Bug#609417: users-admin: user option Don't ask for password on login is grayed

2011-01-09 Thread Giovanni Toraldo (gionn)
Package: gnome-system-tools

Severity: normal

Hi,

I am looking around how to easily configure a passwordless user for desktop
usage (a Guest), I see the option in the Change User Password dialog, but the
option is grayed. Is there a package to be installed? If yes, it should be
inserted as a recommended package for gnome-system-tools?

Thanks.

Bug#609417: Acknowledgement (users-admin: user option Don't ask for password on login is grayed)

2011-01-09 Thread Giovanni Toraldo
Hi,

after another googlin' session, I've found this:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=773159#p773159

I've created the group:
# addgroup nopasswdlogin

and added the required line in gdm3 pam before @common-auth:
$ cat /etc/pam.d/gdm3
#%PAM-1.0
authrequisite pam_nologin.so
authrequiredpam_env.so readenv=1
authrequiredpam_env.so readenv=1 envfile=/etc/default/locale
authrequiredpam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet_success
authsufficient pam_succeed_if.so user ingroup nopasswdlogin
@include common-auth
authoptionalpam_gnome_keyring.so
@include common-account
session requiredpam_limits.so
@include common-session
session optionalpam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start
@include common-password

Now that function is working correctly.
Can those steps be addressed by gdm install script?

Thanks.

Bug#606154: pommed: Pommed audio volume support conflicts with GNOME (and probably KDE)

2010-12-06 Thread Giovanni Toraldo (gionn)
Package: pommed
Version: 1.35~dfsg-1
Severity: normal

I noticed that nowadays both GNOME and KDE supports natively the XF86
multimedia keys for volume control on my macbook pro.
With pommed enable, the volume step up/down twice due to pommed and gnome/kde
concurrents adjustements.

Is there any way to disable audio support in pommed?
I've mitigated the problem setting step = 1, but isn't so beautiful.

Thanks.

Bug#605916: pommed: Pommed doesn't recognise keyboard activity and turn off keyboard leds indefinitively

2010/12/4 Julien BLACHE jbla...@debian.org:
No changes were made to either the event handling code or the keyboard
backlight code in quite some time now.

I suggest you look for a problem somewhere else.

You were right, the mouseemu daemon that I've got installed via

keypress detection.

After purging mouseemu, pommed started to work correctly.

Thanks.

Bug#575881: generates an empty hex string in /var/lib/dbus/machine-id

2010-12-04 Thread Giovanni Toraldo (gionn)
Package: dbus
Version: 1.2.24-3
Severity: normal

I can confirm this bug:
I have installed squeeze using beta1 netinstall iso, using LVM+ext4, on my
macbook pro 5,1.
I've manually entered a random 32 chars hex string in che empty machine-id file
and restarted dbus.

Inspecting in /var/lib/dbus, I found an interesting thing:

sc...@antani-deb:/var/lib/dbus$ ls -la
totale 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 4 dic 16.21 .
drwxr-xr-x 57 root root 4096 4 dic 16.24 ..
-rw--- 1 root root 33 4 dic 16.21 machine-id
-rw--- 1 root root 33 4 dic 16.06 machine-id.4lV75YDe

Seems that the good file was moved by someone during the install process (I've
used tasksel, selecting desktop environment, ssh server, laptop, standard).

Thanks.

after everything freeze (no caps lock, no hd activity, no video output).

I added `set debug=all` to my grub.cfg entry, and I see *a lot* of

Thanks.

ps: I think I should file a bugreport also for reportbug, using gtk2

I filed a bug using the gtk frontend http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=577700 and it seems that all the line breaks are
automatically removed, making everything a mess of text.

Bug#572625: More info

2010-03-17 Thread Giovanni Toraldo
Hi Guido,

sorry for the delay.

The problem is reproducible with a Debian Lenny with current packages
of virt-manager, libvirtd and qemu-kvm from backports.org

I can reproduce the error, even when attaching a simple iso to a
machine, with an iso put on /var/lib/libvirtd/images:

ls -l /var/lib/libvirt/images/
totale 600832
-rw-r- 1 libvirt-qemu kvm 615251968 17 mar 15:40 windowsxpsp3.iso

I copied the iso with root privileges, (was root:root 644 before
trying to attach to a domain). After the error, the situation is what
you see. My user is in the libvirt and kvm system groups.

I cannot attach any domain XML, because the error raise at the end of
the wizard for creating a new domain in virt-manager.

Bug#572625: What's the issue?

2010-03-17 Thread Giovanni Toraldo
On Mon, Mar 8, 2010 at 6:10 PM, Guido Günther a...@sigxcpu.org wrote:
 Hi,
is your problem that the permissions are being changed (that's
intentional) or that the vm doesn't start? The latter seems to be caused
by the fact that the qemu user can't access the vmdk.

Sorry, the problem was too simple that I get it only now.

The problem is with the owner of the /var/lib/libvirtd/images folder:

casseruola:/var/lib# ls -la libvirt/
totale 4
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 55 17 mar 15:12 .
drwxr-xr-x 40 root root 4096 17 mar 15:32 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root6 18 dic 2008 boot
drwx-- 2 root root 71 17 mar 15:39 images
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 24 17 mar 15:15 network
drwxr-xr-x 2 libvirt-qemu kvm 6 17 mar 15:17 qemu

casseruola:/var/lib# chown libvirt-qemu:kvm libvirt/images/

Permission denied is disappeared. The bug is probably in the debian
install script of libvirtd-bin package.

Thank you for your interest.

Bye.

Bug#538370: parted: Cannot clear msftres flag on ntfs partition

2009-07-25 Thread Giovanni Toraldo
Package: parted
Version: 1.8.8.git.2009.07.19-2
Severity: normal

I am on a macbook pro 5,1 and the first time I use parted, it set on ntfs
windows partition the msftres flag, which inihibit macosx
to auto-mount it.

Can be clearly a macosx issue, but I don't understand why I cannot choose to
set or not this flag.

Thanks.

Bug#501192: squid3: Browsers issuing a Content Encoding Error when browsing site with gzip/deflate enabled

2008-10-05 Thread Giovanni Toraldo
Package: squid3
Version: 3.0.STABLE8-1
Severity: normal

I'm using squid in transparent mode, with minimal conf changes.
When browsing some particular websites (like
http://www.symfony-project.org/api/1_1/) with many version of firefox,
an error page is issued, concerning about a compression method not know
or not supported. Setting firefox internal variable
network.http.accept-encoding from gzip, deflate to blank is a workaround,
but 4 random chars are displayed on every page before the html output
starts (could be them that brokes the content of the compressed page?).

Don't know if this could be an upstream squid bug or a bad webserver serving
pages, but with squid2 on etch i never had this problem in the same
environment.

Hi guys,

same problem with my lenny.
If I use composite extension in xorg (no matter if you are using
transparency effects on xfce or not), workspace switching when there are
some xfce4-terminal open is very slow. Also using gnome-terminal. Now I
switched to roxterm that doesn't has this annoying bug.

Can you try with XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 exported before running
xfce4-terminal (or gnome-terminal) and report back?

Now workspace switching is faster than light, even with 16 terminals open :D
