Bug#1070976: RFP: cntr -- cntr is a replacement for docker exec that brings all your developer tools with you
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-r...@lists.debian.org * Package name: cntr Version : 1.5.3 Upstream Contact: Jörg Thalheim * URL : https://github.com/Mic92/cntr * License : MIT Programming Lang: Rust Description : cntr is a replacement for docker exec that brings all your developer tools with you cntr is a replacement for docker exec that brings all your developer tools with you. This is done by mounting the file system from one container or the host into the target container by creating a nested container with the help of a FUSE filesystem. This allows to ship minimal runtime image in production and limit the surface for exploits, while beign able to debug containers with more tools. It support most container technologies. I think it's a cool tool to have (containers are famously hard to debug from the inside and the outside. This tool provides both worlds together. retitle 1063591 RFP: anew -- Tool for adding new lines to files, skipping duplicates (program) noowner 1063591 The anew project isn't very active at the moment. There are open bug issues on GitHub that haven't been addressed. For this reason, I won't proceed with the effort to package anew for Debian. I've opened an issue on the project's GitHub repository, but haven't received any responses. This is yet another reason not to pursue this packaging task further. I am immensely grateful for the work done by the upstream team, but adhering to Debian's best practices, it doesn't make sense to continue with this packaging endeavor.

Thanks for your reply. I did some work on the package, and have uploaded it here: https://mentors.debian.net/package/netkit-telnet-ssl/ The source for it can be found here: https://salsa.debian.org/marado/netkit-telnet-ssl One of the changes I did was to 'adopt' the package by claiming to be the maintainer, https://salsa.debian.org/marado/netkit-telnet-ssl/-/commit/9e2ca9aadab47bfbe1ece0b55b570d5ea5673bbd However, lintian does not seem to want the adoption message on the changelog marking the orphan bug (this one) as closed: > Package closes bugs in a wrong way: Bug #1014046 is a O bug Should I just remove the bug number in that changelog entry? Bug#1029319: arp-scan: should be built with libcap support
Hi Sven, Thanks for your report! arp-scan is an admin command. It is installed (by default) in /usr/sbin/, this directory is not in the $PATH of a normal user. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea for a non-privileged user to execute administrator commands, although it's a matter of preference. In my opinion, this is fine this way and this bug should be closed. Bug#1022844: man subsection directories are needed for mandoc(1)
Hello Alejandro, Debian policy is clear on this point: manual pages should be assigned to man[1..9]/ dirs [1]. Lintian also issues error tags when this behavior is not observed [2]. The desired section expressed through the file extension and the .TH field is not modified. All .so links are corrected to point to the corresponding man page. >From dh_installman(1) manual page: " ...you tell dh_installman what man pages go in your packages, and it figures out where to install them based on the section field in their .TH or .Dt line. If you have a properly formatted .TH or .Dt line, your man page will be installed into the right directory, with the right name (this includes proper handling of pages with a subsection, like 3perl, which are placed in man3, and given an extension of .3perl). If your .TH or .Dt line is incorrect or missing, the program may guess wrong based on the file extension." What is the precise drawback of this solution? Greetings, Marcos [1] https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#manual-pages [2] https://lintian.debian.org/tags/odd-place-for-manual-page
Bug#1023217: manpages: Wrongly sorted man pages
Hello Helge, The presence of these *.2 and *.3 manpages in the manpages package instead of manpages-dev is to avoid sending broken links in the manpages-dev package. The source package even provides a script [1] to check for this problem and make corrections. There is also an example in the manpages-dev package: console_ioctl.4 is moved to the manpages-dev package because it points to ioctl_console.2. Unless a better solution is proposed, I think it's best to close this bug in a few days. Greetings, Marcos [1]https://sources.debian.org/src/manpages/6.02-1/debian/move_links_to_correct_package/

Bug#1012935: gf-complete: ftbfs with GCC-12
Control: tags 1012935 confirmed Hi there! This week I've been working on this bug and I've come to some conclusions that might help in your solution. 1. I confirmed the existence of the bug This bug occurs during "dh_auto_test" when gcc-12 is used in the "gf-complete" compilation process. I used gcc-11 and verified that "dh_auto_test" ran without errors. Switching to gcc-12 had the same problem reported here. 2. I compiled the package "qemu-user-static" with gcc-12 After compiling, the problem persisted. 3. I compiled "qemu" using your latest version of git with gcc-12 Using the development version of qemu also did not solve the problem. 4. I compiled each file that forms the library "libgf_complete.so.1.0.0" separately I created a script and used the gcc-11 compiler as default and performed the compilation of each .c file in the "./src" directory. After that I tested with the following command the existence of runtime errors: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/tests/gf-complete/src/.libs qemu-x86_64-static \ -cpu qemu64,-sse3,-ssse3,-sse4.1,-sse4.2 ./test/.libs/gf_unit 64 A -1 - Having no errors in the execution, I changed the compiler of each file to gcc-12, until I found the files that had problems when gcc-12 was used. Finished the process, I located the following files: gf.c, gf_w64.c, and gf_rand.c. 5. I checked the difference between the objects generated by gcc-11 and gcc-12 Before checking the difference, I had already read the documents [1], [2], and [3], and I had not found anything to justify the problem that was happening. [1] https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-12/porting_to.html [2] https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-12/changes.html [3] https://salsa.debian.org/toolchain-team/gcc/-/blob/master/debian/NEWS.gcc Rereading the qemu error message: "Illegal instruction", I decided to check if there were any significant differences between the instructions generated by the gcc-11 and gcc-12 compilers. To do this I used the "elfx86exts" software. Taking object "libgf_complete_la-gf.o" as an example: # wget https://github.com/pkgw/elfx86exts/archive/refs/tags/elfx86e...@0.5.0.tar.gz # tar xvf elfx86exts\@0.5.0.tar.gz # cd elfx86exts-elfx86exts-0.5.0 # cargo build # cargo run -- /tmp/gcc-11/libgf_complete_la-gf.o Finished dev [unoptimized + debuginfo] target(s) in 0.02s Running `target/debug/elfx86exts /tmp/gcc-11/libgf_complete_la-gf.o` MODE64 (push) CMOV (cmovns) SSE2 (movdqu) SSE1 (movups) CPU Generation: Intel Core # cargo run -- /tmp/gcc-12/libgf_complete_la-gf.o Finished dev [unoptimized + debuginfo] target(s) in 0.02s Running `target/debug/elfx86exts /tmp/gcc-12/libgf_complete_la-gf.o` MODE64 (push) CMOV (cmovns) SSE2 (movd) SSE41 (pminsd) SSE1 (movups) CPU Generation: Penryn Comparing the instructions presented above, generated by the gcc-11 and gcc-12 compilers, it can be seen that gcc-12 generated instructions that gcc-11 does not. That's why qemu gives the error of "Illegal instruction" when using gcc-12 with the options "-cpu qemu64,-sse3,-ssse3,-sse4.1,-sse4.2". Best Regards, mt signature.asc Description: PGP signature
