what puzzles me is that they use ECM 6.4.4 too, and don't seem to patch
it... but still get a different result!

I haven't tried SAGE's version of ecm, but I can't reproduce your result on
my machine (amd64) using your code. The ecm binary has a distinct error
code for I found the input number, which it correctly returns for me when
it founds 1 as a factor of 1. I don't think the library function has such a
distinction, so you could argue that returning success when finding a
non-proper factor is correct, but I think that's something that should be
reported to upstream to clarify the documentation.

Bug#713399: [Ecm-discuss] Test failure for 6.4.2

2013-07-08 Thread Laurent Fousse
Hello,

On Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 1:32 AM, Alexander Kruppa akru...@gmail.com wrote:

Actually, the fix is intended to resolve this problem. We use internal
functions of GMP (mpn_redc_[12](), among others) for numbers of a
certain sizes, but these two functions changed semantics between GMP
5.0 and 5.1. The failed test case you reported is the first test case
that uses an input number in the range where mpn_redc_1() is used, so
 it triggers the error.

The easiest fix is to use the current GMP-ECM release, 6.4.4, which
uses mpn_redc_[12] correctly with both GMP 5.0.x and GMP 5.1.x.

If you have to stick with 6.4.2 for some reason, you could use GMP
5.0.x, or if that is not possible, manually comment out
 #define HAVE___GMPN_REDC_1 1
 #define HAVE___GMPN_REDC_2 1
 in GMP-ECM's config.h file.

Thanks for clearing that up! I guess the only thing left for me to do here
is package 6.4.4.

Bug#690276: gmp-ecm: please make Conflicts against ecm versioned

2012-10-23 Thread Laurent Fousse
Hello,

* Jonathan Nieder [Thu, Oct 11, 2012 at 03:35:32PM -0700]:
gmp-ecm conflicts with ecm because historically they both provided
ecm commands (bug#580548). Now that cmdpack ecm has been renamed to
ecm-compress, gmp-ecm and ecm are coinstallable and the conflict can
 be made versioned.

 Policy explains:

 | However, normally the presence of an earlier than version clause
 | is a sign that Breaks should have been used instead. An earlier
 | than version clause in Conflicts prevents dpkg from upgrading or
 | installing the package which declares such a conflict until the
 | upgrade or removal of the conflicted-with package has been
 | completed, which is a strong restriction.

so the patch below switches to a Breaks+Replaces. Seems to work ok.

 Thoughts?

Thanks for your patch. gmp-ecm should use a Breaks clause with the
ecm package.

I'm not sure about Replaces. It's not like the ecm binary provided
by the gmp-ecm package provides any similar functionality to the one
provided by the ecm package. What problem does the addition of the
Replace line solve? What's the downside of not having it?

Regards,

Laurent.

Comments/Problems:

Bugs encountered:

1) tried to use zero as a hostname, and ran into #565947 when setting up
encrypted LVM. Going back to the hostname step of the installer to change it
didn't fix the problem (so I did reboot and try again with the black
instead of zero). Not my best day for picking up hostnames.
2) Installing grub failed, the installer wanted to use /dev/sda (the usb stick)
as the target instead of /dev/sdb (the hard drive). Work-around was going to
the shell, chrooting to /target and manually running the failing
grub-install command with /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda. I remember the
curse dialog box not being very helpful at this point.
3) I used dvorak as the keymap, and dvorak is used everywhere *but* when
entering the encryption passphrase to unlock the encrypted lvm for every
   boot. Very frustrating.

For IT admins who want very much to click through thousands of self-signed
certificate warnings and get MitM attacked, this simplifies the process.

Please update the description to verbosely explain how this is such a
terrible idea to use this package unless you really know what you're
doing.

In my .bti I have only the values of consumer_key and consumer_secret

If I downgrade to bti 028-2 (the version that was supposed to be fixed,
at least it was fixed for me when I tried in the past), I get the same

I did not try downgrading though.

Bug#642298: libloudmouth1-0: Can't specify user-trusted certificates

2011-09-21 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: libloudmouth1-0
Version: 1.4.3-7
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

In Debian, loudmouth is compiled with GnuTLS support and a hard-coded
root CA certificate file, which is the system file
/etc/ssl/certificates.crt. There is AFAICT no provision to let the
user manually trust a certificate when first seen, or to have a
user-specified directory of trusted cert files (as the SSL_CERT_DIR
environment variable is used in OpenSSL).

The net result is that the official workaround suggested in mcabber's
documentation when using a self-signed certificate is to skip
certificates validation entirely.

Indeed, I am using cowbuilder.

I attached two build logs, one uses a clean, up to date Sid chroot in
pure pbuilder which works fine, and the corresponding cowbuilder problem
which produces similar build failures than yours.

Thank you for your investigation. I'm merely a cowbuilder user, so I'll
leave it to the cowbuilder experts for now.

Bug#635003: librdf0: insufficient dependancy on libraptor2-0 (cf. #628046)

2011-07-21 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: librdf0
Version: 1.0.13-3
Severity: normal
File: librdf0

Hello,

I can't reopen #628046 as it's archived, but the dependancy on
libraptor2-0 is still only = 2.0.0. That's because librdf0 gets its
dependancy on libraptor2-0 from ${shlibs:Depends} and in the package
raptor2 (2.0.3-1) the shlibs file contains:

libraptor2 0 libraptor2-0 (= 2.0.0)

You need to manually specify a higher version number for libraptor2-0.

The result is that on my system, Libreoffice-writer crashes when
saving files.

Cheers,

Laurent.

Bug#627382: xscreensaver: Fails to lock screen

2011-05-20 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.13-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hello,

Steps to reproduce:

1) launch xscreensaver
2) launch xscreensaver-command -lock in another terminal.
3) The screen starts to turn blank, but returns to normal again
   immediately after turning fully blank.

At this point xscreensaver has exited with the following message:

##

xscreensaver: 11:05:19: X Error! PLEASE REPORT THIS BUG.
xscreensaver: 11:05:19: screen 0/0: 0xaf, 0x0, 0x1a1

Current serial number in output stream: 656

###

If at all possible, please re-run xscreensaver with the command
line arguments `-sync -verbose -log log.txt', and reproduce this
bug. That will cause xscreensaver to dump a `core' file to the
current directory. Please include the stack trace from that core
file in your bug report. *DO NOT* mail the core file itself! That
won't work. A log.txt file will also be written. Please *do*
include the complete log.txt file with your bug report.

http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/bugs.html explains how to create
the most useful bug reports, and how to examine core files.

The more information you can provide, the better. But please
report this bug, regardless!

###

When I try to reproduce the problem with xscreensaver -sync -verbose -log
log.txt,
the screensaver does not exit but is stuck at 100% CPU and not
responding.

It seems they have the same problem in Fedora:

Bug#626581: gitosis: New feature: private subdirs (realm)

Package: gitosis
Version: 0.2+20090917-14.1

Hello,

I've written a patch that enables per-{user,group} subdirectory
delegation. Simply end the name of a repo with a / and that group has
now automatic read-only or read-write access to a whole subtree of the
repositories hierarchy.

I've sent my patch upstream with no reply so far.

Patch attached, or get them from

fwiw, libgmp10-dev Provides: libgmp3-dev (and libgmp-dev). The specific
issue in this case is that libecm-dev's dependency is versioned, and thus
not satisfied by the virtual package.

Thank you both for the report and additionnal information. I'll just

reassign 607201 ftp.debian.org
retitle 607201 RM: mpfr -- ROM, NVIU
thanks

Hello,

* Hector Oron [Wed, Dec 15, 2010 at 04:08:14PM +]:
Package mpfr is now deprecated (mpfr4 is now available) and it is not
 shipped
 along squeeze release.

Could the package be removed from unstable suite?

I agree with this removal request. dak lists two reverse-dependencies
problem:

- libseed0 on alpha, but it is not available on alpha,
- gcc-snapshot on alpha, but it is not available on alpha either.

Regards,

Laurent.

Package: imagemagick

Hello,

The following command results in an infinite loop:

convert -size 600x400 xc:wheat -font URW-Gothic-Book-Oblique
-pointsize 20 -gravity Center -size 580x
caption:'x x'
-append /tmp/output.png

The space between the two words of text is actually U+00A0 NO-BREAK

Bug#609757: freebsd-libs: Please include libmd

2011-01-12 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: freebsd-libs
Version: 8.1-5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

[Resent from the debian-bsd list, per request of Robert Millan]

Hello,

I'm sending the following patch for comments and possibly inclusion.
It introduces the libmd{0,-dev} binary packages in the freebsd-libs
source package. libmd is a message digest library (it includes digest
algorithms from the MD{4,5} and SHA{1,2} family).

My ultimate goal here is to have support for encrypted disk devices
(the eli class in geom), and libmd is a dependancy of the userland
geli(8) utility.

Laurent.

Bug#606742: mutt: mail-key function is broken when crypt_use_gpgme is set.

2010-12-11 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.20-9
Severity: normal

Hello,

Mailing a PGP public key with Esc-k is broken when using the gpgme
crypto backend.

Steps to reproduce:

1)
% echo set crypt_use_gpgme=yes /tmp/broken
% mutt -F /tmp/broken

alternatively, launch mutt with a gpg-agent if you don't have one
already running:

% gpg-agent --daemon mutt -F /tmp/broken

2) Type Esc-k to mail a public key. You are asked for recipient
and subject, but not for a keyid. Nothing more happens.

Laurent.

Err, then for coherency we should put such links in all the preseed
sections to their main body counterparts.

Maybe. My point is, this feature is currently not documented at all in
§B.4.3 and appears under §6.3.8, Miscellaneous. It deserves better
cross-linking. This is not the only section under §B.4 where you get
merely the example configuration snippet. I think my patch is an
improvement, but consistency is nice too :-)

Yes, I've seen it now that I have the source. I think a link to

the appendix.

2010-11-11 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: debian-installer
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

The login to use for the network console of the installer is
installer. This is TTBOMK not mentioned in the installer's
documentation or in the example preseed file. This is mentioned during
the installation process itself, but since I am installing blind
(see #603035) it would be nice to have this information in the
documentation.

Laurent.

Bug#603035: kfreebsd-i386: broken display

2010-11-10 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

-- Package-specific info:

Boot method: usb stick
Image version: daily mini.iso (20101107)
Date: 20101107

Machine: VIA Nehemia CPU, VIA graphics chipset
Partitions: df -Tl will do; the raw partition table is preferred

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot: [O]
Detect network card:[ ]
Configure network: [ ]
Detect CD: [ ]
Load installer modules: [ ]
Detect hard drives: [ ]
Partition hard drives: [ ]
Install base system:[ ]
Clock/timezone setup: [ ]
User/password setup:[ ]
Install tasks: [ ]
Install boot loader:[ ]
Overall install:[ ]

Comments/Problems:

I ran the installation process from a usb stick. GRUB displays fine, I
pick Default install. After the ramdisk and kernel are loaded, I can
see briefly about half a page of kernel information, but the remainder
of the kernel boot messages are shrunk to a single line. The boot
proceeds to the first install dialog, which is unreadable, see:

http://imgur.com/u5dLql0aTCB?full

Here are the results of my experimentations on this machine:

- I changed grub's display mode, to see if the use of gfxterm was
the root cause of the problem. Setting output_terminal text
  does not solve the problem.
- I installed FreeBSD 8.1 (no problem encountered) to see if
FreeBSD's kernel was unable to use my graphic card properly, but
  the dispaly is fine.
- I tried to install using a serial console, but it failed (I can
get grub's I/O on the serial console, but not the install
  process). Is it feasible?
- I tried to cheat and boot FreeBSD's kernel as it is on my disk
to bypass the kernel used in mini.iso, but I get a kernel panic.

My guess is that kfreebsd's kernel in the install images differs from
upstream in such a way that it no longer supports my graphic card
properly. Graphics are provided by an onboard VIA chip, I'll provide
more information about it later.

Laurent.

Bug#595948: Please provide a libmpfr4-dbg package

2010-10-10 Thread Laurent Fousse
Hello Vincent,

* Vincent Lefevre [Tue, Sep 07, 2010 at 04:54:25PM +0200]:
Many libraries provide a -dbg package into order to help debugging
and providing better bug reports, but not mpfr4.

Thanks for this suggestion. In fact we don't get many bugreports in
the debian bts, but I agree it would be a good thing to have a -dbg
package. I'll add it as time permits.

Ok, so please run gdb with:

 and run --single-process

I think it's still the same backtrace, but here it is.

I suspect you have non-standars libs/driver, have you installed some
relative software/libs from third party repositories?

I had a leftover lib.GL.so.whatever that was not properly uninstalled
from a previous installation of some nvidia driver. So now it works.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Does this happen also with chromium-browser --temp-profile ?

Yes.

Bug#595782: gcc-4.4: wrong conversion from unsigned int to float on sparc

2010-09-06 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: gcc-4.4
Version: 4.4.4-11
Severity: normal

Hello,

The present bugreport is a followup to #593193 and a regression wrt
4.3.

Steps to reproduce:

(sid)smetana:~/gcc-4.4/gmp-ecm-6.3$ cat bug.c
#include stdio.h

int
main()
{
  unsigned int t = 254733465;
  float f;
  f = (float) t;
  printf (t=%u f=%.0f\n, t, f);
}

(sid)smetana:~/gcc-4.4/gmp-ecm-6.3$ gcc-4.4 bug.c; ./a.out
t=254733465 f=482062944

(sid)smetana:~/gcc-4.4/gmp-ecm-6.3$ gcc-4.3 bug.c; ./a.out
t=254733465 f=254733472

The correct result is the second one, since the closest single precision
float (24-bit significand) from 254733465 is 254733472.

Many thanks to Lucas Nussbaum and Paul Zimmermann for working on this
bug.

Regards,

Laurent Fousse.

Bug#593193: gmp-ecm: FTBFS on sparc: Assertion failed during tests

2010-08-31 Thread Laurent Fousse
Hello,

* Mehdi Dogguy [Mon, Aug 16, 2010 at 08:18:16AM +0200]:
Your package gmp-ecm/6.3-2 fails to build from source on sparc:
[...]
The full build log can be found at:
 https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=gmp-ecmarch=sparcver=6.3-2stamp=1281775571file=logas=raw

Thank you for the report. I can reproduce it on smetana.d.o in the sid
chroot, using the default compiler (gcc-4.4.5), pristine upstream source
compiled with

./configure CFLAGS=-O0 -ggdb make make check

However, the package builds fine using gcc-4.3 so it could be a
compiler issue. I'll look into it next week, but help would be
appreciated. The problematic C file is pm1fs2.c according to the abort
message, and comparison of the assembly files for each compiler does
not help me (I don't grok sparc assembly).

Laurent.

Bug#580398: ecm and gmp-ecm: error when trying to install together

2010-08-30 Thread Laurent Fousse
Hello,

* Ralf Treinen [Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 10:34:38AM +0200]:
this bug still exists in squeeze since we still have gmp-ecm/6.2-1 in
squeeze. Migration of 6.3-3 to squeeze is currently blocked by
#593193. Maybe a separate bug fix of #580398 (through
testing-proposed-updates?) would be in order to fix this bug in squeeze?

I kind of hoped to have the build failure fixed on sparc... I'll see
how to upload to t-p-u.
