Bug#842707: Aw: Re: aptitude keep-all hangs forever
Hi Manuel, I did not find this setting > Do you have GzipIndexes indexes enabled in apt/aptitude config? anywhere. root's ~/.aptitude/config is: 8< aptitude ""; aptitude::Keep-Unused-Pattern ""; aptitude::Delete-Unused-Pattern ""; aptitude::Delete-Unused "false"; aptitude::Auto-Upgrade "true"; aptitude::UI ""; aptitude::UI::Pause-After-Download "OnlyIfError"; aptitude::UI::InfoAreaTabs "false"; 8< I also checked in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/* and a grep on GzipIndexes yielded nothing. Where else should I look? Regards Andreas
Bug#811355: pcmanfm: Modified time defaults to 2012-09-15 instead of current date
Package: pcmanfm Version: 1.2.3-1.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, in the Tools menu go to Find files... -> Search Files(box) -> Properties(tab). The "Last Modified Time" always defaults to September 15, 2012 instead of the current date. And since the month and year selectors are no drop-down lists it requires a lot of clicks to get to a date close to present. It would be great if this dialogue could default to "today" or at least remember the previously selected date. Bug#691627: XFCE4 - switch user - without Gnome's Dependencies Vortex
Package: xfswitch-plugin Version: 0.0.1-5 Followup-For: Bug #691627 I am surprised that this chain of GNOME dependencies still exists with xfswitch-plugin. If it is only due to the gdmflexiserver that is not in lightdm, there may be a simple solution: When I switched from GNOME2 to XFCE several years ago I required a user switching option. On the web somewhere I found a very simple script that provides a drop-in replacement for gdmflexiserver. It is so short that I can just copy-n-paste it here: 8< #!/bin/sh # # Copyright (C) 2011 Canonical Ltd # Author: Michael Terry# # This program is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under # the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software # Foundation, version 3 of the License. # # See http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html for the full text of the license. if [ -z "$XDG_SEAT_PATH" ]; then # something went wrong exit 1 fi dbus-send --system --type=method_call --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.DisplayManager $XDG_SEAT_PATH org.freedesktop.DisplayManager.Seat.SwitchToGreeter >8 May be this script could replace the gdm3 dependency in xfswitch? I simply put this in /usr/local/bin and it works for me on several machines running vanilla Debian (testing) or Linx Mint Debian Edtion 1 & 2 (LMDE1, LMDE2), respectively. I use lightdm, except on one machine, where after upgrade to LMDE2 lightdm behaved weirdly, so I replaced it with MDM; but the gdmflexiserver script works fine there, too. I am not sure where I found this script when I first used it. But today, there are: https://code.launchpad.net/~mterry/lightdm/gdmflexiserver and https://code.launchpad.net/~mterry/lightdm/gdmflexiserver-fix -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.2 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init)
Bug#799558: inkscape: SVG files are (re-)opened at arbitrary zoom level; usually showing minor portions of the page, only
Package: inkscape Version: 0.91-5 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, When opening SVG files, inkscape seems to choose arbitrary zoom levels. In most cases only a small part of the page is shown. It happens regardless whether the image has been created/edited with Inkscape before or not. This requires the user to manually set a usable level for viewing the image or working on it. After my opinion, images created/edited in Inkscape should be re-opened at the same zoom level that was used when they were last saved. As a fall-back value, a zoom level showing the whole page (same as pressing [5]) would be a comfortable solution. Hello Adrian. I just uploaded sane-backends 1.0.23 into experimental. Could you install it and check whether your scanner is working again? I have checked my Epson Perfection 1650 Photo (i.e. with transparency unit) with libsane 1.0.23 (as well as version 1.0.23 of libsane-common, libsane-dbg, sane-utils). * scanning at 320, 640, 800 dpi is okay for gray and colour scans. * transparency scanning is okay at 800 dpi. As far as I can see, all settings options are there, and everything seems to work fine. One little thing, though: after scanning transparencies and switching back to flatbed from transparencies, the transparency unit's light stays on until you perform a preview scan. Only then will it be switched off. After my opinion the light should be switched off as soon as you switch back to flatbed in the options window. May be this should be another bug report? Package: myspell-de-de-oldspell Version: 1:2-28 Severity: normal Tags: l10n Dear Maintainer, while I usually prefer to use modern German spelling, I sometimes work on older texts that use old spelling rules. I am mostly using myspell from within LibreOffice. Sadly, the myspell-de-de-oldspell package conflicts with myspell-de-de. This means it is impossible to have both installed at the same time - which would be very useful for people working with older and younger texts, alike (even for students studying the German language when writing a seminar paper where they have to quote parts of older texts. The package conflict is probably a problem for other people working on old and new texts and like to use a spellchecker. Is it possible to modify this package in a way to allow for it to be installed together with myspell-de-de and treat it like a different language (similar to de-ch or de-at, for example). Bug#648338: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#648338: thunar: Problems occur after update to gtk3(?): no file or menu icons, no file associations
Hello Yves-Alexis. Thunar is gtk2 so if you try to use gtk3 it'll obviously fail. And if gtk2 files are missing, then you indeed have a problem on your install. I think the packages are there (as other gtk2 programs are also running, some of them with weird glitches/problems), but I do not know the name of the main library file of gtk2. I was aware Thunar *should* use gtk2 but I wanted to see if it - for some reason used gtk3. Running /usr/bin/Thunar from the xterminal (xfce4-terminal) let's it show Icons properly so the gtk2 library files seem to be fine (I guess). By the way: I accidently opened the home folder this morning - and it worked, but with a difference: one instance (think --daemon) started using the starter in the toolbar was already running and had list view activated (I usually use symbol view for most stuff in Thunar). I tried this several times. But once I switched from list to large symbols in the Thunar instance started clicking the home folder icon everything was back to broken; and now, again, for further instances started using the toolbar starter, too (though the first instance started via the toolbar remained fine!). That might be related to the Control/Primary change in GTK2. I did not find anything on this. Can you point me somewhere this is explained? You might want to re-set your shortcuts, unfortunately. That does not work: I tried setting them, but they don't get saved by medit. Thanks again for the quick response. Bug#648338: thunar: Problems occur after update to gtk3(?): no file or menu icons, no file associations
Package: thunar Version: 1.2.3-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, yesterday I ran a system update (using synaptic) which included gtk3 and related libs. After the next login Thunar behaved very weirdly: * The icons in Thunar are missing, as well for the files as for the menus. * All file type associations seemed to be gone. I checked with a newly created profile and logged in using XFCE. There, it seemed to work. I checked with my own user, using an empty .config folder. This seemed to work at first. But after playing around a bit (I think I changed some settings, too), logging out and in again, the problem was there again. I tried with several sets of folders from the original .config and the newly created one. The problem always remained. I get the impression that some file(s) outside of ..config may be responsible. Today, after logging out and back in several times (for other reasons), I clicked on a toolbar starter for Thunar (command in the starter's settings is simply thunar) right after logging in. This time the icons and file type associations were there. But alas, when opening the home folder (clicking it's icon on the desktop) the new Thunar window had no icons, nor file type associations. When starting another instance using the already mentioned starter in the toolbar, this instance was also lacking icons and associations. I do not know if my problems have to do with the fact that I updated with synaptic and XFCE + Thunar were running at the time of the update. But if so, this problem should be avoided by either providing a clean update path (i.e. conversions where necessary) or a warning to the user that this upgrade should be run while no X(FCE?) or no Thunar instance is running. What can I do to find out where the problem originates and how to solve it? Bug#648338: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#648338: thunar: Problems occur after update to gtk3(?): no file or menu icons, no file associations
Hi Yves-Alexis. Thank you for the quick reply. Just to be sure, are you *certain* that it's Thunar which runs there? Quite :-) I know the looks (plus the new Nautilus design is sooo ugly, GNOME Commander too different, mc, well ...;-). I checked with ps, too, just to be sure what is running: andreas 29044 0.1 0.5 132664 18356 ?S22:14 0:01 thunar andreas 29107 0.3 0.4 43756 14560 ?S22:14 0:01 /usr/bin/Thunar --daemon Looks inconspicious to me. which points to these if I ask it for thunar and Thunar, respectively: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Okt 14 19:12 /usr/bin/thunar - Thunar -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 780724 Okt 14 19:12 /usr/bin/Thunar I did a reinstall of the thunar package yesterday, just in case. The preferred application for filemanager is set to Thunar (I also tried selecting it there manually to be /usr/bin/thunar %s). What I find exceptionally weird is the fact that it works from the starter in the toolbar (until the homefolder, bin, or other folders on the desktop have been opened clicking on them (using Thunar). I don't see where the two actions are differnt (starting the application using the starter vs. opening a folder like ~ using the application thunar). Please double-check you don't have any locally installed GTK/Glib library (for example in /usr/local) which would mess with your Thunar install. /usr/local/lib has the folders python2.5 python2.6 python2.7 python3.1 python3.2 site_ruby only. Doesn't look like anything gtk/glib-related to me. /usr/local/bin /usr/local/include /usr/local/sbin are empty, /usr/local/share has nothing looking relevant (fonts, locale, some applications' folders). $PATH = /home/andreas/.bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games and nothing related in ~/.bin either. BUT: 8 andreas@halucigenia:/etc/default$ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libgtk-3.so thunar Gtk-ERROR **: GTK+ 2.x symbols detected. Using GTK+ 2.x and GTK+ 3 in the same process is not supported aborting... Abgebrochen 8 The libgtk2.0-0, libgtk2.0-bin and libgtk2.0-common packages are installed, because many programs still depend on them. But I do not find the .so-File of libgtk2, so I cannot try thunar with preloading that. By the way, just in case it provides a hint: mcedit lost (most of) it's default keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+S for saving, Ctrl+C, Del, etc.). Weirdly, some like F3 for find next, F5 for reload and a couple of others involving function keys are still there; but this is going to be a different bug report ;-). Bug#648220: After upgrade to gdm3 session selection defaults to system default
Package: gdm3 Version: 3.0.4-4 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I just updated a couple of packages, one of which pulled in the upgrade from gdm2 to gdm3. Now, there is no option to start the previous session. The sessions drop down list defaults to system default. But if you try to login this fails because a system default seemingly doesn't exist. Hi Francesco. I have just purged + reinstalled midori, and removed the old ~/.config/midori directory. Now, everything is fine: homepage=file:///usr/share/doc/midori/faq.html in file /etc/xdg/midori/config and this file is shown when Midori is started for the first time. Kind regards Andreas Am 01.10.2011 23:22, schrieb Francesco Poli: On Tue, 02 Aug 2011 10:32:06 +0200 Andreas Neudecker wrote: [...] I have now installed Midori on a different machine. The same happens here and the file /etc/xdg/midori/config has the lines: 8 [settings] homepage=file:///usr/share/doc/midori/user/midori.html 8 To make sure this was not due to some old config files lying around from the past, I purged the midori package, checked that the config folder /etc/xdg/midori is gone and reinstalled the package. Same result. Version is 0.3.6.1 from testing (wheezy). Hi Andreas, I am another user of the midori package. I've recently installed midori version 0.4.0-2 and I have not experienced the bug you reported: $ cat /etc/xdg/midori/config [settings] homepage=file:///usr/share/doc/midori/faq.html By looking at the Debian changelog, it seems to me that this bug was fixed by version 0.3.6-2, which, however, did not close the bug report. If you confirm that the bug is no longer present in midori = 0.3.6-2 , I think this bug report may be safely closed (as fixed in version 0.3.6-2). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#641564: gsmartcontrol: Info textbox in Perform Tests tab should use available vertical space.

Bug#639451: cameramonitor: Running in XFCE status icon keeps claiming camera is on after it was switched off
Package: cameramonitor Version: 0.2-2.1 Severity: normal Hi. As seems to be common, the built-in webcam of my laptop lights up an LED when it is switched on, and switches it off together with the camera. Previously the status bar icon of cameramonitor would only appear when the camera was switched on and disappear when it was switched off again. Also, it would pop up messages saying the camera was switched on/off. Now behaviour has changed: When cameramonitor is started at session-start-up, the status icon does not appear, as befor. It appears when the webcam is switched on. But no message pops up. Then, when the webcam is switched off again, the icon stays, does not pop up a message, and the tool tip still claims the camera is on. When killing cameramonitor and restarting it, no icon appears, just as if the camera is off. When starting a 2nd X session cameramonitor starting in that session also seems to find the camera is off. Now I am wondering if I should be paranoid (can the camera be on if it's LED is switched off, or are they coupled in a way that is not possible?) or something has changed with the data cameramonitor uses to detect the current status of the webcam. I checked this with camorama, cheese, guvcview, and skype. I also attached an external USB webcam and reconfigured cameramonitor to /dev/video1 (instead of /dev/video0 for the built-in cam). Same results. Settings in the preferences dialogue (cameramonitor -p) are: Video device: /dev/video0 Timeout (seconds): 2 Notification: [+] Show notification when camera is switched Autostart [ ] Autostart Camera Monitor with every session (it's off because I start it via a short script that I put in the autostart settings. Now, this did not work anymore, because the file has been moved to /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so I adapted my ~/.profile accordingly, but when trying to preload the library I get: 8 andreas@halucigenia:~$ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. 8 Workaround: when creating a symlink (ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l /usr/lib/libv4l) it works again, so it seems some hardcoded path is still pointing to the old location? Kind regards Andreas ¹actually, the fix just flips the video image on top, i.e. it is still mirrored, not properly turned by 180°. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.utf8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libv4l-0 depends on: ii libc6 2.13-10Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libjpeg8 8c-2 Independent JPEG Group's JPEG runt ii multiarch-support 2.13-10Transitional package to ensure mul libv4l-0 recommends no packages. libv4l-0 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#630967: Homepage?
Hi Yves-Alexis. The default homepage is /usr/share/doc/midori/faq.html (which does indeed exists), see /etc/xdg/midori/config. I'm not exactly sure from where you get that page but it's not the default homepage at least. I have now installed Midori on a different machine. I am using the repository ftp.plusline.de with the line Is it perhaps possible that you have a modified /etc/xdg/midori/config that does not get removed when you purge so it is still there after reinstallation (assuming you purged + reinstalled for testing purposes). 8 deb http://ftp.plusline.de/debian/ testing main contrib non-free 8 in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/testing.list Also, Midori said this in the xterm/bash I started it from: 8 andreas@halucigenia:~$ midori (midori:15679): GLib-WARNING **: GError set over the top of a previous GError or uninitialized memory. This indicates a bug in someone's code. You must ensure an error is NULL before it's set. Bug#629650: Same here while gvfs-fuse was installed
Package: gvfs-fuse Followup-For: Bug #629650 Hi. I had gvfs-fuse installed on a machine, probably pulled in by deja-dup, the only program dependent on gvfs-fuse that was installed. The machine was not in use for approx. 6 weeks. Yesterday I did an upgrade (running wheezy) and gvfs- fuse was version 1.6.4-3 after that (don't know about before). Now, I had the same problem the reporter of this bug describes. After logging out of the first session of my default user account (andreas) Thunar was not able to open ~ any more stating an fstat() error on .gvfs and did not display any content of ~. In an xfce4-terminal it was possible to ls the files; lsof, on the other hand, also stated the fstat() problem for .gvfs. The only way to be able to access ~ again (in Thunar) is to reboot. Interestingly, when I tried with another XFCE user account, xe (started via gdmflexiserver), used for testing and frequently scratched, so usually fairly fresh, this problem did not occur. The only obvious difference (besides xe being rather fresh as compared to andreas) is that xe is using English language in XFCE (locale settings are still DE_DE.UTF-8), and andreas German. After removing gvfs-fuse completely, the problem disappeared after a reboot (so far). Bug#632714: xfwm4: Missing comprehensive documentation of command line options
Package: xfwm4 Version: 4.8.1-3 Severity: normal Hi. Due to some other bug (#632030) I needed to restart xfwm4 in a running session. Neither xfwm4's man file nor the documentation (NOT at/usr/share/xfce4/doc/C/xfwm4.html as the man file claims; #632709) hava a comprehensive documentation of all available command line options as it seems. I found something via Google; i.e. These are in /usr/share/doc/xfwm4/html/C/index.html : --daemon start xfwm4 in the background --enable-compositor=[on|off] To enable the compositor xfwm4 has to be built with the --enable- compositor option. If that was done, using the command line option --enable- compositor=off will disable the compositor on startup (is =on the default if use of the compositor was compiled into xfwm4?) I found this on the internet: xfwm4 --replace start a new instance to replace the already running one (I guess - or does it replace other window managers, too?) http://swoolley.org/man.cgi/1/xfwm has a couple of options for an old version of xfwm (it's an old man file actually) It would be splendid if there was a comprehensive list of options integrated with the man file or the HTML doc. Bug#632030: libxcursor1: Wrong cursor icon in first X session, but not in second.
Hi again. BUT: When hovering over some programs (i.e. iceweasel, thunar, medit etc.) the correct black cursor appears. Other cursor status icons (like that for being busy, the text cursor mouse icon, etc.) do appear in the design of dmz-black). I have to modify the description a little: I have now tested with a different cursor set to rule out the possibility that the white cursors appear because the cursor icon gets displayed inverted (difficult to say when using DMZ black): I installed and selected Chameleon blue. Before starting Thunar in the first X(FCE) session after booting the machine the default mouse pointer is white as described. After starting Thunar, the mousepointer is Chameleon outside Thunar, but white when hovering over Thunar, over XFCE4 panel, and may other programs, it is white again. - Even weirder: with several programs the mouse pointer colour changes from white (over the window's head bar) to Chameleon (inside the window). E.g. Icedove (writing this in it): Mouse over the window: Chameleon default pointer; mouse over window head bar: white default pointer - AND: white resize pointer when over the window's edge or any corner but the bottom right corner, but Chameleon resize pointer when mouse over the bottom right corner. As I read libxcursor is responsible for LOADING cursors I am not sure any more that this is a problem in libxcursor. Might it be GTK or even the X server who is responsible for picking the wrong cursor icons? Bug#632030: libxcursor1: Wrong cursor icon in first X session, but not in second.
Package: libxcursor1 Version: 1:1.1.11-3 Severity: normal Hi. I know the subject line sounds weird. I am not even sure libxcursor1 is the culprit. This is really what happens: Settings: * wheezy (with some stuff from sid) * GDM uses black cursors (dmz-black) from the package dmz-cursor-theme (0.4.3) * my user account, running XFCE4 (versions see below) uses the same black cursors from the package dmz-cursor-theme. Steps to reproduce: 1. booting the system 2. gdm3 (2.30.5-10) comes up 3. logging into my account, running XFCE4 4. session comes up with the default mouse arrow in white instead of black (when hovering over the desktop background, XFCE4's panels or Synaptic's window). BUT: When hovering over some programs (i.e. iceweasel, thunar, medit etc.) the correct black cursor appears. Other cursor status icons (like that for being busy, the text cursor mouse icon, etc.) do appear in the design of dmz-black). 5. logging out of the session 6. logging in again with the same user, same settings: This time the cursor icon is from dmz-black when hovering over the desktop background. This happens every time I boot up the machine and log in for the first time. To sum it up: The default mouse pointer icon seems to be picked wrongly in some situations in the first X session (after booting) of a user using XFCE4 and gdm3, if the user has set a custom mouse cursor icon set from the package dmz- cursor-theme (in XFCE4 as well as in gdm3). This problem seems to disappear after the user has shut down the first X session and logs in again. The message I get is that the file cannot be found. The path given is /usr/lib/thunar-volman/thunar-volman-settings; and thunar- volman-settings indeed resides in /usr/bin from where it can be called manually. Interestingly, in a test account using English language, it works fine. Bug#627111: xfce4-settings: Cannot open thunar-volman-settings due to wrong path in German localization
I just realise it is technically simple to fix (if you KNOW): When upgrading from XFCE4 4.6 to 4.8 recently with wheezy/sid I was asked if I wanted to start with fresh defaults or keep my settings. I kept my settings because I wasn't in the mood to repeat all the settings. Seemingly the package thunar-volman has changed the location of thunar-volman-settings; now in /usr/bin. I had assumed that the menu entries in the settings menu of XFCE4 were something like program-managing-settings --topic. I checked, but it was a simple call to /usr/lib/thunar-volman/thunar-volman-settings. Changing that to /usr/bin/thunar-volman-settings fixed it not only in the direct menu entry, but even when opening Application Menu - Settings - Settings Manager window and clicking on the Removable drives and media symbol. I guess it should be made sure that this should be fixed for upgrades from 4.6 to 4.8. Bug#627111: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#627111: xfce4-settings: Cannot open thunar-volman-settings due to wrong path in German localization
Hi. This is weird. I am 100% sure I never touched the menu entries of the Settings folder before, and I also used that dialogue short while ago when still running 4.6 (switching off autostart of vlc for DVDs at the time). This is completely unrelated to the upgrade dialog (which is only about xfce4-panel, where the settings storage indeed changed). Ok, I didn't assume that the upgrade dialogue did something. I assumed the path to the actual program, thunar-volman-settings, had changed, and this was not changed in the configuration (and may have been when all the files changed). But you say it uses default desktop files, so I keep wondering. Unless you have your own desktop files in .local/share, this is definitely not related. I have NOW, of course, as I used the menu editor to fix it. /usr/share/applications/thunar-volman-settings.desktop doesn't have a path at all; just the line Exec=thunar-volman-settings, just the way it should be. I shall check a backup of my home folder and see if I can somehow reproduce this, when I have some time. Will report if I find anything substantial. Bug#626563: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#626563: Bug#626563: Bug#626563: thunar: Backup files no longer hidden
Hi. Thanks, Yves Alexis. Not sure if you follow the upstream bug so just in case: Not so far. Thanks for the hint. * a comment on this bug makes sense to me: the behavior should be the same as ls: by default ~ files are shown, they're not only shown with -A/-a. While the argument with ls is not wrong, in fact the behaviour of Thunar was changed. And in a way that is inconvenient if you use ~ for backup files in editors (as seems to be default in several of them). Previously invisible backup files pop up everywhere like weeds. - In this case I think, if Thunar's default behaviour is changed, it should be possible to reconfigure the old behaviour, even if only in some rc file. Bug#626586: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#626586: Menu: View Side Pane [ ] Shortcuts / [ ] Tree should be radio buttons
Hi Yves-Alexis. Can you do radio buttons inside menus? Yesss, sssirrr, GTK+ can, sssirrr! ;-) GtkRadioMenuItem — A choice from multiple check menu items [...]A radio menu item is a check menu item that belongs to a group. At each instant exactly one of the radio menu items from a group is selected. The group list does not need to be freed, as each GtkRadioMenuItem will remove itself and its list item when it is destroyed. http://www.gtk.org/api/2.6/gtk/GtkRadioMenuItem.html The XFC pages of XFCE.org say this: Detailed Description A GtkRadioMenuItem C++ wrapper class. A radio menu item is a check menu item that belongs to a group. At each instant exactly one of the radio menu items from a group is selected. You create a group radio menu items the same way you would create a group of buttons (see Gtk::RadioButton). http://xfc.xfce.org/docs/reference/html/classXfc_1_1Gtk_1_1RadioMenuItem.html http://ruby-gnome2.sourceforge.jp/hiki.cgi?tut-gtk2-mnstbs-mnui also has some nice explanation (for Ruby, though): Radio Menu Items Gtk::RadioMenuItem is a widget derived from Gtk::CheckMenuItem. It is rendered as a radio button instead of a check button. A radio menu item is a check menu item that belongs to a group. At each instant exactly one of the radio menu items from a group is selected. The first radio button should be created with Gtk::RadioMenuItem.new(label = nil, use_underline = true). All other radio menu items should be created with Gtk::RadioMenuItem.new(group, label = nil, use_underline = true). Bug#599270: Now wrongly updated more version-locked packages
Hi. Now I found that update-manager has included my libsane and sane-utils packages with a previous upgrade breaking my scanner support (due to bug #597922 I had to install from http://snapshot.debian.org/package/sane-backends/1.0.20-14/#libsane_1.0.20-14:2b:b1 ). - Update manager updated all, but (of course?) left the lock. I didn't even realise this until I tried to scan something. I now consider this bug a grave one as it can actually break functionality. Consider the worst case where for some reason a core part of the system has to be locked (due to hardware compatibility issues) but is updated to a new version by update-manager. I hope this gets fixed. Regards Andreas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#591023: backintime-gnome: Clicking help button results in infinite number of help windows opening in fast succession
Hi Jonathan, I now reproduced the bug with two more programs, gnofract4d (deb package from programs site, gnofract4d_3.13-1ubuntu1_i386.deb), and pybliographic (squeeze version: 1.2.12-3.2). What they have in common with backintime-gnome is that they all use python (and python-gtk2 and/or python-gnome2). So may be it is a problem with gnome-help, but it may also be a problem with the way python-gtk2 makes the call. Or both. Best regards Andreas Am 17.08.2010 23:27, schrieb Jonathan Wiltshire: tag 591023 + unreproducible Hi, On Sat, Jul 31, 2010 at 03:04:00AM +0200, Andreas Neudecker wrote: Clicking the help button in the tool bar results in an infinite number of (empty?) help windows (yelp) opening in fast succession. I can't reproduce this behaviour; please ensure you have the lastest packages and check that it wasn't just part of a transition in testing at that time. After restarting gdm and logging back in tried running backintime-gnome from said console and logged stderr output: These four lines repeat many times, apparently once for each help window opened: 8 (gnome-help:3991): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tool_button_new: assertion `icon_widget == NULL || GTK_IS_MISC (icon_widget)' failed (gnome-help:3991): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (gnome-help:3991): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_connect_data: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed (gnome-help:3991): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_toolbar_insert: assertion `GTK_IS_TOOL_ITEM (item)' failed 8 From this trace it's likely to be a problem in gnome-help; if you can reproduce it, I'll reassign it there and see what they can make of it. Bug#599270: update-manager-core: Does not honour version lock on xvidcap
Package: update-manager-core Version: 0.200.4-1 Severity: normal Hi. I have recently installed the package xvidcap. First using debian- multimedia.org (yes, I know, it's not official Debian), then by manually installing the Debian package provided by xvidcap.sf.net. Because the version from xvidcap.sf.net is 1.1.7 and the one from debian- multimedia.org (which is still in my sources list due to other programs) is 1.1.7-0.5, I have locked the manually installed version 1.1.7 in synaptic. Now, whenever update-manager is started (I use the GNOME GUI) it includes xvidcap in the list of packages to be updated, not honouring the lock set by synaptic. With other packages like sane, sane-utils, xsane, xsane-common, libsane, libsane-extras, libsane-hpaio, etc. locked versions older than the current version in squeeze is honoured by update-manager. It is unclear to me why this is different with xvidcap. May be because it is from a different repository? After my opinion locks should be honoured regardless of the repository (in sources.list) the newer version is originally from. Bug#597922: sane: SANE does not work anymore with Epson Perfection 1650. Used to work perfectly.
Package: sane Version: 1.0.14-9 Severity: normal sane: SANE does not work any more with Epson Perfection 1650. Used to work perfectly. Hi. I have a Epson Perfection 1650 with slide/foto scanning extension (different top with backlight). This used to work just fine. The first time around 2002 I had to configure the printer manually in Debian (potato or sarge?), but after installing (sarge?) on a different PC the scanner was recognised automatically and all functions including slide scanning worked at once. It remained that way on sarge and etch. Same when, from 2008 to spring this year I used the scanner on Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy heron). Now, running Debian squeeze on an ASUS K70IJ-TY107L laptop, the scanner never worked with the drivers that come with sane. According to http://www.sane-project.org/sane-backends.html#S-EPSON2 and http://www.sane-project.org/man/sane-epson2.5.html it should be working Good (comment column: overseas version of the GT-8200UF). On http://www.sane-project.org/sane-backends.html#S-EPSON2 these printers are described as: Model Interface USB idStatus Comment GT-8200U USB 0x04b8/0x0110 Complete GT-8200UF USB 0x04b8/0x0110 Good Perfection 1650 USB 0x04b8/0x0110 Completeoverseas version of the GT-8200U Perfection 1650 PHOTO USB 0x04b8/0x0110 Goodoverseas version of the GT-8200UF Previously on Ubuntu it used to offer the GT-8200 and Perfection 1650 so I could select 1650 manually which worked fine; before that on Debian, it just opened the xsane window for the 1650 correctly). Now, what happens is that sane (starting xsane from inside GIMP usually) recognises the scanner as a Epson GT-8200 Flatbed Scanner [epson2:libusb:007:003]. When clicking for a preview scan, the scanner moved the sledge with the LEDs to start position and then along the page. Right after that an error message pops up in xsane saying the scan was aborted due to an error. When restarting xsane after that, the scanner is not found any more and it has to be disconnected, switched off and on again, reconnected, to be recognised the next time xsane starts. When running xsane from a terminal I get: andr...@machine:~$ xsane Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkOptionMenu::indicator-size' of type `GtkRequisition' from rc file value 0 of type `glong' Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkOptionMenu::indicator-spacing' of type `GtkBorder' from rc file value 0 of type `glong' [epson2] e2_ext_read: cancel request received As a (problematic!) workaround I installed iscan, the package offered by Epson to use this scanner; but it does not work as well as the generic sane solution used to, also it conflicts with initramfs-tools and I have to uninstall the package every time initramfs-tools is triggered to rebuild the initramfs. This also poses a risc because the update-manager will not notify you beforehand that initramfs needs to be triggered, and today, it happened that the initramfs-tools trigger was activated, but failed. This was not noted in the update-manager except that it said something went wrong, but not what did. If I hadn't looked into this I might not have been able to boot the machine again after the next shutdown. So I would rather use sane without the iscan package as I used to. If there is anything I can try to find out more about this problem or anything to fix it I would like to know. Hi Julien, thanks for the quick response. reassign 597922 libsane Sorry I didn't realise it had to be libsane, not sane :-) found 597922 1.0.21-1 I read stuff on related libsane bugs and found your post http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=582066#19 very helpful. I got myself libsane 1.0.20-14+b1n from http://snapshot.debian.org/package/sane-backends/1.0.20-14/#libsane_1.0.20-14:2b:b1 With this version it works just fine. Even though the scanner is recognised as GT-8200 (I haven't checked slide scanning though, but paper, colour, 300dpi just worked as it used to). Locking this version for now, hoping there will be a fix before it becomes unusable due to dependencies. Now I wonder if doing a stack trace would help. And if so, how do I proceed with a C program to do that (only know stack traces from Python so far). Bug#551468: Similar here: xarchiver either crashes or shows scrambled listing with weird characters
Package: xarchiver Version: 1:0.5.2+20090319+dfsg-4 Severity: normal Hi. When opening a 7z archive by clicking on it's icon in Thunar (XFCE file manager) xarchiver opens and shows the content listing of the archive wrongly. Neither the names nor the number of files/folders in the listing correspond to the real files or folders inside the archive. After trying this a couple of times with different archives, xarchiver began crashing when trying to open a 7z archive. All within one session. When running xarchiver archive.7z in the shell, it always crashes. Hi Jonathan. Yes, the problem persists. The version of backintime and backintime-gnome I am running is 0.9.26-4. And yes, it is gnome-help that spawns infinite times until you kill -9 it. But this only happens in backintime-gnome, not in other Gnome programs. I can't reproduce this behaviour; please ensure you have the lastest packages and check that it wasn't just part of a transition in testing at that time. Bug#592993: RFP: datacrow -- Datacrow is a modular media catalogue and organiser with configurable reporting system.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: datacrow Version : 3.8.16 Upstream Author : Robert Jan van der Waals i...@datacrow.net * URL : http://www.datacrow.net/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: Java Description : Datacrow is a modular media catalogue and organiser with configurable reporting system, a loan administration and a module wizard for new media types or specific requirements for existing media modules. Included with the program are modules for movies, software, photos, containers, books, audio CDs, music albums, generic media, contact persons, users. Adding new media is very easy and can be done automatically by searching the databases of sites like Amazon, IMDB, Metacritic and others for ISBNs, titles, EANs (European article numbers), et cetera. Datacrow even has an automatic update function that allows to replace the entries with new data from said online data sources or append new data to existing entries. A comfortable filter option allows to filter by author, genre, actors, and, year of publication et cetera, combined searches and custom sorting. The report function offers export of HTML or PDF reports and preset report formats plus the option to generate your own. The included user management and loan management allows to manage media you have lent to other people and even use Datacrow for a library. The GUI has localizations for Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. The online help is currently English only. The software derived in 2003 from a CD library software written by the same author. Written in Java and published under the GPL the software runs on Linux, Windows, MacOS X and can be started from USB media as a portable app. Regards Andreas Neudecker -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#591023: backintime-gnome: Clicking help button results in infinite number of help windows opening in fast succession
Package: backintime-gnome Version: 0.9.26-4 Severity: normal Hi. Clicking the help button in the tool bar results in an infinite number of (empty?) help windows (yelp) opening in fast succession. This makes it impossible to shutdown backintime or stop more help windows being opened or do anything else useful to stop the disaster. On my system it wasn't even possible to Ctrl+Alt+Backspace out of X. I eventually had to go to a console (Alt+F2) and stop gdm to stop it. After restarting gdm and logging back in tried running backintime-gnome from said console and logged stderr output: These four lines repeat many times, apparently once for each help window opened: 8 (gnome-help:3991): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tool_button_new: assertion `icon_widget == NULL || GTK_IS_MISC (icon_widget)' failed (gnome-help:3991): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance (gnome-help:3991): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_connect_data: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed (gnome-help:3991): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_toolbar_insert: assertion `GTK_IS_TOOL_ITEM (item)' failed 8 I consider this bug critical because it may lead to data loss, when an unsuspecting user has unsaved data in other running programs when he clicks on the help button (!) in backintime and cannot access a console (or does not know how to use it). Also, other program's configuration files might be broken when the user chooses the reset button as last resort (or, in my case kills gdm to stop X and thus the user's session - after the next login XFCE failed to start xfce4-panel so I had to fix that). Bug#589868: jedit: IPv6-related kernel parameter's new default (bindv6only = 1) breaks network access
Hi Gabriele. Version: 4:04.03.99.02 you're using upstream version. Could you please start using Debian version 4.3.2+dfsg-2 which should work fine too? :) Sorry, that was a manual install. You have to manually remove it because 4:04.03.99.02 appears newer and it doesn't downgrade. Now running the Debian version. If you added deb http://mirror.dl.sourceforge.net/project/jedit / to sources.list, remove it. Bug#589868: jedit: IPv6-related kernel parameter's new default (bindv6only = 1) breaks network access
Package: jedit Version: 4:04.03.99.02 Severity: important Hi. Recently jEdit stopped being able to install/upload plugins. Then other Java applications followed. A search pointed me to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=561835#5 so I tried echo 0 /proc/sys/net/ipv6/bindv6only as suggested in the post mentioned above. This did indeed solve the problem. According to what the poster writes, I submit this bug report so this incompatibility of jEdit's with that new kernel parameter's default can be fixed. Bug#588209: openoffice.org-writer: Writer GUI/usability: Styler doesn't remember setting view to hierachical
Package: openoffice.org-writer Version: 1:3.2.1-3 Severity: normal Hi. I find it very practical to keep the Styler window attached to the right side showing the hierachical view of all paragraph styles so that their interdependencies are visible. Sadly, this setting (i.e. hierarchical view) is never remembered. So every time I start OpenOffice.org I have to reset the view from automatic to hierarchical. This got very annoying over time, and I think it is unexpected behaviour. The chosen view should be saved at program exit and reused automatically for the next session. Bug#587844: fontforge: FontForge doesn't use user's default browser to show online help
Package: fontforge Version: 0.0.20090923-2+b1 Severity: normal Hi. User has set iceweasel as preferred browser in XFCE's settings. FontForge is using Opera instead to open online help when you click on Help-Help (F1). This seams to happen because Opera set's itself as default in alternatives for x-www-browser (priority 90 while iceweasel politely sets only 70 here). As a quick fix you can of course remove the Opera entry in alternatives. But I bet that Opera resets it every time it is upgraded. FontForge should honor user settings over system-wide settings here. Are these settings not a freedesktop.org standard? Can FontForge evaluate user's preferences on browser (and other apps)? Bug#585610: icedove: Printing ALWAYS prints to Letter, A4 cannot be selected anywhere, even though printer has ONLY A4
Package: icedove Version: 3.0.4-3 Severity: important It is impossible to print to A4 in Icedove. Default setting is Letter even though the physical printer has only A4 configured and loaded. Even with the virtual CUPS PDF printer it is not possible to select any other page size because the respective entry is disabled and shows Letter as preset (File-Print-Page Setup). Actually, all entries on that page except duplex, pages per sheet and scaling are disabled for any printer, real or virtual. This is very annoying and makes printing in icedove unusable for anyone who does not by default use letter format, i.e. innumerable users in many countries other than the US.
