Bug#824942:
I'm not certain if this is related but it appears it might have fixed my UPS spinning up the fan all the time as well. I manually updated to 3.14.13 and now my UPS seems to be quiet most of the time (off/low speed fan). - Chris
Bug#824942:
Package: apcupsd Version: 3.14.12-1.2 Severity: important There is a much newer version of apcupsd available from upstream, and has been available for over a year (2015-02-03). 3.14.12 was released on 2014-03-29. It appears the packages debian/watch file is also not working which may be why this was overlooked. They did not enumerate all the bug fixes over than to state they were numerous (see below). https://sourceforge.net/projects/apcupsd/files/apcupsd%20-%20Stable/3.14.13/ - Chris Cheney === 3.14.13 -- 02 February 2015 NEW FEATURES * MODBUS USB support Previous releases supported MODBUS serial (RS232). This release adds support for MODBUS over USB. This protocol is preferable to the normal USB HID driver because it offers access to more UPS data readouts and controls. The only configuration file change needed versus MODBUS serial is to change UPSCABLE to usb and use an empty DEVICE setting. See the MODBUS section of the apcupsd manual for more details. * Support for Apple Notification Center on Mac OS X (replaces Growl) * Apple install packages and binaries are signed with an Apple Developer key for compatibility with Gate Keeper * Windows USB driver has been updated with additional USB identifiers to support future APC products. BUG FIXES * Use launchd for startup on Mac OS X as the old Startup Items mechanism is no longer supported in 10.10 and above * Fix apcaccess on ARM systems where char is unsigned by default * Fix several potential issues identified by Coverity static analysis * Numerous other fixes and improvements all over the code, many of them submitted by users...Thank you! MISC * Windows port now builds with the same configure and make system as the other targets, no need to maintain a special hardcoded Makefile. * Many cleanups to the Windows port codebase * Prebuilt binaries for Mac OS X no longer support PowerPC systems or Mac OS X 10.4 and older

Bug#518433: XALANJ-2430 - Xalan 2.7.1 won't compile an xslt when a recursive template is used in a global variable.
Package: libxalan2-java Version: 2.7.1-2 Severity: grave Tags: upstream http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XALANJ-2430 This bug affects the ability for OpenOffice.org to at minimum load/save to mediawiki, xhtml, office 2003 xml formats, all of which I have seen bug reports about. Bug#513415: suitesparse: please split libcolamd out into a separate package
Package: suitesparse Version: 1:3.2.0-1 libcolamd should be split out since OpenOffice.org uses it to help reduce install footprint. I maintain OOo in Ubuntu and have made this change in Ubuntu already, but after talking to Rene, the Debian OpenOffice.org maintainer, he would like to see this changed in Debian as well. I believe that a split-up patch should show up at the following URL later today: http://patches.ubuntu.com/s/suitesparse/ It should also be available here as a debdiff: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21728308/suitesparse_1%3A3.2.0-1_1% 3A3.2.0-1ubuntu1.diff.gz It is possible that my changes are not the optimal way to do it. Bug#456332: dpkg could use an elevated pre-depends or depends on lzma
Package: dpkg dpkg supports using lzma for compression of debs however it only suggests the lzma binary package which is what is _currently_ used for decompressing the debs. In the future it would be preferable if a liblzma package existed that dpkg could use similarly to how it uses libbz2. IMHO packages should not pre-depend on the lzma binary package since it is an implementation level detail of how dpkg supports lzma binaries currently. So dpkg needs to pre-depends/depends on the lzma binary package so that packages can use lzma compression. However packages using lzma compression will need a pre-depends on the correct version of dpkg (the one with the depends/pre-depends on lzma). FWIW - Ubuntu already does the above so that it can have lzma compressed debs. There is more information about what Ubuntu has done and is planning on doing and how much lzma helps at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/dpkg-lzma There is also a patch in Ubuntu for apt-utils apt-ftparchive to support lzma compressed debs that I wrote that someone may want to pull into Debian. The above page has the patch along with including support for Packages files being compressed with lzma except for one pkgAcqIndex::Failed function that needs to be corrected. If the Packages file support isn't wanted then it will need to be split out of the diff. Thanks, Chris Cheney -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#433412: drift documentation bug
Package: drift Version: 2.2.1-2 Making new rules with DrIFT involves writing a file UserRules.hs, and the DrIFT documentation, instead of showing how to write such a file, points the reader to an example file in the source distribution. Unfortunately this file is not packaged in Debian, so the user has to go and get the source distribution even though he already has DrIFT ready to run. The example rule files are src/UserRule*.hs. These should be included in the binary package, or otherwise packaged separately in a -doc package (along with the other docs). Without them, the documentation is incomplete. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#294271: Upgrading to RC
Precisely due to the fact that Debian releases are so seldom do you think Microsoft won't add IDN support to IE7 in Longhorn next year? If they do Debian won't be able to access the many sites that will pop up soon after IE adds official support. Perhaps the release team/stable release manager needs to have a position on later recompiling the browsers for stable to support IDN if/when it becomes widely used. Chris On Wed, Feb 09, 2005 at 12:41:14AM +0100, Mike Hommey wrote: As discussed on #d-d, these bugs should be RC. (The firefox one is already RC) Note to self: don't do stuff while tired. So let's go for a more detailed justification. IDN is widely broken due to the fact that registrars don't do their job. But it's not widely used, first reason being that IE doesn't support it without a plugin. Considering that a Debian release is usually due to last quite long, keeping something unused and dangerous in a release is insane. You might want to disable it totally or provide a way to enable it with a runtime option or something if the user really wants it. That's the safest fix. Bug#292401: kdm_config override /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc which is a conffile
On Wed, Jan 26, 2005 at 05:03:45PM -0500, Christopher Martin wrote: To fix this, we'd need either to ship a kdmrc that conforms to the kcontrol configurator's basic pattern, and so wouldn't be modified by kcontrol more than is really necessary (could we make it keep the comments, at least?), or else re-write the kdm module of kcontrol to behave less stupidly, which would be quite an undertaking. Comments? Perhaps this is a bug that would be useful forwarded upstream, hopefully the upstream authors just overlooked the fact that it mangles the config file and it is not a feature. ;) Chris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
