Bug#1064972: Remove fantasy alias for D050000L

2024-02-28 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: fonts-urw-base35
Version: 20200910-7

This is fixed upstream in
https://github.com/ArtifexSoftware/urw-base35-fonts/pull/46. Quoting from
that report:

The D05L font was marked as an alias for "fantasy" but shouldn't be. As
a result, if another "fantasy" font isn't installed with a higher priority,
D05L is used by some browsers (in my case Firefox, but not Chromium)
when a fantasy font is requested. This results in unreadable text.

Bug#1012534: Description about not saving state across reboots is outdated

2022-06-08 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: power-profiles-daemon
Version: 0.10.1-3
Severity: minor

The package description says:

Note that power-profiles-daemon does not save the currently active
profile across system restarts and will always start with the "balanced"
 profile selected.

However, I believe this paragraph can now be removed as of 0.9. From
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/hadess/power-profiles-daemon/-/blob/e83b4556bfd6a42fb9d969b8c5931dc8fc6de581/NEWS#L51
:

- Finally, the last used profile is now remembered across reboots.

Perhaps the upstream README.md can also be included in
/usr/share/doc/power-profiles-daemon, as it contains some useful
information.

Bug#1011427: Backport 15.0 to bullseye

2022-05-22 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 14.2-2

Would it be possible to build the latest pulseaudio version for
bullseye-backports? I think it would be very useful for the improved
Bluetooth codec support, especially for headsets. I can try to help, but
I'm not currently familiar with the pulseaudio source.

Bug#895388: Symbol removal prevents upgrade of postgres 9.6 cluster with postgis columns

2018-04-10 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: libsfcgal1
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: serious

I have postgresql-9.6-postgis-2.3 installed (no longer in Debian
buster, but was in stretch, current stable). After upgrading libsfcgal1
and trying to use postgis on my existing Postgres 9.6 server, I get an
error when trying to access a table with a geography column:

ari@ari:~ % psql
ari=# \d+

ERROR: could not load library

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSFCGAL.so.1: undefined symbol:

That would be fine if I could upgrade the database to Postgres 10, since
the new postgresql-10-postgis-2.4 package doesn't depend on libsfcgal1,
but I can't do that with the missing symbol:

ari@ari:~ % sudo pg_upgradecluster 9.6 main

upgrade...

Restarting old cluster with restricted
connections...

If I downgrade libsfcgal1, all of that works fine.

After upgrading from 3.22 to 3.26, gnome-shell under wayland has started

This is the backtrace I got from the coredump; it doesn't look particularly
useful to me, but maybe it does to you.

I don't think this is an important bug since I don't consider screenshots
to be a major part of gimp functionality. If you're using GNOME Shell,
there's a pretty high likelihood of also having gnome-screenshot, which
seems like a good enough workaround.

Also, it appears mouse support isn't currently working under tmux. Not sure if
that's related.

2016-05-10 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: debhelper
Version: 9.20160403
Severity: wishlist

dh_gconf still adds gconf2 to ${misc:Depends}, but AFAICT that's a legacy
holdout and is no longer needed anymore. The gconf2 package uses triggers to
update its database with new schemas; if you install gconf2, it will
rebuild the database from scratch anyway. So for something like pidgin, which
adds URL handlers to gconf (not used by GNOME 3 anyway) but doesn't need gconf
for normal operation, that's just an extraneous dependency that just seems to
irritate certain users.

Bug#816963: Does not switch back to HDMI after port goes away & comes back

2016-03-06 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 8.0-1
Severity: normal

After upgrading to pulseaudio 8.0, whenever my HDMI audio port would go
away (like during display suspend), it would not automatically switch

new version of gnome-shell-pomodoro available upstream that does.

Maybe the Debian package should also be updated to depend on versions of

udging from all the messages in the log about JACK, my first inclination
would be to purge all JACK-related packages from your system, and make sure
your gstreamer and pulseaudio settings don't point to JACK. If you don't

Bug#770659: WebRTC camera/microphone sharing does not work

2014-11-22 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: chromium
Version: 38.0.2125.101-3
Severity: normal

Starting with either chromium 37 or 38, WebRTC voice/video sharing sites
have stopped working, like Google Hangouts, talky.io, appear.in, etc.
The more open sites all say they can't get access to my camera and
microphone, and Hangouts just gives an equally unhelpful Couldn't start
the video call because of an error.
There was some mention in #748867 of Hangouts not working, but this is
even after I've put the API keys into /etc/chromium.d and everything
else seems to work fine.

Bug#765959: should ignore dpkg temporary files in /etc/chromium.d

2014-10-19 Thread Ari Pollak

Currently, if you upgrade the chromium package and dpkg has added
some extra files to /etc/chromium.d (e.g. with .dpkg-old, .dpkg-dist or

failing to build with the system libgadu unless I manually specify
libgnutls-dev as a build dependency.

Bug#752680: Add ctrl:rwin_rctl

2014-06-25 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: xkb-data
Version: 2.12-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Apple keyboards, when the hid_apple kernel module is loaded with
swap_opt_cmd=1, have two modifier keys on the right side of the space bar:
Alt Win. Having a right-side windows key is not nearly as useful
as having a right-side control key, so the attached patch adds an option to swap
them. I couldn't figure out how to get this to work locally in a clean
fashion without modifying this package.

I also noticed that there were a bunch of missing ctrl: options from
rules/base, which seemed to prevent them from being used in setxkbmap
-option, so I fixed that too.

Bug#749346: Mention mono-mcs in README.Debian?

2014-05-26 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: keepass2
Version: 2.26+dfsg-2
Severity: minor

README.Debian mentions that plugins must be installed to
/usr/lib/keepass2. However, it seems that the mono-mcs package must also
be installed to use plugins, and the error message displayed when the
package is not installed is not super useful (something about the plugin
not being compatible with this version). A quick mention of the mono-mcs
package (besides in the Suggests) would be very useful.

Bug#749359: Won't connect to HTTPS in default configuration

2014-05-26 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: keepass2
Version: 2.26+dfsg-2
Severity: normal

After installing just the keepass2 package, keepass2 won't connect to
any HTTPS sites. Apparently this is because Mono doesn't have any root
SSL certificates by default. Installing mono-devel and running mozroots
as described here: http://sourceforge.net/p/keepass/bugs/1147/ fixes the
problem. mono-devel is a monster package so it probably shouldn't be
installed by default, but maybe this workaround should at least be mentioned in
README.Debian, unless there's another way.

Bug#733846: pidgin: crash on startup: illegal hardware instruction / invalid opcode

It seems unlikely that pidgin is at fault here, given that it hasn't
been updated in almost a year. Do you happen to have
gstreamer0.10-buzztard installed? Does this still happen if you remove it?

Bug#550891: It is a libfarstream packaging bug

2013-12-07 Thread Ari Pollak
Thanks for the patch. For the patch to the libpurple source, can you try
to get it merged with pidgin upstream? I don't really trust myself to
maintain a far-reaching patch that I didn't write, since I am not an
expert on the upstream source.
As far as the patch to Debian control files, unfortunately I can't use
that as-is because it will only apply to the auto-generated version,
which will change with any new build. Can you create a patch that I can
apply against the full extracted debian source (e.g. apt-get source
pidgin), and create a separate bug for farstream? Ideally it will obtain
the correct dependency versions automatically (probably via
debian/rules) instead of hardcoding them in the control file.

- Ari

I don't think this bug has actually been fixed. If the culmus package
used to provide the files in question, simply removing it from the
package won't remove it from the system - that has to be done in a
maintainer script (being careful to only remove it if it hasn't changed).

The description for searhorse just says GNOME front end for GnuPG but
it has become much more than that. From the Seahorse website:

Seahorse is a GNOME application for managing encryption keys and
passwords in the GNOME Keyring. There's also a collection of plugins that
integrate seahorse with nautilus, gedit and other places for encryption,

With seahorse you can...

* Manage your keys and keyring.
* Synchronize your keys and your keyring with key servers.
* Sign keys and publish.
* Cache your passphrase so you don't have to keep typing it.
* Backup your keys and keyring.
* Add an image in any GDK supported format as a OpenGPG photo ID.
* Create SSH keys, configure them, cache them.

Bug#694546: linux-image-3.6-trunk-amd64: Apple Bluetooth Keyboard Fn key not working by default

2012-11-27 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: src:linux

Severity: normal

If I don't make any changes to my /etc/modules and pair an Apple
Bluetooth Keyboard with my machine, the keyboard only seems to get
recognized as a generic device (with the hid-generic driver) (as you can
see in dmesg). If I unload both hid-apple and
hid-generic and then load hid-apple before hid-generic, it gets
recognized correctly by the hid-apple driver and I can use the Fn key
successfully.
