Bug#797888: RFS: panda3d/1.9.0-1 [ITP] -- Panda3D free 3D engine SDK

(I mean, a library and a library-dev with the so symlinked) dynamic shared libraries without soname are so painful (unless they are kept private, and I don't remember the package right now) I know what you mean: that will make it impossible to install different versions of libpanda3d. But I have no clue at all what should be symlinked. I still don't understand, even after looking at the package sed 's/@DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH@/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)/g' debian/libpanda3d$(P3DVER).links.in > debian/panda3d$(P3DVER).links why a libpanda3d*.links.in becomes a panda3d*.links? Oops, that was an mistake while renaming panda3d1.9.0 to libpanda3d1.9.0 as requested. at the end the result is somewhat correct, but I presume there are some packaging issues, e.g. the libpanda3d1.9.0 package contains .so files, but they are just links. I will rebuild and check that. cheers, G. Best regards

Hi, again sorry for the delay. - please switch the rules file to debhelper calls :) What exactly? -"install -m 644 debian/shlibs debian/panda3d1.9.0/DEBIAN/shlibs" Fixed. all the DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH (I guess, didn't try) might be fixed by patching the makepanda/makepanda.py file (probably around line 1596) and maybe somewhere else I would like to avoid that, mainly because the work would be obsolete soon, as upstream wants to switch to CMake in the (more or less) near future. - please limit to 80 chars the contrl file (I mean the line length) Done. - section games maybe? Sure. - panda3d should depend on the library with a "(= ${binary:Version})" - rename panda3d1.9.0 to libpanda3d1.9.0? Did that, too. panda3d1.9.0.install: built/lib/lib*.so usr/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}/panda3d/ this should be in the -dev package You realized that these files aren't symlinks but libraries? So really don't think this would be correct. One example: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 772576 Aug 10 11:01 libpandagl.so Best regards, Jörn

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay, I'm quite busy on real-life work. I've uploaded a new version, I've decided to switch to shlibs instead of a symbols file as I think it's unrealistic to maintain 32k lines of symbols for several architectures and the documentation states, that the shlibs system could be more suitable for C++ libraries. Btw, I've been accepted to pkg-games and will set up a repository for the packaging in the coming days. Regards

Hi everyone, I think everything is now ready for further work on the package. Thank you very much for your help! Regards

Sven Bartscher, do you still have interest to co-maintain? My packaging for Panda3D is currently under review, but I don't expect much problems. We can also get some help from upstream, I am in touch with the main developer for quite a while now. Regards, Jörn

Bug#797888: RFS: panda3d/1.9.0-1
Hi, I did care about 1, 3, 4 and 6. 2) Tried to set myself as owner, but I'm unsure if that was correct - I guess not. bugs.debian.org is a bit tricky imho. 5) I did apply for membership something like a week ago, but nothing hapenned yet. But I really think working together with the pkg-games team would be beneficial. Best regards
