Oh, you are right, I forgot to check if the changes cure my problem. And indeed
they do!
:) I have just removed the mem-parameter from my grub-configuration, et voila,
it works!
Thank you very much for your efforts!

I am currently running kernel version 2.6.35 and everything works fine without
the memory
limitation set by the kernel parameter. So the remedy for my issues are on the
path to
2.6.35. How can I narrow down the patches curing this problem?

Bug#592290: [linux-source-2.6.32] X.org does not work with Intel driver and 4GB RAM

2010-08-08 Thread Matthias Breier
Package: linux-source-2.6.32
Version: 2.6.32-18
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hello everyone,

I've just realized that I still use the kernel parameter "mem=3500M" at boot
time. With
this configuration everything works fine (besides the missing 500MB of RAM).
When I remove
this parameter X.org fails to work properly. I have only a very distorted
log-in screen
and cannot switch to any other console via ctrl+alt+F1. Since Bug #558237 was
reported as
resolved I hoped that this would resolve my issues as well, but it does not.
I'm not sure how to proceed in my case. How can I test if the changes mentioned
in the
upstream bug report ( http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25510 ) have
reached the
Squeeze's current kernel version?

Best regards,

Matthias

Bug#523953: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Trying kernel 2.6.29 + UXA

2009-06-03 Thread Matthias Breier
Hi Brice,

> Any improvement with intel 2.7.1 or 2.7.99.1-2 from experimental?
> You might want to use a recent kernel such as 2.6.30-rc8.

Currently everything works rather well with xserver-xorg-video-intel (2.7.1-1)
and linux-image-2.6.29-2-amd64 (2.6.29-5). Videos are finally playable as
before in mplayer and xine.

The only drawback I currently experience is a problem with programs using
OpenGL interfaces like blender, in which the buttons are hoovering in a
fashion which renders the interface unusable. Luckily I'm not using it right
now. The problem is dealt with upstream (according to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/353763
) so that I'm sure it will be resolved in a future release.

And sometimes after long periods without any problems, the display fonts seem
to get distorted in a way which makes them unreadable. But I'm not completely
sure, if this is really related to the Intel driver. It's not reproducable and
disappears after a reboot.

I don't have the time to test the experimental packages at the moment, but I
will look into it as soon as possible.

Bug#523953: Backtraces

2009-04-13 Thread Matthias Breier
Hello again,

I've just generated three backtraces according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing from crashes caused by three similar
actions. Everytime I have been trying to play a video file. Whenever I have
tried to manipulate the playback of the video file or tried to access a
context menu of any of the aforementioned video players, Xorg crashes.

Hopefully the backtraces help hunting down this bug.

Bye
Matthias

Bug#523953: XServer crashes whenever playing video with xine, vlc and mplayer

2009-04-13 Thread Matthias Breier
Hello,

I suppose I can confirm this bug. Everytime I try to view a video with xine,
vlc or mplayer, the XServer crashes and restarts. I attached my xorg.conf and
the log file Xorg.0.log.old, which includes the error messages after the
crash.
I suppose it's related to the bug mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/358365
in Ubuntu.

I will try to get some debug output as soon as possible.

Bye

Bug#477795: Additional information and maybe workaround

2008-04-27 Thread Matthias Breier
I have just renamed ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete and suddenly I could open the
settings again. The problem seems to be related to an entry in this
directory. Since the configuration is stored in another directory you would
only loose your chat history (or rather complicate the access to it).

Maybe the severity of this bug could be adjusted to "normal", since the
solution is pretty straight forward and I suppose it is a rather uncommon
case.

Best regards

Matthias

Bug#477795: kopete: Segfault when opening the settings dialogue

2008-04-25 Thread Matthias Breier
Package: kopete
Version: 4:3.5.9-1
Severity: important

Everytime i try to open the settings of Kopete it crashes. Both possibilities -
open the settings via the main menu or the tray-icon menu - show the same
behaviour.
The last thing I did was adding a new Jabber account several weeks ago. Today I
wanted to add another one and experienced this crash.
Here is the backtrace:

Bug#452411: Same problem here

2007-11-25 Thread Matthias Breier

Hello Julien,

interestingly I have the same mouse and the same problem. But I created
especially to prevent these problems a persistent symlink at the event device
dealing with my mouse via udev. So my xorg.conf device section looks like the
following:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Logitech MX510"
Driver "evdev"
Option "SendCoreEvents""true"
Option "Device""/dev/input/event-mx510"
EndSection

Nevertheless, if I replug the mouse or even plug in a new device at an usb port
in the same row of my notebook (it has 4 jacks, probably connected internally to
two controllers), the mouse stops responding. Hereupon the following lines
appear in the xorg-log:

(EE) Read error: No such device (19, -1 != 16)
(II) Logitech MX510: Off
(II) Logitech MX510: Off
(II) UnloadModule: "evdev"

Perhaps the error is caused by some other components of the system, maybe HAL or
something similar. The system logs also do not contain any suspicious entries.

Maybe you have a clue where I can start looking for the cause(s) of this
problem?

Best regards

Matthias

Bug#448863: Verifying the uploaded package

2007-11-13 Thread Matthias Breier

Hi,

as Jörg mentioned in his mail
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2007/11/msg2.html), packets
uploaded in a short period around the occurence of the hardware problem might
still be missing in the repositories.
So, could you perhaps verify if your new xserver-xorg packet was uploaded
succesfully?

Bug#420757: After upgrading xserver does not start any longer - apparently problem with libdri

2007-04-24 Thread Matthias Breier
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-2
Severity: critical

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hello,

after upgrading to the new version the X server does not start anymore. In the
KDM logfile it says:

"/usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so:
undefined symbol: drmSetServerInfo".

The Xorg.0.log stops after the line "(II) Loading extension XFree86-DRI".

As requested in Bug #415582, here the output of "ldd
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libdri.so":

linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xe000)
libdrm.so.2 => /lib/libdrm.so.2 (0xb7f82000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/i686/cmov/libm.so.6 (0xb7f5c000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 (0xb7e19000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x8000)

Best regards

Matthias Breier
