Bug#445328: gnupg: man page formatting and other typos
Tags: patch Please find enclosed a patch that fixes the problem reported (and solved) by Kevin Ryde. The patch should be applied to the uncompressed man page (from its directory), i.e. gunzip gpg.1.gz patch gpg.1 gpg.1.patch I also took the liberty of fixing a few obvious typos by running aspell on the man page, e.g. RETURN VAUE should be RETURN VALUE. See the patch for details. Finally, I observed that a mixture of British and American spelling is used. In particular, behaviour is used six times and behavior is used eight times. As English is not my first language I chose not to do anything about it. The man page has also undergone some changes for version 1.4.7 (see bug #452118) so there seems to be little point in working too much on the current one. /Christer --- gpg.1 2007-03-07 22:16:09.0 + +++ new.gpg.1 2007-12-12 12:07:04.0 + @@ -31,7 +31,7 @@ .SH COMMANDS -Commands are not distinguished from options execpt for the fact that +Commands are not distinguished from options except for the fact that only one command is allowed. \fBgpg\fR may be run with no commands, in which case it will @@ -149,9 +149,7 @@ signed stuff is expected in a file without the .sig or .asc extension. Bug#445637: Not a bug (erroneous example)
This is not a bug. There is an error in the example. According to the POSIX standard yyparse() should return a zero value if the input is accepted (i.e. if it is correct), and a non-zero value otherwise. Bison implements the entire state machine inside yyparse() so the explicit return statement inside the semantic action for exp will actually determine whether or not the input is accepted. That is, valid input will be accepted if and only if the sum (or single integer) equals zero. Furthermore, the return statement terminates parsing before yyparse() gets a chance to report the error. In technical terms the last FOO token is a look-ahead token when the sum is reduced, and as such it is not yet on the stack when the return statement is reached. If you replace return $1; by $$ = $1; (which is what you intended, right?) the syntax error will be reported. I am not sure why byacc produces the output you expect. It could be that it checks the validity of the look-ahead token prior to reducing the stack but I haven't taken the time to check. Also note that global variables are necessary if information assembled by the parser is needed by external functions. To get the value of exp in the main program you could for example add static int exp_value; to the declarations, and replace the start rule by exp : expr { exp_value = $1; }; If you are interested in all the gory details of the bison-generated parser you could add the lines #define YYDEBUG 1 int yydebug = 1; to the declarations. This causes the parser to output information on the current state, the parser stack, and rules applied, for each token encountered. For the output to make sense you probably want to add the -v option when invoking bison, which writes a textual description of the grammar to the file y.output. Bug#409461: Bug#442477: manpage for bashbug
Package: bash Version: 3.1dfsg-8 Followup-For: Bug #442477 Tags: patch Here is yet another man page in addition to Patrick's, and the one posted by Robert Waldner for bug #409461. I wrote the man page after checking the list of missing man pages at qa.debian.org, but prior to checking for existing patches. Since I already wrote it I thought I might just as well submit it. My version is slightly more verbose than Patrick's although the information is nearly identical. There are some technical details which differ, e.g. * If you invoke bashbug by accident... Confirmation is needed even if the file has changed. * Environment variables DEFEDITOR is preferred over EDITOR. * See Also section I've chosen to include Debian's reportbug and update-alternatives (for the editor). * Formatting Standard formatting of Name and Synopsis (courtesy of DocBook XSL). My primary source of information has been the /usr/bin/bashbug code. I believe my man page is the most accurate of the three suggested. I would however be happy to work with other contributors to produce a single version for inclusion with the package.
