Bug#999426: lxdm: tcp_listen config options is broken
Package: lxdm Version: 0.5.3-4 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: gennady.kup...@gmail.com enabling tcp_listen=1 removes 'nolisten tcp' optin from X server, but modern Xorg seems require explicit '-listen' option to actually listen on tcp port, so it is very hard to pass it. Hopefully trivial to fix. -- System Information: Debian Release: bookworm/sid APT prefers oldoldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldoldstable'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.14.0-3-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages lxdm depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.79 ii gtk2-engines 1:2.20.2-5+b1 ii gtk2-engines-pixbuf2.24.33-2 ii iso-codes 4.8.0-1 ii libc6 2.32-4 ii libcairo2 1.16.0-5 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-02.42.6+dfsg-2 ii libglib2.0-0 2.70.0-3 ii libgtk2.0-02.24.33-2 ii libpam-modules 1.4.0-10 ii libpam-runtime 1.4.0-10 ii libpam0g 1.4.0-10 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.48.10+ds1-1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-01.48.10+ds1-1 ii librsvg2-common2.50.7+dfsg-2 ii libx11-6 2:1.7.2-2+b1 ii libxcb11.14-3 ii lsb-base 11.1.0 ii x11-utils 7.7+5 Versions of packages lxdm recommends: ii desktop-base 11.0.3 Versions of packages lxdm suggests: ii lxde-common 0.99.2-4 -- Configuration Files: /etc/lxdm/lxdm.conf changed: [base] greeter=/usr/lib/lxdm/lxdm-greeter-gtk [server] tcp_listen=1 [display] gtk_theme=Clearlooks bg=/usr/share/images/desktop-base/login-background.svg bottom_pane=1 lang=1 keyboard=0 theme=Industrial [input] [userlist] disable=0 white= black= -- debconf information: * shared/default-x-display-manager: lxdm

Bug#998108: having same issue here
Since I recently dist-upgraded sid. Tried to: 1) run with empty profile 2) do apt-get dist-upgrade just now, restart - doesn't help it seems to be freezing during rendering of the websites, seems like eventually running out of some resource and java-script heavy sites freeze it very soon. For example, if i open https://lichess.org/eTyPxe44EoQs (chess game analysis on lichess) first it opens fine, but hitting refresh certainly hungs whole firefox and only way to is kill it.

Bug#726336: [gnome-power-manager] Gnome thinks I am on Battery when I am on AC
I found some sort of clue. Updating the system through aptitude I once got this error: setterm: cannot (un)set powersave mode: Inappropriate ioctl for device I do not know what package was concerned (updated quite a few). Maybe it is not a problem of gnome after all. I tried searching google but people complained about this error on servers and they wanted to disable power management completely. This is not my case, however so just adding acpi=off to the boot command will not do. In any case shouldn't gnome power manager at least say something in .xsessionerrors if it encounters a problem setting powermanagement settings? Maybe the problem is actually that gnome-power-manager doesn't respect the settings in dconf. I will try to experiment more. I am now trying to reset and then configure all the values using dconf command line tool and not dconf-editor. Lets see how it goes. Thanks! Gennady. Bug#726151: [openvpn] openVPN connection breaks power management
Package: openvpn Version: 2.3.2-5 Severity: normal Dear Developers, Once a openvpn connection is established my laptop starts to believe strange things about the power status. In particular the whole DE starts working as though it is on battery power and not on AC (dimming screen and sleeping after some inactivity). However this doesn't depend on the DE (Gnome 3) specifically. Normally running powertop as root gives these debug messages: Loaded 190 prior measurements RAPL device for cpu 0 RAPL device for cpu 0 RAPL device for cpu 0 and then it starts. If the openvpn connection is present the program doesn't start up and gives these debug messages: Loaded 190 prior measurements RAPL device for cpu 0 RAPL device for cpu 0 RAPL device for cpu 0 BUG: requesting unregistered parameter 61 BUG: requesting unregistered parameter 66 ... where the two "BUG" messages get repeated thousands of times. This behavior is the same regardless is I connect via the nm-applet of GNOME 3 or form a root shell by running openvpn --config login--bonn.ovpn For completeness I am attaching the ovpn file. I inspected syslog and found nothing relevant to power management, ACPI, or such. The only messages that appear during/after a vpn connection are: Oct 12 22:09:51 halen NetworkManager[3416]:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices added (path: /sys/devices/virtual/net/tun0, iface: tun0) Oct 12 22:09:51 halen NetworkManager[3416]:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: device added (path: /sys/devices/virtual/net/tun0, iface: tun0): no ifupdown configuration found. Oct 12 22:09:51 halen NetworkManager[3416]: /sys/devices/virtual/net/tun0: couldn't determine device driver; ignoring... in /var/log/syslog. I am also attaching the file vpn.log that contains all that vpn outputs when running from terminal. Please let me know if there is anything else I can tell you to help. Bug#720283: gnome-shell fails to start, clutter problems
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.4.2-12+b1 I have the same situation as described here. Gnome-shell starts but any action causes it to hang. I have also found a bug filed against gnome-core that is due to the same problem (I suppose). It is http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=720297 Before finding this bug I posted some info and diagnoses I have done there. If someone is trying to solve this, please take a look. In particular I have managed to get this .xsession-errors file (that I attached there) that seems to give some info... Bug#720297: [gnome-core] Freeze on startup since 1:3.8+3
Package: gnome-core Version: 1:3.8+3 I continued playing around with downgrading and changing versions and have these results: 1) Downgrading gnome-shell to 3.4.2-12 from testing solves the problem with gnome shell. This downgrade can be accomplished by doing [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libcogl-pango0:amd64 1.10.2-7 [INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] libcogl9:amd64 1.10.2-7 [DOWNGRADE] gir1.2-clutter-1.0:amd64 1.14.4-2 -> 1.10.8-2 [DOWNGRADE] gnome-shell:amd64 3.4.2-12+b1 -> 3.4.2-12 [DOWNGRADE] libclutter-1.0-0:amd64 1.14.4-2 -> 1.10.8-2 However this solution introduces a new problem: Empathy and Evolution do not start giving out this message to the terminal: Empathy: Clutter-CRITICAL **: Unable to initialize Clutter: Failed to connected to any renderer: Evolution: Failed to connected to any renderer: This happens independently of the version of Empathy and Evolution (I tried downgrading them...) 2) From situation (1), if one chooses to upgrade gnome-shell this is what happens: [REMOVE, DEPENDENCIES] libcogl-pango0:amd64 [REMOVE, DEPENDENCIES] libcogl9:amd64 [UPGRADE] gir1.2-clutter-1.0:amd64 1.10.8-2 -> 1.14.4-2 [UPGRADE] gnome-shell:amd64 3.4.2-12 -> 3.4.2-12+b1 [UPGRADE] libclutter-1.0-0:amd64 1.10.8-2 -> 1.14.4-2 Gnome shell stops working but Evolution and Empathy START working. Bug#720297: [gnome-core] Freeze on startup since 1:3.8+3
Package: gnome-core Version: 1:3.8+3 Followup-For: Bug #720297 I have the same problem, however it appears not immediately on login but after the first interaction with gnome shell. programs that I start automatically work fine but as soon as I go to Activities, or try to run Alt+F2, or click the network icon or anything else Gnome Shell freezes. I think that it maybe due to a version mismatch because gnome-core is at 1:3.8+3 and gnome-shell is at 3.4.2-12+b1. This is the standard way things are in Sid. I will try to downgrade to gnome-core 1:3.8+2 and upgrade gnome-shell to 3.8.3-1 in experimental to see if the bug remains. I am attaching .xsession-errors that has some serious JS errors by gnome shell that are probably responsible. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.10-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome-core depends on: ii at-spi2-core 2.9.5-1 ii baobab 3.8.2-1 ii brasero3.8.0-2 ii caribou0.4.4-1 ii caribou-antler 0.4.4-1 ii dconf-gsettings-backend0.16.1-1 ii dconf-tools0.16.1-1 ii empathy3.4.2.3-4+b1 ii eog3.8.2-1 ii evince 3.4.0-3.1+b1 ii evolution-data-server 3.4.4-4 ii fonts-cantarell0.0.13-1 ii gconf2 3.2.6-1 ii gdm3 3.4.1-9 ii gkbd-capplet 3.6.0-1 ii glib-networking2.36.1-2 ii gnome-backgrounds 3.8.1-1 ii gnome-bluetooth3.8.1-2 ii gnome-calculator 3.8.2-1 ii gnome-contacts 3.4.1-2 ii gnome-control-center 1:3.4.3.1-5+b2 ii gnome-dictionary 3.6.0-1 ii gnome-disk-utility 3.0.2-3 ii gnome-font-viewer 3.8.0-1 ii gnome-icon-theme 3.8.2-2 ii gnome-icon-theme-extras3.6.2-2 ii gnome-icon-theme-symbolic 3.8.2.2-2 ii gnome-keyring 3.8.2-2 ii gnome-menus3.8.0-2 ii gnome-online-accounts 3.8.2-1 ii gnome-packagekit 3.8.2-4 ii gnome-panel3.4.2.1-5 ii gnome-power-manager3.8.2-1 ii gnome-screensaver 3.6.0-1+b1 ii gnome-screenshot 3.8.2-1 ii gnome-session 3.4.2.1-4 ii gnome-session-fallback 3.4.2.1-4 ii gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2+git20121218.7c1322-6+b2 ii gnome-shell3.4.2-12+b1 ii gnome-sushi0.4.1-5+b2 ii gnome-system-log 3.8.1-1 ii gnome-system-monitor 3.8.2.1-2 ii gnome-terminal 3.8.3-1 ii gnome-themes-standard 3.8.3-1 ii gnome-user-guide 3.8.2-1 ii gnome-user-share 3.8.0-2+b1 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 3.4.2-3 ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-base 1.0.9-1 ii gstreamer1.0-plugins-good 1.0.9-1 ii gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio1.0.9-1 ii gtk2-engines 1:2.20.2-2 ii gucharmap 1:3.8.2-2 ii gvfs-backends 1.16.3-1 ii gvfs-bin 1.16.3-1 ii iceweasel 24.0~b3-1 ii libatk-adaptor 2.9.5-1 ii libcanberra-pulse 0.30-2 ii libcaribou-gtk-module 0.4.4-1 ii libcaribou-gtk3-module 0.4.4-1 ii libgtk-3-common3.8.2-3 ii libpam-gnome-keyring 3.8.2-2 ii metacity 1:2.34.13-1 ii mousetweaks3.8.0-1 ii nautilus 3.4.2-2 ii notification-daemon0.7.6-1 ii policykit-1-gnome 0.105-2 ii pulseaudio 4.0-6 ii sound-theme-freedesktop0.8-1 ii tracker-gui0.16.1-2 ii vino 3.8.1-1 ii yelp 3.8.1-2 ii zenity 3.8.0-1 Versions of packages gnome-core recommends: ii network-manager-gnome 0.9.8.2-1+b1 Versions of packages gnome-core suggests: ii gnome 1:3.8+3 /etc/gdm3/Xsession: Beginning session setup... localuser:guraltsev being added to access control list openConnection: connect: No such file or directory cannot connect to brltty at :0 /etc/gdm3/Xsession: 45: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/98vboxadd-xclient: /usr/bin/VBoxClient: not found /etc/gdm3/Xsession: 46: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/98vboxadd-xclient: /usr/bin/VBoxClient: not found /etc/gdm3/Xsession: 48: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/98vboxadd-xclient: /usr/bin/VBoxClient: not found /etc/gdm3/Xsession: 50: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/98vboxadd-xclient: /usr/bin/VBoxClient: not found /etc/gdm3/Xsession: 52: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/98vboxadd-xclient: /usr/bin/VBoxClient: not found GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL=/home/guraltsev/.cache/keyring-kgTkAl SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/home/guraltsev/.cache/keyring-kgTkAl/ssh GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL=/home/guraltsev/.cache/keyring-kg

Package: network-manager Version: 0.9.4.0-4 Severity: normal If a wireless network card isn't able to report signal strength Network Manager no longer allows connectiong to wifi networks. This was not so in previous versions. All available wireless networks are greyed out. This is due to the fact that the wifi adapter doesn't know how to report signal strength. Bug#664725: linux-image-3.2.0-2-rt-686-pae: Real-time kernel freezes immediately at boot most of the time
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.10-1 Severity: important Tags: lfs When trying to boot the 3.2.0-2-rt-686 kernel on my machine it freezes most of the time. In particular just after grub finishes loading the kernel and the initrd and proceeds to boot the kernel the message "Loading Linux" or something of that sort appears, the cursor blinks a couple of times (so far everything as usual) but then the cursor stops blinking and disappears completely and the system is completely unresponsive. Caps Lock, alt+sysrq+... and other keys don't have any effect. Normally, the message that appears immediately after this on my pc, when a normal kernel is run, is a debug message from udev (I think) described in: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=654282 but that is NOT fatal and is present on all kernels (even the non rt ones). However in this case nothing of the sort is displayed. This problem seems very similar to the one in bug report 63269: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=663269 that has been said to be fixed. As a matter of fact I have noticed one difference: with version 3.2.10-1 (current), if I load a normal, non-rt kernel first then restart my pc and load the rt kernel the machine usually starts and doesn't hang and works perfectly, while normally (for example running the rt kernel for two times in a row) causes the machine to freeze. On the other hand, with version 3.2.9-1 there was absolutely nothing to be done to make the machine boot with the rt-kernel. This strange behaviour makes me suspect that something may depend on the way grub is booting the kernel (maybe some options that persist across boots). However I have no idea how to debug this. FYI I am software developer and use Linux for more than 10 years. I even have 1 my patch in libasound. I know how exactly things are working. This report is not against 'sound driver'. It's about alsamixer. In this case you may consider pulseaudio client side as 'driver'. alsamixer name it 'sound card' - why not? >I don't. Your soundcard will work. I have no sound card. I have no speakers connected to machine. what do you think will work on that system? Read bug report, I spend much time writing it to make reproduction as easy as possible and problem as clean as possible. > What does Mb and mb mean? Well it is not reproducible for me as a user. MB=may be. > No, I can't reproduce and won't test pulseaudio. If you do not want to reproduce this problem - no problem, but remove tag. About keys case: And keys always were in both lower and upper case (also checked alsamixer 1.0.16 on i386), lower - faster, upper - slower tuning in 1.0.16. About reproduction: I downgraded to 1.0.16-2 and everything started to work. Upgraded back to 1.0.22-11 and hit bug again. I setup pulseaudio tcp server on snd-dummy sound card on client machine and got same problem. While changing volume on dummy card all keys are working perfectly [switching with that new F6 key in alsamixer]. HOW TO REPRODUCE: I think to reproduce it you should setup pulseaudio over network. Mb some other cases exist. on server, apt-get install pulseaudio. (i am using debian/stable/i386) in following description server is 192.168.0.1, client is 192.168.0.2 Use following config for server (only changed parts): /etc/default/daemon.conf: system-instance = yes resample-method = speex-float-3 daemonize = yes FOR 'STABLE' PULSEAUDIO: /etc/pulse/default.pa (only important parts): load-module module-alsa-sink plughw:0,0 load-module module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=192.168.0.1/24 OR FOR 'TESTING' PULSEAUDIO (notice file name): /etc/pulse/system.pa (only important parts): load-module module-alsa-sink plughw:0,0 ADD FOLLOWING: load-module module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip-acl=192.168.0.1/24 on server enable daemon in /etc/default/pulseaudio set: PULSEAUDIO_SYSTEM_START=1 then start server /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart. wait 1 min and check if it is still around and on tcp: work:/home/gena# netstat -atnp |grep pulse tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:4713 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7923/pulseaudio if not, run without daemon command-line with --daemonize=no and -v options to see why he is died. on client (under any user): $ cat > ~/.asoundrc: pcm.!default { type pulse server 192.168.0.1 } ctl.!default { type pulse server 192.168.0.1 } this will make remote tcp pulse server default alsa card for playing and for volume changing. on client apt-get install libasound2-plugins, now run alsamixer on client under same user -> you should hit bug. I got this few moths ago, I just didn't report it as i thought it were already reported. Hope this way you'll be able to reproduce it. While testing i also hit other bug on arm/sid, which worked some time ago, so i unable to test this issue where... I had to add that this related to pulse to header, but didn't understand in time that i can simple check if problem exist on dummy card controls... Paul, >If the bug is still present, could you please test the latest upstream >version 0.9.21 and this does not help open a ticket upstream [3]. You >seem to know OProfile so you can probably find the reason with >upstream’s help. I workarounded this problem by pinning old pulseaudio from etch (0.9.5-5etch1), which works fine for me. Retesting each case of this will take some time due to nature of issue. I'll retest issue with 0.9.10-3+lenny1, test backport and upstream version. testing upstream version will take even more time as i have no environment to build packages for lenny. If this issue still exist in upstream/latest, I'll write bugreport to upstream tracking system. All this will take some time, but I have some now. I'll report results to this bug report as they be ready. Gennady. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#505097: pulseaudio: eats CPU. CPU usage increase over time
After upgrading my router (old 600Mhz celeron PC), which is also my 24/7 network sound server with pulseaudio from etch to lenny, I've got similar very annoying problem. After few hours (always if router was working overnight), I am getting jerks with any freshly run client, so I have to go router with ssh and manually restart pulseaudio service, after that it works for the next few hours. I can't recall if any connected client get this jerks in middle of it's work, even sometimes I have low volume music or video playing for the long time. Observations on router tell me that just after restart, playing same thing on client (client is different machine with ethernet connection to router) - ape with mplayer takes ~27.4 with freshly restarted pulseaudio, as far as I saw last time jerks happen than cpu usage is too high. So, I far as I can see, pulseaudio CPU usage is increasing over time, and that seem several bug. Also this is somehow related to idle time. Also, it eats CPU while idle. PA is running with CPU limit off. The client system seems were not changed except that it is unstable debian. Bug#511190: qemubuilder: builds hang because pseudo-fs are not mounted
I used kernel provided by Nikita and got hangs several times. Once I got in while --update. My main problem was that I got hang then I was tring to package my software. After adding some new packages to "depends" I got hung on last "Setting up ... 0.invalid.0" line, with CPU load of qemu process equal to 100%. All hungs are 100% reproducible, I mean I can rerun qemubuilder with same options for same package or for same image to --update, it always hung in same place. I think that best way to reproduce it is to try to install openssh-server inside qemu with --login option, while running qemu as simple wrapper: file /usr/bin/qemu-system-arm: exec /usr/bin/qemu-system-arm__ "$@" -redir tcp:10022::22 and try to connect it as ssh r...@0 -p10022 Without devpts mounted, you get following message: r...@0's password: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 stdin: is not a tty , and it's impossible to get command promt on ssh, but connection is OK, if you mount devpts, all is OK. I'm not really familiar with devpts, but on my AMD64's with custom kernel and x86 with 2.6.26-1 debian testing kernel devpts seems mounted, and this is done in /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh:20, which is member of initscripts package. I've rechecked ordinary initrd: work:/tmp/i# LANG=C grep -rnw devpts * Binary file lib/libc.so.6 matches So, it seen anyway mounted in ordinary boot procedure. As you seem skip initscripts, running pbuilder-run instead of init, it seems that it's better to do that mounting job. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
