Bug#979398: reportbug: mnemosyne package should probably have python3-gtts as a dependency

2021-01-06 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: mnemosyne
Version: 2.7.3+ds1-1
Severity: minor

Running the mnemosyne command (when the mnemosyne package is installed, but the
python3-gtts package is not) on one of the installations I tested this
situation on gives the following output.:
Warning: Could not import OpenGL. Might cause a black screen on some Linux
distributions. Try installing python3-opengl in that case.

The machine was restored via backup. I can retry this evening.

would you like me to 'apt-get install -y perl-base' after 'apt-get
upgrade' and before 'apt-get dist-upgrade', or after 'apt-get
 dist-upgrade' breaks ?

Anyways, about the actual bug report, I'm unsure as to what I need to give you

Bug#718502: xfce4-panel: Window buttons applet has windows pushed out to the right (outside of the monitor's view)

2013-08-01 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.10.1-1
Severity: normal

In Debian stable/wheezy, when there are many windows open at the same time, the
windows shrink in width until there are too many windows then, I get a little
arrow on the right of my last visible window button and the visible window
buttons are regularly-sized.

In this installation (using Debian testing/jessie), the windows do not shrink
or get that arrow that helps to keep the windows all visually accessible;
instead, they just get pushed out of sight, pushing my workspace switcher out
of sight as well, for example.

If more information is needed, just ask.

Bug#586383: Relatively minor Atheros AR242x wireless card light flickering issue with Linux kernel 2.6.32 to 3.5.2 (ath5k driver)

2012-08-25 Thread Deniz Akcal

Hi
Jonathan.

The
behaviour is unexpected and it is undesirable because I believe the
light should be orange only when pressing the button which disables
the device. In the past, the ath5k driver worked at a rate of 1 Mb/s
rather than the 54 Mb/s that it’s working at now (as mentioned
previously) according to gnome’s network manager applet but I have
never noticed anything qualitatively wrong other than the light
flicker. Most importantly, long ago, prior to removing the
pre-installed copy of Windows Vista, I recall the hardware not
behaving like this (and the light was a constant blue when the
network was enabled and orange when it was disabled).

Bug#586383: [lenny-backports] Atheros AR242x wireless card relatively minor issues with Linux kernel 2.6.32 in Lenny (ath5k driver)

2012-08-24 Thread Deniz Akcal

Sorry for the very late response. I'm now running the 3.5.2 amd64 kernel like
you asked, to see if the light flickers. Sadly, it still does flicker. Also,
the ath5k driver runs at 54 Mb/s (just saying in case it matters) as opposed to
the 1 Mb/s that I had written in that old report back with Lenny.

Ok, nice to hear. (Nice to hear because it means we have a better
 chance of fixing it.)

Could you try the 3.4.y kernel from experimental and see if that
produces the same symptoms (it probably will)? If it does, please
contact linux-wirel...@vger.kernel.org to get an explanation of the
symptoms, cc-ing ath5k-de...@lists.ath5k.org and either me or this bug

  - exact steps to reproduce (how do you connect, etc), expected
result, actual result, and how the difference is unexpected
(something similar to the explanation you gave before should
work fine for this)

  - which kernel versions you have tested and what happened with
each

  - a link to http://bugs.debian.org/586383 for context

They should be able to say if this is a bug or an expected

able to say what a good next step for investigating in pursuit
 of a fix would be.

 Thanks for the quick feedback.

Bug#586383: Relatively minor Atheros AR242x wireless card light flickering issue with Linux kernel 2.6.32 to 3.5.2 (ath5k driver)

2012-08-24 Thread Deniz Akcal
Hello. This is a continuation of the Debian bug #586383 (
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=586383 ) filed long ago. As
a test run I booted into my system with the latest Linux 3.5.2
kernel. Upon booting, the network activity light is orange only.
After selecting the 3.5.2 kernel, while loading, the light remained
orange. I think the first moment I noticed that it turned blue was when the
udev daemon loaded (this was from looking at what the screen said when the
system was
loading at the moment I noticed the colour change). After this, I
noticed minor flickering and then the light was completely orange again.
When gdm3 (the GNOME display manager) started, the light became blue
again and stayed blue for a while. Right after logging in, the light
turned orange again but perhaps it’s because I wasn’t connected
to the Internet. Once I connected to my network, the light flickered
at a faster, medium pace and occasionally stayed blue for a long-ish
while (many minutes). I think the pattern is that when the data
transfers through the wireless card (such as by going to the
internet), it activates the flicker when the colour is blue for a
long time and if it’s already flickering then, it increases the
rate of the flickering.

This
issue was present for a long time. I remember having it since Debian
5.0 Lenny (with the 2.6.32 kernel) but I’m not sure if that’s
when the issue was introduced since, if I recall correctly, I didn’t
have this hardware before then. It probably was the first kernel
which supported this wireless card since I had upgraded the kernel
just for the wireless network and I vaguely remember something of the sort
being the case so the issue may have been there from
the start of the ath5k driver’s integration to the kernel.

This
is my wireless card (which is inside the HP G50 laptop) from lscpi:

Bug#680694: alarm-clock-applet: Primary click behaves as secondary click when clicking on the alarm clock icon on the panel

I tested on two different computers running the exact same Debian

right-handed or left-handed individuals, the problem is the same.
Secondary clicking works correctly; that is, it seems that both primary and
secondary clicks are treated as secondary clicks regardless of the mouse setup.

Bug#677682: xfce4: Waking up from hibernation shows what's open before being locked

2012-06-15 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: xfce4
Version: 4.8.0.3
Severity: minor

Waking up from hibernation shows which windows were open prior to hibernation
(should not happen) and then locks the screen as soon as it can before
allowing anyone to use the computer without being logged in.

The computer should wake up in a locked state rather than locking upon waking
the computer because it generally takes long to move the data from the HDD's
swap to the RAM which could potentially expose private stuff to someone else
using the same computer.

If more specific details are required, do not hesitate to contact me.

Bug#654952: Info received (Bug#654952: gnome-terminal: Transparent background stopped working in a recent update in Wheezy/Testing)

2012-01-09 Thread Deniz Akcal

It works after making the desktop use nautilus (I think that's what did it) BUT
it used to work properly before with xfdesktop so it still is a bug technically
I would say.

It used to work fine in Xfce 4.8.0.3 as well until the update happened. Is
there anything I can check and show you?

Bug#632248: linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64: Copying from my external Western Digital hard drive gives Error splicing file: Input/output error error

2011-07-03 Thread Deniz Akcal

I unfortunately think you were right since now both my Linux computers are
telling me that my hard drive might die at any moment but having reformatted
from scratch still has it saying that and gnome-disk-utility crashes (not
actual program crashes) on self-tests however, during all this chaos, it seems
to work perfectly fine and copying Windows stuff like games (=not data I
use/make in Linux) seemed to not causes issues even before the reformatting.
Now, nothing causes problems! (Except the constant nagging). Is it normal for
the drive to work perfectly on its way to death or is there still hope for me
(and work for you lol)? This drive is probably about a year old so I'm really
unlucky especially since it was a gift and I don't have the receipt.

Bug#632248: linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64: Copying from my external Western Digital hard drive gives Error splicing file: Input/output error error

2011-06-30 Thread Deniz Akcal

deniz@debian:~$ lsusb | grep Western
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1058:070a Western Digital Technologies, Inc. My Passport
Essential SE
deniz@debian:~$

I am reporting this from Debian Wheezy/Testing but this also happens when using
Squeeze's backported 2.6.38 kernel. It even occurs with Squeezes 2.6.32 main
stable kernel! It gives
the same or similar errror whether I do it via the CLI or the GNOME UI. I also
tried with superuser privileges.

I think that this error causes certain files to not be copied. Reading this
Ubuntu thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1500384) leads me to
believe that it's an issue
with external drives in general or using ext4. I tried copying using the GNOME
UI with the Skip all option when confronted with the error and I ended up
with certain files missing.
There are many more threads from the looks of it:
http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?Gw=Error+splicing+file%3A+Input%2Foutput+error

If more information is needed or if you want me to do some additional testing,
just ask.

P.S.
I also think it's likely that this bug carries through to newer kernels than
the one I am filing the bug for but I am filing it for this version since this
is the latest version that
I have tested since the most recent Linux distro I run is Debian Wheezy/Testing.

From the description it’s just the default GTK3 theme that’s applied.
Install the last gnome-themes package from unstable and select Adwaita
(which is now the default) as theme, this should work fine.

Bug#631883: Google talk audio call attempt crashes empathy

2011-06-27 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: empathy
Version: 2.30.3-1+b2
Severity: important

Empathy crashes and it crashes at the instant I click audio call (I have yet to
test video calls). I suspect this might be the same as bugs #625706 and #616681
but I am re-reporting
this since the version I am using is slightly different and that might make a
difference. If more information is needed, just ask.

Bug#619972: gnome-power-manager: I also have this issue in Squeeze

2011-05-29 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.32.0-2
Severity: normal

I did not have this before. I think an update this but I'm not sure and I
didn't report the bug until now since I had other things to do but it still
happened fairly recently
to me (a matter of days). The hibernate command works and resumes normally but
when I hibernate the GNOME way, it hibernates fine but upon resuming the
computer (from a GNOME
hibernation), the computer hangs with a blinking cursor and my fan starts
spinning fast and the hard drive is not spinning at all. I have to force the
computer to restart
and the filesystem has to recover the journal, etc. The laptop I am using is
HP's G50. Again, Squeeze/Stable did not cause me this issue until recently so
something must have
changed recently.

I can confirm this on two different Debian Stable/Squeeze computers. I'm using

applets that it defeats the purpose of using the applet since its not

Bug#612242: tracker: Really high CPU Usage and Memory Leak

2011-02-06 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: tracker
Version: 0.8.17-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I was trying to figure out why my computer is super slow to the point that I
have to do a hard reboot to have it useable again and I found the
tracker-store process to use 90-100% CPU (I think when it
shouldn't be due to pausing or something) but more prominently I watch (with
gnome-system-monitor) the memory increase from around 5MB to over 3GB! The
uptime on the time before typing this was 16 minutes
and I had to kill the process so that my computer can be useable.

If more information is needed, just ask.

Bug#595445: gdm3: Does not hibernate via the GUI

2011-01-01 Thread Deniz Akcal

Hi, I just wanted to ask if there is any progress on the issue or if it will be
addressed later on or something.

Bug#608537: The kdenlive player plays garbled colours when trying to play ogv files

2011-01-01 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: kdenlive
Version: 0.7.8-1
Severity: important

You could still tell what the video is showing but you have to focus hard.
Other than that everything is fine including the sound.
If more information is needed, do not hesitate to ask!

Bug#608235: gnome-terminal: There should be an option to change terminal background upon resizing

2010-12-28 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.30.2-1
Severity: wishlist

There should be an option that allows the user to have a certain image on the
default terminal size and another one when maximized instead of only one image
option since, if you optimized the image
for the default terminal size, the image will be tiled when the terminal is
maximized. In addition, there should be other options such as having a
background image upon default size and transparency
when maximized.

Bug#607954: k3b: Verification fails always (even though burn is successful)

2010-12-24 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: k3b
Version: 2.0.0-1
Severity: important

I burned 6 DVD discs (Debian 5.0.7 amd64 iso image) and they all failed on the
verification process and then I used other software and it burnt AND VERIFIED
successfully. I tried to check the md5sum
but I don't think I'm doing it correctly which gives me a wrong md5 sum but
still the trial and error indicates that this is a present bug. To confirm, it
would be nice if you guys help me do it properly.

What I did do, however, was:
dd if=/dev/scd0 bs=1 count=4696686592 | md5sum

I got the count by doing ls -la | grep debian while being in the directory of
the ISO file. I would appreciate it if I could be told whether I'm doing it
correctly or not. I haven't checked the md5 sums
of each disc I burned though.

Bug#590881: deluge-torrent: Deluge cannot be restarted when using port 443

2010-07-29 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: deluge-torrent
Version: 0.5.9.3-1
Severity: important

When using port 443, the program works well but when you close it and
try to start it again, it does not start. In order to make it start, one
needs to remove the prefs.state file and then reconfigure the settings
each time. A workaround is to change the port used right before closing
the software and then set it back when re-launching it as opposed to
having to reconfigure everything else as well. I don't know if this bug
will be ignored since Lenny is not so new but I am sending this bug
report just in case.

Bug#589773: Add new upstream stable wine

2010-07-20 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: wine
Version: 1.0.1-3

The new Wine 1.2 is the upstream stable version and I believe it should
added to Squeeze given that it would mean having a more recent Wine as well
as one that is better supported.

Bug#586492: xchat: When typing so much that it surpasses the end of the typing area, the view does not follow

2010-06-19 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: xchat
Version: 2.8.6-2.1
Severity: minor

When typing so much that it surpasses the end of the typing area, the view does
not follow. If you want to see what you're typing toward the end, you have to
press backspace which is annoying because
it deletes a character and then as soon as you continue typing, you can't see
what you're typing again. Although I listed this as a minor bug because it's
not a feature disfunctionality, it is really
annoying to deal with. I have my doubts that this will be considered to fix
given that this is the current stable release and this is not a
release-critical bug but I thought I should try filing a bug
report just in case.

Bug#586383: linux-image-2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64: Atheros AR242x wireless card relatively minor issues with Linux kernel 2.6.32 in Lenny (ath5k driver)

2010-06-18 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-15~bpo50+1
Severity: normal

( lspci gives: 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc.
AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01) )
I am using the ath5k driver and when I upgraded from 2.6.30 to 2.6.32 in
Lenny, I got a little excited because I saw that the light was blue like
when I had first
purchased it when I had Windows Vista pre-installed on this laptop. For
a long time I had it at orange (although it worked). (Orange means it's
disabled) Sometimes, it
alternates between blue and orange either at long or extremely short
intervals (the occurences seem very random). I don't have Windows
installed to double check but it
seems rather impossible to disable it (not that I want to but I just
wanted to add more to the bug report since it technically is a feature).
The more important part (for
me) of this bug report is that the light switches colour occasionally
which could at times being distracting but as I type this, the light
hasn't flickered for a
pretty long time but I'm pretty confident that it will again because the
intervals vary. Although the performance is not affected, Connection
Information on the Gnome
panel lists it as running as 1MB/s but I don't feel any slowdowns.

If more information is needed, just email me.

Followup-For: Bug #586383

I just wanted to add that now Connection
Information says that ath5k is running at 5MB/s. I don't think there is
a problem here. The only issues are the minor blue/orange switching and
the feature to disable the wireless using hardware. I forgot to mention
that my laptop is an HP G50-113CA. (I think only the G50 part is
important but I'm including the full name anyways)

2010-04-17 Thread Deniz Akcal

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: moblock
  Version : 1.4.3 (I think - not sure)
  Upstream Author : Unknown
* URL : http://moblock-deb.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Unknown
Description : moblock-deb provides packages related to IP blocking
software, similar to PeerGuardian: In order to protect your privacy internet
traffic is blocked based on large lists of IP address ranges. The packages are
MoBlock, NFBlock, blockcontrol and mobloquer.

Features:
blockcontrol has the following features:

* Start and stop IP block daemon. Or let init do this automatically.
* Update your blocklist from online sources and local blocklists. Or let
cron do this automatically on a regular basis.
* Remove lines by keyword from the blocklists.
* Handle your iptables rules: use a default setup, easily allow all traffic
on specific ports and use an allow list, or add your own sophisticated iptables
rules.
* Allow all LAN traffic and the DNS server automatically. If you are on a
public LAN, you probably want to disable this feature.
* Check the status and test the IP block daemon.
* A watchdog monitors the IP block daemon and restarts blockcontrol if
necessary.
* Detects if kernel modules are needed and loads them if necessary.
* Set verbosity and logging options.
* Provides LSB 3.1 compatible init script.
* Daily rotation of the logfiles.

Bug#515567: gnome-system-monitor: This issue existed for so long and is still not solved

2009-12-29 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: gnome-system-monitor
Version: 2.28.0-1
Severity: normal

This issue still exists after so long. If you run gnome-system-monitor as root,
there will be no issues but running it as root only sees root applications and
even if it does see the user processed,
this is a bug and gnome-system-monitor should allow regular users to increase
the process priority (decrease in the numerical value). This is probably not
given importance because CPUs today are more
powerful but when you're running an application such as a game that uses up all
of your system ressources and you want to get the most out of your CPU, this
proves to be very useful.

Bug#561897: base: Regular key combinations that work in other OSes such as Ubuntu and Windows and Lenny don't work in Squeeze

2009-12-20 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: base
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

I filed a bug before that wasn't really addressed and I found a new bug so I
will include the previous bug in this message as well since they're similar
bugs.

Previous bug: (GNOME) System -- Preferences -- Keyboard Shortcuts then when I
attempt to assign either one of my super user keys to the Open a terminal
window shortcut. I tried this in Ubuntu 9.10 as well (which uses GNOME 2.28
like Squeeze) and it doesn't work there either. I tried on two different
computers. I tested with the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 and the 64 bit
version of Debian Squeeze.

New bug: In any other OS I've used, when a window is in focus and you press alt
and the space bar and then press x for example you can maximize a window. Given
that Ubuntu 9.10 has the same version of GNOME, I tried to see if the bug
existed there as well and it didn't.

If any additional information is needed, do not hesitate to ask.

Bug#548502: mnemosyne: Allow to integrate handwriting in Question and Answer Box

2009-09-26 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: mnemosyne
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: wishlist

It would be very useful for people like me who have digital pens
(tablets) to write directly into Mnemosyne than to have to draw things
in Gimp then have to save the image in Mnemosyne's file directory
(not necessary
but the most convenient at this point). I am talking about something
like Windows Live Messenger handwriting input that Windows has.

only picked up as of version 1.2.2 and sid currently has 1.2.5 so I obtained

Bug#540426: RFP: acetoneiso -- AcetoneISO is a Free Software program to mount and manage image files

2009-08-07 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

This GUI software allows us to mount many file types and not just .iso files.
It only works on i386 and amd64 though so I don't know if that'll get
in the way of the Debian policy. Perhaps something about this program could be
altered to work on other architectures given that it is open source?

AcetoneISO, is a feature-rich and complete software application to manage
CD/DVD images. Thanks to powerful open source tools such as fuseiso,
AcetoneISO will let You mount typical proprietary images formats of the Windows
world such as ISO BIN NRG MDF IMG and do plenty of other things.

Bug#539234: closed by Holger Levsen hol...@layer-acht.org (Re: Bug#539234: base: Booting from hibernation has super slow cursor movement etc!)

2009-08-03 Thread Deniz Akcal

The cursor movement is extremely laggish after booting after resuming
from a hibernation-state only. I do not experience such behaviour in
Lenny nor in Squeeze (on a regular bootup). The laggish movement does
not fix itself even after waiting a significant amount of time. I also
checked in System Monitor and I do not remember exactly what I saw but
I remember thinking it was either no swap used or a very tiny amount.
But even then, my Lenny computer has a 5400 RPM hard drive while this
computer (with Squeeze) has a 7200 RPM hard drive.

This is actually a bug and not some useless report this time. If you
have more questions that you need to ask in order to understand what is
going on, ask them.

I don't have a CD to burn nor do I have the 64 bit version. I tried to use

Bug#537956: The problem is not only with the super user keys!‏

2009-07-28 Thread Deniz Akcal

I found the pattern! The issue is that it no longer allows me to use 1 key
shortcuts. It forces the shortcuts to be a combination of at least two keys.

(Sorry I for double post - the previous message didn't send because Windows
Live Hotmail has a conflict with Epiphany's user agent so I used Iceweasel with
the Firefox user agent - not that it matters but just explaining)

The same problem exists in Lenny but since Debian stable only receives
critical bug updates then I'd at least file this for Squeeze. Lowering
the nice value (increasing the priority) has absolutely no effect and
crashes gnome-system-monitor while increasing the nice value (lowering
the priority) does not crash gnome-system-monitor and it also works!

Both work fine for me with 2.26.2. Also Ubuntu 9.04 ships 2.26 so if it's
 fixed
there the version matches. Please, reopen if it still happens for you.

 Cheers,
 Emilio

Bug#534734: gdm: Windows lose their borders when they are maximized!

Bug#534626: base: Windows lose their borders when they are maximized!

2009-06-25 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: base
Severity: important

When any window is maximized, the border of the window does not show! My
temporary fix is to not have the windows maximized and to stretch them
diagonally which is somewhat annoying.

Bug#534627: mnemosyne: Mnemosyne fails to launch on two seperate installations!

2009-06-25 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: mnemosyne
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Whether run as root or user, mnemosyne never runs! The closest it has been to
running is
saying Either Mnemosyne didn't shut down properly, or another copy of
Mnemosyne is still
running. Continuing in the latter case could lead to data loss! giving the
options Exit or
Continue both of which do absolutely nothing. The first time I experienced
this issue on
Squeeze (previous installation on same computer - I've had to reinstall my
operating system
since then), I thought that I could just solve this issue by removing the
config files in
Mnemosyne's home directory. That solved this little error message on Lenny,
Windows, and
earlier on in Squeeze if I'm not mistaken. However, now, the problem does not
go away and
Mnemosyne doesn't even run at all!

Bug#533720: base: Ever since GNOME is newer than Lenny, snow-apple icon theme no longer works!

2009-06-19 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: base
Severity: normal

Lenny does not have this issue. This is not a Debian-specific issue. In fact, I
think it could be a GNOME-wide issue since Ubuntu also suffers from this. The
snow-apple icon theme is selected when
attempting to customize themes however the folders and icons remain with the
same (in my opinion) ugly GNOME default icons.

Bug#530423: Lowering nice value (increasing priority) does not work and crashes gnome-system-monitor!

2009-05-24 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: gnome-system-monitor
Version: 2.24.4-1
Severity: normal

The same problem exists in Lenny but since Debian stable only receives
critical bug updates then I'd at least file this for Squeeze. Lowering
the nice value (increasing the priority) has absolutely no effect and
crashes gnome-system-monitor while increasing the nice value (lowering
the priority) does not crash gnome-system-monitor and it also works!

Lowering and increasing the nice value both work and do not crash when
gnome-system-monitor is run as root!

Mnemosyne should allow for multiple .mem files (or any other file it can work
with) to be used at the same time whether through the use of multiple windows
or tabs! Personally, I think the use of
tabs would be better since you'll have all the subjects you want to study in
one window but both should be implemented. This is useful when reviewing for
exams as well as studying for two subjects
if you have two tests in the same day.

I have these .jpeg and .png files on my desktop and when I right click on them
and choose properties instead of giving me the properties, it opens it super
quick then closes before my brain could
even grasp the information then opens my home folder. This does NOT happen when
I right click and select properties on a .pdf or .ogv file for example.

If more information is needed, ask!
