Bug#793757: sasl2-bin: The /etc/sasldb2 file could not be upgraded to the new database format
Package: sasl2-bin Version: 2.1.26.dfsg1-13 Severity: normal Hello Roberto, I'm upgrading from wheezy to jessie with sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. That failed with the following error message: Configuring sasl2-bin - Failed to upgrade /etc/sasldb2 The /etc/sasldb2 file could not be upgraded to the new database format. This is a fatal error and will cause the package installation to fail. The configuration process will attempt to restore the backup of this file to its original location. Please eliminate all possible reasons that might lead to this failure, then try to configure this package again. After reading #716723, I've tried re-creating the database from scratch: sudo db4.6_dump /etc/sasldb2 sasldb2.dump sudo rm /etc/sasldb2 sudo db5.1_load /etc/sasldb2 sasldb2.dump sudo chgrp sasl /etc/sasldb2 sudo chmod 660 /etc/sasldb2 That didn't help, sudo apt-get -f install still failed. Then I added #!/bin/sh -x to /var/lib/dpkg/info/sasl2-bin.postinst and ran sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/sasl2-bin.postinst configure 2.1.25.dfsg1-6+deb7u1. That resulted, among others, in the following: + db5.3_upgrade /etc/sasldb2 + db_input high cyrus-sasl2/upgrade-sasldb2-failed Running sudo db5.3_upgrade /etc/sasldb2 manually resulted in: sudo: db5.3_upgrade: command not found So, I've installed db5.3-util, and postinst worked fine. Bug#343976: History file is saved with incorrect size
Hello, The problem seems to have changed with 3.2-4 from lenny and 4.0 from gnu.org. * With etch, unsetting HISTSIZE and HISTFILESIZE in ~/.bashrc used to work -- the whole history was being saved. Now, the file is truncated to 500 lines on startup. It's possible to workaround this issue by setting both variables to 2147483647. * I could find the limit in the advanced scripting guide only after I guessed the number. Perhaps this could be documented in the man page. * With both variables set to 2147483648 and ~/.bash_history containing some 166K lines, new bash processes hang consuming 100% of CPU time. I'd expect either support for the number, or an error message that it isn't supported. If yes, will this happen automatically, or does someone need to do something? * When a newer compiler package is available for a distribution, is everything rebuilt with it? * Are the package versions of everything bumped? Their sources have not been changed, but the binaries built with the (now fixed) compiler have. How is it ensured that users get the new binaries? I've looked into the Reference, the Policy Manual, the Developer's Reference, the New Maintainer's Guide, and Google, but couldn't find anything even about dak deployment on the Debian servers. Bug#304887: mc doesn't react on keystrokes during ssh file transfers
Aha, there's an update on this! Patrick, the background feature is interesting. However, it doesn't replace the ability to control the process. I usually want things to be on the foreground, but if I see that I'm copying a wrong 2-GiB file, I'd like to be able to abort it, which I can't. Bug#484488: mc: special path names work also on the filesystem
Package: mc Version: 2:4.6.2~git20080311-1 Severity: normal Hello Patrick, To reproduce: ln -s [EMAIL PROTECTED]:2 .#a The first directory read in that directory results in one of the following error messages: Can't open /dev/fd0: No such device or address Cannot initialize 'A:' Or: Can't exec mdir: No such file or directory at /usr/share/mc/extfs/a line 80. readline() on closed filehandle FILE at /usr/share/mc/extfs/a line 81. After that, .#a is shown as a directory. I'm not sure whether this is intended, but I'd definitely like to see it as a symlink as usual. IMHO, special path names like /#a should only work on the mc sub-shell command line and not on the filesystem. Bug#483922: debmirror: cache mirror directory contents
Package: debmirror Version: 20070124-0fix387686 Severity: wishlist Hello Goswin, I'm maintaining a number of cascading d.o mirrors (three levels, not including d.o) and use debmirror often to synchronize them between the cron times. Fully scanning the local mirror consumes much time (many minutes). It would be nice to have an option to cache all directory entry states (such as, perhaps, pool/main/z/zabbix/zabbix-agent_1.1.4-10etch1_alpha.deb: ok, pool/main/z/zabbix/zabbix-agent_1.1.4-10_m68k.deb: incomplete) and to trust that the mirror is consistent with this cache. Bug#327513: #327513,openoffice.org: override file type
Hello Lior, On Thu, Jul 19, 2007 at 12:12:48AM +0300, Lior Kaplan wrote: File - Open Change File Type to Text CSV (*.csv;*.txt;*.xls) (this is an option in the list. Then enter the file you want to open (or give some rule like *.do, and select the file from the list). See attached file. And viola - Text Import wizard. Wow, neat workaround, thanks! However, I usually specify file names on the command line since locating and pasting the name is much faster than clicking and scrolling in the file open dialog. I see a number of possible solutions. A command line option to force the Text Import wizard would do, for example. Or, I find it very frustrating that oocalc passwd.do silently opens oowriter. The single office vision is ok in the File - Open dialog, where one can specify the type, or when started as, e.g., ooo-wrapper. But if I execute oocalc, I (and probably most other users) expect oocalc to be executed. So, as the first step, oocalc could, if started as oocalc with a file that is not obviously a spreadsheet, bring the Text Import wizard. That would help also the users who double-click the file in a file manager. After that is implemented, functionality to override the file type and open another office tool could be added (but I personally don't need it). Yes, thanks for the tip! Should this be considered a request for xargs to work around whatever causes it to fail to do what's intended when sudo is involved? This is not what I intended to achieve. I wanted that sudo worked with the recent findutils versions OOTB. With -s, we can set the severity of this bug to wishlist. I understand that if a program doesn't support an unlimited number of arguments (so that sizeof int, the kernel, and perhaps the libc are the only limitation), then setting any defaults is a horse race with other tools. If upstream says they won't do that, we'd just tag the bug as wontfix and close it, but I don't think it makes sense to work around every program in xargs.
