Bug#1073042: RFP: gtkman -- A simple GTK+3 manual page viewer
Package: gtkman Severity: wishlist A simple GTK+3 manual page viewer This seems like a very nifty and simple GUI for manpages to port from Salix (where it originates from). Installing from source was not a problem on Debian 12. Please consider adding this to unstable. Thank you. Upstream: https://github.com/gapan/gtkman
Bug#1037540: Thunar (4.18.4-1) Segfaults If Using Tab Key While Using Split View
Package: thunar Version: 4.18.4-1 Severity: grave Hello, Thunar has been regularly crashing if using the current stable build with split view enabled. To reproduce this issue, open a new Thunar instance, enable split view, and have one of the directories contain images, focus on the image-containing directory, and then press the Tab key multiple times until it crashes. Terminal output: https://pastebin.com/2mpdYyUb This has been apparently fixed upstream with 4.18.5, but linking it here anyway for your information: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/-/issues/1067 Thank you.
Bug#1035337: RFP: apt-fast -- A shellscript wrapper for apt that speeds up downloading of packages.
Package: apt-fast Severity: wishlist Hello, I think with other package managers like Pacman already supporting parallel downloading for years, it would be time for Apt to do the same. Apt-fast seems to be the temporary solution for now, but it remains an unofficial Debian/Ubuntu package with DEBs hosted via a PPA (https://code.launchpad.net/~apt-fast/+archive/stable). I think something like this would be absolutely crucial for Debian-based systems, as there are times when Apt can be painfully slow, thus turning off a lot of people (especially when it comes to distribution upgrades). I think either making this available as a separate package or having its core functionality adopted for Apt would be great. Please consider something like this for Trixie (since we are deep in the Bookworm freeze). Thank you. Upstream: https://github.com/ilikenwf/apt-fast
Bug#1035111: RFP: ticker -- Terminal stock ticker with live updates and position tracking
Package: ticker Severity: wishlist Hello, I noticed there is a lack of functional stock ticker packages for Debian (and maybe GNU/Linux in general) that I've come across one via GitHub that is cli-based and has a good layout. You can set which stocks to view in the config file or append them to the command. There are DEB files provided by the author here (they work on Debian Bullseye, Bookworm, and Sid): https://github.com/achannarasappa/ticker/releases/tag/v4.5.6 It would be nice to have this packaged for Debian officially. Thank you. Upstream: https://github.com/achannarasappa/ticker
Bug#1034705: RFP: newsboat -- text mode rss feed reader with podcast support
Package: newsboat Severity: wishlist Will the maintainer(s) kindly provide a newer version of this package for Debian Sid? Checking upstream, I can see that the latest stable build is 2.30.1 (released on December 30, 2022), whereas the Debian Sid version is 2.21 (released on September 20, 2020). I think it's time this package got updated. Thank you. Upstream: https://github.com/newsboat/newsboat
Bug#1034657: RFP: cafe-desktop -- This desktop environment is MATE desktop fork, and works with CTK (GTK3 fork).
Package: cafe-desktop Severity: wishlist There is a MATE fork called CAFE, which uses the CTK toolkit (forked from GTK3). Seems there has been quite a bit of work in progress over the past year, and there are DEB files provided upstream. I have tested this on a VM with the forked packages, and it's running decently stable. I think this would be a good addition to Debian's repositories for anyone who likes MATE but isn't optimistic about GTK's future. Please take a look and consider its inclusion. Thank you. Bug#1031595: RFP: ventoy -- Ventoy is an open source tool to create bootable USB drive for ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI files.
Package: ventoy Severity: wishlist Ventoy is an open source tool to create bootable USB drive for ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI files. With ventoy, you don't need to format the disk over and over, you just need to copy the image files to the USB drive and boot it. You can copy many image files at a time and ventoy will give you a boot menu to select them. I know there is a freeze already and it might be a little too late, but I think this would be a great tool to include in Sid. The standalone binaries work just fine, but it would be more convenient to update it through the package manager (thus the version on the USB device updates). MultiBootUSB hasn't been updated in years, and it's a bit tricky to get working, whereas Ventoy does it with ease. You can check the GitHub for lists of all known distros that Ventoy works on. Thanks in advance. Upstream: https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy
Bug#1029458: RFP: sorr -- Remake of all the original Sega beat-'em-up games Streets of Rage 1, 2, and 3 - thrown into one complete package.
Package: sorr Severity: wishlist Remake of all the original Sega beat-'em-up games Streets of Rage 1, 2, and 3 - thrown into one complete package. The latest stable release upstream is 5.2. There exists a DEB package from the defunct ubuntugames.org for 5.1, and it runs without any issues on Debian. I'm aware there is no "source code" for this and would technically go under non-free, but I would hope if this could be packaged for Debian. Someone packaged 5.2 for Guix (https://sorr.forumotion.net/t858-version-5-2-for-gnu-linux-guix-package) and another one provides a Flatpak for it (https://sorr.forumotion.net/t708-sorr-flatpak-opengl-wrapper-for-linux), but an exclusive Debian build would be great. Providing a link to the DEB file for reference. Thank you in advance. Bug#1029456: RFP: veracrypt -- Cross-platform on-the-fly encryption.
Package: veracrypt Severity: wishlist Cross-platform on-the-fly encryption. VeraCrypt provides cross-platform on-the-fly encryption for Linux, MacOS X and Windows. It can encrypt filesystems stored either within a file or on disk partitions. Supported encryption algorithms include AES, Serpent and Twofish. The current version uses the XTS mode of disk encryption. In addition, VeraCrypt supports "hidden volumes" - unidentifiable volumes present in the free-space of a VeraCrypt volume. VeraCrypt is a fork of the old TrueCrypt. I know there are official DEB files for VeraCrypt provided on their Web site (link below), but it's not a repository, and the only repositories I can find are unofficial OBS ones (such as https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/unit193:/veracrypt). I think this would technically be in contrib, since it uses non-free code/licensing. Nonetheless, I think this would be a good addition to the Debian repositories, as there aren't that many other viable file/partition encryption alternatives. Thank you. Upstream: https://veracrypt.fr/en/Downloads.html
Bug#1029455: RFP: easyrpg-player -- RPG Maker 2000/2003 and EasyRPG game interpreter.
Package: easyrpg-player Severity: wishlist RPG Maker 2000/2003 and EasyRPG game interpreter. EasyRPG Player is a program that allows to play games created with RPG Maker 2000 and 2003. It aims to be a free (as in freedom) cross-platform RPG Maker 2000/2003 interpreter. The main goal is to play all games created with them as the original game interpreter (RPG_RT.exe) does. This would be a good package to include in Debian. It's fully compliant with the GPL-3.0 license, so I don't think that would be an issue. Only the loaded games themselves would be in any way proprietary and/or use copyrighted material, but the package doesn't feature any of them out of the box. There is an OBS repository (https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home%3Aeasyrpg=easyrpg-player=ff=00=3C8025), but it's a third-party service. Thanks in advance. Upstream: https://github.com/EasyRPG/Player
Bug#1029454: RFP: apt-fast -- A shellscript wrapper for apt that speeds up downloading of packages.
Package: apt-fast Severity: wishlist A shellscript wrapper for apt that speeds up downloading of packages. Just as we have nala as an alternative to using apt-get, could we please get apt-fast in the official repositories? Unless you compile, you'd have to install from an Ubuntu PPA (https://code.launchpad.net/~apt-fast/+archive/stable). Thank you in advance. Upstream: https://github.com/ilikenwf/apt-fast
Bug#1025348: RFP: nvtop -- Interactive NVIDIA and AMD GPU process monitor.
Package: nvtop Severity: wishlist This program allows you to monitor your GPU processes, temperatures, power consumption, and average fan speed. Can this package please be built to support AMD and Intel GPUs, as well? So far, it only seems to support Nvidia GPUs. Thank you. Upstream: https://github.com/Syllo/nvtop
Bug#1018848: RFP: nvtop -- Interactive NVIDIA and AMD GPU process monitor.
Package: nvtop Severity: wishlist This program allows you to monitor your GPU processes, temperatures, power consumption, and average fan speed. The build in Sid is too old and doesn't support AMD GPUs. Please rebuild from git. Thank you. Upstream: https://github.com/Syllo/nvtop
Bug#1018847: RFP: corectrl -- Graphical system monitoring and performance tuning program for GPUs and CPUs, supporting multiple profiles.
