Bug#934901: marked as done (Please switch to Python 3 or remove your package from Sid/Bullseye)

2019-08-16 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Hello,
The PyGpiv package is not maintained anymore from upsream. So I think
it's a good idea to remove python-gpiv from Sid. As I'm not a DD, I
cannot do this by myself.

Sincerely, Gerber van der Graaf

Bug#807233: gpiv: Update build dependencies for GSL 2.x

2015-12-06 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Hi Bas,
Thanks for the patches for gpivtools and gpiv. Actually, I am not using
this software at the moment and noticed very few usage by other users.
So, more or less I left the development and debianizing of this
software. Gpiv has already been removed from Sid and I do not have much
time to dedicate to it. In case you are interested in this software, I
will have a look at it. Else, I wonder if it makes sense to keep this
software in Debian.

Hartelijke groet, Gerber van der Graaf

Dear maintainer, I have prepared an NMU (versioned as 0.6.1-2.2)
and uploaded to DELAYED/5. Please fell free to tell me if I should
delay it longer, cancel or reschedule. Diff is attached.

 Best regards

Bug#735279: gnome-session-flashback: Screen does not redraw when resizing or moving application windows

2014-01-14 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Package: gnome-session-flashback
Version: 3.8.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
When moving or resizing a window, the screen is incorrectly updated.
The contours of the window stay frozen on the screen, making working
under this graphic environment impossible. Switching to a different
desktop keeps the images of the initial desktop on the screen.

I think it is identic or related to bug #708279

It is found that under the 'new' Gnome shell this behaviour does not occur.

Bug#668286: texlive-latex-extra: movie15.sty not found by asymptote

2012-04-10 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Package: texlive-latex-extra
Version: 2011.20120322-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
Creating freefoam-user-doc uses asymptote to create PDF's. When building it
reports:
/usr/share/asymptote/plain_Label.asy: 633.5: runtime:
! LaTeX Error: File `movie15.sty' not found.

I suspect this movie15.sty was included previously in the texlive-latex-extra
package, but has disapeared for some reason. Please, can movie15.sty be put
back or can you give me an alternative way?

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report.

Please run your example with
(pdf)latex -recorder ...
(or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated
file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during
the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in
your home directory.

Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are
needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Bug#650563: libgpiv: FTBFS: ../../../lib/io_png.c:170:39: error: 'png_voidp_NULL' undeclared (first use in this function)

2011-12-01 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Hi,
I do not have Debian/Experimental connected on my Debian/Unstable system
and would like to avoid that as it also is a production machine.
Therefore, I prefer to wait until libpng-1.4 will arrive in
Debian/Unstable before I will send in a new package.

From some searches on the web I understand that the macros
png_voidp_NULL and png_error_ptr_NULL (probably all
PNG_NO_TYPECAST_NULL) are no longer supported in libpng-1.4. These can
easily be changed to 0 or to (png_error_ptr)NULL. I prefer the last
solution.

z_best_compression is not found as probably a dependency to zlib1g-dev
will have to be added in debian/control file. Currently, libgpiv
compiles fine without this dependency using pbuilder for
Debian/Unstable. There is no libpng-dev in Testing which depends on
zlib1g-dev. I only found libpng-1.5, which depends on zlib1g. So this is
more 'bug' of libpng-1.5(-dev) than of libgpiv.

There have been done some major changes (complete re-organization of the
source code) in libgpiv and soon some other (improvements on the
accuracy of the resulting data) will have been done yet. In case you
need libgpiv (and pygpiv) you might change them manually.

Sincerely, Gerber

 Hi,

I uploaded libpng 1.5 to experimental.
libpng maintainers plan to transition from libpng 1.2 to 1.5.
I am checking build it the package depend to libpng.

I noticed your package FTBFS by libpng 1.5.
 I attached build log.
 Could you check your package?

Bug#528662: activity on freefoam

2011-02-19 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Though no activity has been seen on the packaging of freefoam, there is
still work in progress. Upstream author of FreeFOAM is completely
re-writing the UserGUIDE. Even though the UserGUIDE for OpenFOAM has
been issued under the GPL licence, the source of the text (it was
written in latex) has never been provided. This prohibited to include
the freefoam-userdoc package included in Debian/Main. Therefore, the
whole writing has been re-done from scratch, this time using Asciidoc,
and adapted for the FreeFOAM software. Once this job will be finished,
it is hoped that a new release of the freefoam-* packages will be
issued, soon.

A pre-release of the debian packages can be found at my personal
repository by incuding the following lines in /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb ftp://mndeupm.upc.es/debian ./
deb-src ftp://mndeupm.upc.es/debian ./

Maybe a wrong or missing symlink?

I tested the example of hello_cxx from openmpi-doc package, after
configuring and building with CMake implemented find_package(MPI
REQUIRED), like the FreeFOAM package. This, though, works fine.

The symlink pointed to /usr/bin/python2.5 instead of python2.5 (I made
by myself some time ago), which aparently doesn work. Thanks for the tip
and the bugreport. Gerber

It builds fine here. Have you tried building it in a clean chroot.

As far as I understand it, this error triggers only if there's something
wrong with your /usr/bin/python symlink. The symlink should look like this:

 $ readlink /usr/bin/python
 python2.5

Bug#528662: progress packaging freefoam

2010-05-25 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Hi,
Here is some information on the progress of packaging FreeFOAM. If there
is somebody who would like to assist / collaborate, just let me know.

Packaging FreeFOAM against release 0.1.0rc4 is starting to get in good
shape, including building from source using pbuilder. Currently, the
next binary packages will be build:
- libfreefoam: libraries for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- libfreefoam-dev: libraries for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) -
development files
- freefoam: programs for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- freefoam-user-doc: software for Computational Fluid Dynamics - user
documentation
- freefoam-dev-doc: software for Computational Fluid Dynamics -
developers documentation

Though there are still some issues:
- Some lintian errors and warnings
- Building with MPI enabled needs non-free parmgridgen-dev as
libscotchparmetis does not yet cover fully the libparmgridgen
functionality (see bug #582489). So, for the moment the FreeFOAM
packages will have to reside in contrib :(
- Waiting until formal first FreeFOAM release will be issued. Upstream
developer is working on that.

Bug#582489: libscotchmetis-dev: does not clean up after package removal

2010-05-21 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Package: libscotchmetis-dev
Severity: normal

I think the package does not remove the following files after
apt-get remove libscotchmetis-dev:
/usr/lib/libscotchmetis-5.1.so
/usr/lib/libmetis.so.3.1

Similar issues I found with libscotchparmetis-dev:
/usr/lib/libparmetis.so.3.1

This is quite confusing whether it cannot be distinguished if the lib(par)metis
files origin from the scotch(par)metis-dev packages or from the non-free
(par)metis packages.

While performing interrogation with gpiv_rr (from the gpivtools package) or

Bug#539717: gpivtools-mpi: formating suggestions for long description

 Hi!

The long description of your package could need some formating
improvements. I suggest you to apply this pseudo-patch:

 #v+
Description: command line programs for Particle Image Velocimetry - MPI
 version
A collection of programs for images that are generated
during a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experiment. This is a
technique to obtain the velocity field of a fluid flow quantitatively
and is performed by tracking tracer particles that have been seeded
to a fluid. The technique is also applied for observing deformations
at surfaces of (solid) bodies. The package contains:
 - .
 - an image processing program for typical filtering and manipulation
 - routines that may be convenient for PIV.
 - .
 - an image interrogation program resulting into estimators of particle
 - image displacements.
 - .
 - validation programs to test on outliers, peak-locking effect and
 - velocity gradients.
 - .
 - post-processing programs for data manipulation (flipping, rotation
 - etc), spatial and time scaling, calculation of spatial averages and
 - derivative quantities from the PIV data, like vorticity and strain.

Bug#528615: paraview-dev package?

2009-05-14 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Package: paraview
Version: 3.4.0-3
Severity: wishlist

Please, consider to build a paraview-dev package that contains the headers and
needed CMake macro's etc. So OpenFOAM/FreeFOAM and other software can be
build against this package and there is no need to build paraview locally.

Bug#515789: not free: so lost interests

2009-05-14 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
As upstream authors of this package did not reply on any request for
distribition within Debian and licencing is unclear but definitely not
free, I have lost interests in packaging this software. Therefore this
bug may be removed.

Bug#528662: ITP: freefoam -- freefoam software package for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

2009-05-14 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Gerber van der Graaf gerber.vdgr...@gmail.com

* Package name: freefoam
  Version : 0.1.0
Upstream Author : Michael Wild them...@users.sourceforge.net
* URL : http://www.freefoam.wiki.sourceforge.net
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : software for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

FreeFOAM is a fork of the OpenFOAM CFD software package, containing more than
200 programs for pre-processing, simulation and for post-processing. Therefore
it uses the control volume method or finite difference scheme. The software can
simulate anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions,
turbulence and heat transfer, to solid dynamics, electromagnetics and the
pricing of financial options.
..
Compared to OpenFOAM, the building system has been
modified to CMake, will also compile and run on case-insensitive file systems
and installs configuration, libraries, headers and binaries following LSB
standards.
Its use won´ require specific ENVIRONMENTAL settings or has been reduced to a
minimum. So all programs will work like any other available binary on the
Computer system.

Bug#523010: gpiv: crashes with assertion error on opening PNG

2009-04-08 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
I think your patch repair is correct and I implemented it in the gpiv
package. The update can be found in the http://repo.or.cz/w/gpiv.git
repository. Hopefully within one or two weeks the newest gpiv release,
including your bugrepair, can also be found in the officiel Debian repo.
Thanks a lot for your contribution!

BTW I'd like to know for which purpose the Gpiv software is used. Would
you like to send me a short description or a Web link? If you'd like to,
this might be included in the Gpiv web pages
http://gpiv.sourceforge.net/projects.html

Greetings, Gerber

===
Consider simultaneous installation of serial and parallelized (-mpi) packages.
So the needed
library will be choosen by the application. This will give more flexibility as
applications
that need the serial version can abe installed on the same system with
applications that
need the -mpi version. (Similar as has been done by libgpiv3 and libgpiv-mpi3.)

Description : Program for generating course grids

MGRIDGEN and PARMGRIDGEN are serial and parallel software packages that
implement various algorithms for
generating a sequence of coarse grids. The generated coarse grids contain
well-shaped elements and thus they are
well-suited for geometric multigrid methods. PARMGRIDGEN is an MPI-based
parallel library that is based on the
serial package MGRIDGEN and it is suited for parallel numerical simulations
involving large unstructured grids since
the algorithms incur a very small communication overhead, achieve high degree
of concurrency and maintain the high
quality of the coarse grids obtained by the serial algorithms in the MGRIDGEN
library.

2009-02-09 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
In case you did not see the message I also sent to
514...@bugs.debian.org and you might be interested. We hope to issue
next week.

There is a 'fork' of OpenFoam: FreeFoam
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefoam/), done by Michael Wild and
me. The changes are in the building (using CMake), installation using
LSB: (/usr/lib/FreeFoam/*, /usr/bin/* , /etc/FreeFoam), and usage (no
ENVIRONMENTAL settings needed. It seems to work fine, but we are still
testing it. I already have had a look at Paraview and cdbs technology
(which is new to me) how I might be able to deb FreeFoam.
The files have not yet been uploaded to sf.net or at the
repo.or.cz git repository.

Michael asked me to wait with publishing the software (he holds the sf
account) It has been 1 month I had the last contact with Michael and he
did not respond last week. I will try again and eventually issue
FreeFoam on the git repository.

I've briefly glanced in the past at OpenFOAM packaging, and decided
that it would be a huge task, mostly because coaxing OpenFOAM to obey
Debian and Ubuntu policy is going to be a very difficult task. Besides
having a very arcane build system and being a monster package, it also
has some very weird usage expecting to be run under its own user with
 many environment variables set.

How did you address those issues?

Bug#354150: Subject: ITP: libgpiv -- Library for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV)

* Package name: libgpiv
  Version : 0.3.2
Upstream Author : Gerber van der Graaf
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://gpiv.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
Description : Library for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV)

This library contains functions for evaluating images from a fluid flow
by means of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), resulting into a velocity
field on a rectangular grid. It includes the core functions for image
acquiring, processing, interrogation, PIV data validation,
post-processing, input/output and memory allocation.

-- System Information:
Debian Release: 3.1
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968)

I have package this library and two others that make use of it;
gpivtools; a package containing more than 40 command-line programs and
scripts and gpiv; a GTK/Gnome GUI program.

As upstream author of the package I noticed that compiling and
installing of the software by users seems to be an obstacle to use this
software. Therefore I am very interested in providing (and maintaining)
the binary package.
The motivation fo rchoosing Debian is because I am convinced that Debian
is the most reliable GNU/Linux distro available, regarding from a
technological point of view and, most of all, because of its open-source
and open-minded policy, without depending on corporate interests.
Besides, I just enjoy it.

Description : Command line programs for Particle Image Velocimetry
A collection of programs for recording and interrogating images that
are generated during a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV)
experiment. This is a technique to obtain the velocity field of a
fluid flow quantitatively and is performed by tracking tracer
particles that have been seeded to a fluid. The technique is also
applied for observing deformations at surfaces of (solid) bodies. The
 package contains:
 .
an image recording program that uses an IEEE1394 (Firewire)
IIDC-compliant camera and a program for triggering the camera with a
light source (mostly a double cavity Nd-YAG laser). Trigger pulses
are sent over the parallel port of the computer using RealTimeLinux
 and RTAI.
 .
an image processing program for typical filtering and manipulation
routines that may be convenient for PIV.
 .
an image interrogation program resulting into estimators of particle
 image displacements.
 .
validation programs to test on outliers, peak-locking effect and
 velocity gradients.
 .
post-processing programs for data manipulation (flipping, rotation
etc), spatial and time scaling, calculation of spatial averages and
derivatived quantities from the PIV data, like vorticity and strain.
 .
miscelaneous programs and scripts to perform image format conversion,
batch-processing, pipeline processing (image evaluation, validation and
post-processing at once), calculation of time averages from a series
of PIV data sets, data-visualization and data-manipulation.

I packaged this software together with the belonging libgpiv package and
an additional GTK/Gnome GUI program gpiv. As upstream author a am
interested to build and maintain the package. Of course, help and
comments are welcome.

Package : gpiv
Version : 0.3.0-1
Upstream Author : Gerber van der Graaf

Description : Graphic User Interface program for Particle Image
Velocimetry

Gpiv is a program using the the GTK/GNOME libraries for
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The program gives a quick overview
of the parameter settings of the processes and allows to change them
easely, running the processes, individually or in a chain,
visualizes and displays the results. The processes that may be
 invoked by Gpiv are:
 .
Image recording and triggering of a camera with light sources.
 .
Image evaluation or interrogation, resulting into estimators of
particle
 image displacements.
 .
Data validation to test on outliers, peak-locking effect and
velocity gradients over the interrogation area's.
 .
Data post-processing: data manipulation, spatial and time scaling to
obtain a velocity field from the PIV data, calculation of spatial
 averages, vorticity and strain.

This is the GUI program that uses also the libgpiv package. Another
package (gpivtools) includes (small) command-line programs and scripts
with similar functionality as this package.

As a starter in packaging I would like to be commented by a DD!
