Bug#729203: I agree.

2014-02-14 Thread Joseph Neal
I would also very much like to see fully functional ffmpeg binaries in
debian. I really see little difference here between the situation with
imagemagic and graphicsmagic which has never been a point of contention
as long as I've been aware.

It may be true that the ffmpeg binary is used less often than the
libraries, but when the binary is used, it's often used in much more
mission critical areas. I built a web app for a client that uses
ffmpeg to convert user contributed videos into flv for streaming. The
conversion to libav has been a nightmare.

We've ended up using the deb-multimedia packages for now but using that
repo on a server is something I'd really like to avoid.

As I understand it, the causes of the ffmpeg/libav split were 95%
political. It's really a shame that the consequences of this are being
passed on to users when there was no good reason for it.

Bug#513836: virtualbox-ose: VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH

2009-02-22 Thread Joseph Neal
Did you compile the module yourself? Please keep in mind that only
experimental has vbox 2.x module packages. Unless you use those you have to
 compile them yourself.

No, I was just using what was in sid. I'll try the experimental packages and
then build the modules if that doesn't work.

I should have known better than to upgrade sid this soon after a release.

Bug#507081: seconded

2009-01-16 Thread Joseph Neal
I have a number of non-technical users who would find writing any kind of
markup a challenge to say the least. The integrated FCKeditor was the reason
for choosing moinmoin over other wiki software. For my use, moinmoin is
quite broken without FCKeditor.

I'd really appreciate instructions on how to reenable it, if not more.

I second the bit about seperate curses and gtk packages. This used to be my

Package: txt2tags
Version: 2.3-1

If there is any chance you can get 2.5 into Lenny that would really

The new target types greatly increase t2t's usefullness.

FWIW, you can manually download plugins and put them
in ./azureus/plugins, so there is a workaround for this. Putting
instructions in README.Debian would probably be sufficient for dealing
with this bug, IMHO.

Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0~rc2-1
Severity: minor

The warning presented upon entering about:config states that by changing any

Since Iceweasel is the debian fork of Firefox and debian is distributed without

Bug#429126: New upstream mod_layout supports apache 2.0 and 2.2

2007-10-02 Thread Joseph Neal
Apache2.2 has been supported in mod_layout 5.0 since
February. I'd really like to see it packaged and ideally
backported to stable.

There is also a new version out for 1.3

I'd be glad to help with testing if someone were to make this happen.

Is the maintainer even active?

Strange, it was supposed to be fixed in 2.1.2-6. Current sid is 2.1.3-1,
and there are almost _no_ difference between these packages (our 2.1.2-6
contained all fixes planned for the upcoming 2.1.3). Are you sure it is
the same bug? Can you easily reproduce it? If so, could you downgrade to
2.1.2-6 in testing and check that it does not occur there? Maybe another
 package upgrade broke it again...

OK, I got it working by pointing /etc/alternatives/x-session-manager at
startkde. In the same reboot I swapped out console-tools for kbd which could
have done it but I suspect the session manager was the issue.

Bug#437001: angband: New upstream version available

2007-08-09 Thread Joseph Neal
Package: angband
Version: 1:3.0.6-4
Severity: wishlist

The version of angband in debian is several behind and there have been major
changes upstream including a new maintainer,
autosquelch and deluafication.

http://rephial.org/release

In case you haven't been following rgra, you'll also find this of interest. It
should be possiable to include angband in main
soon.

http://rephial.org/wiki/OpenSource

Sangband has seen a 1.0 release recently. I may take a shot at packaging that
myself if you're not intererested. All the C I know
I learned hacking on angband variants.

Bug#431812: /sbin/discover: radio_maestro is unneeded with ES1978 Maestro 2E

It's been loading this module as long as I can remember. I'm just
now getting around to reporting it.

I do not understand this bug report. According to the information
returned by discover in your bug report, this card maps to the
snd-es1968 kernel module, and not radio_maestro:

   snd-es1968:::ESS Technology ES1978 Maestro 2E

Are you sure discover is the reason why the radio_maestro kernel
 module is loaded during boot?

No, I'm not sure of that. I just googled ES1978 and radio_maesto and found
this konfig diff on lkml so it looks like it's a kernel issue. My card is a
Maestro 2E but it has no onboard radio.

http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/6/25/101

@@ -175,7 +175,7 @@ config RADIO_MAESTRO

Looking at this patch to radio-maestro.c, it again looks like the kernel
expects to find a radio device on this card.

http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0512.3/1362.html

While all traces of the card seem to be gone from the Diamond site, I was able
to find a pdf of the manual on the windows driver install CD. There is no
mention of any radio functionality.

Please feel free to reassign or forward this as appropriate.

Sorry, pet peeve here.

Package description indicates that that the user will be able to produce

In fact, the outlines produced are antithetical to the concept of a mindmap
which are
radial rather than linear. If you have to read it from left to right and top
to bottom,
it's not a mind map. It's an outline.

Bug#390630: no change here

2007-01-13 Thread Joseph Neal
I'm afraid I'm still getting the hang on logout despite installing the
libgl-mesa-dri update as mentioned by the prior respondent to this bug.

I have two desktops built on Gigabyte GA-7VKMLS motherboards which have the
pro-savage DDR chipset. I recently upgraded one from etch to sid to see if
it would help.

Ever since the move to X.Org 7.0 I've had a copious amount of artifacts
regardless of if DRI is enabled or not. Now I can't even switch users
without rebooting. This is a low end embedded chipset. Not many people
using it are going to be too upset if they don't have 3-d acceleration. On
the other hand, if etch is released with things as they are the inability to
change users will have tech bloggers calling it debugin. Would the Xorg
6.9 version of the driver work? I may be forced to go back to slackware or
somthing.

This should really be RC IMHO.

Bug#405162: drupal-4.7: please depend on php5

2007-01-01 Thread Joseph Neal
Package: drupal-4.7
Version: 4.7
Severity: wishlist

Packages which force the continued use of php4 for no good reason are a scourge
upon the web. Arg.

Considering how drupal upstream feels about backwards compatibility, many users
developing drupal applications are going to want to run bleeding edge php
backports. Php6 is going to be out before etch is EOLed and drupal devs will be
likely early adapters.
