h file.

This will take a while to resolve/strip-out and
may later need the packaging of a new ares-nonfree.

A new release would also depends on ITP's libchdr
that depends on my new-DD process mentoring.

All of this will take a while,
can you please in the meantime remove
the blacklisted architecure to
allow v132-1 to migrate to testing ?

Thank you for your time.

Bug#1042888: gdm3: 61-gdm.rules: bad pattern will skip some future nvidia driver versions

2023-08-02 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: gdm3
Severity: normal

# For nvidia drivers versions Above 510, keep Wayland by default
ATTR{version}=="[5-9][1-9][0-9].*", GOTO="gdm_end"
# For nvidia drivers versions 470-495, prefer Xorg by default
GOTO="gdm_prefer_xorg"

This pattern does not match e.g. 600.*, so some future nvidia releases
might run with a default of Xorg instead of wayland.

Also note the bad capitalization of "Above" in the comment above.

The polkitd and pkexec packages have existed since Debian 12 and Ubuntu
22.04, and policykit-1 was a transitional package in those stable
releases, so it has served its purpose and should be removed before the
next stable release.

Please replace all Depends, Recommends or Build-Depends on policykit-1:

* If this package runs /usr/bin/pkexec, please represent that as a Depends,
  Recommends or Suggests on pkexec, whichever is appropriate.

* If this package communicates with polkitd via D-Bus, please represent that
  as a Depends, Recommends or Suggests on polkitd, whichever is appropriate.

* If this package requires the gettext extensions polkit.its and polkit.loc,
  please build-depend on libpolkit-gobject-1-dev. If the package will be
  backported to bookworm, also build-depend on polkitd.

* If this package requires polkitd and/or pkexec at build-time, please
  build-depend on polkitd and/or pkexec as appropriate.

Bug#1042887: procps: CVE-2023-4016 ps buffer overflow

2023-08-02 Thread Craig Small
Package: procps
Version: 2:4.0.3-1
Severity: important
Tags: security
X-Debbugs-Cc: Debian Security Team

We have a very scant report of a ps buffer overflow security bug.

Under some circumstances, this weakness allows a user who has access to run the
“ps” utility on a machine, the ability to write almost unlimited amounts of
unfiltered data into the process heap.

We don't know the versions impacted, we don't know how to cause it. We
have that single sentence. Once (any) details are given we will update
this bug and the gitlab issue.

I made the severity important because I'm not even sure its a real bug
yet.

Package: zstd
Version: 1.4.8+dfsg-2.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system
X-Debbugs-Cc: christianpeterk...@yahoo.com

Dear Maintainer,

/var/tmp/lib/modules/ does not include files into vmlinuz and this error of
bookworm 6.1 zstd libzstd1 mkinitramfs may cluster the -rt-kernels of 5.10 too

your recent rt-kernel updates 179-3 on to BULLSEYE-to-BOOKWORM upgrade breaks
the boot right after bios.

#KEYPOINT initramfs-tools-core, initramfs-tools, mkinitramfs, zstd, libzstd1
are the core of the issue. VMLINUZ and INITRD.IMG are not created functional
any longer.

The systems are functional and longterm stable before these modifications.

Bookworm 0.142 and 1.54 are problem packages,
Bullseye -rt-22- and -rt-23- kernels are dysfunct now, while non-rt kernel -20-
work yet.

Thank you for your hard work, i hope this helps fix the issue.

Bug#1040782: working with GIMP 2.10.30

2023-08-02 Thread graeme vetterlein

In case it helps in narrowing it down.

I have the wacom tablet connected via a USB switch. If I switch the
hardware to a Kubuntu system running GIMP 2.10.30, it works fine.

The failing system is a "dev box", so if you want me to try a number of
versions (and give brief instructions) I can do that.

As I said previously, the failing system just moved from bookwork to
trixie, I'm afraid I didn't note the (working) gimp version prior to
upgrade.

Bug#1042880: systemd: service with PrivateNetwork=yes fails to start inside a lxc container

I'm not able to reproduce the issue (running LXC on Debian sid).
I use privileged LXC containers with the following config:

# cat /etc/lxc/default.conf
lxc.net.0.type = veth
lxc.net.0.link = lxcbr0
lxc.net.0.flags = up

lxc.apparmor.profile = generated
lxc.apparmor.allow_nesting = 1
lxc.apparmor.profile = unconfined

Are you by any chance using unprivileged containers?

Bug#1042881: ppp: debian-installer fails when using 'modules=ppp-udeb' kernel-parameter to connect via PPPoE

2023-08-02 Thread Markus Schramma
Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.9-1
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i newcomer patch

The debian-installer manual tells that you can use the boot-kernel-parameter
'modules=ppp-udev' to use a PPPoE connection during installation, which I had
used successfully on older (Jessie) versions. Now I want to use that feature in
Bullseye which fails. I have investigated the problem and found two reasons:

1) The ppp-udeb's postinst-script runs pppoe-discovery with the '-A' parameter,
which was deprecated and is removed in the version shipped with bullseye.
Thus ppp-discovery don't run successfully and the installer gives an
error message. I have fixed this successfully:

--- ppp-2.4.9/debian/ppp-udeb.postinst  2021-01-07 01:10:29.0 +0100
+++ ppp-udeb.postinst   2023-08-02 12:10:30.233592399 +0200
@@ -31,7 +31,7 @@
db_progress START 0 $TOTWAIT ppp/detect_progress
for P in "" "-U" ; do
rm -f /tmp/probe-finished /tmp/ppp-errors
-   ( R=$(pppoe-discovery -A $P -I $1 2>/tmp/ppp-errors | \
+   ( R=$(pppoe-discovery $P -I $1 2>/tmp/ppp-errors | \
grep AC | wc -l)
  echo $R > /tmp/probe-finished ) &
WAIT=0

I found that the '-A' parameter is used in the current git master
branch, so this should affect more recent versions also.

2) In the bullseye installer, running ppp-udeb breaks with error messages for
missing libraries: libsystemd0, liblzma5 and libz4-1. I have
copied the entries for that libraries out of
'/dists/bullseye/main/debian-installer/binary-amd64/Packages.gz'
into
'/dists/bullseye/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz',
which works fine for me, but I think there is a more elegant way
to do that. (But I'm not familiar to that. I also think that these libraries
are not needed to establish a PPPoE-connection.)

With this two fixes I got it working on my Bullseye USB Installer stick and I
have tested on BIOS and UEFI Virtual and Physical machines, but I don't know a
better way to commit that to the Debian project.

#xen-devel is the IRC Xen channel. I just pinged them, I'll wait.
Depending on their answers, I'll post on the xen-devel mailing list.

Meanwhile, you may try to force the domU vif names with a letter

The sorting with letters doesn't work out as renaming the interface is a
secondary step.

...
[53408.899507] vif vif-5-0 sort-a: renamed from vif5.0

Yeah I just tried with vifnames, no more luck, sorry.
Running "xenstore-ls /local/domain/DOMU_ID/device/vif" shows that vif10+
are sorted before vif10- (ie. vif1, vif10, vif11, vif2, ...).

Our current workaround is to edit the interface names in the domUs
config to match the wrong sorting. And be extra careful that the domUs
MACs match the ones we expect on that network.

Via udev (MAC matching) or /etc/network/interfaces ?
I ask because it may help others, while this gets resolved.

Bug#1042880: systemd: service with PrivateNetwork=yes fails to start inside a lxc container

2023-08-02 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: systemd
Version: 254-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: l...@packages.debian.org

The PrivateNetwork=yes option hardens services by putting them in a private
network namespace.

systemd.exec(5) says:
> Note that the implementation of this setting might be impossible (for
> example if network namespaces are not available), and the unit should be
> written in a way that does not solely rely on this setting for security.

which makes me think that the intended behaviour of this option is: if
possible, put the service in a private network namespace, but if that's
not possible, then launch it anyway.

However, in a lxc container, this isn't working for me, causing
autopkgtest failure for policykit-1 (>= 123) (which I'm going to work
around by removing the PrivateNetwork=yes option for now). This is
important because ci.debian.net can currently only test packages in an
lxc container.

Is there any particular reason this needs to be an option, rather than

* Fix colors of ignored files in `dropbox filestatus`.
* Remove the long-broken `dropbox puburl` command.
* Don't print a ticker to stderr if it's not a tty.

Bug#1041202: flang-16: flang fails to compile: missing libraries

2023-08-02 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna

I uploaded a partial fix, now you can do it with
flang-new-16 hello.f90 -o hello -L /usr/lib/llvm-16/lib/

We need probably newer llvm-defaults to symlink them into a more common
directory to avoid -L switch.

Bug#1042466: AttributeError: module 'eventlet.green.select' has no attribute 'epoll'

Here's a temporary workaround until the issue is fixed.

Either set the environment variable EVENTLET_NO_GREENDNS to "yes" before
launching applications that import eventlet, or put the following Python
code before loading the module:

import os
os.environ['EVENTLET_NO_GREENDNS'] = 'yes'

Bug#1042875: cron-apt: man cron-apt mentions a configuration example file without any configuration

2023-08-02 Thread Carles Pina i Estany
Package: cron-apt
Version: 0.13.0+nmu1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

I've tested this in cron-apt versions 0.13.0.1 (Bookworm) and
0.13.0+nmu1 (Bullseye).

I was trying to change some configuration and did: man cron-apt

It says (under "CONFIGURATION"):
"""
The variables that you can set in /etc/cron-apt/config is documented
in the configuration example in /usr/share/doc/cron-apt/examples/config
"""

The file /usr/share/doc/cron-apt/examples/config does not contain any
example but two lines:
"""
# Configuration for cron-apt. For further information about the possible
# configuration settings see /usr/share/doc/cron-apt/README.gz.
"""

I would suggest that the "man" should mention
/usr/share/doc/cron-apt/README.gz straight away.

Also, I think that reads better ".../etc/cron-apt/config are documented in
the..." (change is to are).

Thanks for cron-apt! I use it in quite a few systems for a long time and
I'm really happy with it.

Thank very much!

There was an encoding problem with quoting the error message, so I
enclosed it in the attachment.
