Bug#326853: Adding information which seems to confirm the bug

2005-09-06 Thread Bob Alexander
After backing up the data I booted off a Gentoo 2005.1 LiveCD and used
its LVM (2.01.05 2004-04-04) to resize my LV with SUCCESS !!

I would think this confirms a bug is into the version in Debian sid.

TIA

Bob Alexander

I want to PURGE revelation but this is not possible as the OP has
already noted.

Also because of this apt-get -f install wants to install a number of

Bug#302564: kernel-package: silent? build error when run as normal user

2005-04-01 Thread Bob Alexander
Package: kernel-package
Version: 8.129
Severity: normal
Dear Manoj,
I am trying to debug a condition in which one out of tree kernel is not
build (madwifi) being entirely skipped. Will follow when more data is
available.
During this data collection I have dicovered a potential problem.
I run make-kpkg as a normal user (bob belonging to most groups including
src). As you know the default for a normal user in Debian is not to haev
the /sbin and /usr/sbin in their path and therefore user bob cannot
issue the depmod command and even if it would find it it would not have
write access to the /lib/modules dirs:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /sbin/depmod
FATAL: Could not open
/lib/modules/2.6.11.4T40237392G-RJA/modules.dep.temp for writing:

at the end of a kernel compilation with the following syntax:
time fakeroot make-kpkg kernel_image modules_image 1build.out

I find the following line in build.err (with some lines around for
context):
sound/core/init.c:772: warning: `pm_register' is deprecated (declared at
include/linux/pm.h:106)
/bin/sh: depmod: command not found -* this is for you :)

I know my prob determn. is far from perfect but maybe you will still
make some sense out of it.
As always thank you from my heart for the time, energy and skills you
put into our beloved distro.

2005-03-22 Thread Bob Alexander
Dear Sjoerd,
udev creates a /dev/sda, /dev/sda1 nodes and my my local rule also a
/dev/usbkey and /dev/usbkey1 symlinks but they do not get mounted
automatically.
/etc/fstab contains the lines
/dev/sda1/backupvfat
rw,user,gid=1000,uid=1000,noauto 0 0
/dev/usbkey1 /media/usbkey vfat
rw,user,gid=1000,uid=1000,noauto 0 0

which enable manual mounting without problems.
usbkey also does not get mounted if inserted before booting. must always
mount manually.
Please feel free to ask for any further data to understand if it's my
fault (some misconfiguration) or a buggy
Take care and thank you 1000Kg for your work for all of us Debian
aficionados.
Bob
PS Before posting bug tried solving on debian-user and gnome-utopia.

Good Morning Sjoerd, hope you managed to sleep more than my kids let me :)
here is tail -f (hope it makes sense to you and I am also appending the
output of syslog where you see what udev does.

Thank you and take care,
Bob
PS I am very very confused Joerd. For some reason this morning the udev
rule does not appear to be triggering and the /dev/usbkey* device
therefore not created. this is even though the memkey is the same of the
rule. I am therefore also appending the rule and the udevinfo.
