Bug#758475: rubygems-integration: Warnings in all programs

2014-08-17 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Package: rubygems-integration
Version: 1.1
Severity: minor

Hi.

With the version of rubygems-integrations on Wheezy, even the simplest hello
world program runs with warnings. This might seem harmless for production
programs, but is quite inconvenient when you are developing, since the
warnings are used, for example, for syntax checking programs that run on your
code. The warnings coming from rubygems-integration are very inconvenient.

I don't know if it is possible to override the path some other way (the $:
variable maybe?), but I've had to resort to get gems from outside the Debian
packaging.

Thank you.

Bug#617422: Offer to help

2011-08-16 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Hi.

I would love to see the new version of figlet in Debian. Is there anything that
I could do? My packaging knowledge maybe is too dated, but I would love to
help. Or is a legal issue with respect the legal change?

Thank you.

Bug#637253: cron-deja-vu: Description does not conform to policy

2011-08-09 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: cron-deja-vu
Severity: minor

This package has both a short and long description that don't conform to
policy.

Remeber that both the short and the long description are descriptions on their
own, and neither is a continuation of the other or the name of the program.

Bug#627917: kdm: Default KDM config file doesn't halt

2011-05-25 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.6.2-2
Severity: important

Hi.

The default configuration file for KDM contains the following:

[Shutdown]
# The command (subject to word splitting) to run to halt the system.
# Default is /sbin/shutdown -p now
#HaltCmd=
# The command (subject to word splitting) to run to reboot the system.
# Default is /sbin/shutdown -r now
#RebootCmd=

However, this doesn't properly shutdown. According to shutdown manpage, the
proper switch should be -P, not -p. I think that former default values were:

[Shutdown]
BootManager=None
HaltCmd=/sbin/halt
RebootCmd=/sbin/reboot

I can't confirm, but this was in my kdmrc.dpkg-old, and I think I had the
default. Changing to use halt and reboot worked for me, but I don't know if is
a problem in shutdown instead (sorry if it's the case).

Thank you.

Bug#613692: More info: doesn't happen on all servers

2011-02-18 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Hi.

One more thing that I've noticed: this doesn't happen in all servers. I
suppose it's due to different servers using different modes and additions. For
example, from the list of official maps, this happens in the GOD|rockets
server, but it doesn't happen at all in the ROFL all rockets one.

Let me known if I can be of any help trying to find more details about which
servers work or not. For know, the only difference that I can see, is that the
server that gives problems uses proskins.pk3 and maybe other pk3 files that
modify a bit the game. However, this problem did not exist in 0.8.5-5.

Bug#613692: openarena: Freezes when a new map is loaded

2011-02-16 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: openarena
Version: 0.8.5-7
Severity: important

Hi.

I've upgraded from 0.8.5-5, and I've seen some small glitches here or there,
but I've found one important issue. When you are playing on a (remote) server,
when a match is won, and a new map is loaded, the game hangs. I started it from
a console, and I think is due to the game entering in an infinite loop, because
it writes to the output again and again the same text:

--
1383 files in pk3 files
- FS_Startup -
Current search path:
/home/alex/.openarena/CTF/zz-proskins2.pk3 (8 files)
/home/alex/.openarena/CTF/z-gpl-q3a2oa-textures.pk3 (1375 files)
/home/alex/.openarena/CTF
/usr/lib/games/openarena/CTF
/home/alex/.openarena/0.5
/usr/lib/games/openarena/0.5

This is written repeatedly on the console, and the game is irresponsible, and
has to be killed to recover the control of mouse and keyboard.

It happens only after you've played a match and the new map is loaded, or if
you connect to a server where the match in place is in a map that you don't
have (in that case, the map is downloaded OK, but then the new map is tryed to
be loaded and the game freezes like the other case).

I've tryied, just in case, to start OpenArena removing almost all the content
on ~/.openarena, but still.

Thank you.

Bug#597900: qt4-x11: Some Recommends/Suggests needed for QML

2010-09-23 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: qt4-x11
Version: Some Recommends or Suggests missing for declarative stuff
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

The packages qt4-qmlviewer, libqt4-declarative-{folderlistmodel, gestures,
particles} have no reverse dependencies, so if you start playing with Qt
Creator and trying to run the declarative qt4-demos, you have to install some
packages manually or some stuff doesn't work.

I would suggest making qt4-qmlviewer a recommendation or suggestion of
qtcreator and qt4-demos, and also making libqt4-declarative-* recommendation or
suggestion of libqt4-declarative.

Thanks.

Bug#538719: psi-plus: Extended description is not properly formatted

2009-07-26 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: psi-plus
Severity: minor

Hi.

The extended description is not properly formatted. It may look ok with
apt-cache (that displays it literally), but it does not with tools that
properly format the description (like aptitude). See Policy 5.6.13:

file:///usr/share/doc/debian-policy/policy.html/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-Description

Thanks.

Bug#512186: subdownloader: Long description uses short description

2009-01-18 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: subdownloader
Version: 2.0.9.2-1

Quoting from Debian Policy, section 3.4.2:

Do not try to continue the single line synopsis into the extended description.
This will not work correctly when the full description is displayed, and makes

The extended description makes no sense without the introductory line:

video files (DIVX, MPEG, AVI, etc.) and DVDs using fast hashing.

This package contains the GUI frontend, common files and a cli interface.

Bug#497642: aptitude: Allow user to add a note (a small text) to individual packages

2008-09-03 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.8-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

I want to suggest the following feature to aptitude:

Allow one user to add a small string of text (one line should suffice)
as a note to each package. Optionally, it would be great to be able to
use the search system to look for packages that match a certain string
in its note field.

The example use cases are the following:

* Alice is a power user who from to time wants to compile her favourite
desktop environment when still is in beta stage. For that, she needs to
install some development packages that normally she doesn't have
installed. When she upgrades the whole system, she sees some packages
that look unfamiliar to her, and doesn't remember why she installed
them. She wants to add a note to herself like installed to compile
FooBar 2000.

* Bob and Charlie share a machine that acts as their email and web
server. They install from to time to time a package to do some tests, or
to run some web application. Bob installs MediaWiki, and the math plugin
requires TeX. Since TeX is not a common package for a server, adds a
note to Charlie stating Required for MediaWiki's math plugin, don't
remove.

This wish is a bit related to the old #149311, but I think that my
suggestion is a bit simpler to implement, without using tasks (another
line in pkgstates should be enough, I think).

Thanks a lot in advance.

That's very helpful, thanks a lot. Now that you are at it, it will be great if
you can add to the description if there is any other difference in features

Sorry if I sound so nitpicker, but I think that a long, detailed description
helps a lot when you are in doubt about what a package does, and which one
you should choose.

Bug#477197: In favor of asciitilde too

2008-04-22 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Hello.

I was very disappointed when I found that a character that is so common in
UNIX and in some URLs, now has to be typed so inconveniently. There is no
point at all in having a key to compose 'ã', etc., because those characters
don't appear in spanish or catalan (I don't know about galician or basque,
but I think it's the same). According to the spanish ortography, 'Ñ' is a
letter, not a composed character, and as such, it has its own key in spanish
keyboards.

Users who want to type in different languages, should use different keymaps,

Greetings.

Bug#439654: RM: konserve -- ROM; unmantained

2007-08-26 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi.

I want to request the removal of konserve from the archive. The package
is not maintained upstream, and the latest fixes commited in the
upstream VCS, are the ones that I did, and that are included in the
Debian package.

If somebody is interested in reviving this package, bear in mind that to
fix some bugs, some parts need serious rewriting (use KDE facilities
like KSystemTray and KMainWindow), and that with KDE 4 in the horizon,
porting will be needed too. So a rewrite from scratch is a better idea.

Thanks.

2007-08-26 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi.

I want to request the removal of kxmleditor. It's developers didn't
release any stable version in a very long time, and they stated that
were working in a 2.0 version that uses Xerces, but now it seems that
the project is sleeping till they have more time.

If somebody is interested in the package, bear in mind that the upstream
CVS is this unfinised version, which will also need KDE 4 porting, so a
lot of work will be needed to create a stable version. Also note that
the patches included in the Debian package, were sent to the developers,
but no one replied about them.

Thanks.

Bug#426125: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#426125: ttf-dejavu: Can't select condensed font

2007-05-28 Thread Alejandro Exojo

Have you tried any GTK apps? On my unstable system, I see the same
thing in OpenOffice, but in GTK apps (tested in gedit and leafpad) I can
choose the condensed font. In the GTK font selection window, there is
no DejaVu Sans Condensed family, only DejaVu Sans family, but in
this family you can choose styles from Book, Condensed, Bold,
Condensed Bold, etc. Choosing Condensed style gives the correct
 font.

I don't use KDE so can't test the Qt/KDE part.

Well, I installed gedit, and as you said, I can select DejaVu Sans family and
the Condensed style.

Looking at the result of fc-list 'DejaVu Sans Condensed', I have

 DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed Oblique,Oblique
 DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed Bold Oblique,Bold Oblique
 DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed,Book
 DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed Bold,Bold

The fc-list you posted, gives me the same results.

Note that each font has two names, DajaVu Sans and DejaVu Sans
Condensed. Maybe KDE and OO.o got confused and only used the first
 name?

I have no idea how fontconfig works, but that makes sense. Invoking fc-list
with no parameters, in my system gives a list where DejaVu are the only ones
with two names.

So, what should I do? Should I report a problem (o reassign this bug) to
KDE/OOo or to fontconfig?

Thanks again.

2007-05-26 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: ttf-dejavu
Version: 2.17-1
Severity: normal

Hi.

Since versions newer than 2.8-1, I can't select DejaVu Condensed.

I had configured this font in KDE's control center to show in some
places, and it still works where it's configured, but if I change it,
it's impossible to select it back (it's also impossible to choose it for
a new place). I tried to choose it also in OpenOffice.org, but I couldn't.

I tried selecting it directly in 'font' and selecting DejaVu Sans and
condensed under 'typeface', 'style', or whatever it's called in that
program.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if I missed something, but I tried very
hard to configure any application, and my only result is manually
editing configuration files, because fc-match 'dejavu sans condensed'
gives an apparently valid result.

Greetings, Alex.

Bug#423149: kxmleditor handles entity references incorrectly

thanks

El Jueves, 10 de Mayo de 2007, YANG Shouxun escribió:
 Package: kxmleditor
 Version: 1.1.4-3 and 1.1.4-3.1
 Severity: Grave

kxmleditor handles an XML file that contains entity references incorrectly.
For instance, ecompressedi; becomes compressedi;e. All entity
references are collected and placed to the front of the text.

That renders kxmleditor unusable with those XML files.

Worse, it leads to data loss if an unknowing user opens the file and then
saves it. If the XML file contains a lot of such entity references, that's
 very bad.

Hi.

This bug is upstream, so you maybe want to report it upstream. However, I
advise you that the development of kxmleditor 1.x stopped a lot of time ago,
and the author is focused in 2.x, which is also in stand-by.

Bug#358651: Default menu.lst is world-readable (maybe a security problem)

Hi.

As reported, the default permissions of menu.lst, allow any user to see the

you can consider changing its default permissions.

I don't know if this problem it's relevant enough to rise the attention of the
security team, because I don't know if it really is a security problem, or
just a wish, but it would be great if at least you, as maintainers, give your

doesn't seems that nobody cares about the bug report. :-)

Bug#398757: konserve: fails to make backups

2006-11-15 Thread Alejandro Exojo
package konserve
tags 398757 unreproducible
severity 398757 normal
thanks

 Steps to reproduce:
 - start the app from the menu from kde
 - create a backup task of a directory (I chose ~/tmp/_eraseme just to
test the app) via the wizard; select an existing directory (or
create a new one) as the backup URL
 - start a backup task by hand via the systray icon/backup task_name

After a while there should be two error messages one saying the backup
failed and the second complaing about the existing directory.

 - change the backup URL to an existing file (or a non-existing one) in
the aforementioned directory and force backup creation now like in the
   previous step

I'm very sorry Eddy, but I can't reproduce at all your bug. I have konserve
doing backups just as you say, in a directory, and it works for me (and I
suppose that it also works for the 3 o 4 people that uploaded the package
this years). I've also created a backup profile following all your steps, and
works here.

Can you please provide more info? Do you have free space in your hard disk? Do
you have read permissions in the directory that you chose as origin? Do you
have write permissions in the destination directory?

Thanks.

PS: Maybe you can also try to reinstall the package, or run debsums against
it.

Bug#388437: reportbug: Doesn't fully respect $EDITOR

2006-09-20 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: reportbug
Version: 3.29.5
Severity: normal

Hi.

If someone installs vim (and please note that I said vim, not nvi
or other vi clone), it's very likely that it really wants to use it,
specially in single user machines. But if someone sets the EDITOR
environment variable to vim, it's almost 100% sure that this person
wants it as editor.

I've read the other bug reports and the manpage, and I agree with you
that maybe in a light installation of Debian, which IIRC, installs nvi
and nano by default, it's not a good idea to have nvi with more
priority than other editors. But if the user has customised the
installation setting EDITOR, and installing vim, its pretty annoying
forcing that user to either set a flag, a mode of operation, or adding
another configuration file to the system. It may not be if you use only
a computer, but certainly it is if you use 3 or 4, or you set up new
systems frequently.

So, my point is: if the user sets EDITOR, respect it and don't ask to
change alternatives, because it doesn't make any sense. Actually, nano
has more priority than vim.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Oh, and, in my very humble opinion, the editor question at start,
may be a good workaround for a vi clone having a high priority, but it
should be a temporal solution while the maintainers of that package fix
this.

doesn't resolves it. If I do a /etc/init.d/pdnsd restart, then it

Bug#376765: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg issues strange warning about /etc/X11/X

2006-08-14 Thread Alejandro Exojo
I have seen the same after a new installation recently and was very
 confused by this same message:
 - I did not change the config manually at all, so the error was false
and the configuration should have been updated

Hi.

I'm really confused by this message too. I'm looking at the code, and, at
least, I think I've found some lines that are not correct.

I don't fully understand the purpose of lines 1631 to 1637 of
xserver-xorg.postinst (in version 1:7.0.23), and it seems I'm not the only
one (see the comment why, why, why, why, why, why, why are we md5suming
this? -daniels) but there are some obvious errors: the md5sums, are
calculated not on the file, but on the _name_ of the file. See the attached
patch.

However, someone with more knowledge of X should check why this md5sum is
calculed. First, is checked if the symlink points to the server in the old
paths, and if it's true, is migrated, _and_ again is checked that the md5sum
of the symlink matches the old files. This would never be true, because the
symlink has been moved in the previous lines, isn't it?

 - what does /etc/X11/X have to do with it anyway, after all I want to
   update /etc/X11/xorg.conf when I reconfigure, not /etc/X11/X

I don't know if it's related or not (I suppose that not), but I'm having this
problem too. I can't configure X automatically with dpkg-reconfire
xserver-xorg, as expected. Maybe it's related to #380061.

I would tend to assume this is because the node is created on

 select it.

Turning off Create items on demand in the settings, I find I can
 search as normal.

As you say, this doesn't happens if you uncheck the option, so I think that
this behaviour is on purpose, because it will save memory.

If you still think is a bug, you can fill a bug report upstream (or I will do
it):

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=30704atid=400968

However, latest upstream stable version was on December 2004, so I'm not very

recent commits in the repository, but I think the developers are more worried
about version 2.0.

I will ping him again now, and see if he can sponsor me soon, and if he says

The descriptions of the packages in ufsparse, are bad formatted

Package: ktouch

Hi.

I'm unable to enter any accented vowel in KTouch. It seems that is
ignoring the acute key (because, if paused, if you press any key, the

It seems that other user is having the same trouble, but with different
result, because the accent is printed, but not combined with the vowel.
This same user, also states that ktouch works OK in Kubuntu, so I think
it might be Debian specific. He provided some screenshots with more

Bug#346391: kimdaba: Too heavy recommendation on kdegraphics

Package: kimdaba
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

Kimdaba recommends kdegraphics, and kdegraphics depends on lots of
applications that have no relation with kimdaba. Policy says that
recommendations declare a strong, but not absolute, dependency, so I
don't see why an image manager will have any relation with kpdf, kdvi,
kpovmodeler, etc.

Please, recommend only meaningful packages. kdegraphics-kfile-plugins
makes sense, because it's used to extract EXIF information from images
(and maybe kamera), but not the whole kdegraphics.

Thanks.

kxmleditor is currently uninstallable in unstable because it still
depends on the kdelibs4 from before the kde/c++ transition.

It needs to be rebuilt against the transitioned library.

Thanks Ivan. I'm aware of this, but since I'm not a Debian Developer, a bit of
time will be needed while my sponsor checks and uploads the package.

If any Debian Developer wants to NMU this package, please, contact with me
first, so we can upload a package with other bugs fixed.

If any user is affected by this bug, please contact with me, and I will upload
a fixed package to a temporary repository, while the package is uploaded to
Debian.

Greetings.

Can you provide a simple way of reproducing the bug? I mean, a step by step
way of reproducing the problem you have.

I've successfully created an RSS file with namespaces in it, and edited
another one, too.

I mean, the dialog for introducing a new element, haves 3 fileds, and the
first two are for namespaces. Are you introducing the data by hand?

Bug#324599: checkbashisms: function check is not accurate

2005-08-22 Thread Alejandro Exojo Piqueras
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.9.5
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi.

The check for 'function' in checkbashisms, is not completely accurate.
The regexp for this bashism is 'function \w+\(\s*\)', but according to
the bash reference manual (page 14 in the Debian version), If the
function reserverd word is supplied, the parentheses are optional.

So this script is a false negative, but it isn't portable:

---8--
#! /bin/sh

function foo
{
bar
}
---8--

I've attached a patch with a different regexp that reports the presence
of function, even without parentheses. I hope it doesn't reports false
positives.

Thanks.

I have not heard anything about this bug for over two months.

The original report was about a problem with the IMAP account. I never had a
problem with this kind of account, but I suppose is related to the
synchronous-filtering problem. Getting a faster client / server, bigger
bandwith, and having patience while the GUI seems frozen, helps.

My recommendation: Switch to disconnected IMAP, because is the recommended
kind of account for IMAP, and the filtering works better.

And no, saying in the bugreport 'The Disconnected IMAP account type does not
work AT ALL for me', doesn't help. :) Just ask in debian-kde or kdepim-users
if you have problems setting up the account, but I can promise you that it
works.

Bug#317962: kde: inconsistent keyboard shortcuts for changing tabs

2005-07-13 Thread Alejandro Exojo
El Martes, 12 de Julio de 2005 17:50, Jukka Suomela escribió:
 - Konqueror (tabs):

 ctrl + , / . or
 ctrl + [ / ].

This is the real default shortcut for changing tab, and its alternative.

 - Konsole (sessions):

 shift + left/right.

In konsole, it can't be ctrl+. to change to the next session, because this key
should be sent to the shell, and not captured by the GUI.

 - Kopete (multiple chats in the same window), Kate (open files), Kile
   (open files):

 alt + left/right.

I don't know for kopete, but for kate, kdevelop, etc, is not next tab, but
next document. Why? Because all of them use KMDI, which can show each
document in IDEAl mode (by default), tabbed windows, toplevel windows, etc.

Furthermore, these keyboard shortcuts seem to have different uses in
other applications: shift + left/right selects text in most editors
and such; alt + left/right is bound to back and forward actions in
Konqueror; ctrl + , / . expands and collapses threads in Kmail,
etc. Thus, using the wrong shortcuts in the wrong application may lead
 into annoying surprises.

Yes, shift+arrow is used to select text in all applications where there is a
text input field. In KMail, is not ctrl+., but just . to expand a thread.

I don't know if kopete is inconsistent or don't, because I use always separate
windows, and maybe they have a reason for changing this.

Bug#293453: xmlto: Fails to copy the finished work, it it's in directories

2005-02-03 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Package: xmlto
Version: 0.0.18-5
Severity: important

Hi.

Trying to convert an XML that outputs the HTML to directories, xmlto
fails to copy the finished work from the /tmp/xmlto.x working
directory, to the one was invoked.

For example, try to convert Dive into Python's sources:
http://diveintopython.org/download/diveintopython-xml-5.4.zip

After all is done, cp doesn't copies anything, because skips
directories:

Writing installing_python/windows.html for section(install.windows)
Writing installing_python/macosx.html for section(install.macosx)
Writing installing_python/macos9.html for section(install.macos9)
[... skipped ...]
cp: omitting directory `appendix'
cp: omitting directory `dynamic_functions'
[ etc. ]

I suppose a cp -r should do the trick, and be OK for the rest.

Feel free to lower the severity, but I considered this bug enough
important, because you can not tell xmlto not to clean the files in
/tmp, so all work is lost (unless you interrupt the process).

Thanks in advance.

If you can't, restore your KDE configuration files (mv .kde.backup .kde) and

I'm afraid I can't find anything from the strace. :-(

Bug#289773: lintian: desktop-file-in-wrong-dir ignores other standard directories

2005-01-10 Thread Alejandro Exojo
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.7
Severity: normal

Hi.

I saw that in 1.23.6, lintian closed the wish reported in #200171.
However, instead of checking that a desktop file is an obsolete
directory (/usr/share/applnk or /usr/share/gnome/apps), it checks that
it is not in /usr/share/applications.

This is incorrect, because, for example, KDE, has other standard
directories for servicemenus, components (KParts), icon sets, and others.
This files should _not_ be installed in /usr/share/applications, because
they are not intended to create a menu.

Note also, that some upstream developers, try to be both backwards and
forwards compatible:

http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/0.9/apc.html

So some (but not all) desktop files under the old directories are indeed
OK.

Thanks.
