Bug#983495: linux-image-amd64: Please enable ee1004 module
Package: linux-image-amd64 Version: 5.10.13-1 Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-Cc: ar...@opmeer.net Dear Maintainer, Could you please enable the 'ee1004' module setting in the default kernel build? Justification: Debian ships the 'i2c-tools' package which contains the 'decode-dimms' user program. Its manpage states: the tool requires a kernel module to be loaded: eeprom, at24 or ee1004 (for DDR4 SDRAM.) Running it with the 'eeprom' module loaded gives this result: WARNING: /sys/bus/i2c/drivers/eeprom/0-0052/eeprom is smaller than expected WARNING: Fewer data bytes available (256) than needed (384) HINT: You should be using the ee1004 driver instead of the eeprom driver However: $ grep -A 1 -B 9 -i ee1004 /boot/config-5.10.0-3-amd64 # EEPROM support # CONFIG_EEPROM_AT24=m CONFIG_EEPROM_AT25=m CONFIG_EEPROM_LEGACY=m CONFIG_EEPROM_MAX6875=m CONFIG_EEPROM_93CX6=m # CONFIG_EEPROM_93XX46 is not set # CONFIG_EEPROM_IDT_89HPESX is not set # CONFIG_EEPROM_EE1004 is not set # end of EEPROM support As you can see the CONFIG_EEPROM_EE1004 option is not set. Could this be included in future kernel builds? Bug#864830: mysql-server-5.7: Logrotate config is not quiet causing cron to send email
Package: mysql-server-5.7 Version: 5.7.18-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, The logrotate config of mysql-server contains this test: if killall -q -s0 -umysql mysqld; then However killall unconditionally emits the output "sending signal 0 to procs". See this source line: 975 printf("sending signal %d to procs\n", sig_num); Because lograte is started from the cron.daily cronjob this extra output causes cron to send email to root. Bug#613107: epiphany-browser: Add http and https schemes to supported mimetypes in epiphany.desktop file
Package: epiphany-browser Version: 2.30.6-1 Severity: wishlist Modern Gnome desktops look at the scheme of a URL (i.e the http:// part) first to determine with which application to open it. When one has multiple browsers installed and only one of them supports said scheme it will always be used to open the URL. This happens when one ctrl-clicks on a URL in gnome-terminal or uses a utility like gvfs-open (or even xdg-open which uses gvfs-open under water). In my case I have iceweasel, epiphany and chromium installed. Only chromium currently indicates in its desktop files that it knows how to handle http schemes. And although I have made iceweasel my default browser when I ctrl-click on a URL in gnome-terminal it will always be opened with chromium. However, as soon as I added the schemes to the iceweasel.desktop file and ran update-desktop-database to regenerate the mimeinfo.cache file this changed. Now when I ctrl-click on a URL in gnome-terminal both chromium and iceweasel will be considered for opening the URL and somewhere deep in the bowels of Gnome it is discovered that I have made iceweasel my default browser and hence it opens the URL in iceweasel instead of chromium. Bug#613109: Add http and https schemes to supported mimetypes in iceweasel.desktop file
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.6.13-2 Severity: wishlist Modern Gnome desktops look at the scheme of a URL (i.e the http:// part) first to determine with which application to open it. In short exactly the behaviour I want... :) To accomplish this I made the following changes: --- iceweasel.desktop.ORIG 2011-02-12 21:09:14.0 +0100 +++ iceweasel.desktop 2011-02-12 21:11:00.0 +0100 @@ -99,6 +99,6 @@ X-MultipleArgs=false Type=Application Icon=iceweasel Categories=Network;WebBrowser; -MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png; +MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https; StartupWMClass=Firefox-bin StartupNotify=true Could you please add these changes to the iceweasel.desktop file to have it considered on even footing with chromium? The programs that have errors are most probably the ones you defined with a focr_bin_helper line in the config file, right? Could it be that FuzzyOcr doesn't work with Perl 5.10? No, the current version of SpamAssassin uses Perl's taint mode to mark config data as possibly dangerous. The FuzzyOcr config file is read with the SpamAssassin parser. This causes the names of the helper programs you defined to be considered as tainted data. And when running in taint mode, Perl will not execute external programs when it derives the name from a tainted variable. I hacked around this by explicitly untainting the data from focr_bin_helper and focr_bin_progname config entries by using the included patch. At the moment this is sufficient to have FuzzyOcr running without errors on my system, but I might have missed some corner cases. The inluded patch should probably also be reviewed for security implications. The attached patch works around this problem by explicitly 'untainting' the FuzzyOcr logfile. Now the FuzzyOcr plugin will work again and sa-compile will run to its completion. Bug#548439: Inotify support breaks tail -F on syslog
Since coreutils 7.5 tail uses inotify. However it is not capable to follow the sequence of file operations that happen when /var/log/syslog is rotated by its daily cron job. This means that 'tail -F /var/log/syslog' will stop producing output as soon as the file is rotated. Let me give a demonstration. Open two terminal windows and enter the following commands: Terminal 1 Terminal 2 -- -- echo line 1 somefile tail -F somefile echo line 2 somefile savelog -m 640 -c 7 somefile echo line 3 somefile echo line 4 somefile This results in the following output from the tail command: line 1 line 2 tail: `somefile' has been replaced; following end of new file Notice that tail fails to follow the newly created somefile and never shows lines 3 and 4. That this is caused by the new inotify code can be demonstrated by using the latest git checkout of coreutils. This version still fails the above scenario, but by supplying the undocumented '---disable-inotify' flag the inotify code is disabled and the old polling behaviour is used. This old behaviour can cope with the logrotate sequence and will correctly show the contents of the new file. Could you use this information to file a bug report for GNU coreutils to have the inotify implementation of tail fixed? In the meantime should the Debian version of tail maybe be build without inotify support because it no longer functions the way that users have come to expect? Bug#550311: slant: Please make shading of filled squares configurable
Package: sgt-puzzles Version: 8605-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Recently a change was made to slant that provides shading of filled squares. However I find that the resulting checkerboard pattern of filled and non-filled squares is distracting, preventing me from easily seeing the bigger structures and making it harder to determine a next move. Therefore I would like to suggest to apply one of the two attached patches. The first and simplest one adds an environment variable to override the game default and disable shading of filled squares. The second is a bit more advanced and also allows runtime toggling of the shading by clicking the middle mouse button or pressing the S or F key. Package: sgt-puzzles Version: 8541-1 Severity: minor Tags: patch Modal dialogs from sgt-puzzles (like Game-Specific, Game-Random Seed, Type-Custom and Help-About) are resizable. Bug#519817: Quotes around $PWD does not work
Notice how in the orignal patch: +args=--start --chdir $PWD --nicelevel $nice --quiet --oknodo there are no quotes (') around $PWD. Debian version 3.2-21 of init-functions does includes these quotes. However start-stop-daemon does not understand quotes in the argument to --chdir. Bug#496685: gnome-screensaver: does not honour current X gamma
Package: gnome-screensaver Version: 2.22.2-1 Severity: minor Currently gnome-screensavers blank screen theme unfades to the gamma setting it reads at program startup time (normally the start of your GNOME session). However if the user in the mean time altered the X gamma with a utility like xgamma this new setting will not be honoured. Thus causing the X gamma setting to be reset everytime the screensaver kicks in and subsequently unfades. It would be nice if gnome-screensaver could be modified to read the current X gamma setting just prior to blanking the screen, so it can unfade to the setting the user is expecting and not some old value. Bug#488213: groff-base: Escaped version of apostroph (\') does not display in ISO-8859-15 locale
Package: groff-base Version: 1.18.1.1-20 Severity: normal There are manpages that use \' (the escaped version of the apostroph) to get pretty quotes around words. However \' maps to the acute accent which is not present in ISO-8859-15 (and some other LatinX variants). Thus the next command in the pipeline 'iconv -c -f ISO-8859-1 -t ISO-8859-15' happily strips out those characters. Which gives some interesting results when this happens to be in a piece of text that must be rendered bold. On the terminal this is accomplished by using overstriking meaning every character is printed twice with a backspace in between. However when some characters are stripped out by iconv there are stray backspaces left that eat away the remaining text! Example: env LC_ALL=en_US.ISO-8859-15 man smartd.conf and see the explanation for the -l option. Notice how ...by using the '-t short' and '-t long' options... gets truncated to ...by using the-t shor and-t lon options... Clearly not a very desirable result. Maybe a new mdoc.local rule can be added like so: . if '\*[.T]'latin1' \ .char \' \N'39' to always map the \' (escaped apostroph) back to the single ' (apostroph) for the latin1 output device. For UTF8 locales the pretty quotes remain intact. For the ascii output device the escaped apostrophs already get mapped back to the single ones. The one that we want to display in the ascii(7) man page. `, ', - etc. yield 'pretty' quotes, dashes, etc. Life would sure be easier when every character would just print as itself and people wanting pretty quotes should use escaped versions to clearly state their intent... :) Arjan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#485990: ascii(7): Apostroph is accent in UTF-8 environment
Looking at the man page I see that the escaped version of some characters are used. \e for \ (which won't work when the escape character is redefined) \_ for _ what is that non-printable, zero width character doing there? \` for ` but the escaped version maps to the grave accent \' for ' but the escaped version maps to the acute accent \- for - why? we want the real minus character, not some hyphen As UTF8 and all the ISO-8859-x fonts have the standard ASCII character set at the beginning, why not use the real ASCII characters in this man page? After all, it is about the ASCII set now how you could pretty format that on some output device. Arjan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#414092: airport-utils: Tools start and quit immediately without working
Package: airport-utils Version: 1-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable All of the aiport-utils tools don't seem to be working anymore. They start up and immediately stop without any error. Trying to run the tools with java -jar sometool.jar gives the same result. Disk rattling, program starting, but then nothing and you're returned to the shell prompt without a workable tool. Is there maybe some mysterious incompatibility problem between the Sun 6 JRE and the airport utils? Bug#412558: schism: Schism crashes with floating point exception on preferences menu
Package: schism Version: 1:0.5rc1-1 Severity: normal How to reproduce: start schism, press enter to continue, press Shift-F5. The crash has something to do with the way the Debian version is built and uses Alsa for sound. If you start schism with the -a nosound option, you can get to the preferences screen without any trouble. I believe the problem is in the function preferences_set_page in schism/page_preferences.c where lim in the division can be zero when the mixer_get_max_volume function does not succeed. I tried building a local debug version of the Debian source to investigate further but I cannot reproduce the bug. Apparently rebuilding with my local (newer?) versions of gcc and libraries is enough to make things work. Maybe a rebuild is all it takes to fix the Debian version too? On another note could you read the part on USE_DLTRICK_ALSA in sys/alsa/midi-alsa.c and find out whether Debian needs this dl-trickery? I believe the Debian version of libSDL is linked to libasound. Unfortunately the --enable-alsadltrick option of the configure script seems to be removed or is broken so building always uses the -DUSE_DLTRICK_ALSA option without a way of turning it off. Bug#327102: gnome-games: AisleRiot redraws to blank window at startup
Package: gnome-games Version: 1:2.10.1-5.1 Severity: normal When starting a new game of AisleRiot the window will show the card layout of the game for a fraction of a second and then redraw to a blank grey window. Forcing a redraw by resizing the window, clicking on a card (indicated by the hand shaped pointer) or pressing ctrl-r will restore the normal view and the game will continue to work as expected.
