Apparently as of kernel 5.0, all keys picked up from uefi are put in the .platform keyring, which are not trusted by kernel to be used for module signing. This makes it impossible to insmod third party modules when secure boot is enabled using the method described in (https://wiki.debian.org/SecureBoot). This problem was discussed in (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1701096) and a patch was submitted to trust .platform keyring for module signing.
