Bug#410774: povray: amd64 version planned?

2007-02-12 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: povray
Version: 3.6.1-6
Severity: wishlist

While the version of povray in current stable supports all archs,
that in testing/unstable is i386 only. A quick scan of the buglist
shows that there were issues in getting povray built on amd64, but
those seem to have been resolved. Is there any chance of an amd64
version becoming available?

Thanks,

Hi. As far as I'm concerned, you can close it -- not because it's
been solved (from what I've heard, it likely hasn't), but because I
don't have the system in question anymore, and thus can't even try
to reproduce it.

The bug was also filed upstream (and confirmed there by a variety of
people); so either it's fixed, or at least the people who'd be the
ones to fix it are aware of it.

Cheers,

Bug#388416: fontconfig: Another sighting of this.

2006-10-07 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: fontconfig
Version: 2.3.2-7
Followup-For: Bug #388416

Currently being bit by this bug in etch. It occurred while I was
trying to do an upgrade. It happened while trying to install
ttf-opensymbol:

# apt-get -f install

Building dependency tree... Done

Right now I'm not able to use apt-get at all, on any package, since
any attempt to do so tries to finish the install of ttf-opensymbol,
which runs into the bug and dies. I know, for instance, that I'm
a version out-of-date on fontconfig itself; but I can't install the
most current since apt first tries to finish the install of
ttf-opensymbol, then chokes.

This is really frustrating.

Oh dear.

There really is nothing more to *my* reproducing it than what I've
said:

1. from the shell, type "sol" and hit enter.
2. Aisleriot comes up showing the game last played, which right
now is "Zebra"
3. I hit the "select game" button on the toolbar, and a list of
solitaire games pops up in a smaller window.
4. I select one and hit OK, and all the windows immediately die,
and the error messages above go to the console, after which I'm
back at a shell prompt.

I'm running etch on AMD64, had used this program successfully within
24 hours of when I ran into this problem, and in the intervening
time had done some package upgrading via apt-get. So maybe there's
some package version incompatibility that wasn't caught?

Bug#362959: bygfoot: hangs at 100% CPU, allocates all memory.

2006-04-16 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: bygfoot
Version: 1.9.4-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Attempting to run bygfoot results in 100% CPU utilization by the
bygfoot process; the bygfoot process appears to be allocating
all memory, and everything else resident gets swapped out. This
probably isn't very helpful, but a quick check in gdb produced
this backtrace after ctrl-c'ing out of the hang:

Program received signal SIGINT, Interrupt.
0x2c5ac18d in g_free () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0

Conceivably this is an issue in libglib2.0-0 instead; I'm too
programming ignorant to say. But I can probably try to rebuild
this package from source, with symbols on, if you need more
info.

Thanks for any help,

Bug#356794: qgis-plugin-grass: Uninstallable from unstable -- simple dependancy fix needed?

2006-03-13 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: qgis-plugin-grass
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

With recent updates, qgis is finally installable -- the list of
dependancies for qgis was fixed, #351409 was closed, and qgis
installs OK (although oddly, its page on p.d.o still lists
the old, unavailable library dependancy).

However, it appears qgis-plugin-grass didn't get so adjusted;
attempting to install it still gets:

} The following packages have unmet dependencies.
} qgis-plugin-grass: Depends: libgdal1-1.3.1-grass but it is not installable
} E: Broken packages

p.d.o lists libgdal1-grass as a dependancy, which was replaced by
libgdal1c2, then libgdal1c2a, and finally libgdal1-1.3.1 (which is
what's actually available in sid).

Cheers,

-c

It's an official release arch now; as soon as the mirror split is done,
the official amd64 repository is to be rebuilt. If it's possible to
make this package available at that time, that'd be ubercool.

which fixes the bug is not in unstable and never made it to testing.
The versions in both testing and unstable remain unusuable; this bug

Bug#351409: qgis currently uninstallable in unstable; replacement library avail?

2006-02-22 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: qgis
Followup-For: Bug #351409

qgis is currently uninstallable in unstable, apparently for the same
reason: libgdal1c2a, which is no longer available, is specified as
a dependancy. This package is apparently replaced by libgdal1-1.3.1,
which *is* currently present in unstable. Apparently the needed
change to the list of dependancies has made it to grass, but not qgis,
yet.

Bug#352608: xine-ui: Selecting fullscreen through mouse interface causes abort.

2006-02-12 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: xine-ui
Version: 0.99.3-1.3
Severity: normal

When viewing an .avi, selecting fullscreen mode with the mouse causes an
immediate abort, with an error message like:

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (!prev): 0x0165a880
***Aborted

written to the invoking terminal window. This bug is intermittent -- it
occurs about 90% of the time I try to go fullscreen in this fashion, but
not every time. Going fullscreen with the "f" hotkey works OK. Also,
selecting any other option through the visual/mouse interface (e.g.
a loop mode, a 50% or 200% resizing of the window, etc.) works OK; it's
only fullscreen that causes the abort.

Bug#352368: gnat-gps: AMD64 port?

2006-02-11 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: gnat-gps
Severity: wishlist

Just a wishlist request for an AMD64 port of this IDE. I presume it'll
be possible to run it in the 32-bit chroot jail, and that's what I'm
going to try next; but it'd be nice to not have to. I used it a lot on
my previous machine and would like to again.

Cheers,

Bug#307736: After update to 1.0.4, sylpheed-claws no longer finds libgpgme, can't sign outgoing email.

2005-05-04 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: sylpheed-claws
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: normal

I've been using sylpheed-claws for a couple of years, signing my
email all the while. A couple of days ago, I updated as the
version in Sarge changed. I now can no longer sign outgoing
email; the option is selected, but under Configuration -->
Preferences --> Privacy, the only choice available for
"Default privacy system" is "None." No changes to libgpgme
packages took place at that time.

Hmmm, OK, maybe my bug is misnamed. If this facility was removed in
2.8, then the 2.8 packages didn't clean it out from my existing GNOME
installation when they were installed, which I would naively have
expected . . .

Is this really the only way to do it now? If so, then I guess I
should go to gnome.org and file a wishlist bug. This approach
doesn't work for my case: where the file is a download from a
link on a website. The only possibility would be to choose
'Save' rather than 'Open', and *then* bring up Nautilus and
right-click on the file, which is pretty Rube-Goldberg-ish. Is
it really the case that there is no longer any other way to set
applications for mime types?

Thanks much,

2005-03-06 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: capplets
Version: 1:2.8.1-4
Severity: normal

I'm tracking GNOME in Sarge. I have packages gnome and
gnome-desktop-environment installed, so I should have everything
needed.

When attempting to open a .doc file today, suddenly, the only option
available is AbiWord. I wanted to put oowriter back on the list of
options for .doc files, so I headed off to Desktop Preferences -->
Advanced --> File Types and Programs. Doing so generates an error
window stating "Cannot launch entry / Details: Failed to execute
child process `gnome-file-types-properties' (No such file or directory)'

A quick check on p.d.o shows no package in testing or unstable
containing such a program.

At present, this seems to make it impossible to set applications
for mime types.

Bug#297167: bygfoot: 1.8 versions NOT save game compatible with 1.6 versions; should be made more clear?

2005-02-27 Thread Chris Metzler
Package: bygfoot
Version: 1.8.0-1
Severity: wishlist

The 1.8.x versions of bygfoot are not "save" compatible with
the 1.6.x versions; games saved under 1.6.x cannot be loaded
and continued with 1.8.x. This is a rude surprise to find
out *after* installing. It's not listed in changelog.Debian
either, so apt-listchanges doesn't catch it. I suggest a
news entry, like when other packages make changes that should
definitely be noted by person installing.
