Bug#1027766: vim: backspace doesn't remove characters anymore

2023-01-02 Thread Cyril Lacoux
Hi,

Same here, it seems that the M from VIM is gone : no history on undo command,
no completion when opening a new file and a lot things are broken.

$ dpkg -L vim-common | grep debian.vim
/usr/share/vim/@VIMCUR@/debian.vim

Everything seem ok after moving the file to /usr/share/vim/vim90.

Bug#778626: broadcom-sta-dkms: Module build ... was skipped

Hi,

 First Installation: checking all kernels...
 Building only for 3.16.0-4-amd64
Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the
kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed.

Could you please check that the following links are present in
/lib/modules/3.16.0-4-amd64/:

build - /usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-4-amd64/
source - /usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-4-common/

And check that target directories are ok.

For your information linux-source is not required to build the module,
installing linux-headers-3.16.0-4-amd64 should be enough.

Bug#777280: broadcom-sta-dkms: API function (cfg80211_inform_bss) change since kernel 3.17

2015-02-08 Thread Cyril Lacoux
Hello,

Kernel function cfg80211_inform_bss() parameter changed since version 3.17,
 so broadcam-sta-dkms failed to compile.

According to this[1] and that[2], this is affecting kernel 3.18 only which is
in experimental, not in testing. Anyway, current kernel in testing is 3.16.

I'll try to upload a new version with clean patch in *experimental* in few
days or weeks.

Hi,

When attempting to make an upstream tarball out of the dkms package,
similar to the upstream tarball of broadcom-sta-5.100.82.112, I
noticed the dkms pacakge only includes an x86_64 binary, so that
cannot replace the current broadcom-sta package (which has an i386
binary). So, I must separately maintain this amd64 driver for
bcm43142, on private repo, at least temporarily. Should I open an ITP?

I think you should not do that because this driver doesn't seem to be only for
this chipset but an enhanced version of the broadcom-sta driver which support
recent chipsets (see attached diff, in particular wl_id_table declaration).

I'll be pleased to upload the new version of the broadcom-sta driver when it's
released (including i386 binary).

Anyway this can't be done before Wheezy release.

When using a backported kernel, you should consider using broadcom-sta package
from testing, you could give a try to this one :

http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/broadcom-sta-dkms

Both dkms package from Squeeze or Squeeze backports should work.

Let me know!

Bug#672677: broadcom-sta-dkms: Fix the version check for 3.* kernels

2012-05-24 Thread Cyril Lacoux
Hi,

With your patch (ie when enabling cfg80211), I get a lot of syslog messages
like these :
ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rssi (-1)
ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Could not get rate (-1)

After reading a thread[1] from ArchLinux users and having a look at the code
of brcm80211 driver[2], I think we (need to|can safely) remove the capable()
call made in function wl_ioctl() from file wl_linux.c.

Oddly, ioctl call sometimes returns an EINVAL error when getting RSSI value,
the test is:

iwconfig wlan0 # No error / bit rate value is displayed
iwconfig# EINVAL error / bit rate value is missing

Error also occurs when I activate my network monitoring applet (kde, but same
behaviour with Conky, see[1]).

So could you please test attached patch and tell me if it's ok for you ?

Kind regards,
Cyril Lacoux

Perhaps I should orphan this package because I don't get the necessary

Was that always present? Somehow I'd be glad if the ftp-masters take
another look at this and/or if Broadcom could clarify the wording.

Yes, I checked the first version (5.10.79.10-1, 04/2009) that entered into
Debian and this clause was already here, see :

I don't like to act as a buffer here, holding up the package development in
arbitrary ways, but if somebody tells me that this is surely acceptable for
the archive, I can enable autobuilding. (It didn't scare only me, but a
quick strawpoll in #d-devel said the same.)

I understand, on the other hand, I'm not a lawyer and I think my english is
not good enough to discuss about license terms with Broadcom's lawyers, how do
you generally proceed when such a problem occurs ?

Second, how do we have to proceed in order to make the new package available

Does my sponsor need to re-upload the current version for amd64 so that the

Shall I have to increment package version before re-uploading it ?

Bug#659732: [autobuild] Please add broadcom-sta to non-free autobuild list

2012-02-20 Thread Cyril Lacoux
Hi,

Broadcom-sta[1] is the proprietary driver for some wireless network cards from
Broadcom.

I recently switched package architecture from «all» to «amd64 i386» because
the driver has a prorietary precompiled part which is only available for these
two architectures.

After last upload to amd64, package has been «decrufted» from «all»
architecture and is now missing for i386 (See #659732[2]).

Could your please add broadcom-sta package to the autobuild list ?

I checked the license and saw nothing that could forbid such thing.
Moreover this is not really a compilation since the two concerned packages
(broadcom-sta-source and broadcom-sta-dkms) provide the source tree of the
driver.

Thanks,
Cyril Lacoux

Bug#659732: ftp.debian.org: arch changed from all to amd64 i386 for broadcom-sta package

2012-02-13 Thread Cyril Lacoux
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Dear ftp masters,

I recently uploaded (actually, my sponsor did...) a new version of the package
broadcom-sta[1], one of the changes was to set architecture to amd64 i386
because this package is only valid for these archs.
Since that, it is only available for amd64 while an older version has been
resurrected from nowhere for all other architectures, see broadcom-sta-source
information page[2] and #659509[3].

Could you please fix this and allow broadcom-sta-source and broadcom-sta-dkms
packages to be rebuilt for i386 architecture ?

Many thanks,

existent and thats the reason i've emailed you)

Thanks for the link. The bug #652811 is now assigned to broadcom-sta-source.

i'm a semi-advanced linux debian user, and i think that the problem could
be on the driver or some uncompatibility with one of the packages cuz the
system freezes when i try one of the following:

(it happens whit broadcom-sta driver. the brcm80211 driver don't let the
system to load it loads frozen)

- Boot the system with the wlan on (led on so the wifi card is on)-
System Freezes. Only when xorg is loaded (KDE Desktop) i can turn on the
wlan0 and it detects the networks
- When i have booted correctly and turn on the wlan0, and try to connect
to some network - System Freezes
- Every thing that deals with connection management of the wlan comes to
a system freezes.

Bad news: looking for acer + BCM4313 + freeze gives a huge amount of results
and it doesn't seem to be related to broadcom-sta.

I found two interresting links, the first[1] recommends to blacklist acer_wmi
module, the second[2] recomments to blacklist atl1c (as a result the ethernet
card should stop to work). Please try each solution.

Bug#648396: broadcom-sta: Breaks existing configuration after renaming interface

2011-11-11 Thread Cyril Lacoux
Le vendredi 11 novembre 2011 08:35:01, vous avez écrit :

Geoff,

Due to 02-rename-to-wlan0.patch (applied via #648169), the interface
created by wl was renamed (now wlan0, formerly eth1) following an upgrade.
This affected my existing ifupdown configuration, requiring amendments
within /etc/network/interfaces to restore wireless LAN connectivity.

You're right, I missed the point since my configuration is handled via network
manager with dhcp only. Mea culpa.

I don't see why it was necessary to divert from upstream here, as other
 non-mac80211 drivers (e.g. atmel*, ipw2100, ipw2200, orinoco*, zd1201) were
not adapted to follow this mac80211 convention.

Not really necessary but a clean patch was submitted and all wireless
interfaces that are in my other computers are named wlan0, so why not?

If users are to be potentially inconvenienced after a package upgrade, this
should be noted in a NEWS.Debian file.

Right, are you ok with this message:

Interface is now renamed from ethX to wlanY to follow mac80211 convention
(in my case, eth1 was renamed to wlan0).
If you experience any networking problem after this upgrade, you should
have a look to /etc/network/interfaces file and replace any occurrences of
  ethX with wlanY.
You can also safely remove the old configuration parameters concerning wl
module from udev persistent network rules file:
  /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

(I'm not a native english speaker, so any improvements are welcome)

Many thanks for all your contibutions to this package!

..linux/.. to ..generated/.. . Because the file is replaced every time
you start m-a, it is to be corrected in the file

Ok, thanks for the tip, I will have a look to this when 2.6.33 is installable
from experimental which is not for now (linux-kbuild-2.6.33 is missing from

A second Problem occurs (build error), which can
be solved only by deleting the tar-file und the complete directory it is
unpacked in, and reinstall broadcom-sta-source (updating only seems not be
enough). Is it possible to include this work in the installation-routine?

Removing /usr/src/modules/broadcom-sta should do the trick.
This can be done by `m-a clean broadcom-sta`.

 - I did not rebuild the initrd-File. I used the module-assistant to
build the Kernelmodule, and it works without errors.

With a fresh install of -3, you must.
Previously ssb and b43 modules were unloaded just before loading wl.
Now modules are blacklisted via /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf and
wl module is loaded.

 - I attatched 2 dmesg-outputs, one with working old module and one with
the new. Hope that can help...

Yes, I think :
 - I can see that ssb module was loaded at boot time:
ssb: Sonics Silicon Backplane found on PCI device :08:00.0
 - It seems that there is a problem with module's license :
wl: module license 'unspecified' taints kernel.
   but it should be:
wl: module license 'MIXED/Proprietary' taints kernel.

Could you please:
 - remove /usr/src/modules/broadcom-sta directory
 - rebuild and install the module with m-a
 - check that /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf is the new one[1]
 - rebuild the initrd file to prevent modules from being loaded at boot time
 - reboot

[1] :
# wl module from Broadcom conflicts with ssb
# We must blacklist the following modules:
blacklist b44
blacklist b43legacy
blacklist b43
blacklist ssb
install wl /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install wl $CMDLINE_OPTS
