Bug#1064972: Remove fantasy alias for D050000L

2024-02-28 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: fonts-urw-base35
Version: 20200910-7

This is fixed upstream in
https://github.com/ArtifexSoftware/urw-base35-fonts/pull/46. Quoting from
that report:

The D05L font was marked as an alias for "fantasy" but shouldn't be. As
a result, if another "fantasy" font isn't installed with a higher priority,
D05L is used by some browsers (in my case Firefox, but not Chromium)
when a fantasy font is requested. This results in unreadable text.

Bug#1061427: dkms built modules may be compressed in a way unsupported by the kernel

2024-01-24 Thread Ari

Package: dkms
Version: 3.0.12-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

dkms compresses some of the packages it builds. I guess this depends on the
kernel config that it builds for.
With xz compression, it compresses it in a way that's not compatible with
kernel's xz. The difference seems to be the CRC:

file kernel/drivers/misc/isl29020.ko.xz: XZ compressed data, checksum CRC32

# mainline driver, works

file updates/dkms/ddcci.ko.xz: XZ compressed data, checksum CRC64 # dkms

driver, fails to load

I assigned the severity important because it seems like new debian kernels (6.7
from experimental) have this compression on by default. If the situation
remains as it is but goes to the more stable debians it will break for most
users of dkms

Bug#1043124: consider skipping trying to build on affected kernels?

2023-09-17 Thread Ari

Have you, maintainers of zfs, considered configuring the packages so that it
skips trying to build of affected kernels?
This would at least reduce the time of installing any packages drastically -
currently my system tries to build it for two kernels every time I install any
package, because the kernel packages fail the configuration stage.
Maybe with this approach it would be even feasible that the kernels'
installation state would not be failed for which compilation failed? After all,
the kernel installed correctly, but it's rather the zfs package that is broken.

During the first boot, the system displays an "out of memory" message (this

it presents two successive screens of a failure to load microcode message.
After the second message, the boot stops and the power button has to be
pressed. The OS doesn't reach login.

For some reason, I've have been able to reach login and to successfully login
on the second boot after my initial install and my re-install today.
(This current successful boot is running the 6.1.0-9-amd64 kernel but the
6.1.0-10-amd64 didn't boot minutes before.)

Bug#1025433: [Emc-developers] Bug#1025433: Bug#1025433: Copyright issue

2022-12-05 Thread Alec Ari
Both of these files are different, all authors are arguably correct. Paolo
doesn't work on LinuxCNC, he didn't write the one in LinuxCNC. The LinuxCNC one
is based off other work, and Paolo's as well.

My vote is on not a bug, not an issue.

At what point does a file become a new file? The file in LinuxCNC appears
to be a sub-set of an original file contributed to RTAI by Erwin Roll.

So who would be the correct copyright holder?  It is possibly not Paulo
either,

Bug#1012534: Description about not saving state across reboots is outdated

2022-06-08 Thread Ari Pollak

Version: 0.10.1-3
Severity: minor

The package description says:

Note that power-profiles-daemon does not save the currently active
profile across system restarts and will always start with the "balanced"
 profile selected.

However, I believe this paragraph can now be removed as of 0.9. From
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/hadess/power-profiles-daemon/-/blob/e83b4556bfd6a42fb9d969b8c5931dc8fc6de581/NEWS#L51

- Finally, the last used profile is now remembered across reboots.

Perhaps the upstream README.md can also be included in
/usr/share/doc/power-profiles-daemon, as it contains some useful
information.

Bug#991903: pcsx2: does not boot an iso if ran from gpu

2021-08-04 Thread Ari
Package: pcsx2
Version: 1.6.0+dfsg-1
Severity: important
Tags: newcomer
X-Debbugs-Cc: alaharon...@hotmail.com

Dear Maintainer,

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I started the program with `__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1
__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia PCSX2` as it says to do in the Nvidia Optimus
wiki page to start a program using the GPU on a laptop with Nvidia Optimus.
Next, I went into the menu and selected one of the boot iso options (I tried
restarting and choosing the other, but same result). I then selected an ISO and
ran it.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
A black screen that is supposed to load the game showed up, it did not load the
game. In the log, it printed `Error: GLLoader failed to get GL version`, a
dialog box came up saying `GS plugin failed to open. Your computer may have
insufficient resources, or incompatible hardware/drivers. Press Ok to go to the
Plugin Configuration Panel.` and then in the log it printed `(p) GS plugin
failed to open!(thread:MTGS)(thread:EE Core)`
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
It should just load the game normally.

Note that this problem does not occur when running the program without the GPU.
Note as well that this problem was posted in the upstream github at
https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/issues/3347 and solved with this commit
https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/commit/8816f4bf0d3d35a2d534885ff95e00ffc12a87a5
Should be feasible to just merge it into Debian's? I don't know how this works.
Not having gpu support tanks performance, pretty major issue. Thanks for
reading through this and thanks if you fix this!

I tried all versions of the firmware (by renaming the files in

I downgraded to linux-image-4.19.0-16-amd64 (firmware v38), and thought it

Bug#930532: xymon: imaps reports "unexpected service response"

On 17.6.2019 14.24, Christoph Berg wrote:

smtps has the same problem.

Looking at the history graphs, it appears it does random, 1 success
flukes on my system, with most of the time being in error mode. I
discovered this when I tried to silence the alarm for 999 days and some
time later it started sending me alarms again. Xymon runs inside a very

I tried it with couple of different valid IMAP commands, doesn't seem to
change the outcome. If SSL is removed, it works, with SSL it's just

Bug#930532: xymon: imaps reports "unexpected service response"

2019-06-14 Thread Ari Sovijarvi
Package: xymon
Version: 4.3.28-5
Severity: normal

After upgrading from Debian 9 to 10, Xymon has issues checking imaps service.
This
appears to relate to SSL somehow, as if I change the imaps definition in
protocols.cfg
to drop SSL and change port to non-SSL, it works as expected.

In the other end I have Dovecot with a valid certificate and I can connect to
with with
openssl's s_client without problems.

In short, this works:
[imaps]
   send "ABC123 LOGOUT\r\n"
   expect "* OK"
   options banner
   port 143

This does not:
[imaps]
   send "ABC123 LOGOUT\r\n"
   expect "* OK"
   options ssl,banner
   port 993

Dovecot shares the certificate with Apache, which provices web mail, SSL
connection to
Apache seems to work. Also, even when the imaps protocol test doesn't work, the
certificate
appears correctly in the sslcert-test in Xymon.

This does not seem to leave anything in any of the Xymon's log files.

Bug#895388: Symbol removal prevents upgrade of postgres 9.6 cluster with postgis columns

2018-04-10 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: libsfcgal1
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: serious

I have postgresql-9.6-postgis-2.3 installed (no longer in Debian
buster, but was in stretch, current stable). After upgrading libsfcgal1
and trying to use postgis on my existing Postgres 9.6 server, I get an
error when trying to access a table with a geography column:

ari@ari:~ % psql
ari=# \d+

That would be fine if I could upgrade the database to Postgres 10, since
the new postgresql-10-postgis-2.4 package doesn't depend on libsfcgal1,
but I can't do that with the missing symbol:

ari@ari:~ % sudo pg_upgradecluster 9.6 main

upgrade...

If I downgrade libsfcgal1, all of that works fine.

Bug#880663: Sometimes crashes on resuming from suspend

2017-11-03 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.26.1-3
Severity: important

After upgrading from 3.22 to 3.26, gnome-shell under wayland has started
crashing with some regularity when my laptop resumes from suspend, about
once every day or two (I suspend and resume much more often than that).
This is the backtrace I got from the coredump; it doesn't look particularly
useful to me, but maybe it does to you.

I don't think this is an important bug since I don't consider screenshots
to be a major part of gimp functionality. If you're using GNOME Shell,
there's a pretty high likelihood of also having gnome-screenshot, which
seems like a good enough workaround.

2016-05-10 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: debhelper
Version: 9.20160403

dh_gconf still adds gconf2 to ${misc:Depends}, but AFAICT that's a legacy
holdout and is no longer needed anymore. The gconf2 package uses triggers to
update its database with new schemas; if you install gconf2, it will
rebuild the database from scratch anyway. So for something like pidgin, which
adds URL handlers to gconf (not used by GNOME 3 anyway) but doesn't need gconf
for normal operation, that's just an extraneous dependency that just seems to
irritate certain users.

Hi,

I'm using gcc 5.2.1 on Ubuntu 15.10. Is it possible to check the compatibility
with this version of gcc? If not, is there gcc-6 available for Wily? I only
found a repository with gcc-6 for the next Ubuntu release:

Bug#810565: linux-image-4.3.0: Wifi adapter stops working after a few minutes: Intel Corporation Device 3165 (rev 81)

2016-01-09 Thread Ari Epstein
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.3.3-2~bpo8+1
Severity: normal
File: linux-image-4.3.0

Dear Maintainer,

Having difficulty with Intel Corporation Device 3165 (rev 81) dual band AC
wireless adapter. Adapter is detected and works for several minutes up to one
hour but then spontaneously fails. Failure can happen whether or not system
was suspended.

This is part of a new laptop just manufactured last month, so presume it is a
driver bug. I do not know how to go about diagnosing that further.

Wireless device is usable again after rebooting system.

Here is an extract of error messages appearing /var/log/messages when failure
occurs:

Bug#797182: pidgin: make a new release for gcc5 or/and libstdc++ transition

2015-08-28 Thread Ari Pollak
I'm not sure that there's anything I can/should do about this at the source
level. This is an ongoing library transition outside of Pidgin, and if
Pidgin needs to be rebuilt then there should be binary NMUs triggered by
the release team.

Bug#795188: missing debian/copyright

2015-08-11 Thread Ari Pollak

It is not sufficient to create such a copyright file while
 building the binary package.

Since when? The part of policy you quoted says the copyright file *should* be
in debian/copyright, not *must*.

 serious
is a severe violation of Debian policy (roughly, it violates a must or
required directive), or, in the package maintainer's or release manager's
opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release.

Ah, I see now. I missed the upstream patch in the original message.
Isn't that also something that would be taken care of by the GEGL
dependency though? If built with libgegl-dev 0.3.0, wouldn't gimp then
depend on libgegl-0.3-0 anyway, making the source patch redundant?

Bug#790867: New version available

2015-07-02 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: gnome-shell-pomodoro
Version: 0.10.3-1
Severity: serious

gnome-shell-pomodoro 0.10.3 dosn't work with gnome-shell 3.16. There is a
new version of gnome-shell-pomodoro available upstream that does.

Maybe the Debian package should also be updated to depend on versions of
gnome-shell less than the version after what's currently supported? So
in the current case, it would be gnome-shell ( 3.15).

Thanks!

Bug#784663: samba: Tdbsam fails with high ascii characters in user names

2015-05-07 Thread Ari Sovijarvi
Package: samba
Version: 2:4.1.17+dfsg-2
Severity: normal

After upgrading from Wheezy to Jessie Samba no longer accepted user logins.
Turns out the letter ä in user names makes Samba ignore a user in the user
database. After renaming my user it worked without problems. Wheezy's Samba
used the same database file without problems.

Bug#770659: WebRTC camera/microphone sharing does not work

2014-11-22 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: chromium
Version: 38.0.2125.101-3
Severity: normal

Starting with either chromium 37 or 38, WebRTC voice/video sharing sites
have stopped working, like Google Hangouts, talky.io, appear.in, etc.
The more open sites all say they can't get access to my camera and
microphone, and Hangouts just gives an equally unhelpful Couldn't start
the video call because of an error.
There was some mention in #748867 of Hangouts not working, but this is
even after I've put the API keys into /etc/chromium.d and everything
else seems to work fine.

Bug#765959: should ignore dpkg temporary files in /etc/chromium.d

2014-10-19 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: chromium

Currently, if you upgrade the chromium package and dpkg has added
some extra files to /etc/chromium.d (e.g. with .dpkg-old, .dpkg-dist or
.dpkg-new extensions), /usr/bin/chromium will happily source those. It

failing to build with the system libgadu unless I manually specify

Bug#752680: Add ctrl:rwin_rctl

2014-06-25 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: xkb-data
Version: 2.12-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Apple keyboards, when the hid_apple kernel module is loaded with
swap_opt_cmd=1, have two modifier keys on the right side of the space bar:
Alt Win. Having a right-side windows key is not nearly as useful
as having a right-side control key, so the attached patch adds an option to swap
them. I couldn't figure out how to get this to work locally in a clean
fashion without modifying this package.

I also noticed that there were a bunch of missing ctrl: options from
rules/base, which seemed to prevent them from being used in setxkbmap
-option, so I fixed that too.

Bug#749346: Mention mono-mcs in README.Debian?

2014-05-26 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: keepass2
Version: 2.26+dfsg-2
Severity: minor

README.Debian mentions that plugins must be installed to
/usr/lib/keepass2. However, it seems that the mono-mcs package must also
be installed to use plugins, and the error message displayed when the
package is not installed is not super useful (something about the plugin
not being compatible with this version). A quick mention of the mono-mcs
package (besides in the Suggests) would be very useful.
