Bug#772438: [gtk3-engines-oxygen]

2015-03-16 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: gtk3-engines-oxygen
Version: 1.4.1-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I'm experiencing this issue too, and I think it may be related to the video
driver/card.
The issue is present on two laptops with Intel Haswell video card (below is
the lspci entry of the one I'm writing from), Xorg driver is the current in
sid (2:2.21.15-2+b2) on this laptop, the current in testing (same version) on
the other.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 09)

I'm not experiencing the same problem on two older (desktop) systems, one with
an integrated Intel (G41 chipset, current driver in debian testing), the other
with a radeon card (open source driver)

This is a system with nvidia optimus (but the other laptop experiencing this
issue isn't), trying to run gtk3 applications with optirun does not help.

Bug#598817: [traverso] No crash in testing i386 KDE4

2010-10-18 Thread Daniele Benucci
2010/10/18 Alessio Treglia ales...@debian.org

On Sat, Oct 2, 2010 at 6:36 PM, Daniele Benucci d.be...@gmail.com wrote:
  Package: traverso

This makes me think that the new 0.49.2 should not be affected by the
 crash described above.
Isn't it so? Which version are you using?

Version affected is 0.49.2 (sid version), installed on a Sid amd64 box: see
my first e-mail (sent the same day at 1.06PM).
In my second e-mail (the one you quoted) I was reporting that 0.49.1-3+b1
(testing version) *did not* crash on a Squeeze i386 box.
I sent the second mail because I thought it was worth reporting the old
version was *not* affected (at least on i386), so probably the crash is
caused by a regression in 0.49.2 or by the amd64 build

Cheers.

Bug#598817: [traverso] Crashes when opening file dialogs in KDE4

2010-10-02 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: traverso
Version: 0.49.2-1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Traverso crashes when first starting in KDE4 environment with the following
output in console (crash is catched and a dialog box is shown, then program is
terminated):

---console output---
dani...@cougar:~$ traverso

---end of console output---

If manually editing ~/.traverso/Traverso-DAW/Traverso.ini as stated in
http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?30401#comment0, traverso starts and works,
but crashes in the same way every time a file dialog should be opened (eg.:
Edit-Import audio or Project-Open Project-Select Project Dir.

Still crashes starting with a clean user profile or without DE (xterm-only X
session).

Does not crash in a sid virtual machine running e17.

Does not crash in xterm-only session if running with Qt's GTK+ theme/engine
(using Raleigh GTK theme) or changing theme to Qt's GTK+ one while running
(when this theme is selected GTK file dialog is shown). After this change all
other Qt themes do NOT trigger the crash until program is closed.
Unfortunately trying the same steps when running Traverso in a KDE4 session
does not help (may be related to KDE font and color settings applied to GTK
applications).

Bug#582637: [linux-2.6] Please enable CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO

2010-05-29 Thread Daniele Benucci
As promised I checked too, using xorg and radeon drivers currently from sid
(the version of the server packages is the same of the packages in testing,
while the driver's version is not --used 6.13.0-2--), kms enabled (it's the
default for radeon), and can confirm it works without problems here too.

I also tried to switch the cards on-the-fly (= with Xorg running) echoing
DIS and IGD instead of the delayed equivalents DDIS and DIGD (that
perform the switch when shutting down Xorg) to check if using them could
lead to breakage: no problems in this case too, as the echoed option is
ignored

System is an Asus M51Ta, with ati+ati hybrid graphics.

Bug#582637: [linux-2.6] Please enable CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO

2010-05-24 Thread Daniele Benucci
2010/5/24 maximilian attems m...@stro.at

Please enable CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO kernel config option (available from
2.6.34) to enable support for video card switching on notebooks with both
integrated and discrete video card (aka hybrid graphics).

you have to check that it does not break xorg, did you?
 (considering xorg packages from squeeze)

until no one checks that no point in making loud noise.

I didn't and I will check as soon as possible (this means this weekend as
I'm going to be away for work this week)

As far as I have understood how vga switcheroo works I think it doesn't
break anything in Xorg (the switch is made via echoing in /sys, but the
actual switch is performed when restarting Xorg), but you're right this is a
thing worth to be checked.

NOTE: I'm reporting this bug against ia32-apt-get, even if it's probably caused

Bug#513222: [fglrx-driver]

2009-03-05 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 1:9-2-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I tried with 9.2.2... fglrx module is loaded, but unfortunately for me still
no joy...

Still black screen with backlight off :(
I'm attaching my Xorg.log: as you can see GLX now is loaded correctly.
btw: tlb problem and crash problem seem to be solved (at least for me...), as
I think my blank screen problem is caused by something else...

I've noticed second video card bios is reported having an invalid signature.
Could this be the problem? I don't know if this situation is normal for this
class of products (laptop with RS780 integrated graphics and discrete
HD3650).
Is there an option to be passed in xorg.conf to tell fglrx to completely
ignore the second video card (or disable Crossfire)?

Regards.

When starting X and LCD goes completely black, CRT flashes (trying to start X)
and then falls back to text console. (X does not start because of error in

Bug#513222: [fglrx-driver] Changes with 9-2-1 but still not working for me

2009-02-25 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 9-2-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Tested 9-2-1 with 2.6.26-1 amd64 stock kernel on an Asus M51Ta notebook with
RS780M (HD3200) and HD3650

I completely uninstalled old fglrx version (stuck with 8.7...), installed 9.2
and generated a clean xorg.conf with aticonfig --initial -f (attached)

Tested without kernel module:
started X and had a blank screen with backlight completely off

In Xorg.0.log (attached) no crashes (or at least no backtraces) but following
errors:
- Can not get FB MC address range
[...]
- Can not instancialize an adaptor
- Display Infrastructure Failed
[...]

Bug#513222: [Pkg-fglrx-devel] Bug#513222: Bug#513222: fglrx-driver: crashes Xorg

2009-02-06 Thread Daniele Benucci
2009/2/6 Patrick Matthäi patr...@linux-dev.org

Hm I think this should help, could you please verify it?

Go to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and comment out the Textured2D option (like
 Option Textured2D True).

Does it solve the issue for you?

Same problem for me (notebook with HD3200 and HD3650): 9.1 does not solve...
I've noticed that with this version backtrace is printed in log file only
with fglrx kernel module loaded, without kernel module no backtrace but
still blank screen.

Moreover I don't have any Textured2D option in my xorg.conf, so commenting
it if present seems not useful.

Regards,
Daniele

Bug#494183: [usplash] resolved... was not usplash fault

2008-08-12 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: usplash
Version: 0.5.19-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Today I upgraded linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 to version 2.6.26-2 (was 2.6.26-1)
and the problem disappeared: usplash shows correctly at boot and text
consoles are not garbled anymore (without vga=xxx kernel parameter)

It is clear it was kernel's fault and not usplash's, so I'm sorry for posting
the bug reporti in the wrong place and I'm closing this bug

Bug#494183: [usplash] Shows white screen with 2.6.26 kernel

2008-08-07 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: usplash
Version: 0.5.19-2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Using usplash as bootup splash screen with 2.6.26-1-686 stock kernel results
in a completely white screen during boot (in early boot phases white with
some black lines, as were text lines in vga=normal video mode).
X starts up correctly, but text consoles remain garbled (grey/white blinking
stripes on tty1, black/grey stripes in other ttys).
I'm not using any vga=xxx kernel parameter because it caused me problems
described in bugs #471741 and #483915, but usplash worked fine with previous
kernel versions: trying to add vga=791 as a kernel parameter usplash is
correctly shown, but problems reported in the cited bugs are still there.
Using nosplash kernel parameters consoles are ok (but of course usplash is
disabed).

I have a Nvidia FX5200Go video card, but I don't think this problem could be
related with proprietary drivers as it shows up early in the boot process
(before the kernel module is loaded), and it showed up even during the first
boot with 2.6.26, when the nvidia module wasn't compiled yet.

Bug#470618: hal: Battery bay not detected on a laptop running with disconnected battery

2008-04-02 Thread Daniele Benucci
2008/4/2, Sam Morris [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Could you clarify this for me?

I understand that if you boot up without a battery inserted, the battery
information is not present in the sysfs. I wonder what happens when you
insert a battery after booting up; does an entry for it appear in the
 sysfs?

Yes, a battery entry appears in the sysfs. And checking with
hal-find-by-capability --capability battery the battery is correctly
detected by hal too, without needing a hal restart.
But the power-managers (both kde-guidance-power-manager and kpowersave) have
to be restarted to correctly detect the inserted battery. After this restart
(with the battery inserted) the power-managers behave correctly even when
disconnecting the battery again.
In the end I think the problem is not hal's fault in detecting battery, but
somewhere between hal notifications to the power-managers and the
power-managers themselves (maybe they need updates or patches to correctly
deal with sysfs and newer versions of hal...)

Bug#470618: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#470618: hal: Battery bay not detected on a laptop running with disconnected battery

2008-03-14 Thread Daniele Benucci
2008/3/12, Michael Biebl [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

If sysfs is not updated, then that is a kernel bug.

Reasoning more on the problem I've come to the same conclusion, also because
if I power on the laptop with the battery and then remove it the state is
properly detected, and, before the last version of hal, with 2.6.24 kernel
only one battery was detected (obviously as not present) when powering on
with battery disconnected (and that was probably the procfs one).
Now I'm just wondering if there are plans to develop a workaround in hal (
e.g. cheching both sysfs and procfs interfaces but displaying only one)
until the kernel bug is resolved.

Bug#470618: hal: Battery bay not detected on a laptop running with disconnected battery

2008-03-12 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: hal
Version: 0.5.10+git20080301-1
Severity: important

When a laptop is powered on without a battery inserted, hal does not detect the
battery bay, so power managers can't suspect the computer supports a
battery and consequently disabling battery-powered related options in their
interface.
Moreover, inserting the battery later requires a restart of the hal daemon (and
of the power manager applet) to have the battery recognized.
May this bug be related to the recently introduced patch to fix the reporting
of two batteries, since sysfs does not provide informations about battery when
it's disconnected, while /proc does (in /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state)?
