Bug#453938: linux-libertine: Unable to use old-style figures
Package: linux-libertine Version: 2.6-2 Severity: normal Hi, Currently, it's impossible to use old-style figures (which are part of the Linux Libertine fonts), at least from GTK+ applications such as Inkscape. By default, Unicode `0', `1', etc., are mapped to glyphs `zero', `one', etc., which correspond to "normal" figures. Glyphs for old-style figures are named `zero.taboldstyle', `one.taboldstyle', etc., as can be seen using FontForge (other alternate glyphs are available as well, e.g., for superscripts and subscripts). Unfortunately, I have no idea how the various tools and libraries involved could be made to use these alternate glyphs. Bug#422108: linux-libertine: Erroneous Defoma hints for Type 1 fonts
Package: linux-libertine Version: 2.4.9-2 Severity: important Tags: patch Hi, Some of the font and family names for Type 1 fonts in the hints file are erroneous. The attached patch fixes this. Moreover, is it intentional that the `FontName' in the hints file for the Type 1 fonts does not match the `FontName' in the corresponding AFM file? This proves to be quite inconvenient, see my post: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.fonts/374 The `lmodern' hints, for instance, seem to be using the AFM `FontName'. Bug#379901: gs-gpl: `ps2pdf' fails to embed URW++ fonts from `gsfonts'
Package: gs-gpl Version: 8.50-1.1 Severity: normal Hi, GS contains a mapping (under the file `Fontmap.GS') that allows it to properly map Adobe font names (e.g., `Times-Roman') to their free equivalent font by URW++ (e.g., `NimbusRomNo9L-Regu' --- these fonts are available in the `gsfonts' package). However, when converting a PS file that refers to the Adobe font names (in DSC comments) to PDF with the `prepress' setting (using `ps2pdf -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress'; this setting tells GS to embed all fonts in the resulting PDF file, among other things), GS does _not_ embed the URW++ fonts in the resulting file, although the fontmap file is accessible. Bug#362127: xpdf-utils: `pdftops' produces invalid PostScript when source PDF contains PS patterns (converted by GS)
Package: xpdf-utils Version: 3.01-7 Severity: normal Hello, `pdftops' generates invalid PostScript when the source PDF comes from a converted PostScript files containing patterns. To be clearer, let me illustrate this, using Lout (package `lout', version 3.31): $ cat << EOF | lout -o texture.ps @SysInclude { doc } @Doc @Text @Begin @Center @Box paint { black } texture { striped } { Blurps! } @End @Text EOF $ pdf2ps texture.ps # GS happily does the job $ xpdf texture.pdf # Here a box containing a striped texture is # rendered, no problem. $ pdftops texture.pdf texture.broken.ps $ gv texture.broken.ps # Here GS complains and fails to render # the PS file. Note that this problem does not occur with Xpdf 3.00 (from Debian). I tried to reproduce the problem with a simple PS file but fail to do so. For instance, the following PS file (which produces a PS pattern similar to that produced by Lout above) does no trigger this problem: %! <> >>setpagedevice 72 72 scale << /PatternType 1 % tiling pattern /TilingType 1 % constant spacing /XStep 1 /YStep 2 /PaintType 1 % colored /PaintProc { pop 0 0 moveto 1 1 add 0 lineto 0 1 rlineto 0 1 lineto closepath fill } /BBox [0 0 10 10] >> [1 0 0 1 0 0] % identity makepattern setpattern newpath 0 0 moveto 0 200 lineto 200 100 lineto closepath fill showpage It might be Lout's handling of PS patterns that is at fault, although I'd suppose it is unlikely since GS doesn't complain about it. I hope this is not too obscure. I'd be glad to help further. Bug#330880: xtla: `tla-edit-log' triggers a bug in Emacs or Xt
Package: xtla Version: 1.1-1 Severity: normal Hi, The `tla-edit-log' command, on my machine, sometimes hangs GNU Emacs under X11 (I'd say it hangs once every 10 `tla-edit-log' calls or so). More precisely, Emacs hangs while typing text into the syntax-highlighted buffer provided by `tla-edit-log'. This is something I've only experienced while typing text in `tla-edit-log''s buffer. At first sight, it seems to be related either to X, Xt, or Emacs' X GUI. However, although it does not directly relate to `xtla', I thought reporting this bug against `xtla' might help since other people may experience the same problem. Bug#291050: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-sparc32: Circular Dependency Between `libc6' and `kernel-image-xxx-sparc32'
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-sparc32 Severity: important Hi, As already discussed in the past [1], there is currently a circular dependency on sparc32 between recent kernel image packages available in Debian unstable and recent `libc6' packages. This problem makes it practically impossible to upgrade from stable to unstable or testing (I doubt the solution proposed in [2] really works since one won't be able to launch _any_ executable coming from `stable' once the the new glibc is in place, due to symbol versioning). Also, there doesn't seem to be any `kernel-image-2.4.26-*' package in `testing' as said in [3]. The `kernel-image-2.4.27-1-sparc32' package in there depends on `libc6' which is known to depend on a 2.4.21 or newer kernel. Building a new "transitional" kernel image was proposed [4] but it doesn't seem to be available so far. Thanks, Ludovic. Bug#290001: lmodern: Creating a TeX-independent font package
Package: lmodern Severity: wishlist Hi, The `lmodern' currently depends on TeX which is unfortunate since other packages (such as `lout') would benefit from being able to use the Latin Modern fonts without having to install several megabytes of TeX related software. Therefore, I think it would be nice to split `lmodern' into two packages, one of which (e.g. `lmodern-fonts') would not depend on TeX and would only provide the AFM and PFB (PFA would be nice too) files of the actual Latin Modern fonts. Bug#289999: includeres: Add PFA files in /usr/lib/psutils
Package: psutils Version: 1.17-16 Severity: normal Hi, The `includeres' script looks for PFA font files to include in /usr/lib/psutils. For each `%%IncludeResource' comment found in the source PS file, it looks for a file with the same name in /usr/lib/psutils, optionnally ending in `.pfa'. The name of resources (i.e. fonts) is the same for all PostScript-producing programs: it's the name defined in the AFM file of the font. It should be sufficient to create in /usr/lib/psutils symlinks to the actual PFA files which will likely be stored in /usr/share/fonts/type1/ . In order to automate the inclusion of PFA files in /usr/lib/psutils, the `psutils' package should provide a `psutils.defoma' script which would be executed every time a new font is added by Defoma. Bug#289997: lout-common: Support for the inclusion of new fonts
Package: lout-common Version: 3.30-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, The `lout' package lacks support for easily making it benefit from other fonts that get installed on the system. Ideally, `lout' (or rather `lout-common') should provide a `lout.defoma' script so that Defoma can know about it. Such a script should be able to add/remove @FontDef entries from Lout's `fontdefs.ld' database (in a way similar to how several packages modify `inetd.conf') and run `lout -x'. Otherwise, it could simply create a new font database file (e.g. `cm-fonts.ld' for Computer Modern, etc.) for each new font package, although this is much less elegant. Obviously, the script should also create/remove a symlink to the AFM file of each new font in /usr/share/lout/font. For details, see http://snark.niif.spb.su/~uwe/lout/essays/1365.fonts.txt (the `fontdef' thing is outdated). Unfortunately, while there are lots of `ttf-*' packages and `xfonts-*' packages, there aren't many Type1 font packages. The `lmodern' package (which would be very useful), for instance, is currently too dependent on TeX so it may need to either be fixed (e.g. split into two packages) or we could create a `lout-font-lmodern' package. Bug#289642: skribe: Adding an STkLos-based Skribe package
Package: skribe Version: 1.2b-1 Severity: wishlist The current `skribe' package contains a version of Skribe compiled with Bigloo. Skribe, however, is also ported to STkLos and it would be nice to let the user choose between these two implementations (STkLos and Bigloo are quite different Scheme implementations and some of these differences are indeed visible to the Skribe end-user). This new package could be named `skribe-stklos', and it could replace `skribe'; `skribe' should be set to replace `skribe-stklos' as well, so that only one of these two packages is available. I'm not sure it would be very useful to allow both implementations to be installed anyway. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages skribe depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
