Bug#1060734: Add more dev dependencies
Package: libsail0 Version: 0.9.0+repack-2 Hi! There are missing dependencies for -dev packages that are not currently installed and need manual installation: libsail-dev should depend on libsail-common-dev libsail-c++-dev should depend on libsail-dev and libsail-manip-dev
Bug#1059743: Libsail should depend on sail-codecs
Package: libsail0 Version: 0.9.0+repack-1 Libsail is a high-level API for SAIL codecs. Since sail-codecs is not a dependency and most likely is not installed, libsail is unusable in this configuration. The fix is to make libsail dependent on sail-codecs of the same version (e.g. =version).

Bug#1053729: RFP: SAIL image decoding library
Hi! > Does it produce desired Debian packages? I've just pushed a couple of fixes to the Debian rules. I'm able to build packages on LUbuntu 23.04. Maybe a couple of small fixes are still needed to build packages on Debian. So the recommended git sha to use is 4705cb4cf96. It's a release candidate and ready to use in client applications. > Are these packages lintian-clean? No, I didn't. The problem is still exist, and exist only in reportbug. The font breaks this application. If I create a PNG file which breaks libpng, it is usually marked a critical bug. But if font breaks font renderer it's ok you think? This can be an application problem, or font renderer. Bug#599476: investigation
Since no one tried to troubleshoot this, I did it by myself. I cleared environment from all variables and started to add them back one by one. Then I found that * GTK2_RC_FILES=/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:/home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0:/home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0-kde:/home/krasu/.kde/share/config/gtkrc-2.0 * is causing the problem. I removed all working components from this variable, and found that *~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde* OR *~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde* are causing the problem. Config files themselves: * $ cat /home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0 # -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT include /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc style user-font { font_name = Tahoma 8 } widget_class * style user-font gtk-font-name=Tahoma 8 include /home/krasu/.gtkrc.mine # -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT $ cat /home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0-kde # This file was written by KDE # You can edit it in the KDE control center, under GTK Styles and Fonts include /usr/share/themes/Qt4/gtk-2.0/gtkrc style user-font { font_name=Tahoma } gtk-theme-name=Qt4 gtk-font-name=Tahoma 8 * The bug is reproduced when *GTK2_RC_FILES=/home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0* or when * GTK2_RC_FILES=/home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0-kde*. Then I set *export GTK2_RC_FILES=/home/krasu/.gtkrc-2.0* and tried to debug a little bit this config file. Finally I found that *gtk-font-name=Tahoma 8* is causing the problem. This file was written by gtk-chtheme. I don't know HOW can font size break reportbug's GTK frontend, but it breaks. All other GTK apps (native apps w/o python bindings) work fine. So, as I already said, this is a bug in reportbug or python-gtk2. -- Regards, Krasu

Bug#586605: firmware-b43-installer: do not fail on kernel version mismatch
Hi, Fabrizio. I believe comparing root inodes is a better way, because /debootstrap/ may not exist. 2011/1/28 Fabrizio Regalli fab...@fabreg.it Hi Dmitry, Nope, one again: installation of firmware-b43-installer will fail in a debootstrapped environment (NOT a host system). For example, host system has 2.6.18, debootstrapped system doesn't have kernel at all. At this time I cannot install firmware-b43-installer in debootstrapped system. Postinst script should determine the debootstrapped system (based on comparing root inodes like it's done in udev's postinst) and bypass kernel check in such system, and (probably) show a warning that it fail to work on 2.6.25, so it will be my headache to provide a suitable kernel for my debootstrapped system. Ok, basically you want to install the package during the installation process or something like that. The simplest check could be look for /debootstrap/ directory and if it exists return a message something like you are in debootstrap. mininum kernel required is 2.6.25 do you want continue? Y/N If Y, skip the kernel check and install it. Another way, little bit more complex, is to compare the root inodes like udev. It's clear now. I'm working for fix this issue. Ciao. Bug#586605: firmware-b43-installer: do not fail on kernel version mismatch
2011/1/27 Fabrizio Regalli fab...@fabreg.it Hi, firmware-b43-installer currently fails in postinst script on kernel versions 2.6.25. This makes impossible to install firmware-b43-installer in the deboostrapped environment, since it may not have a kernel at all, but the host system has 2.6.18 or similar. postinst script should ask if it's ok to install firmware-b43-installer anyway (like udev does). from NEWS file: ... b43-fwcutter (1:011-5) unstable; urgency=high * This version of the package installs the firmware suitable for kernels = 2.6.25. It will do so unconditionally on upgrades and this break usage with 2.6.24. If you for some reason still want to use 2.6.24, please backup your old /lib/firmware/b43. A kernel greater than (or equal) 2.6.25 is required otherwise the firmware will not work. My suggest is to close this bug. Nope, one again: installation of firmware-b43-installer will fail in a debootstrapped environment (NOT a host system). For example, host system has 2.6.18, debootstrapped system doesn't have kernel at all. At this time I cannot install firmware-b43-installer in debootstrapped system. Bug#596656: boinc-client: cannot find GPU
Hello. No, this is wrong. When people install BOINC, they think that it will use GPU, and they will use CPU for their own tasks. But this is wrong, because boinc doesn't use GPU at all. README will not solve the problem, because the package is broken by default, this is not something extraordinary but a common case, which will be reproduced everywhere in nVidia environment. I think we should add a dependency on X login manager (kdm | gdm | xdm | etc) and change startup level with update-rc.d to let boinc start after that login manager. Otherwise, as I already said, the package is broken, and this is not the thing people expect to see. -- Regards, Krasu
Bug#596656: boinc-client: cannot find GPU
Hello. The other solution (and I think better solution) is to divide boinc-client into 3 parts: 1) kernel part 2) bonc-client-x 3) boinc-client-cli [2] and [3] will depend on [1] [2] will require X login manager [3] will work in CLI And this should be documented in package descriptions, that If you want to use GPU, please install bonc-client-x. Otherwise install bonc-client-cli. -- Regards, Krasu

2009/9/23 Elimar Riesebieter riese...@lxtec.de: * Dmitry Baryshev [090923 01:11 +0300] 2009/9/19 Dmitry Baryshev ksquirrel...@gmail.com: alsa-lib builds fine as you can check the build logs at http://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=alsa-lib. I can reproduce this bug on two different machines running Lenny 5.0.3, I tried debuild and it seems to work fine, but I CAN reproduce the bug with dpkg-buildpackage. This bug is a fantom bug - sometimes it can be reproduced and sometimes can not on the same machine. This means that some of the things are broken - alsa patches or build tools. I don't know exactly, but I built many packages with dpkg-buildpackage w/o problems, and with alsa I get sometimes errors like that. But at the moment I don't know why you want to rebuild alsa-lib? I'd like to build alsa without asserts (with -DNDEBUG) -- Regards, Krasu. debuild still _sometimes_ fails. Log is attached. As I already said, I was able to reproduce this bug on two different machines running Lenny 5.0.3. First is based on Athlon X2 5600, second on Intel Core Quad. Both machines had 5.0 as base installation, and had been upgraded to 5.0.3 with aptitude update aptitude safe-upgrade Please run 'LC_ALL=C debuild' as I can't interpret the hyroglyphes of your LANG. Else the best way to test building DEBIAN packages is to run it ina clean chroot. i.e. pbuilder can do that for you. For this to try please first read RTFM. I won't support you to set up pbuilder.
