Bug#1069640: lintian still links to lintian.debian.org but it is gone

2024-04-22 Thread Adam Baxter
Package: lintian
Version: 2.117.0
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: deb...@voltagex.org

Dear Maintainer,
This is related to #1053710 (but apparently Affects: isn't the right tag here?
There should be a Related: tag IMO)

   * What led up to the situation?

Lintian produces messages like "E: mypackage: no-copyright-file" where
no-copyright-file is a link to
https://lintian.debian.org/tags/no-copyright-file.
lintian.debian.org is gone as of 2023 so these URLs should be changed.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Being able to click the hyperlink (TIL OSC8) and find out what the warning /
note means

Bug#1068895: iwlwifi: Scanning twice on AX210 card causes crash

2024-04-12 Thread Adam Baxter
Package: src:linux
Version: 6.1.76-1
Severity: important
X-Debbugs-Cc: deb...@voltagex.org

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Running iwlist scanning twice causes this crash - first invocation works,
second time I get "wlp1s0Interface doesn't support scanning : Input/output
error"
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Removing the module and modprobing it again restores the functionality - for
one scan only.
This machine has Ethernet connected so it's not a huge issue
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Some kind of panic
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Scanning twice to work fine.

Bug#1066021: pbuilder: debconf crashes while configuring pbuilder in debian:12.5 docker container

2024-03-10 Thread Adam Baxter
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.231
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: deb...@voltagex.org

Dear Maintainer,

I'm not sure if this should be filed against debconf or pbuilder or both (does
the Package line support multiple packages?)
It was also not clear how to report bugs against the official Debian Docker
image

A Dockerfile with the following:
FROM debian:12.5
RUN apt update && apt install --no-install-recommends -y pbuilder

will loop the following:
#5 3.737 Setting up pbuilder (0.231) ...
#5 3.774 debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog
#5 3.774 debconf: (TERM is not set, so the dialog frontend is not usable.)

#5 3.790
#5 3.790 Here is a valid mirror example: http://deb.debian.org/debian

I believe this is due to deb822 format sources lists being used in the container

If I change the Dockerfile to read

FROM debian:12.5
RUN echo "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib" >
/etc/apt/sources.list && rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.sources
RUN apt update && apt install --no-install-recommends -y pbuilder

Then the package installs correctly

Bug#1051079: apt: When failing to parse .sources files, give more information in error messages

2023-09-02 Thread Adam Baxter
Package: apt
Version: 2.6.1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: deb...@voltagex.org

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?

I've made some kind of mistake in a deb822 .sources file. apt or some component
of it can't parse the file and errors out
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Tried to write my own deb822 format file instead of just using sources.list and
solving this hours ago :)

   * What was the outcome of this action?

$ apt update
E: Unable to parse package file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/grafana.sources (1)
E: The list of sources could not be read.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Either:
* Skipping the "bad" file and emitting a warning OR
* A precise error message - what is wrong at what line and character.

Note this also broke reportbug itself, see #1051077

You can see the errors if you stop the service and run sudo
/usr/sbin/hv_kvp_daemon -n

sh: 1: /usr/libexec/hypervkvpd/hv_get_dns_info: not found
sh: 1: /usr/libexec/hypervkvpd/hv_get_dhcp_info: not found

However, Hyper-V still sees the guest IP address information while the daemon
is running so I'm not sure what the actual impact of this is.

Package: hyperv-daemons

Bug#1034750:

2023-04-23 Thread Adam Baxter
I know this is the wrong way to do it, but d-i pkgsel/run_tasksel boolean false
in my preseed.cfg was the easiest way for me to fix it.

Just the d-i netcfg/choose_interface select auto problem to go now.

This is possibly the wrong thread for it, IMO there needs to be a simple way to
copy the SSH key/s provided by d-i network-console/authorized_keys_url to
any/all created user accounts during installation, especially if I have d-i
passwd/root-login boolean false set.

No, but installing the non-free nvidia-driver did. It's a pity, as I don't need

rufus breaks these and I missed it on https://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstall.

Thanks anyway, I guess.

Bug#1000743: installation-reports: bootx64.efi didn't seem to get installed and no UEFI boot entry was created for Debian

2021-11-28 Thread Adam Baxter
> The installation manual provides all this information.
OK, this is fair, I wasn't thinking about the manual as I've installed Debian
quite a few times and know how the installation goes.

Perhaps the text could include a reminder to check the manual for more info on
firmware loading, or even a QR code to take me to the correct place?

Perhaps the prompt should say "We can download the firmware automatically if
you are able to use an alternative connection, such as mobile tethering",
although I wonder how this would work for non-free firmware.

But Debian was looking for these files at /media/cdrom - would the installation
USB be re-mounted at this location?

Once the installer had finished and prompted me to reboot, the system came back

some investigation revealed there was no UEFI boot entry for Debian.

Shouldn't there normally be EFI/boot/bootx64.efi?

Additional issues:
This laptop has an upgraded AX201 wifi card - the installer detected that I
needed non-free firmware and I was able
to load it from USB successfully. The message could be improved a bit with
better instructions of where to
get the firmware and what structure is needed on the external drive.

I ended up grabbing
https://saimei.ftp.acc.umu.se/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/firmware/testing/20211122/firmware.zip
and extracting the firmware files from firmware-iwlwifi_20210818-1_all.deb
Would the installer have coped if I'd just dropped that single deb file?

Maybe it'd be worth having an option to allow a user to tether a mobile phone
via USB to grab the firmware online.

Also, a cdrom: entry was added to sources.list even though I installed from USB.

Please make sure that any installation logs that you think would
be useful are attached to this report. Please compress large
files using gzip.

I have the logs, but I am using the Debian provided SMTP server and reportbug
currently has me in nano,
so I'm not sure how to do this.

Bug#916741: O: distcc -- simple distributed compiler client and server

2018-12-17 Thread Adam Baxter
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The maintainer has indicated they are no longer maintaining this. I will
attempt to forward an email chain about this soon.

The package description is:
distcc is a program to distribute compilation of C or C++ code across
several machines on a network. distcc should always generate the same
results as a local compile, is simple to install and use, and is often
significantly faster than a local compile. distcc does not require all
machines to share a filesystem, have synchronized clocks, or to have
the same libraries or header files installed.

debian/watch to the correct upstream.

Bug#835089: Vcs-Browser in debian/control is incorrect

2016-08-22 Thread Adam Baxter
Package: src:nuget
Version: 2.8.7+md510+dhx1-1
Severity: minor

Vcs-Browser is currently
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cli-libs/packages/nuget.git which redirects to
a 404 at
https://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-cli-libs/packages/nuget.git

The correct Vcs-Browser URL seems to be
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-cli-apps/packages/nuget.git/, although
I have no idea if Vcs-Git also needs to be updated

I agree. If you look at http://www.dotnetfoundation.org/netcore, there
are 3 distinct packages mentioned.

FWIW - think about something like dotnet-corefx (although it could
also be libdotnet), dotnet-coreclr and dotnet-cli. Someone should ask
upstream at this point as they have already created unofficial
packages for some projects.

Hopping on this bug as it is probably required for #834756 (I have no
idea how to mark bugs as related).

Bug#806487: This was fixed in an update to binutils 2.26

2016-04-08 Thread Adam Baxter
Upstream bugs https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=19538 and
https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=19615

This was fixed in Debian somewhere between binutils-2.26-3 (which is
affected) and -8 (which works fine).

This can probably be closed or assigned to the binutils package.

2016-02-20 Thread Adam Baxter
This still happens with git-buildpackage 0.7.2 and pbuilder 0.223.

Run sudo strace -e mkdir -ff git-pbuilder create and you should see
that it can't create /var/cache/pbuilder/base.cow (or whatever .cow if
you've passed DIST and ARCH). It's a case of bad error messages and no
option to do --force or --overwrite.

Bug#736055: Any updates?

2014-05-04 Thread Adam Baxter
Re-sending to the tracker, sorry.

Ask,

Basically I have to provide a watch file to grab the most recent file
from the download page[1], but being quite unfamiliar with watch files
and not so well versed in packaging in general, I haven't gotten
around to it. If you can help with this or would like to take over,
 that would be quite splendid.

The PTS page contains an alert for
http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/sepwatch/trunk/watchfiles/python-ase_3.6.0.2515-1.1.watch?view=markup-
save the text in that as debian/watch inside the package source and it
should be fine

There is one issue which I should mention: The tarball and the svn
export do not contain the exact same files - some things like the
documentation are present in svn but missing from the tarball. I
guess the debian package should contain the same files as the tarball
(and not the svn repository), but the existing package in corresponds
to a checkout. This might be worth changing for the next release.

I'm not sure about this, maybe raise a separate bug for it?

Bug#737572: libqmi-glib-dev: Please package upstream version 1.8.0

2014-02-04 Thread Adam Baxter
Hey Marius,
From my point of view it should conflict - I wasn't aware that it was
used in things other than modemmanager, but that makes sense. I am
hoping to help get a newer version of modemmanager into Debian
eventually.

--Adam

On 4 February 2014 20:21, Marius Kotsbak mar...@kotsbak.com wrote:
 Hi

It is actually almost ready in the git repo I have pushed.

The remaining thing is to find out how to handle the qmi-proxy binary, which
 is used by the lib.

As only one can be running at the same time, I am unsure how we should
handle multiarch and different major ABI versions. Either conflict (like
modemmanager), so that only one can be installed at the same time, or let it
be up to the user to avoid multiple versions running. And should it be in a
 separate package. Opinions?

Bug#616689: Reproduced on a preseeded Jessie install

2013-07-30 Thread Adam Baxter
I just accidentally reproduced this while installing Jessie with a preseed
that did not include lvm2 - shouldn't it be part of the base install if LVM
is chosen in guided partitioning?

Debian GNU/Linux testing Jessie - Official Snapshot amd64 NETINST
Binary-1 20130729-21:37 (20130729) was used as a base.

Bug#702257:

2013-07-29 Thread Adam Baxter
This seems to also be an issue when a CD is used to kick off a preseed -
i.e. Automated install from the boot menu.
Depending on the preseed commands used, you'll end up with a cdrom: line in
sources.list and a prompt in tty4 to insert a CD.
You can't answer that prompt, so the install hangs.

Hi,
I've temporarily removed the changelog from this patch so it'll apply
cleanly to git head.

I'm not sure how the changelog is supposed to be handled when merge
conflicts occur.
