Bug#1027123: ITP: php-xhprof -- XHProf is a function-level hierarchical profiler for PHP

2022-12-27 Thread Mark A. Hershberger

Just found the php-xhprof repo[1] after starting to read the the
packaging instructions[2] but, since I want this for php7.4 (at least
for now), I think this is still relevent-ish.

I updated to this kernel and sound stopped working. Gnome shows the
output device (when it is working) as “Speaker - Tiger Lake-LP Smart

I found a conversation about a similar bug here:

Bug#1005832: more info

2022-06-25 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
Found this bug because this is the only hit I found on search engines for the
error I was seeing. I have a Debian system.

The problem is apparently because /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions is (in
my case) a 0-byte file and installing an extension resolves the issue.

I was also able to resolve it by erasing the file and creating the directory.

Example:

mah@gabriel:~$ libreoffice
Warning: failed to launch javaldx - java may not function correctly
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::deployment::DeploymentException'
Unspecified Application Error
mah@gabriel:~$ libreoffice --version

Initial boot: Default GUI install option wasn't visible. Once I used the down

able to use the up arrow to return to it.

Partition hard drives: I wanted to try Timeshift's BTRFS snapshots, but I
couldn't find an easy way to select BTRFS instead of EXTFS for all partitions.

Bug#983181: xscreensaver-data-extra: newline in .desktop file

2021-02-20 Thread Mark A. Hershberger

Running apt upgrade and saw this:

line ?several times a second. After a while, finds a new image to corrupt.
Written by Jamie Zawinski; 2018.? which is not a key-value pair, group, or

The problematic lines seems to these:

Comment=Loads an image, corrupts it, and then displays the corrupted
version,
several times a second. After a while, finds a new image to corrupt.

Bug#953802: linux-image-5.4.0-0.bpo.3-amd64: multiple "i915 * Resetting rcs0 for hang on rcs0" in dmesg before or just after system freezes

2020-03-13 Thread Mark A. Hershberger

Looks similar to other reports against 5.4 found on the 'net:

Other people seem to find this resolved by upgrading to 5.5, so I'm about to
try that with the Debian-packaged 5.5.0-rc5-amd64 kernel.

Bug#931856: linux-image-5.0.0-trunk-amd64: Display-port connected screens show excessive flickering

2019-07-11 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
Package: src:linux
Version: 5.0.2-1~exp1
Severity: important

Screen flickers even before I've entered the password to decrypt the disk.

Bug#728347: [MediaWiki-distributors] On packaging Mediawiki 1.23 for Debian jessie

2014-10-06 Thread Mark A. Hershberger

This means that, once I prepare new packages (starting in
experimental, I think), I will need volunteer testing and feedback,
from admins as well as actual users. We are on a very tight timeframe,
and I wish to have this all finished within the next 28 days, starting
 Monday.

I'm willing to help test if it will help get MW 1.23 into Jessie.

Failure to do so will mean shipping Mediawiki 1.19 in jessie, which is
currently upstream’s oldstable and fading LTS. Mediawiki 1.23 is
upstream’s current LTS; we have an agreement from upstream to support
1.19 for the lifetime of wheezy, and I guess they’d be willing to
extend the same for 1.23 and jessie, but I’d not want to ask them to
 do that for 1.19.

Right. I wouldn't like to be stuck supporting 1.19 in Jessie. I don't
think that is something we can agree to.

The delivery of the security updates from upstream to Debian (both
stable and unstable) has been good so far, [...] so it’s been
 productive.

I'm glad to hear this.

If anyone’s got a rough overview of what changed between
1.19 and 1.23 for/from a packager’s PoV, thank you for pointing it out
 to me.

I'll try to put together a list this week.

I’m not formally the maintainer of src:mediawiki [but] I’m willing to
step forward and do my share of the work.

Thank you!

Bug#728347: [Pkg-mediawiki-devel] Bug#728347: Bug#728347: Bug#728347: News about new upstream version of mediawiki

2013-12-27 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
On 12/27/2013 03:31 AM, Thorsten Glaser wrote:
But I wish there were some way we could change this problem
upstream, i.e. make them see supporting a real DB (someone even
 suggested Horracle!) important.

The problem is addressed upstream by having people who are interested
in their DB of choice support it themselves. As a member of the release
management team for MW, I can tell you that we are looking for ways to
make sure non-MySQL DB support doesn't break.

Right now, though, MySQL has paid staff supporting it and other
databases (Oracle, Pg) have volunteers. This means you're at the mercy
of the volunteer's time and interest.

If there is real interest in making sure Pg is supported, then hopefully
the people who are interested in Pg would at least aid in ongoing
testing of their DB of choice to make sure it doesn't break and writing
bug reports when it does. This means testing HEAD against Pg
regularly. It is likely that we could provide you with a test machine
on wmflabs that Jenkins could trigger to run the built-in tests against Pg.

This sort of testing would be invaluable.

Bug#717295: gscan2pdf: adf option on HP 4620 *almost* works

2013-07-18 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
Package: gscan2pdf
Version: 1.0.4-5
Severity: normal

Awesome program, but the ADF for the HP OfficeJet 4620 *almost*
works. The scanner pulls in the sheets and stops when it is done.
From stracing it, I can see that it stores the input in its TMP
directory — 4 PNM files, one for each page.

But then it doesn't show the scans in the GUI.

I was able to get it to work by using the scanner as a regular flatbed
scanner, but, man, that ADF feature would be sweet!

Bug#714338: gnome-shell binary depends on libpulse0 version in unstable

Actually, I believe the issue is only appearing at all _because you
 have libpulse0 from unstable installed_.

If I uninstall it and install the version from stable, gnome-shell
doesn't start and ldd shows the dependency un-fullfilled.

But yes, it might be a library gnome-shell depends on. I'll check that.

On 2013-06-28 15:45, Mark A. Hershberger wrote:

It was libpulse-mainloop-glib0. The 4.0 version of this package has a
dependency: libpulse0 (= 0.99.1). Interestingly, the 2.0 version of
the package has a correct dependency: libpulse0 (= 2.0-6.1)

I'm about to restart and verify that it works now. But if so, this bug
can be closed.

Also, readelf -d BINARY was invaluable for pinpointing the problem.

Bug#702079: php5-sybase: mssql connector doesn't work with Azure SQL

2013-03-02 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
Package: php5-sybase
Version: 5.5.0~alpha5-1
Severity: important

The SQL database available on Azure apparently does not have the same
connection semantics as SQL Server. “use DATABASE” is not possible — it
returns an error saying that you should open a new connection if you
want a new database.

This is confusing when you are using the DBLIB connector because it is
the DBLIB connection code that does the “use”, not the developer's PHP
code.

The FreeTDS people recognized this a while back:

About a year ago we added the DBSETLDBNAME macro as a way to set the
dbname in the db-lib LOGINREC. That sets the dbname in the login
packet, obviating the need for USE dbname.

http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/freetds/2012q4/028168.html

The attached patch makes use of DBSETLDBNAME and eliminates the USE.

Severity: normal

0. ulimit -C 1
1. Start by executing “lowrite” at the command line
2. Click “File”

Package: banshee

I noticed the Migo errors in my .xsessions-errors log and found, from a

I do have an initial pass at packaging this. It simply handles
installation -- not upgrading. I haven't touched it in a couple of
weeks, but was planning to get back to work on it in the next few days.

I would love to get some testers for the package. Are you volunteering?

 (see #638705).

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of that. I did wonder why it wasn't
being packaged.

It looks like the main thing to be addressed is finding a co-maintainer.

Bug#570709: Taking over?

I'm working on this package for the Wikimedia Foundation but want to
give the ownership of it to Debian's PHP Maintainers (emailing them
shortly). I should have packages ready to use later today.

I've also filed bugs to request that the curl package and libevent
package to include the patches necessary to compile HipHop.

Michal: advise? Can we move forward or should I see if the file in
question can be removed or replaced?

I had given this package to Michal Čihař ni...@debian.org to sponsor
and he found a file licensed under the PHP license.

I tried contacting the copyright owner on that file, but heard nothing
back.

I'm going to check upstream again, but I don't think anything has
changed.

I'd like to submit the package as-is and see if it is accepted. If the
file causes a problem, I guess the next step is to see if the file can
be replaced or removed.

Package: bzr-builddeb

This looks similar to #440069, but since that one is closed, (and now

When an upstream tarball contains a subdirectory, any merge-build will

Bug#377348: Is the XDebug License Ok?

2008-01-29 Thread Mark A. Hershberger

I have a package for php-xdebug (Bug #37734) and just wanted to verify
that the license is ok. http://xdebug.org/license.php

It looks like a variant of the PHP license with XDebug specifically
mentioned in the place of PHP. From my understanding of the problems of
applying the PHP license to packages that aren't included in PHP is that
the license is written such that it only covers things included with
PHP.

I realize I should ask this on debian-legal, but wanted to check here.

Also, I wanted to make sure I understood the process for adding a new
package to the subversion repository: I should be able to just create
the appropriate subdirectory, right?

Bug#443635: svn-buildpackage: calling tput w/o TERM causes errors

2007-09-25 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
It is easy to reproduce: 'unset TERM' from the command line and then run
svn-buildpackage in such a way that errors or warnings are produced.

tput will complain that TERM is not defined, making it difficult to read the
messages that it is supposed to be bolding.

Upon further reflection (and perusal of the tput manpage), I'd suggest testing
the existance of tput (since svn-buildpackage doesn't depend on ncurses-bin)
and then the existance of TERM (since tput won't work without it) and then
capturing the value of tput smso and tput rmso (as suggested by the tput
manpage) to the $bold and $unbold variables respectively.

I use eshell (emacs lisp shell) sometimes and it doesn't set TERM. I can
provide patches to fix this if I didn't already.

Bug#440069: bzr-builddeb: can't do merge packages with dh-make-pear

2007-08-29 Thread Mark A. Hershberger
Package: bzr-builddeb
Version: 0.19
Severity: important

I would like to do a merge package with the results of dh-make-pear,
but this seems impossible. The reason appears to be the package.xml
file in the .orig.tgz from the PEAR archive are not in a
sub-directory.

Here is the layout of the file tgz:

 $ tar tzf ../tarballs/php-mdb2_2.4.1.orig.tar.gz
 package.xml
 MDB2-2.4.1/docs/examples/example.php
 MDB2-2.4.1/docs/examples/example_php5.php
 MDB2-2.4.1/docs/examples/metapear_test_db.schema
 . . .

Here's what happens:

 $ bzr bd
 Running in merge mode
Building branch from revision [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Preparing the build area: ../build-area
Exporting to ../build-area/php-mdb2-2.4.1 in merge mode
Looking for ../tarballs/php-mdb2_2.4.1.orig.tar.gz to use as upstream source
bzr: ERROR: [Errno 17] File exists: '../build-area/php-mdb2-2.4.1'
 $ ls ../build-area/php-mdb2-2.4.1/
 package.xml
 $ ls ../build-area/
 builddeb-c_P_cV php-mdb2-2.4.1
 $ ls ../build-area/builddeb-c_P_cV/
 MDB2-2.4.1

Willing to reproduce using Debian Unstable if that would help. (I
just don't have that available ATM.)

It is quite likely that it is not a bug at all -- /dev/urandom is *not* a

Thus, you've created a security problem (denial of service) by making
policy decisions that should be left for the site to make (e.g. what
quality of randomness do we need from apr?)
