Bug#722522: Please update granite from upstream

2013-09-11 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Source: granite
Version: 0.1.0+dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist

Debian Experimental still contains version 0.1.0 of this package, while
upstream is at 0.2.3.

There are API changes in the new release, so an update will ensure that
future developers build on the new API. Copyright issues that required a
DFSG repack of granite 0.1.0 have been resolved.

If you need assistance in updating this package, I'm willing to help.

Bug#712937: RFA: olive

2013-06-20 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

This package has been unmaintained on the upstream end for a long while.
I expected to take over it as an upstream maintainer in addition to
being the debian maintainer, but I wasn't able to commit to it due to
lack of time.

Hence, I'm putting it up for adoption.

2013-06-20 Thread Bilal Akhtar
It's already set to >=8.1.3 which is the lowest version providing a compat
level of 9. Lintian docs:

> Note if you are using a compat level, which is marked as experimental,
such as compat 9 in debhelper 8.1.3, then please override this tag.

Anyway, I changed the version to 9 now that version 9 of debhelper is
ubiquitous

Bug#686766: Is it time to remove dmedia?

2012-09-09 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Hi Luca,

Newer versions of dmedia depend on libraries which are not a part of
Debian (yet), so it makes sense to remove dmedia from the archive
right now, and then add it later on when the novacut stack is complete
(and the required libraries are in place). I chatted with upstream
too, and they didn't have any objections to a package removal.
So, feel free to go ahead and file a removal request. Do we need the
entire team's consent for that?

Bilal Akhtar.

How is that an issue? The admin user could install the ones which he
wants the users to use.

We could create a metapackage gnome-shell-extensions-all which depends
on each individual extension package.

That's what I had planned. Forgot to mention it in the ITP, sorry for
the confusion. Yes, I will place this under pkg-gnome.

Yes, there sure is no extension manager, but the user can look up
extensions in looking glass. We would like to remain close to upstream
for this one, so its okay to ship extensions in different binary
packages generated by the same source. The user can install the
extensions which he/she likes.

As I have mentioned already, one binary package for each extension
should suffice for now. We can plan those later.

Thoughts?

The GNOME Shell redefines user interactions with the GNOME desktop. In
particular, it offers new paradigms for launching applications,
accessing documents, and organizing open windows in GNOME. Later, it
will introduce a new applets eco-system and offer new solutions for
other desktop features, such as notifications and contacts management.
The GNOME Shell is intended to replace functions handled by the GNOME
Panel and by the window manager in previous versions of GNOME. The GNOME
Shell has rich visual effects enabled by new graphical technologies.

Bug#620915: FTBFS due to Audacious

2011-05-02 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Hello All,

Audacious maintainer here.

Audacious 2.4.0 and onwards no longer support symbols listed in the
audacious/util.h and output.h files. Its an upstream deprecation change,
and I'd recommend the package maintainers of all affected applications
to contact the upstreams of their packages on a solution. Most of the
affected packages have newer upstream versions available which fix the
issue, so maintainers could consider an upgrade.

Thanks,

Ah, no. I had understood what you meant. I was just asking a completely
unrelated question. I am assuming you want to go ahead being the
maintainer. So in that case I'll review the package myself tomorrow and
point a sponsor at your package so that it gets in.

The charset detection issues seem to be handled well by upstream. Hence,
I wouldn't fiddle around with that as long as it works well.

The primary reason why I felt this to be good was that I have a need for
it in my package: audacious. Audacious upstream (also part of atheme)
uses libguess. We have it disabled in the debian package for now. I
wanted to enable that. Hence I wanted to maintain this package.
Moreover, I am quite good in maintaining shared libs, and I just
completed the packaging fully lintian-clean, with symbols control files,
etc etc.

So if you feel doubtful about its future in the case of charset
detection, feel free to hand over the ITP to me and I'll get the package
into the NEW queue within a week.

If not, then just mention that you are willing to continue with your ITP
and I'll point you out to a few sponsors.

LibGuess is a high-speed character-set detection library. LibGuess
employs discrete-finite automata to deduce the character set of the
input buffer. The advantage of this is that all character sets can
be checked in parallel, and quickly. Internally, LibGuess passes a
byte to each DFA on the same pass, meaning that the winning character
set can be deduced as efficiently as possible. LibGuess is fully
reentrant, using only local stack memory for DFA operations.

LibOAuth works well with identi.ca (both of them use the same OAuth 1.0
spec) it isn't introducing a regression. The problem is with BTI, which
is using the twitter OAuth links for identi.ca . It is an easy fix,
which gregor will commit soon.

It isn't any regression or something. The library works well with
Twitter and the same case is with Identi.ca.

happen early is because I want it to enter squeeze quite some time
before release so that we have a safe margin.

Thanks!

Bilal Akhtar.

Bug#601971: Sorry for the late reply

2010-11-04 Thread Bilal Akhtar
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

> What are the other clients that may use liboauth? Is bti the only one?

gTwitter and twitux (both Twitter clients in C) needed this library
originally, but due to an inactive upstream, and due to no answer from
the maintainers on bugs #591640 and #589360 (possibly due to the late
packaging of liboauth, which was my fault) , the packages were removed
recently from Debian.

These two (along with BTI) were also the only clients I thought of when
I worked on packaging liboauth back in May.

However, liboauth can also be used for other purposes (like connecting
to launchpad.net , Identi.ca , and facebook) and probably application
developers using Squeeze may benefit from this library to build their
own applications.

Thanks for the unblock!

Bilal Akhtar.

Bug#601971: unblock: liboauth/0.9.1-1

2010-10-31 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package liboauth

This package is blocking major bugs in twitter clients, an example of such a
bug is bug #588235 .
Twitter recently dropped support for Basic Auth and now all twitter clients are
forced to use OAuth to
authenticate to Twitter. libOAuth is the ONLY OAuth 1.0 library written in C,
and hence all Twitter clients
written in C need this.
Without this package, BTI and other twitter clients will not function in
squeeze, as they would not be able
to authenticate with Twitter.

libOAuth was accepted very recently into Debian Unstable, and that is why it
isn't in squeeze yet.

unblock liboauth/0.9.1-1

Thanks Gregor and Tom for telling me about the new upstream version and
helping me in packaging. I have a new package ready for download from
mentors.debian.net . I have tested it completely and cleaned out all
lintian errors that were fixable, now only an X and an I tag is
remaining.

Bug#581601: ITP: liboauth -- C library for implementing oAuth 1.0 specification

2010-08-18 Thread Bilal Akhtar
The problem is, upstream has pushed a version of liboauth from which
there is some strange symbols problem, in which dpkg-shlibdeps is unable
to find the dependencies for the package. The workaround for this is to
hard-code the deps, which the DDs don't find fit. So, the packaging is
right now in a standstill. I will try packaging again today, if it works
then I will catch up here and on -mentors.

Bug#592056: No longer in Debian

2010-08-07 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Sorry, I submitted this bug by mistake. This package is no longer in
Debian, I suppose.

Bug#592056: acidrip: Package description is confusing

2010-08-07 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Package: acidrip
Severity: minor

Current:
"AcidRip is a Gtk2::Perl application for ripping and encoding DVD's. It neatly
wraps MPlayer and MEncoder, which I think is pretty handy, seeing as MPlayer is
by far the best bit of video playing kit around for Linux. As well as creating
a simple Graphical Interface for those scared of getting down and dirty with
MEncoders command line interface, It also automates the process in a number of
ways:
- Parses DVD into contents tree
- Finds longest title
- Calculate video bitrate for given filesize
- Finds black bands and crops them
- Gives suggestions for improved performance"

Should be:
AcidRip is a tool to rip and encode DVD's. Using a simple interface it provides
access to advanced features and it has automated features like cropping black
bands and suggestions for improved performance.

Bug#589155: mailman: move web interface to a separate package

2010-07-15 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Package: mailman
Severity: wishlist

As requested on launchpad bug #547249 ( http://edge.launchpad.net/bugs/547249 )
, it would be better to split the mailman source package into 2 binary
packages, so that people who need just the mailing list manager and not the
cumbersome web interface requiring Apache, can install and use Mailman.
