Bug#768443: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64: Wifi does not connect after kernel upgrade
Package: src:linux Version: 3.16.7-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Wifi does not connect with kernel 3.16-3 or newer. Wifi is on, and available networks are shown in the Network Manager, but it fails to connect. Kernel 3.16-3, 3.16-0.4 and 3.17-1 are affected. The problem disappears if I reboot with the old kernel 3.16-2, and wifi works as usual. My wireless device is Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless N 7260, and the driver in use is firmware-iwlwifi 0.43. I uninstalled acroread, and the problem disappeared. I installed it again, and still I wasn't able to reproduce the bug. So I'm not sure whether it depends on acroread. I tried to print various things on different printers from various applications, but I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. I'll keep an eye on it and see if this happens again. I looked at the bug reports you mentioned, so probably it is a problem of another package. I have acroread installed, but acroread was closed - I was printing with evince. But I will try to reproduce the problem and find it out. > > On Wed 08 Oct 2014 at 14:04:46 +0200, Antonio Sartori wrote: > >> When trying to print (tried twice from evince, not tested from other >> software), cups creates millions of symbolic links in /tmp to the ppd >> driver in /etc/cups/ppd. Yes. The problem is that systemd wants to empty the tmp folder during the boot. I don't know how it does it, but the problem is that removing millions of files is slow, anyway (see http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/96935/faster-way-to-delete-large-number-of-files). I was finally able to list some of the files using "ls -Uf | head -n 100" (it seems the slow part is the sorting of ls). The files where actually a bit more than 100. For removing the files, I used "ionice -c 2 -n 7 find . -type l -delete", but it took more than one hour to finish. >> Notice that deleting the files by hand is tricky, since they are too >> many (rm does not work, it is not even possible to list the files with >> ls), I don't know how to do this. For now, I mounted tmp as tmpfs so I can try againg without making the system unbootable. Bug#764472: cups creates millions of temporary files when printing
Hello Brian, Some additional information: The links are created when printing with evince, but not when printing with lp. (Actually, printing with evince produces blank pages, but I don't know whether this is related - maybe it's a problem of my pdf file.) The links continue to be created after the print command from evince has been given (about 50 links per minute). During this, a process uses most of the cpu, and it is /usr/bin/python /usr/share/system-config-printer/scp-dbus-service.py Killing this process, the creation of symlinks stops. So I guess this is what creates this lot of symlinks. I am not quite sure now whether this is a bug of evince, or of system-config-printer or something else. Bug#764472: cups creates millions of temporary files when printing
Package: cups Version: 1.7.5-4 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software Dear Maintainer, When trying to print (tried twice from evince, not tested from other software), cups creates millions of symbolic links in /tmp to the ppd driver in /etc/cups/ppd. The names of the symbolic links are similar to 54351da228fae. This causes the system to hang on the next reboot while systemd tries to empty the tmp folder, making the system unbootable. Notice that deleting the files by hand is tricky, since they are too many (rm does not work, it is not even possible to list the files with ls), I don't know how to do this. For now, I rebooted the system using a live dist and I typed mv /tmp /tmp2. This enables the system to boot again. Help on how I can delete the folder tmp2 would also be appreciated. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=it_IT.utf8, LC_CTYPE=it_IT.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages cups depends on: ii cups-client1.7.5-4 ii cups-common1.7.5-4 ii cups-core-drivers 1.7.5-4 ii cups-daemon1.7.5-4 ii cups-filters 1.0.59-1 ii cups-ppdc 1.7.5-4 ii cups-server-common 1.7.5-4 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.53 ii ghostscript9.06~dfsg-1 ii libavahi-client3 0.6.31-4 ii libavahi-common3 0.6.31-4 ii libc-bin 2.19-11 ii libc6 2.19-11 ii libcups2 1.7.5-4 ii libcupscgi11.7.5-4 ii libcupsimage2 1.7.5-4 ii libcupsmime1 1.7.5-4 ii libcupsppdc1 1.7.5-4 ii libgcc11:4.9.1-16 ii libstdc++6 4.9.1-16 ii libusb-1.0-0 2:1.0.19-1 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13 ii poppler-utils 0.26.5-1 ii procps 2:3.3.9-8 Versions of packages cups recommends: ii avahi-daemon 0.6.31-4 ii colord 1.2.1-1+b1 ii cups-filters [ghostscript-cups] 1.0.59-1 ii printer-driver-gutenprint5.2.10-3 Versions of packages cups suggests: ii cups-bsd 1.7.5-4 pn cups-pdf ii foomatic-db-compressed-ppds [foomatic-db] 20140730-1 ii hplip 3.14.6-1 ii printer-driver-hpcups 3.14.6-1 ii smbclient 2:4.1.11+dfsg-2 ii udev 215-5+b1 -- debconf information: cupsys/raw-print: true cupsys/backend: lpd, socket, usb, snmp, dnssd -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#756179: grub-efi-amd64: Boot failure after upgrade to 2.02~beta2-11
Package: grub-efi-amd64 Version: 2.02~beta2-11 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, On Lenovo Thinkpad X240 laptop, after upgrading grub to 2.02~beta2-11 (upgrade completed without errors), on reboot I get the following error message from the BIOS: "Some essential variables are absent or corrupted and Boot Manager has restored them from default configuration" Then grub starts into its minimal shell and gives a command line. After rebooting, the bios error does not appear anymore but grub starts again into its minimal shell. Booting with an usb stick into the system and doing grub-install makes the BIOS error appear again. Downgrading grub to 2.00-22 and reinstalling grub removes the issue. -- Package-specific info: *** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/disk/by-uuid/5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 / ext4 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda1 /boot/efi vfat rw,noatime,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=utf8,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro,discard 0 0 /dev/sda8 /home ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sda5 /boot2 ext4 rw,relatime,stripe=4,data=ordered 0 0 *** END /proc/mounts *** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then set have_grubenv=true load_env fi set default="0" if [ x"${feature_menuentry_id}" = xy ]; then menuentry_id_option="--id" else menuentry_id_option="" fi export menuentry_id_option if [ "${prev_saved_entry}" ]; then set saved_entry="${prev_saved_entry}" save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z "${boot_once}" ]; then saved_entry="${chosen}" save_env saved_entry fi } function load_video { if [ x$feature_all_video_module = xy ]; then insmod all_video else insmod efi_gop insmod efi_uga insmod ieee1275_fb insmod vbe insmod vga insmod video_bochs insmod video_cirrus fi } if [ x$feature_default_font_path = xy ] ; then font=unicode else insmod part_gpt insmod ext2 set root='hd0,gpt6' if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,gpt6 --hint-efi=hd0,gpt6 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,gpt6 5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 else search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 fi font="/usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2" fi if loadfont $font ; then set gfxmode=auto load_video insmod gfxterm set locale_dir=$prefix/locale set lang=it_IT insmod gettext fi terminal_output gfxterm if [ "${recordfail}" = 1 ] ; then set timeout=-1 else set timeout=5 fi ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### insmod part_gpt insmod ext2 set root='hd0,gpt6' if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,gpt6 --hint-efi=hd0,gpt6 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,gpt6 5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 else search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 fi insmod png if background_image /usr/share/images/desktop-base/joy-grub.png; then set color_normal=white/black set color_highlight=black/white else set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue fi ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### function gfxmode { set gfxpayload="${1}" } set linux_gfx_mode= export linux_gfx_mode menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-simple-5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924' { load_video insmod gzio insmod part_gpt insmod ext2 set root='hd0,gpt6' if [ x$feature_platform_search_hint = xy ]; then search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root --hint-bios=hd0,gpt6 --hint-efi=hd0,gpt6 --hint-baremetal=ahci0,gpt6 5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 else search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 fi echo'Caricamento Linux 3.14-2-amd64...' linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.14-2-amd64 root=UUID=5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924 ro i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 i915.semaphores=1 nohpet nmi_watchdog=0 init=/bin/systemd echo'Caricamento ramdisk iniziale...' initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.14-2-amd64 } submenu 'Opzioni avanzate per Debian GNU/Linux' $menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-advanced-5e07d851-95a4-4505-949e-7021fea40924' { menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, con Linux 3.14-2-amd64' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os $menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-3.14-2-amd64-advanced-5e07d851-95a4-450
