Bug#546902: libcommons-launcher-java: 1.1-4 is now depending only on default-jdk, which requires my to install openjdk

2009-09-16 Thread Michael R Head
Package: libcommons-launcher-java
Version: 1.1-4
Severity: normal

I just dist-upgraded libcommons-launcher-java, and it forcibly pulled in
openjdk, which I don't wish to install. I was
quite happy having only the sun-java6 packages installed.

Bug#518117: Just upgraded to 4.0-20090308-1, seeing segfaults with hl1250 again

2009-03-11 Thread Michael R. Head
I just upgraded to 4.0-20090308-1, and I'm seeing the segfaults in
foomatic-rip:

I downgraded the foomatic-filters package to 4.0-20090301-3 and
everything is peachy again.

I have an HL-1440, and I am using the driver that I just downloaded from
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-HL-1440

The gutenprint drivers (which are used by default when I attach the
printer via USB) work well for printing pdf documents (printed directly
using lpr or evince), but somehow printing documents from openoffice
causes significant problems (it prints out at about 4x the appropriate
size).

Ah. Thanks.

Apparently, that had been sitting on my system since 2000. I can only
guess that it must have been pulled in by CPAN way back when...

I've done rm -rf on /usr/lib/perl5/Getopt and all is well now.

Bug#449173: Seeing this with a brother HL-1440

2008-02-17 Thread Michael R. Head
Wow... finally found the root of the problem I've been seeing for a few
days now.

Print jobs have been silently being queued on my print server, and
there's no useful information in cups as to why this is happening.

As far as I know, this is the only thing that has changed recently in
the cups toolchain, so I can only assume the gs-* -> ghostscript
transition is to blame (somehow).

With regard to the /usr/bin/gs disappearing, it seems to be due to the
fact that /usr/bin/gs used to be an alternative but is no longer one...
the alternatives system doesn't seem to reliably be made aware of this
change, so when one does "update-alternatives --auto gs", /usr/bin/gs is
blown away after the upgrade to the ghostscript package.

Bug#409864: A quick workaround for those hit by this bug...

2007-02-12 Thread Michael R. Head
Here's a quick workaround for anyone hit by this bug waiting for a fix:

$ sudo ln -s /etc/viewvc/templates /usr/lib

Ugly, but it'll solve the problem for a day or two.

Bug#395266: linux-image-2.6.18-1-k7: hostap driver no longer working since 2.6.16

I haven't been able to use the hostap_plx driver in kernels later than 2.6.16.
In 2.6.17-1-k7 and 2.6.18-1-k7 I have been getting this in my syslog:

installed in order to use my computer as an infrastructure/master mode access

Bug#322637: initrd-tools: Mea culpa. My /etc/fstab was broken

2005-08-25 Thread Michael R Head
Package: initrd-tools
Version: 0.1.82

for some reason, /dev/hde1 was in my /etc/fstab, so I take it that's why
mkinitrd was looking for it. I changed /dev/hde1 back to /dev/hda1 (as
it should have been) and mkinitrd works again, so I guess this bug is
closable.

Bug#322637: initrd-tools: Can't install linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 due to mkinitrd failure to find /dev/hde1

2005-08-11 Thread Michael R Head
Package: initrd-tools
Version: 0.1.81.1
Severity: important

During my sid upgrade today, I found I was unable to install the new
linux kernel [linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 (2.6.12-2)]. It turns out the
postinst is failing like so:

Please Hit return to continue.
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: device /dev/hde1 is not a block device
Failed to create initrd image.
dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 9
Errors were encountered while processing:
 linux-image-2.6.12-1-k7
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

/dev/hde and /dev/hdf on my system are disks being used by lvm and thus
have no partitions, so /dev/hde1 does not exist.

I can recreate the error by running the command that the postinst runs:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/sbin/mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.12-1-k7.new
/lib/modules/2.6.12-1-k7/
/usr/sbin/mkinitrd: device /dev/hde1 is not a block device

But I don't know how to resolve this.

For now, I'm pointing lilo at my previously installed kernel and hoping
if I have to reboot everything will be OK :-)

I just reinstalled, and it seems to be working now.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that I was using a cisco VPN over wireless... next time I'm on campus (which uses the cisco VPN to provide authenticated wireless access) I might give reinstallation a try.

Thanks for your patience, Mt.

Bug#295641: evolution: Emacs keybindings recently stopped working in the editor

2005-02-16 Thread Michael R Head
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.3-1.2
Severity: normal

In a recent update to evolution (can't say which one in the past week or
so, but I'm pretty sure I've been able to use Ctrl-A/E/F/P with 2.0.3
before), emacs keybindings stopped working in the composer. It's a
pretty key feature for me that I'm sorely missing. What happened?

(BTW: Yes, I do have the gconf key
/desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_key_theme set to 'Emacs', and the bindings
work fine in other gnome apps and widgets).

thanks,
mike

Heh. What a weird typo to make.

That makes sense.

Just updating this bug re: the January bugfix release. Is there any
reason the package can't be released? (I understand if Francois is busy,
and apologize for bothering him if so).

Bug#293348: dovecot-imapd: New inetd.conf check doesn't work for all configurations.

2005-02-02 Thread Michael R Head
Package: dovecot-imapd
Version: 0.99.13-4
Severity: important

The new inetd.conf check doesn't work on my sister. This causes dovecot to
simply not
start anymore on my system.

I run a pops server, but it's not dovecot, but my imaps server is dovecot. when
dovecot looks to see if I'm
running a pops server, it finds one, and decides not to start my dovecot imap
server.

I've just removed the new checks from my /etc/init.d/dovecot, and things are
working again, but I think the check
needs to be reworked just a little.

Perhaps it should only check inetd for the protocols that it finds in
dovecot.conf?

thanks,
mike

Actually, I was happy with Rene's idea of simply linking to the
openoffice readme.

I'd also be happy to write up a section in the README about how to
enable the native fileselector globally, for all users, but I just don't
know how to set those sort of options in /etc/openoffice.

Also, how is it possible for an administrator to configure this setting
system-wide for all users? Perhaps that can be mentioned in the README,
too.

Perhaps this could be mentioned in
/usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-gtk-gnome/README.Debian. That's the first
place I (and I think many/most people) go when a package doesn't seem to
be working as expected.
