Bug#580175: xulrunner-1.9.1: slow rendering with current libcairo2

2010-05-04 Thread Jason McCarty
Hi,

I used git bisect and found that the following commit causes iceweasel
redraws and focus changes to greatly slow down.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/cairo/commit/?id=40aefac5d714bf7536632ed38c7a8ee05049f30b

Removing the first src->owns_pixmap test in this commit restores
performance so that redraws and focus changes are almost instant again.

In reference to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12996#c4 ,
yes, my old and slow machine (1.3 GHz athlon, circa 2001) breaks.
However, I imagine that modern netbooks and the like won't do much
better.

Having found this, I think this is the same bug as
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26869 .

Bug#580175: xulrunner-1.9.1: slow rendering with current libcairo2

2010-05-03 Thread Jason McCarty
Package: xulrunner-1.9.1
Version: 1.9.1.9-7
Severity: important

After upgrading iceweasel from 3.0.14-1 to 3.5.9-3, I found that pages
now render much more slowly. I can actually watch the page being redrawn
from top to bottom now, whereas before a redraw/initial render was
almost instant. Scrolling is also very slow. Menus draw slowly, and the
cursor freezes for a moment whenever the focus switches to/from a
different application. This makes iceweasel painful to use.

I tried version 3.6.4~build2-1 from experimental with the same results.

Against dpkg's better judgment, I downgraded libcairo2 to version
1.8.6-2+b1 (the newest old version I could find), with the result that
iceweasel 3.5.9 renders at normal speed.

I also tried version 1.9.6-6 of cairo and got the same slowdown.

The binary package of 3.6.3 from mozilla.org renders normally with
any of these versions of cairo.

I'm not sure whether this is really a cairo bug, or if xulrunner is
doing something funny. If I get time I'll try to find the patch in cairo
that makes the difference.

I haven't seen any ill effects from using cairo 1.8.6, so I'm leaving it
installed as a work-around.

Thanks.

Bug#551432: inkscape: selecting text tool and clicking on canvas leads to a crash

2009-11-20 Thread Jason McCarty
Package: inkscape
Version: 0.47pre4-1
Followup-For: Bug #551432

I believe this is the same bug as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/406036 . I get the same crash
with GTK_IM_MODULE=xim, but not with uim.

However, using uim has the weird side-effect that the close button
doesn't do anything.

Bug#523260: gnuplot-nox: depend on a newer version of libedit2

2009-04-08 Thread Jason McCarty
Package: gnuplot-nox
Version: 4.2.5-1
Severity: normal

When I run gnuplot, I get the following error.

gnuplot: symbol lookup error: gnuplot: undefined symbol: remove_history

It seems this symbol is missing from my (4 year old!) libedit2. Please
depend on a newer version. I plan to upgrade momentarily, just thought
I'd mention it.

Or maybe it's a bug in libedit2 that they introduced a symbol without
bumping the soversion.

Bug#352903: nvidia-kernel-legacy-source: depends on old version of debhelper

2006-02-14 Thread Jason McCarty
Package: nvidia-kernel-legacy-source
Version: 1.0.7174-2
Severity: minor

Hi, I tried building this package while having debhelper 4.2.36
installed, but it failed, saying something about compatibility level 5
not supported (sorry, don't have the exact message). Since debian/rules
has DH_COMPAT=5, though, I'm guessing you should depend on debhelper >=
5.0. Indeed, building with version 5.0.22 succeeded.

Thanks,

2005-09-08 Thread Jason McCarty
Package: haskell-utils
Version: 1.6.0.1
Severity: wishlist

ghc6 is now installable in sid. Can the NMU patch be reverted so the
package depends on libgmp3c2 instead of hugs now?

Thanks.
