Bug#782336: okular: Cannot print from okular

2024-05-24 Thread Leo L. Schwab
Package: okular
Version: 4:23.08.1-2+b1
Followup-For: Bug #782336

Dear Maintainer,

I'm observing the same behavior. In my specific case, I was
trying to print a range of pages from a PDF. Instead, an `lpr` usage
message appeared on the terminal:

```
usage: lpr [-cdfghlmnpqrstv] [-#num] [-1234 font] [-C class] [-i [numcols]]
[-J job] [-Pprinter] [-T title] [-U user] [-wnum] [name ...]
```

`okular` itself reports no error or any other indication that
the print operation failed.

It's not listed in the dependencies below, but I also have
installed:
* cups v2.4.7-1.1+b1
* lpr 1:2008.05.17.3+nmu2

You are correct.

It looks like in commit 1eeb59a2099 you added the libharfbuzz
dependency (6 months ago).
But you did not include this change in the Changelog. I will guess
that downstream packagers, including Debian and whoever it is who
builds unofficial binaries, missed this new dependency. Hence, their
packages are broken.

Please fix this, Paul. Those folks shouldn't need to wade through
every commit message in order to build ffmpeg correctly.

Bug#1056597: ffmpeg: drawtext filter missing from ffmpeg binaries

2023-11-28 Thread Leo Butler
The original bug-report expresses doubt about the solution proposed.

As documented here:
https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-all.html#drawtext-1

the build must be configured with both --enable-libfreetype and
--enable-libharfbuzz.

I can confirm that is correct, when building ffmpeg against current git
head.

Package: qterminal
Version: 1.2.0-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

QTerminal on my Debian stable fresh installation just crashes with a
segmentation fault when launched in its "drop down" mode. The standard mode
works normally.

Example of command and the observedd error message (no window shows up):

$ qterminal --drop
QSocketNotifier: Can only be used with threads started with QThread
Segmentation fault

I've tried to delete its configuration files so that it would do a fresh

Bug#1038117: util-linux: resume building of static libs

Don't wanna come off too abrasive here, but:
$ apt-file search -lx '^/usr/lib/.*\.a$' | sort | uniq | wc -l
6849

That doesn't look very narrow 
Also, policy explicitly mentions it as "usually provided"[0], which -
granted - doesn't mean you *have* to do it, but does kinda endorse it.

Just because we (via policy) forbid linking statically within debian,
it shouldn't mean we have to unnecessarily alienate out users (in this
case myself ) when they want to do it on their systems.

> I think if you do custom stuff for minimal containers etc, its best

Not sure I understand the reasoning: a library is a tool, in the
broadest sense. Our users rely on debian providing a usable gcc to
build stuff, just as they rely on us providing libs for them to link
against, dynamically or otherwise. AFAICT there's nothing particularly
debian-specific about this?

But don't get me wrong: if there's a technical reason I'm overlooking,
then the points above are irrelevant, of course.

Source: util-linux

Dear Maintainers,

During the bump to dh13 a couple of years back the static libs were
removed from all *-dev packages[0].
This change has the unfortunate side-effect of making it impossible to
actually use the libraries in static builds (e.g. when building for
minimal container scenarios).

It would be great if we could either re-introduce them or at least add
a comment explaining the reasoning behind the removal (to avoid future
me bumping into this again ;))

Since we missed the freeze anyway, I'd suggest we give upstream a couple more

What does "fail to verify" mean? Does it invalidate the whole download? Or are
they stuck in some state?
My test upgrade triggered verifications for all existing torrents, but once
verifications were done, all seemed good.

Bug#1030857: transmission: New 4.0 version is available

2023-02-22 Thread Leo Antunes
Hi,

Just FYI: I have done some work in the salsa repo[0], but there are still a few
kinks to iron out before we can ship it. It builds, but my debhelper-foo is a
bit rusty :)

If anyone wants to jump in and finish it up, I wouldn't complain!

Bug#1029170: ITP: golang-github-sigstore-sigstore -- Common go library shared across sigstore services and clients

2023-02-05 Thread Leo Antunes
Hi Reinhard,

It seems I underestimated the work and overestimated by free time: we need some
bumps for deps (e.g. golang-github-azure-azure-sdk-for-go-dev) and maybe some
patching to get rid of other deps (e.g. github.com/letsencrypt/boulder), if we
can manage that.
OTOH, I see you already took care of #1030555 and #1030557! That's great! :)

Cheers
Leo

Bug#1029170: ITP: golang-github-sigstore-sigstore -- Common go library shared across sigstore services and clients

2023-01-20 Thread Leo Antunes
Hi Reinhard!

I think this changed a bit in the meantime: now the sigstore project has mostly
shared lib code, while the individual commands (rekor, fulcio, gitsign, etc)
are all in separate repos. So I expect this library to not be THAT difficult to
package (the next one on my list is rekor - see #990249 - which will probably
require more work).
As soon as #1022937 is done (waiting in NEW since 2 months), I expect sigstore
to be a quick follow-up.
However, I'd gladly take an extra pair of eyes on the package, so I can ping
you as soon as I have something that builds.

Thanks,
Leo Antunes

Bug#1002821: lyx-common: String/Bytes Problem in layout2layout.py

2021-12-29 Thread Leo L. Schwab
Package: lyx-common
Version: 2.3.6-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch upstream
X-Debbugs-Cc: ew...@ewhac.org

Dear Maintainer,

Discovered this while trying to use Editorium's LyXBook modules.
layout2layout.py was konking out with "TypeError: cannot use a bytes
pattern on a string-like object." After a bunch of debugging, I found
some strings in the script that hadn't been bytes-ified, which seemed to
fix the problem.  Patch attached.

Just pushed to the main repo. Please take a look and let me know if it works!

Just requested access to the Gnome group, but that may take a while.

I'm not a gnome-extension expert, so I'll push my changes so that the
package is at least gpb-buildable, and you can then maybe check that
the build makes sense and upload it yourself if you want.

I think I managed to convert it to a gbp project successfully. Take a look here:
https://salsa.debian.org/costela/gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor

Basic steps (in a freshly cloned salsa repo):

  git checkout --orphan upstream
  git rm -rf .
  git commit --allow-empty -m 'initial upstream commit'
  git checkout -f master
  gbp import-orig ../
  gbp dch

Both upstream and pristine-tar branches look clean (do not branch from
master) and we can keep the repo's history.

Jonathan, Samual, does that seem ok to you?
Unfortunately the branch-creation involved in the process can't really
be proposed via MR, so if this seems ok, one of us would have to "just
do it" ;)

Bug#993539: [Pkg-zsh-devel] Bug#993539: "functions/Misc.zwc" isn't compiled from the bundled source files

2021-09-04 Thread Leo Gama
[image: image.gif][image: image.gif]Hi, Axel.

Thanks for the prompt response.

Hrm, yes, but this is caused by this sed call in debian/rules:

  # Doesn't this need to go before we zcompile stuff into .zwc files? --
Axel
sed -i -e 's,^local HELPDIR=.*,local
HELPDIR=$${HELPDIR:-/usr/share/zsh/help},;
s,:-more,:-/usr/bin/pager,;' \
debian/zsh-common/usr/share/zsh/functions/Misc/run-help
sed -i -e '1!b;s:^#!.*[ /]zsh:#!/bin/zsh:;s#/usr/local/bin#/usr/bin#;'
\
`find debian/zsh-common/usr/share/zsh/functions -type f`

Oh, I see it now. Maybe I even read this comment, but before understanding
what was going on, so haven't got my attention.

For the fix, is it possible to edit the 'configure' file that sets the
'runhelpdir' variable before compilation? The path is not hardcoded in the
'run-help' source file. Something in the lines of:

sed -i -e "s,/'\$${VERSION}'/,/," configure

or even

sed -i -e 's,/[^/]\+/\(functions\|help\),/\1,' configure

Bug#993539: "functions/Misc.zwc" isn't compiled from the bundled source files

2021-09-02 Thread Leo Gama
Package: zsh-common
Version: 5.8-7

Files affected (at least):
/usr/share/zsh/functions/Misc.zwc
/usr/share/zsh/functions/Misc/run-help

If I try to call "run-help" at a ZSH prompt, it reports:
> $ run-help
> There is no list of special help topics available at this time.

And trying to use it to see the help text for any built-in command just
opens a man page for zsh...

Turns out that the default HISTDIR (which is wrong) in the file that
contains the bytecode compiled version of "run-help" is different from the
default in the source code "run-help" file:
> $ grep 'HELPDIR:-/' /usr/share/zsh/functions/Misc/run-help
> local HELPDIR=${HELPDIR:-/usr/share/zsh/help}
> $ strings /usr/share/zsh/functions/Misc.zwc | grep 'HELPDIR:-/'
> HELPDIR:-/usr/share/zsh/5.8/help
> HELPDIR:-/usr/share/zsh/5.8/help

Setting HELPDIR fixes it, as expected.

It seems something went wrong in a modified building process for this
package --all sourced and compiled files for functions have identical
modification times, so at least they were "touched". I couldn't find a way,
inspecting the build script (debian/rules) and the source for "run-help",
it would end with this result.

 gonfig is a configuration library designed using the following
 principles:
 - The configuration variables are fully specified and loaded into a
   struct variable.
 - You only need one statement to load the configuration fully.
 - Configuration variables can be retrieved from various sources, in
   this order of increasing priority:
   - default values from the struct definition

  Description : wireguard overlay mesh network manager
 wesher creates and manages an encrypted mesh overlay network across a
 group of nodes, using wireguard.
 .
 Its main use-case is adding low-maintenance security to public-cloud
 networks or connecting different cloud providers.
 .
 WARNING: since mesh membership is controlled by a mesh-wide pre-shared
 key, this effectively downgrades some of the security benefits from
 wireguard. See security considerations in README for more details.

Bug#963092: ITP: healpix-fortran -- HEALPix representation of spherical data - Fortran library

2020-06-18 Thread Leo Singer
Package: wnpp

* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Fortran
  Description : HEALPix representation of spherical data - Fortran library

HEALPix is an acronym for Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelization
of a sphere. As suggested in the name, this pixelization produces a
subdivision of a spherical surface in which each pixel covers the same
surface area as every other pixel. It is commonly used to store all-sky
astronomical images, most famously maps of the cosmic microwave background.
This package provides the Fortran language implementation of HEALPix.

This package has been requested by a fellow Debian member, Ole Streicher,
to support the 4MOST instrumment
(https://www.eso.org/sci/facilities/develop/instruments/4MOST.html).

The package will be maintained by the Debian Astro Team.

Bug#958216: thunderbird: digital pkcs7 s/mime signature is not recognized - please close

2020-04-20 Thread Leo

The "X-" in the mime type is the mistake and not the "micalg". I pass

Not that I'm any kind of expert on Debian policy, but a naive
reading of section 2.2.1 suggests that the libraries needed for CUDA support
could be listed as "Suggests" (rather than "Recommends" or "Depends") and
still qualify for inclusion in 'main'.

We're not talking about CUDA; we're talking about OpenCL. I was
merely illustrating that 'darktable' has no issue using the OpenCL
support on my NVIDIA card. The presence of the word "CUDA" is an artifact
of the device version reported by NVIDIA's OpenCL stack.

Bug#945158: if laptop lid is closed during suspend, gdm session is reset upon resume (NVIDIA?)

2019-12-18 Thread Leo "Costela" Antunes
Hi,

I've been seeing the same behavior for the past few weeks (months?),
but didn't get around to debugging it.
Symptoms match pretty exactly: closing the lid leads to a logout
(session crash?); suspending via power button does not.

Superficially, this seems considerably more likely to be related to
gdm/gnome-screensaver/gnome-session than to systemd. Just installed a
new system, restored a few user config files from backup (including
~/.config/dconf) and the issue popped up again.
My suggestion would be to reopen and reassign this to a gnome package,
so we can keep digging.

BTW: my setup is a pretty vanilla wayland gnome session on an intel card.

Cheers,
Leo

Dear Maintainer,

This may be related: When attempting to enable OpenCL in the
preferences, a small panel appears claiming: "No compatible GPUs found
for path tracing. Cycles will render on the CPU."

I have an NVIDIA GTX-1070Ti with proprietary DKMS drivers
installed, version 430.40.  I also have Darktable installed;
`darktable-cltest` runs successfully, and (in part) outputs the
following info:

```
[opencl_init] device 0: GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
 GLOBAL_MEM_SIZE:  8116MB
 MAX_WORK_GROUP_SIZE:  1024
 MAX_WORK_ITEM_DIMENSIONS: 3
 MAX_WORK_ITEM_SIZES:  [ 1024 1024 64 ]
 DRIVER_VERSION:   430.40
 DEVICE_VERSION:   OpenCL 1.2 CUDA
```

Hope this helps.

Bug#939622: blender: Subdivision Surface Modifier Doesn't Work

2019-09-06 Thread Leo L. Schwab
Package: blender
Version: 2.80+dfsg-3+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Many introductory YouTube videos to Blender make use of the
Subdivision Surface modifier. It was while following one of these
tutorials for the new Blender 2.8 that I noticed it's not working.

To reproduce:
- Launch Blender
- Press DEL or 'X' to delete the default cube.
- Press SHIFT-A; add a torus or sphere to the workspace.
- In the right-hand properties panel, click on the
  wrench/spanner icon to enter the modifiers panel.
- Click on Add Modifier; select Subdivision Surface.

What should happen is that the faces of the sphere/torus you
added above should be subdivided to yield a finer mesh. Further, by
increasing the value of the Viewport value, you should be able to
increase the amount of subdivision.

In my installation, nothing happens, and the displayed mesh
remains unchanged.

Next, click on the Apply button in the modifier panel.
Normally, this "commits" the subdivided mesh to the workspace, replacing
the original. In my installation, an error is displayed, reading:

"Modifier returned error; skipping apply"

Some brief Googling consistently suggested that this issue is
related to a stale or misconfigured build directory; hence this report.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I recall that setting -mpc64 also fixed this, but I gather from the gcc
documentation that -ffloat-store is more correct because it ensures correct
rounding for both single and double precision variables. Do you agree?

Bug#923500: snapd: non-classic snap not confined

2019-02-28 Thread Leo Antunes
Package: snapd
Version: 2.37.3-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I just started experimenting with snaps and noticed my (pretty vanilla)
installation is silently not confining snaps. E.g.:

$ snap install hello-world
2019-03-01T00:20:19+01:00 INFO Waiting for restart...
hello-world 6.3 from Canonical✓ installed
$ snap run --shell hello-world
$ ls /
bin boot ...

Since the hello-world snap has no interfaces, I'd expect it to deny
access to / (like in snap's tutorial), but this is not the case.

Neither installation nor running the command (or its shell) give off any
indication something might be wrong

I'm an AppArmor newbie, but the generated profile (attached) seems a bit
too permissive. That is generated and loaded by snap itself, right?

Here's some further debug info. I imagine the lack of "strict" is the
problem, but it's not obvious to me why snap cannot enable it.
--
$ snap debug confinement
partial

$ snap debug sandbox-features
apparmor: kernel:caps kernel:domain kernel:file kernel:mount
kernel:namespaces kernel:network_v8 kernel:policy kernel:ptrace kernel:query
kernel:rlimit kernel:signal parser:unsafe policy:downgraded
support-level:partial
confinement-options:  classic devmode
dbus: mediated-bus-access
kmod: mediated-modprobe
mount:freezer-cgroup-v1 layouts mount-namespace
per-snap-persistency per-snap-profiles per-snap-updates per-snap-user-profiles
stale-base-invalidation
seccomp:  bpf-argument-filtering kernel:allow kernel:errno
kernel:kill_process kernel:kill_thread kernel:log kernel:trace kernel:trap
udev: device-cgroup-v1 tagging

Setting severity to important because I'd argue this is a security
breach: the expectation of confinement is silently not met, potentialy
leading to information leakage.

Cheers,
Leo

Bug#918925: i3: Status and title bar text do not appear with default config file

2019-01-18 Thread Leo Singer
Package: i3
Version: 4.16-1
Followup-For: Bug #918925

Actually, removing the 'pango:' string from the font option is just causing
it to fall back to the fixed-width X core font.

I tried using a handful of other fonts, such as:

font pango:Bistream Vera Sans Mono 8

And it turns out that the title and status bar text are missing for *any* pango
font option.

I looked through ~/.xsession-errors and I did not see any font-related errors.

Oddly enough, the title and status bar text do become visible if I change the

font pango:monospace 8

to this:

Bug#919535: surf: AppArmor profile forbids access to publicsuffix data

2019-01-16 Thread Leo Singer
Package: surf
Version: 2.0+git20181009-2.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

surf is not able to access the following two files due to its apparmor
profile:

[ 5565.325749] audit: type=1400 audit(1547681461.606:127): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="/usr/bin/surf"
name="/usr/share/publicsuffix/public_suffix_list.dafsa" pid=29897
comm="WebKitNetworkPr" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0
[ 5565.328420] audit: type=1400 audit(1547681461.610:128): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="/usr/bin/surf"
name="/usr/share/publicsuffix/public_suffix_list.dat" pid=29897
comm="WebKitNetworkPr" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

I have included a patch.

Leo

Bug#919534: surf: AppArmor profile forbids creation of ~/.cache directory

2019-01-16 Thread Leo Singer
Package: surf
Version: 2.0+git20181009-2.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The AppArmor profile for surf prevents it from creating the ~/.cache
directory. This might be a rare corner case since it is only likely
to occur if surf is almost the first program that the user runs after
they create the account. There is a simple workaround of just creating
the ~/.cache directory before running surf.

The AppArmor audit message looks like this:

[ 6822.134705] audit: type=1400 audit(1547682718.416:151):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="mkdir" profile="/usr/bin/surf"
name="/home/leo/.cache/" pid=5877 comm="WebKitWebProces"
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

Thanks,
Leo

2019-01-15 Thread Leo Pound Singer
I just reinstalled buster to switch from armhf to aarch64, so my system is now
pretty bare and unmodified other than installing build-essential, i3, and some
python3 packages. Nevertheless I was able to reproduce the issue.

I installed and ran font-manager from within i3 and nothing looks out of the
ordinary.

Bug#918926: Surf still cannot start dmenu due to permission denied error

2019-01-15 Thread Leo Pound Singer
I just did a fresh installation of buster on my Rapsberry Pi to switch from
armhf to aarch64, and I am still finding that surf cannot start dmenu due to
the same permission denied error. I have surf-2.0+git20181009-2.

gnome-specimen is not in buster. It has been removed from Debian.

Bug#918925: i3: Status and title bar text do not appear with default config file

2019-01-10 Thread Leo Singer
Package: i3
Version: 4.16-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I installed i3 under Debian Buster (armhf) on a Raspberry Pi 3B+. With the
automatically generated configuration file, the i3 title and status bars are
blank.

I found that I could get the title and status bar text to show up by employing
the workaround of uncommenting the following font option in
~/.config/i3/config:

font -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--13-120-75-75-C-70-iso10646-1

I do not know if this issue also occurs on more commonplace amd64 systems.

Would you please modify the package so that the title and status bar text are
visible with the default, automatically generated i3 config file?

Regards,
Leo

Bug#917607: udev 240 Makes System Unbootable; rootfs Not Found

Hrm. I don't think it's the kernel that saved you.

Try this:
- Have a rescue boot volume handy (CD, DVD, USB stick, etc.).
- Save off a copy of /boot/initrd.img-4.18.0-?-amd64 (or whatever
  your actual version is) to a safe place.
- As root, run "update-initramfs -u -k all".  The "-k all" arguments
  will update all available initramfs images to contain udev 240-2
  (not just the latest one).
- Reboot.

If your experience is anything like mine, you will once again be
dropped to an initramfs prompt with no modules loaded, illustrating that the
problem is not kernel-specific.

- Reboot using the rescue disk, and move your working initrd.img.*
  file back into place; reboot.

BTW, someone might want to have a word with the DEB repository
people and have them put back 239-15, because 240-x is clearly not ready for
prime time.

What's going wrong is that there are no kernel modules loaded,
including 'ahci' which runs the SATA bus.

Just for laughs, I re-installed udev 240-2 and rebooted. As before,
the boot failed, leaving me at an initramfs prompt. 'lsmod' reported no
kernel modules loaded, and the directory /dev/disk did not exist.

I then ran 'modprobe ahci' at the command prompt, and immediately
heard some brief chattering from the disks. I then found the /dev/sd*
devices had been created, and the /dev/disk tree had been populated,
including /dev/disk/by-uuid. 'lsmod' now reported sd_mod, sr_mod, cdrom,
ahci, libahci, libata, and scsi_mod as loaded.

So, something that used to trigger kernel module loading isn't
happening anymore.

BTW, my rootfs is not encrypted, so 'cryptsetup' isn't involved.

Oh, sorry, left out partition info.

/etc/fstab by itself won't make much sense, as it's all UUIDs.
Further, the system dual-boots Win7 and Linux, spending most of its time in
the latter.

This will probably be more useful to you:

/dev/sda4 -- Linux rootfs.
/dev/sda5 -- Windows swap (swapfile.sys is forced here).
