Bug#959793: SpamAssassin: (from @INC): No such class our at Plugin/PhishTag.pm line 28, near "our our"

2020-05-05 Thread Brent Clark
Package: SpamAssassin
Version: 3.4.2-1~deb9u3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

We are getting the following error message in our logs.
May 5 04:54:45 REMOVED_SERVER spamd[15267]: plugin: failed to parse plugin
(from @INC): No such class our at
/usr/share/perl5/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/PhishTag.pm line 28, near "our our"

Googling, this does appear to be an upstream issue, and was patched.
I.e. Compare lines 28.
https://metacpan.org/source/KMCGRAIL/Mail-SpamAssassin-3.4.2/lib/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/PhishTag.pm
https://metacpan.org/source/KMCGRAIL/Mail-SpamAssassin-3.4.3/lib/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/PhishTag.pm

Debian buster backports, does ship with 3.4.4-1, but where I work we only have
Stable available to us.

Reason for me reporting is that, with Debian, it will take a while before we
get to use 3.4.4.

Please will you consider patching 3.4.2.

Kind Regards
Brent Clark

Bug#930361: exim4: Further on to CVE-2019-10149

2019-06-11 Thread Brent Clark
Package: exim4
Version: 4.89-2+deb9u4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

This is just a FYI and I sure hope its nothing.

In light of CVE-2019-10149

What I did was build a vagrant instance with Exim 4.89-2+deb9u3 to
replicate the POC.

Please see https://pastebin.com/raw/EiLbpsH4 for successful
exploitation.

What was of interest to me, I upgraded to 4.89-2+deb9u4 and redid the POC.

Please see https://pastebin.com/raw/iqaJyHt2, but you will see is, the
file POC does not work, BUT mail still gets accepted.

Please see https://pastebin.com/raw/YLS7CBHY

I just want to double check is this is correct / acceptable.

Kind Regards
Brent Clark
P.s. Just a Q of food for thought, should not CHECK_RCPT_LOCAL_LOCALPARTS and /
or
CHECK_RCPT_REMOTE_LOCALPARTS be updated in
/etc/exim4/conf.d/main/01_exim4-config_listmacrosdefs?

TLDR;
An attacker could gain control of any Kodi device through the use of malicious
code placed within subtitles. Hypothetically, if an infected subtitle file were
to be downloaded by Kodi, it could give a hacker full control over your device.
This is particularly concerning when it comes to automatically downloaded
subtitles.

2015-08-16 Thread Brent Clark
Package: vagrant
Version: 1:1.7.4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
The current version of Virtualbox is not compatible with Vagrant. I get
this:
The provider 'virtualbox' that was requested to back the machine
'default' is reporting that it isn't usable on this system. The
reason is shown below:

Vagrant has detected that you have a version of VirtualBox
installed
that is not supported. Please install one of the supported
versions
listed below to use Vagrant:

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or

I tried:
sudo apt-get purge virtualbox-dkms ; sudo apt-get install
virtualbox-dkms
as well as,
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
to make sure I had the kernel headers ... I did.

In the end I just got the deb package from upstream (version 1.7.4).

So I suppose this bug is in two parts a wishlist item and compatiblilty
issue.
Please can you upgrade to the latest vagrant package.

2015-07-05 Thread Brent Clark
Package: gnome
Version: 1:3.14+3

Dear Maintainer,

The locking of screen does not work.
I see the short cut is listed (i.e. Super + L).
I even reassigned it to Mates shortcut (Cntrl + Alt + L), but nothing works.

If this could be looked at, it would be appreciated.

Bug#781023: initramfs-tools: Volume group not found before trying to mount root filesystem on LVM.

2015-03-23 Thread Brent Clark
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.119
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Good day.
Just built a new wheezy server and upgraded to Jessie (LVM on Raid10).
These are my steps:
1) Build new Wheezy server (LVM on Raid10).
2) Edit /etc/apt/sources.list and change Wheezy to Jessie
3) Run apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade
4) Run apt-get dist-upgrade
5) Run apt-get -f install and made sure all packages are installed.
5) Reboot
6) The server boots, and then eventually drops too spitting out
Begin: Running /scripts/local-block done.
Gave up waiting for /usr device.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I did a cat /proc/mdstat and saw raid was running.
I then proceed to run:
1) lvm
2) vgscan
3) vgchange -ay
4) Pressed Control + D two or three times.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Booted in to new built Jessie OS.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
For the server to boot into the new built Jessie OS.

I would like to state that I have built this server a few times.
Ive rescue booted the and via chroot ran
update-initramfs -u -t -k all ; update-grub
Followed by grub-install /dev/sda1

I added 'rootdelay=10' to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub

Kind Regards
Brent Clark

Bug#781023: initramfs-tools: Volume group not found before trying to mount root filesystem on LVM.

2015-03-23 Thread Brent Clark
Sorry I just would like to add that I too added the following to
/etc/initramfs-tools/modules

raid0
raid1
raid5
raid6
raid10

Followed by update-initramfs -u -t -k all etc.
Still nothing works.

Kind Regards
Brent Clark

P.s. if you would like screen shots etc, please don't hesitate to ask.

Bug#744012: rkhunter: Checking file i18n versions [ Update failed ]

2014-04-09 Thread Brent Clark
Package: rkhunter
Version: 1.4.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Ran the command 'rkhunter --update'

   * What was the outcome of this action?
ams-web01:~# rkhunter --update
[ Rootkit Hunter version 1.3.8 ]

Checking rkhunter data files...
Checking file mirrors.dat [ No update ]
Checking file programs_bad.dat [ No update ]
Checking file backdoorports.dat [ No update ]
Checking file suspscan.dat[ No update ]
Checking file i18n versions [ Update failed ]

Please check the log file (/var/log/rkhunter.log)

If I run this in a wheezy machine, I get
[ Rootkit Hunter version 1.4.0 ]

Checking rkhunter data files...
  Checking file mirrors.dat [ No update ]
  Checking file programs_bad.dat [ No update ]
Checking file backdoorports.dat[ No update ]
  Checking file suspscan.dat [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/cn [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/de [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/en [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/tr [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/tr.utf8 [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/zh [ No update ]
  Checking file i18n/zh.utf8 [ No update ]

Although it say 'No update', it does not say, 'Update failed'

Maybe rkhunter has moved on and deal with 'il8n' differently, which is fine,
but then those that still have squeeze servers out there, we are not able to
get i18n versions and updates. And as a result may need to be patched / fixed.

Kind Regards
Brent Clark

Try upgrading to a recent kernel first, for instance latest

This is not actually replicated in Ubuntu. I dont recall having this

On my Debian testing workstation ... I do.

Maybe its Debian specific.

Hiya

Thank you for taking an interest.

In my initially email, I did try and word it correctly and be less
abstractive, as I can imagine how silly it may sound.

Basically what I do is. Start Thunderbird, then I start alltray. I get
prompted with the box and message in the centre of the screen saying
Please click on the window you would like to dock and with it a cross
hair.

I click the cross hair on numerous places on Thunderbird (its the same
for any application really), even the top title bar. Nothing happens or
is minimised.

Hope I make sense.

Bug#552665: RFP: Zumastor -- Zumastor is Free software that adds enterprise storage features (primarily improved snapshots and remote replication) to Linux.

2009-10-28 Thread Brent Clark
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: Zumastor
  Version : 0.8
Upstream Author : Dan Kegel d...@kegel.com
* URL : http://zumastor.org/
* License : (GPL)
  Programming Lang: (C, C++, C#, Perl, Python)
Description : Zumastor is Free software that adds enterprise storage
features (primarily improved snapshots and remote replication) to Linux.

It has been difficult to convince users of commercial NAS applicances to switch
to Linux. In particular, some commercial NAS boxes have had better support for
snapshots and remote replication than Linux does. Zumastor is an effort to fix
that.
2.1. Snapshots

Snapshots can be useful as part of an hourly backup system. Instead of shutting
down all applications for the entire duration of the backup, you can shut them
down for just the second or two needed to take a snapshot.

If your goal is to protect users from accidental deletion of files, you may
want to take snapshots every hour, and leave the last few snapshots around;
users who accidentally delete a file can just look in the snapshot.

LVM already lets administrators create snapshots, but its design has the
surprising property that every block you change on the original volume consumes
one block for each snapshot. The resulting speed and space penalty usually
makes the use of more than one or two snapshots at a time impractical.

Zumastor keeps all snapshots for a particular volume in a common snapshot
store, and shares blocks the way one would expect. Thus making a change to one
block of a file in the original volume only uses one block in the snapshot
store no matter how many snapshots you have.
2.2. Remote Replication

Andrew Tridgell's rsync is a wonderful tool for replicating files remotely.
However, when doing periodic replication of large numbers of infrequently
changing files, the overhead for figuring out what files need to be sent can be
extreme.

Zumastor keeps track of which block change between one snapshot and the next,
and can easily send just the changed blocks. Thus Zumastor can do frequent
replication of large filesystems much more efficiently than rsync can.

Bug#527254: xtables-addons: ipp2p of current version has a bug, upstream fixes issue.

2009-05-06 Thread Brent Clark
Package: xtables-addons
Version: 1.15-1
Severity: normal

Current version of ipp2p has a bug.

Example:
iptables v1.4.3.2: --kazaa: (null) option may only be specified once

Changelog from upstream:
Xtables-addons 1.15 (April 30 2009)
===
- build: add kernel version check to configure
- condition: compile fix for 2.6.30-rc
- condition: fix intrapositional negation sign
- fuzzy: fix bogus comparison logic leftover from move to new 1.4.3 API
- ipp2p: fix bogus varargs call
- ipp2p: fix typo in error message
- added iface match
- added rawpost table (for use with RAWNAT)
- added RAWSNAT/RAWDNAT targets

I quickly downloaded and used checkinstall, and I can confirm that with the
upstream, the problem goes away.

P.s. Please upload to testing A.S.A.P.

Anyway, will try to get rid of the libdjvu dependency on xdg-utils.

Hi Barak

Im not sure if you know that debian is freezing soon.

Will it be possibe to make / do your changes.

I still have my test machine, so if you want, upload to unstable, and I
will be happy to test / help where I can.

using the usual desktop registration infrastructure.

Is it the requirement for that infrastructure that is pulling in the
material you don't want? Or is it something else that some djvu
package is depending upon?

Thank you for your work and efforts.

Bug#472347: perlmagick vs unrealistic dependency's

2008-07-15 Thread Brent Clark

Barak A. Pearlmutter wrote:

CURRENT SIMPLE WORKAROUND

For now, you can work around the issue by installing some tiny browser
that Provides: www-browser. Say, lynx. Then xdg-utils should be
satisfied without installing iceweasel and friends.

Hi Barak

I thank you very much for your reply / response.

I tried what you suggested (installing lynx), and im sorry to say, but
that does not work.

Im sorry to say this (dont want come across as obtuse), but I dont
think you fully understand the implications of / for some of us not able
to upgrade / install perlmagick and / or other packages.
With your response of its not critical, I personally am of the
opinion, that you literally are holding up some elements of debian
testing and unstable.

Take my other scenario. I wanted to test and install bugzilla3. I cant
because the dependancys.

I really hope that for the debian community this is resolved.

Thanks to all for your responses and work. from my end, its very much
appreciated.
