Bug#925408: needrestart: false positive: gnome-session-binary, gnome-shell

2019-03-31 Thread Donald Pellegrino
I performed a shutdown and then did a new boot. I then logged into a
GNOME session and ran the following in GNOME Terminal. Note that the
uCode/Intel messages are not relevant on this system as it is running
an AMD Phenom II X3 720 Processor.

$ sudo needrestart -v

Bug#925408: needrestart: false positive: gnome-session-binary, gnome-shell

2019-03-24 Thread Donald Pellegrino
Package: needrestart
Version: 3.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After a reboot of the system, followed by a graphical login to GNOME
desktop, running GNOME Terminal and "$ sudo needrestart" gives the
following output:

---

Scanning processes...
Scanning candidates...
Scanning linux images...

Running kernel seems to be up-to-date.

Failed to check for processor microcode upgrades.

No services need to be restarted.

No containers need to be restarted.

User sessions running outdated binaries:
 don @ session #2: gnome-session-b[1126], gnome-shell[1198]

---

This appears to be a false positive report of gnome-session-binary and
gnome-session as outdated binaries. Since the system had just been
restarted, these should be up-to-date binaries.

Bug#500795: Etch SPARC install fails to sync monitor.

2008-10-01 Thread Donald Pellegrino
Package: installation-reports
Version: 4.0r4

The installer used is the Small CD image for sparc
(http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r4a/sparc/iso-cd/debian-40r4a-sparc-netinst.iso).
The hardware is a SunBlade 2000 with a Sun PGX64 graphics card. An LCD
monitor is connected to the PGX64. After the Booting Linux line reported by
the installer the monitor goes out of sync and nothing further is reported.

My initial guess is that the installer is trying to change graphic modes at
this step and that it picks one that the monitor does not support. This may be
related to Debian Bug report #308610. I tried install DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text
as per http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/sparc/ch05s02.html.en however this
did not have any effect. The manual reports that Generally, only the newt
frontend is available on default install media. so I don't know if this
parameter actually does anything.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for keeping the installer from
changing graphic modes or for specifying the appropriate monitor frequency to
the installer.
