Bug#758475: rubygems-integration: Warnings in all programs
Package: rubygems-integration Version: 1.1 Severity: minor Hi. With the version of rubygems-integrations on Wheezy, even the simplest hello world program runs with warnings. This might seem harmless for production programs, but is quite inconvenient when you are developing, since the warnings are used, for example, for syntax checking programs that run on your code. The warnings coming from rubygems-integration are very inconvenient. I don't know if it is possible to override the path some other way (the $: variable maybe?), but I've had to resort to get gems from outside the Debian packaging. Hi. I would love to see the new version of figlet in Debian. Is there anything that I could do? My packaging knowledge maybe is too dated, but I would love to help. Bug#627917: kdm: Default KDM config file doesn't halt
Package: kdm Version: 4:4.6.2-2 Severity: important Hi. The default configuration file for KDM contains the following: [Shutdown] # The command (subject to word splitting) to run to halt the system. # Default is /sbin/shutdown -p now #HaltCmd= # The command (subject to word splitting) to run to reboot the system. # Default is /sbin/shutdown -r now #RebootCmd= However, this doesn't properly shutdown. According to shutdown manpage, the proper switch should be -P, not -p. I think that former default values were: [Shutdown] BootManager=None HaltCmd=/sbin/halt RebootCmd=/sbin/reboot I can't confirm, but this was in my kdmrc.dpkg-old, and I think I had the default. Changing to use halt and reboot worked for me, but I don't know if is a problem in shutdown instead (sorry if it's the case). Bug#613692: More info: doesn't happen on all servers
Hi. One more thing that I've noticed: this doesn't happen in all servers. I suppose it's due to different servers using different modes and additions. For example, from the list of official maps, this happens in the GOD|rockets server, but it doesn't happen at all in the ROFL all rockets one. Let me known if I can be of any help trying to find more details about which servers work or not. For know, the only difference that I can see, is that the server that gives problems uses proskins.pk3 and maybe other pk3 files that modify a bit the game. However, this problem did not exist in 0.8.5-5. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) | GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://barnacity.net/ | http://disperso.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#613692: openarena: Freezes when a new map is loaded
Package: openarena Version: 0.8.5-7 Severity: important Hi. I've upgraded from 0.8.5-5, and I've seen some small glitches here or there, but I've found one important issue. When you are playing on a (remote) server, when a match is won, and a new map is loaded, the game hangs. I started it from a console, and I think is due to the game entering in an infinite loop, because it writes to the output again and again the same text: -- 1383 files in pk3 files - FS_Startup - Current search path: /home/alex/.openarena/CTF/zz-proskins2.pk3 (8 files) /home/alex/.openarena/CTF/z-gpl-q3a2oa-textures.pk3 (1375 files) /home/alex/.openarena/CTF /usr/lib/games/openarena/CTF /home/alex/.openarena/0.5 /usr/lib/games/openarena/0.5 This is written repeatedly on the console, and the game is irresponsible, and has to be killed to recover the control of mouse and keyboard. It happens only after you've played a match and the new map is loaded, or if you connect to a server where the match in place is in a map that you don't have (in that case, the map is downloaded OK, but then the new map is tryed to be loaded and the game freezes like the other case). Bug#497642: aptitude: Allow user to add a note (a small text) to individual packages
Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.11.8-1 Severity: wishlist Hi. I want to suggest the following feature to aptitude: Allow one user to add a small string of text (one line should suffice) as a note to each package. Optionally, it would be great to be able to use the search system to look for packages that match a certain string in its note field. The example use cases are the following: * Alice is a power user who from to time wants to compile her favourite desktop environment when still is in beta stage. For that, she needs to install some development packages that normally she doesn't have installed. When she upgrades the whole system, she sees some packages that look unfamiliar to her, and doesn't remember why she installed them. She wants to add a note to herself like installed to compile FooBar 2000. * Bob and Charlie share a machine that acts as their email and web server. They install from to time to time a package to do some tests, or to run some web application. Bob installs MediaWiki, and the math plugin requires TeX. Since TeX is not a common package for a server, adds a note to Charlie stating Required for MediaWiki's math plugin, don't remove. This wish is a bit related to the old #149311, but I think that my suggestion is a bit simpler to implement, without using tasks (another line in pkgstates should be enough, I think). Bug#477197: In favor of asciitilde too
Hello. I was very disappointed when I found that a character that is so common in UNIX and in some URLs, now has to be typed so inconveniently. There is no point at all in having a key to compose 'ã', etc., because those characters don't appear in spanish or catalan (I don't know about galician or basque, but I think it's the same). According to the spanish ortography, 'Ñ' is a letter, not a composed character, and as such, it has its own key in spanish keyboards. Users who want to type in different languages, should use different keymaps, IMVHO. Greetings. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) - GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://barnacity.net/ - Jabber ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Hi. I want to request the removal of konserve from the archive. The package is not maintained upstream, and the latest fixes commited in the upstream VCS, are the ones that I did, and that are included in the Debian package. If somebody is interested in reviving this package, bear in mind that to fix some bugs, some parts need serious rewriting (use KDE facilities like KSystemTray and KMainWindow), and that with KDE 4 in the horizon, porting will be needed too. It's developers didn't release any stable version in a very long time, and they stated that were working in a 2.0 version that uses Xerces, but now it seems that the project is sleeping till they have more time. I don't use KDE so can't test the Qt/KDE part. Well, I installed gedit, and as you said, I can select DejaVu Sans family and the Condensed style. Looking at the result of fc-list 'DejaVu Sans Condensed', I have DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed Oblique,Oblique DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed Bold Oblique,Bold Oblique DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed,Book DejaVu Sans,DejaVu Sans Condensed:style=Condensed Bold,Bold The fc-list you posted, gives me the same results. Note that each font has two names, DajaVu Sans and DejaVu Sans Condensed. Maybe KDE and OO.o got confused and only used the first name? I have no idea how fontconfig works, but that makes sense. Invoking fc-list with no parameters, in my system gives a list where DejaVu are the only ones with two names. So, what should I do? I had configured this font in KDE's control center to show in some places, and it still works where it's configured, but if I change it, it's impossible to select it back (it's also impossible to choose it for a new place). I tried to choose it also in OpenOffice.org, but I couldn't. I tried selecting it directly in 'font' and selecting DejaVu Sans and condensed under 'typeface', 'style', or whatever it's called in that program. Bug#388437: reportbug: Doesn't fully respect $EDITOR
Package: reportbug Version: 3.29.5 Severity: normal Hi. If someone installs vim (and please note that I said vim, not nvi or other vi clone), it's very likely that it really wants to use it, specially in single user machines. But if someone sets the EDITOR environment variable to vim, it's almost 100% sure that this person wants it as editor. I've read the other bug reports and the manpage, and I agree with you that maybe in a light installation of Debian, which IIRC, installs nvi and nano by default, it's not a good idea to have nvi with more priority than other editors. But if the user has customised the installation setting EDITOR, and installing vim, its pretty annoying forcing that user to either set a flag, a mode of operation, or adding another configuration file to the system. It may not be if you use only a computer, but certainly it is if you use 3 or 4, or you set up new systems frequently. So, my point is: if the user sets EDITOR, respect it and don't ask to change alternatives, because it doesn't make any sense. Actually, nano has more priority than vim. Thanks in advance. PS: Oh, and, in my very humble opinion, the editor question at start, may be a good workaround for a vi clone having a high priority, but it should be a temporal solution while the maintainers of that package fix this. -- Package-specific info: ** Environment settings: EDITOR=vim DEBEMAIL=[EMAIL PROTECTED] DEBFULLNAME=Alejandro Exojo Piqueras -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-amd64 Locale: LANG=es_ES.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages reportbug depends on: ii python2.4.3-11 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-central0.5.5 register and build utility for Pyt Versions of packages reportbug recommends: pn python-cjkcodecs | python-ico none (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I have seen the same after a new installation recently and was very confused by this same message: - I did not change the config manually at all, so the error was false and the configuration should have been updated Hi. I'm really confused by this message too. I'm looking at the code, and, at least, I think I've found some lines that are not correct. I don't fully understand the purpose of lines 1631 to 1637 of xserver-xorg.postinst (in version 1:7.0.23), and it seems I'm not the only one (see the comment why, why, why, why, why, why, why are we md5suming this? -daniels) but there are some obvious errors: the md5sums, are calculated not on the file, but on the _name_ of the file. See the attached patch. However, someone with more knowledge of X should check why this md5sum is calculed. First, is checked if the symlink points to the server in the old paths, and if it's true, is migrated, _and_ again is checked that the md5sum of the symlink matches the old files. This would never be true, because the symlink has been moved in the previous lines, isn't it? - what does /etc/X11/X have to do with it anyway, after all I want to update /etc/X11/xorg.conf when I reconfigure, not /etc/X11/X I don't know if it's related or not (I suppose that not), but I'm having this problem too. Do you think you will make an upload soon, moving to 4.x on all platforms (i.e. dropping the explicit build-depends on 3.4) or can we do an NMU? There is a fixed version of the package in: http://darkshines.net/debian/dists/unstable/kxmleditor/source If you look at the changes file, it was created and uploaded in December, the last time I had conversations with my sponsor, Guillem Jover. Bug#317962: kde: inconsistent keyboard shortcuts for changing tabs
El Martes, 12 de Julio de 2005 17:50, Jukka Suomela escribió: - Konqueror (tabs): ctrl + , / . or ctrl + [ / ]. This is the real default shortcut for changing tab, and its alternative. - Konsole (sessions): shift + left/right. In konsole, it can't be ctrl+. to change to the next session, because this key should be sent to the shell, and not captured by the GUI. - Kopete (multiple chats in the same window), Kate (open files), Kile (open files): alt + left/right. I don't know for kopete, but for kate, kdevelop, etc, is not next tab, but next document. Why? Because all of them use KMDI, which can show each document in IDEAl mode (by default), tabbed windows, toplevel windows, etc. Furthermore, these keyboard shortcuts seem to have different uses in other applications: shift + left/right selects text in most editors and such; alt + left/right is bound to back and forward actions in Konqueror; ctrl + , / . expands and collapses threads in Kmail, etc. Thus, using the wrong shortcuts in the wrong application may lead into annoying surprises. Yes, shift+arrow is used to select text in all applications where there is a text input field. In KMail, is not ctrl+., but just . to expand a thread. I don't know if kopete is inconsistent or don't, because I use always separate windows, and maybe they have a reason for changing this. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) - GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://darkshines.net/ - Jabber ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#278370: kdevelop/cvsservice crash gone away?
El Domingo, 6 de Febrero de 2005 23:49, Ben Burton escribió: Can I ask whether any of you can reproduce this bug with the current kdevelop3 / libcvsservice0 in debian? If not I'm tempted to close both reports, though it would have been nice to know what exactly was causing the crashes. I'm afraid I was one of the reporters in these bugs. For me, the problem vanished after the next libcvsservice upgrade. I'm sorry that I forgot to close the bug, or at least, to mention it in the BTS. :-/ -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) - GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://darkshines.net/ - Jabber ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#293453: xmlto: Fails to copy the finished work, it it's in directories
Package: xmlto Version: 0.0.18-5 Severity: important Hi. Trying to convert an XML that outputs the HTML to directories, xmlto fails to copy the finished work from the /tmp/xmlto.x working directory, to the one was invoked. For example, try to convert Dive into Python's sources: http://diveintopython.org/download/diveintopython-xml-5.4.zip After all is done, cp doesn't copies anything, because skips directories: Writing installing_python/windows.html for section(install.windows) Writing installing_python/macosx.html for section(install.macosx) Writing installing_python/macos9.html for section(install.macos9) [... skipped ...] cp: omitting directory `appendix' cp: omitting directory `dynamic_functions' [ etc. ] I suppose a cp -r should do the trick, and be OK for the rest. Feel free to lower the severity, but I considered this bug enough important, because you can not tell xmlto not to clean the files in /tmp, so all work is lost (unless you interrupt the process). Package: lcms Severity: wishlist Hi. This is a reminder that a new upstream version is available at: http://www.littlecms.com/downloads.htm Unfortunately, 1.14 is needed for building Krita (not in Debian yet, but I suppose it will be, since is part of KOffice). Bug#292223: kxdocker: Empty and incomplete files in /usr/share/doc
Package: kxdocker Version: 0.26-1 Severity: normal Hi. After suffering #292148, I came to /usr/share/doc to see if there is any documentation, but I discovered some empty files, two of them compressed :-? - changelog.gz and NEWS.gz contain only one space, so don't need to be compressed - README and TODO are not compressed, but contain only one space - copyright lacks the copyright owner ;) Greetings. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.7-1-386 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages kxdocker depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.3.2-1 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.16-6Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc62.3.2.ds1-20GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.7.0-6 client library to control the FAM ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-7 GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn11 0.5.2-3 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-1 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt3:3.3.3-8 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-6 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#289725: konserve crashes immediately on starting a backup
El Lunes, 10 de Enero de 2005 19:28, Oleksandr Moskalenko escribió: Package: konserve Version: 0.10.3-1 Severity: normal I've just installed konserve and created a backup profile. Konserve crashed right when starting a backup. strace and ltrace files are attached. I'm afraid I've never had this problem, and I'm unable to reproduce it. Can you please try the following? 1. Log out of KDE. 2. mv .kde .kde.backup 3. Login. 4. Try to reproduce then. If you can reproduce it now, please, send me the detailed steps to get the crash. If you can't, restore your KDE configuration files (mv .kde.backup .kde) and delete the konserverc and konserve session files (find .kde -name 'konserve*' -exec rm {} \;), and try again. I'm afraid I can't find anything from the strace. :-( Thanks for the report. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) - GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://darkshines.net/ - Jabber ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#289773: lintian: desktop-file-in-wrong-dir ignores other standard directories
Package: lintian Version: 1.23.7 Severity: normal Hi. I saw that in 1.23.6, lintian closed the wish reported in #200171. However, instead of checking that a desktop file is an obsolete directory (/usr/share/applnk or /usr/share/gnome/apps), it checks that it is not in /usr/share/applications. This is incorrect, because, for example, KDE, has other standard directories for servicemenus, components (KParts), icon sets, and others. This files should _not_ be installed in /usr/share/applications, because they are not intended to create a menu. Note also, that some upstream developers, try to be both backwards and forwards compatible: http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/0.9/apc.html So some (but not all) desktop files under the old directories are indeed OK.
