Comments/Problems:

Debian installer crashes when starts to install selected packages from
final installation menu (I selected Desktop Environment and Laptop
Extras). You need to reboot to solve the crash.

Debian installer crashes too when you are inserting normal-user name
if you use non-ASCII characters (like 'ñ' or tildes, for example). You
can solve the crash selecting the "back" option and using only ASCII
characters.

2005-12-18 Thread José Luis Patiño Andrés
2005/12/18, Frans Pop <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Well, with this information it would be possible to have the cardautomatically supported _if_ the driver needed for the card is availablein the standard kernel. However, from your earlier message I understand

it is not.As your installation was otherwise successful, I'm closing the report;thanks for submitting it.If the C54RC is supported by a standard module, please let us know whichmodule it needs by replying to this message and we can reopen the report.
Cheers,FJP

The module that C54RC needs to work is 'rt2500' (takes the name from the chipset: Ralink 2500).

This module project is hosted by sourceforge at http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com

Module was not installed on my kernel. I installed it from sources to
my kernel, following instructions of 'serialmonkey' webpage for Debian
users.

In other way, last time I forgot to tell you that the debian-installer
of the 14, December 2005 crashes when you are writing the normal user
name _if you use_ some characters as 'ñ' or tildes. So, spanish users
(like me :)) can't write their names correctly. The crash can be solved
by selecting the "back" option and writing the name with only standard
english characters.

Cheers and thank you.

Here is the output:

xenon:/home/ines# lspci -n | grep 0:03:00.0
:03:00.0 0280: 1814:0201 (rev 01)

Well, really there is no problem detecting the Conceptronic C54RC when
Debian Etch system is totally installed. I wrote the first mail as a
suggestion about if it can be possible to get installation support for
this type of hardware (PCMCIA WiFi cards) in future releases of
Debian. That's all.

Actually I think that the user must install those type of cards
manually after the installation. And a lot of times compiling the
drivers, patching the kernel, of... :(

It will be nice that this hardware could be detected and installed
like other network cards (for example the Realtek ethernet devices)
and the user could install Debian from the net using a wireless
connection.

Ok, thanks for your consideration. If you need something don't doubt
to send me an e-mail.

Bye!

My Conceptronic CR54RC (RaLink 2500 chipset) PCMCIA WiFi card don't
discovered by the Debian installer. I must to make some modules to do
it work, i see.
