Bug#978737: libreoffice-writer: LibreOffice Writer produces PDF with virus if there are links in the document

2020-12-30 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: libreoffice-writer
Version: 1:7.0.4~rc2-1+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

On my machine, LibreOffice Writer produces PDF with virus if there are links in
the document. That PDF file is blocked by Gmail, and is detected with
PDF/Downldr.F.gen!Camelot by Cyren on VirusTotal.

The .odt file which produces the .pdf file with virus are both attached.

Bug#956810: libmariadb3: does not support SSL by default

2020-04-15 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: libmariadb3
Version: 1:10.4.12-1~exp3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The library does not connect to my MySQL server using SSL which is set up as
REQUIRE SSL on my user account. I'm using gnucash with libdbd-mysql installed.

Steps to reproduce:
1. create a user account on MySQL with REQUIRE SSL and an associated database
2. install gnucash and libdbd-mysql on a Debian and an Ubuntu system
3. write a set of books into the database created in step 1 using the account
created.

Result:
The Debian machine fails to connect but the Ubuntu machine connects. If I
replace libdbd-mysql with the Ubuntu version which is built against libmysql20,
the Debian machine can connect like the Ubuntu machine.

There is a related ticket in the MySQL tracker:
https://dev.mysql.com/worklog/task/?id=7712

Dear Maintainer,

The date of Tuen Ng Festival in Hong Kong is wrong in korganizer. The calendar
shows 7 May 2019, however, according to the gov't website, it should be 7 June
2019.

The authoritative source can be found below.

Bug#903621: ibus-rime: cannot enter Chinese after switching from Russian

2018-07-11 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: ibus-rime
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

Dear Maintainer,

I have multiple input methods installed in my ibus, including English, Russian
and Swedish and rime. I've added rime input methods which input Chinese by
using Pinyin in Latin alphabet.

If I switch from English to rime, it behaves as expected. However, if I switch
from Russian to rime, when I press the keyboard, Russian characters appears
with no compose window from rime. Because the input method selected in rime
uses Latin alphabet, I expect Latin characters come out and compose Chinese.

I have found that multiple en-us packages after an install of default KDE

Please stop recommending localisation package in the desktop tasks, and create

Bug#823039: quassel-core: quassel should identify user first before joining channels

2016-04-30 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: quassel-core
Version: 1:0.10.0-2.3+deb8u2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Currently quassel tries to join the channels before the identification is done.
This makes it unable to automatically join channels which require
identification, forcing me to manually join them.

The below is the IRC backlog joining freenode:

[17:05:47] *** Mode miklcct +i by miklcct

nickname, or identify via /msg NickServ identify .
[17:05:47] [NickServ] You have 30 seconds to identify to your nickname before
it is changed.

[17:05:55] * ##php: Cannot join channel (+r) - you need to be identified with

[17:05:59] * #android-dev: Cannot join channel (+r) - you need to be identified

[17:05:59] [NickServ] You are now identified for miklcct.

You can see that there are many "cannot join channel" messages due to not
identified, but the identification is done afterwards.

Please change the order of identification

Bug#779105: tayga: add CLAT (464XLAT) support

2015-02-24 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: tayga
Version: 0.9.2-4
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream ipv6

Dear Maintainer,

It would be nice to add CLAT support into tayga. Currently, it is mainly used
for IPv6-only internal network to reach the IPv4 Internet. As ISPs begin to
deliver IPv6-only mobile Internet, it is possible that user may want running
IPv4-only apps on a Debian-powered mobile device connected to such a network.

I have tried manually installing tayga on a client with only IPv6 Internet
connectivity in a test environment, where the service provider has offered
NAT64 at their gateway. The client is assigned a /64 which is routed from the
service provider. Let me use the following as an example:

Routed /56 (e.g. obtained from DHCPv6-PD): 2001:db8:0:ff00::/56
PLAT-NAT64: 2001:db8::::/96

I then installed tayga on my client device, configured the IPv6 prefix to
2001:db8::::/96, and no IPv4 prefix (because the IPv6 Internet cannot
reach the IPv4-only private network behind the client). The addresses of tayga
is set to 2001:db8:0:ff00::1, which is within the routed /56, and 172.16.0.1,
which is a private IPv4 address. As I want the mapped IPv6 packet to go to the
Internet (which in turn go through the PLAT), I commented out the default routes
in /etc/init.d/tayga , and modified the configuration further later on.

Because the client machine has no IPv4 addresses, I set the address of the nat64
interface to 172.16.0.2/30 and a default gateway to 172.16.0.1 after starting
the daemon, by modifying the routes in /etc/init.d/tayga . This way, all
outgoing IPv4 packets from the client will originate from 172.16.0.2 and pass
through 172.16.0.1, at that point translated to IPv6 packets targeting
2001:db8::::/96.

However, in order to receive the return packet by the IPv4 application, I had to
assign an additional IPv6 address to represent the IPv4 of the client, which was
2001:db8:0:ff00::2, also within the routed /56. It is NOT the IPv6 address of an
interface, instead, it is routed into the nat64 interface. A static mapping of
2001:db8:0:ff00::2 - 172.16.0.2 was created in /etc/tayga.conf, which allowed
the packet to return to 172.16.0.2 .

I was able to traceroute to the IPv4 Internet after configuring the above, of
course using real addresses instead of the above documentary addresses. However,
manually doing so was tedious and error-prone. It will also be cumbersome when
there is a lot of nodes in the private IPv4 subnet, as the above configuration
only works for a single IPv4 host. Therefore, I suggest adding an option to set
tayga into CLAT mode instead of PLAT mode. The details are follow:

New option clat-prefix (optional)
When set, tayga will work in CLAT instead of PLAT mode. When translating an IPv4
packet to an IPv6 packet, if the address is in the clat-ipv4-prefix, it will be
translated into clat-prefix, otherwise, it will be translated into prefix as
usual. In this case, prefix should be set to the provider NAT64 subnet, and
clat-prefix should be set to a /96 routed to the client. Also, the ipv6-addr
option, if not set, will be calculated using the clat-prefix instead of prefix.

New option clat-ipv4-prefix (optional)
It is meaningful only when clat-prefix is set. The addresses within this option
are assigned to IPv4-only hosts behind the client. Those addresses enable IPv4
connectivity over IPv6 network by 464XLAT. Addresses in clat-ipv4-prefix will be
translated using clat-prefix instead of prefix. If clat-prefix is set but
clat-ipv4-prefix is not set, no IPv4 addresses will be translated to clat-prefix
except static mappings, but IPv6 addresses within clat-prefix will still be
translated to IPv4 prefix. IPv6 addresses in either prefix or clat-prefix will
be directly translated to IPv4 over tayga, other IPv6 addresses will be
translated using the dynamic-pool as usual. The dynamic-pool must not overlap
with clat-ipv4-prefix, otherwise we don't know how to translate such addresses.

To summarise the translation method,
IPv4 - IPv6
if in map, translate using it
if in dynamic-pool, translate using it, reject the package if not found
if in clat-ipv4-prefix, translate using clat-prefix
otherwise, translate using prefix

IPv6 - IPv4
if in map, translate using it
if in prefix or clat-prefix, translate using it
otherwise, generate an IPv4 address in the dynamic pool.

For example, the above configuration, under the above proposed configuration,
will be configured as follows:

ipv4-addr 172.16.0.1
prefix 2001:db8::::/96
clat-prefix 2001:db8:0:ff00::/96
clat-ipv4-prefix 172.16.0.0/30

and create a dummy interface dummy0 with IPv4 address set to 172.16.0.2 . If
there is a physical IPv4 local network behind the client, this step is omitted
because the machine has already a working IPv4 address, and clat-ipv4-prefix is
adjusted to hold all of the local network.

That's all we should need. If we want the IPv6 Internet to access the IPv4
subnet behind the client, we may add a dynamic-pool, which must

Bug#698343: owncloud: sends wrong content-type

2013-06-26 Thread Michael Tsang
Dear David,

I always set the content-type explicitly in all my PHP scripts since my
website is written with a variety of codes including HTML, XHTML, plain text,
etc. For debugging purposes, my server is set to send text/plain as default,
and all others including phpmyadmin and wordpress works painlessly. The bug
means the script fails to set the appropriate content-type. The server
administrator should not need to know what content-type is needed for
owncloud. The only expected thing is that it work in a modern browser, no
matter it is HTML, XHTML, or some other XYZ markup.

As my server has now become stable, I am not going to install anything from
experimental on it. If I have spare time, I may set up a virtual machine to
test it.

Regards,
Michael

 can you reproduce this issue with ownCloud 5 available in experimental?

In my opinion, this bug makes this package unusable by most wheezy users,
because suite matching will cause the system to silently break at the point
when jessie is released.

Bug#709867: libc6: sometimes cannot resolve hostname

2013-05-26 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: libc6
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I'm suffering from exactly this issue in a forum post:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10t=91558
It says:

There is something wrong with networking in Wheezy but I can't identify it. I
first experienced a problem shortly after updating a mixed Squeeze/Wheezy box
almost one year ago. Suddenly Kmail refused to connect to my email service
provider claiming the host could not be found. I could ping the host, but Kmail
insisted it didn't see it. I submitted a bug report which as far as I know has
never been addressed. The problem remains. And it's not just Kmail.

Sometime after an update of Iceweasel, Iceweasel began having issues DNS
issues. Sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't, though it seems to be the same
sites that repeatedly miss (mostly news sites, and my email provider). Oddly
enough, installing Tor solved the problem. Then Tor broke and I had to remove
it. I was desperate so I tried using Konqueror. Same problem (among others).

So I did what any experienced Windows user would, I wiped the HD and
reinstalled a fresh copy of Wheezy. I still have the same problem. Neither
Konqueror nor Iceweasel will connect to certain sites, though they connect to
others (it's about 50/50). Unknown host and Server not found respectively.
I tried Kmail again after nearly a year to see if it had been fixed. Same
problem. I finally decided to try out Chromium. Guess what? Chromium has no
issues whatsoever. Been using it for several months now painlessly.

I am, and have been, using KDE exclusively. I have no proxy selected under
network settings. /etc/resolve.conf is automagically configured to my ISPs
router address 192.168.1.1. I have tried networking using both Network Manager
and the traditional /etc/network/interfaces methods. I'm using the latter now
as I seem to have fewer issues with it. Network Manager is installed but
disabled. (I did purge it once while trying to solve this problem without any
effect).

Then he is told to disable IPv6, however, my machine is running inside an IPv6
network so I can do NOTHING! I NEED IPV6 FOR NETWORK CONNECTIVITY!

More details about my machine:
Debian wheezy, KDE desktop, bind9 installed locally.

/etc/resolv.conf:

domain miklcct.csproject.org
search miklcct.csproject.org
nameserver ::1
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 2001:470:20::2
nameserver 74.82.42.42

There is no network-manager. Absolutely not. local bind9 is configured to serve
dns64 in my local network. My machine is a gateway. This issue occurs
everywhere including kmail, konqueror, iceweasel, or even aptitude! but not
chromium, so I believe this is a library problem. And please don't ever tell me
to upgrade my system to testing/unstable. I NEED A ROCK SOLID SYSTEM WHICH DOES
NOT BREAK FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS. I am happy to issue workarounds on my system.

Regards,
Michael

Dear Maintainer,

The declarer is set wrong in this hand record, but the bidding history is
correct.

The contract should be 1C by North, rather than by South.

Bug#699593: login: wrong egid

2013-02-03 Thread Michael Tsang
In my scenario, if I change “bash” to “dash”, it clearly shows egid is not
the same as gid.

1 Install Debian GNU/kFreeBSD
2 Configure LDAP
3 Add an LDAP user with primary group in LDAP to a local group
4 Change the shell of that user to “dash”
5 Log in the that user

Now, the egid is not the primary group in LDAP, but is the local group.

Bug#699593: login: wrong egid

2013-02-02 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: login
Version: 1:4.1.5.1-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Dear Maintainer,

Debian GNU/kFreeBSD logs me with a wrong egid. I did the following steps:

1. Install a new copy of Debian GNU/kFreeBSD
2. Configure the system to use LDAP authentication
3. Add an LDAP user to a local group (e.g. sudo)
4. Log into that user

Then, I found that bash does not read the configuration files since gid and
egid are different. This is wrong. The egid should be the same as the primary
gid when logging in. Refer to #698102 for more details.

Regards,
Michael

2013-01-23 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: vim
Version: 2:7.3.547-6
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I want to use vim to edit a write-only file by supplying the name in the
command. Of course, it says permission denied when opening it (because it
cannot be read!), but, however, it says the file is READ-ONLY and sets the
readonly flag! After editing the file, as vim thinks it's read only, I have to
either turn the flag off or use w! to write the file, and it is successful.

uid=0(root) gid=1000(michael) groups=0(root),1000(michael)
uid=1000(michael) gid=1000(michael) groups=1000(michael)

As you can see at the above, the call to initgroups modifies the egid. This
behaviour is not documented in the man page. When combined with the following
code snipped from package shadow in libmisc/setugid.c:

int setup_groups (const struct passwd *info)
{
/*
 * Set the real group ID to the primary group ID in the password
 * file.
 */
if (setgid (info-pw_gid) == -1) {
int err = errno;
perror (setgid);
SYSLOG ((LOG_ERR, bad group ID `%d' for user `%s': %s\n,
 info-pw_gid, info-pw_name, strerror (err)));
closelog ();
return -1;
}
#ifdef HAVE_INITGROUPS
/*
 * For systems which support multiple concurrent groups, go get
 * the group set from the /etc/group file.
 */
if (initgroups (info-pw_name, info-pw_gid) == -1) {
int err = errno;
perror (initgroups);
SYSLOG ((LOG_ERR, initgroups failed for user `%s': %s\n,
 info-pw_name, strerror (err)));
closelog ();
return -1;
}
#endif
return 0;
}

this behaviour would cause me to be logged in with egid != gid, which makes
bash thinks that it is run setgid and gives unintended behaviour. Also, it has
a potential security hole to the whole system by setting the egid wrongly. I
found this bug in a Debian GNU

As seen above, the setgroups system call in kFreeBSD behaves differently than
in Linux, which causes the bug.

Bug#696381: korganizer does not allow me to choose between subcalendars in akonadi-resource

2012-12-19 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: korganizer
Version: 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-3+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I have the personal calendar and a Google resource in the akonadi-resource.
However, when I create new items, korganizer does not allow me to choose which
one I want it to save in, nor does it allow me to move items between the sub-
calendars. However, with separate calendars (i.e. akonadi and traditional
resource), it allows me to move items between and choose which calendar to save
to. I have already chosen to ask the location in the save settings.

Bug#695500: debian-installer-7.0-netboot-kfreebsd-amd64: does not boot from pxe

2012-12-09 Thread Michael Tsang

Bug#695025: libreoffice crashes when saving a new document with ctrl-s

2012-12-03 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:3.5.4+dfsg-4
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Dear Maintainer,

I have found Libreoffice consistently crashing on my machine, with makes all
the new documents lost. My system is a fully updated wheezy system, with KDE
desktop. After I create a new document, under both Writer and Impress, if I try
to use the keys Ctrl-S to save it, it immediately crashes after popping up the
file saving dialogue every time. However, it does not crash by clicking the
save button using a mouse.

 Aha, KDE. Do you use libreoffice-kde / the KDE dialogs? What happens
 if you use the LibreOffice dialogs? I bet that it's just a bug
 with the KDE dialogs.

 If if that is the case: do you use any special theeme (i.e. not oxygen)?
 -kde is known to crash with (some of) them. (And no, I will not care, get
 some KDE people to care if you want that fixed.)

 Oh, and did you see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=620422?
 Do you happen to use ibus or something? In which case it would be a
 duplicate of that bug.

 Of course, that doesn't include *any* dialog.

 OK. Did you try to use the LO dialogs instead of the KDE ones?
 (see Tools-Options-General)?

 I didn't ask this just for fun, please answer. Because here (though under
 GNOME, need to install/check with KDE later at home) it works.

 You mean that with the same document, the KDE open/save dialog opens
 but when doing that with ctrl-s it crashes? Interesting, it must be
 done differnet in the ctrl-s case...

Bug#681071: fcitx-table: auto send candidate word is flawed

2012-07-10 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: fcitx-table
Version: 1:4.2.4.1-2
Severity: important

The option auto send candidate word can sometimes make a table unusable if
exact match is also specified. For example, there are no matches with l,
some matches with lo, no matches with loe, and some matches with loen,
typing l, o, e in order will send the first candidate word of lo, thus I can
never type words matching loen

Then the firewall messages flood my /var/log/syslog and /dev/tty12 because I
rely on the rules to filter the thing out! I log every connection in or out my

2012-04-11 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: kde-runtime

Severity: normal
File: kdesu

When I use kdesu, it will generate emails like this:

This kind of email is generated by sudo when incorrect password is entered.
However, I didn't enter any incorrect password into kdesu.

2012-04-10 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: ibus-table-jyutping
Version: 1.3.4-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

I installed the package and try to type something. I typed the input string
dei and only 1 character appears in the selection box. I checked the source
code and found that there are 3 characters coded dei. This makes the input
method unusable.

Bug#654396: tayga: packet misrouted into the Internet

2012-01-03 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: tayga
Version: 0.9.2-3
Severity: important
Tags: ipv6

I tried to access an IPv4-only host (ap.miklcct.csproject.org) in my intranet.
As DNS64 is set up, it returns a mapped IPv6 address as usual. My mapped IP
blocks are 192.168.0.0/24 and 2001:470:19:a87::/96. My tayga address is
192.168.0.1. Moreover, masquerading is set on my Internet interface eth2. I can
access the host by typing its IPv4 literal, but not via its host name or IPv6
literal.

Here are my traceroute results:
michael@server:~$ traceroute -4 ap.miklcct.csproject.org
traceroute to ap.miklcct.csproject.org (192.168.1.1), 30 hops max, 60 byte
packets
 1  ap.miklcct.csproject.org (192.168.1.1)  0.386 ms  0.472 ms  0.597 ms
michael@server:~$ traceroute -6 ap.miklcct.csproject.org
traceroute to ap.miklcct.csproject.org (2001:470:19:a87::c0a8:101), 30 hops
max, 80 byte packets
 1  2001:470:19:a87::c0a8:1 (2001:470:19:a87::c0a8:1)  0.107 ms  0.017 ms

 4  * * *
 5  * * *
 6  * * *
 7  * * *
 8  *^C

As you can see, the packet leaked to the Internet on hop 2.

Here are my routing tables:
michael@server:~$ ip route show
default via 119.247.182.1 dev eth2
10.109.241.0/24 via 10.109.241.2 dev tun0

172.16.0.0/16 via 192.168.1.4 dev eth0
192.168.0.0/24 dev nat64  scope link
192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.2
michael@server:~$ ip -6 route show

fe80::/64 dev eth1  proto kernel  metric 256
default via 2001:470:18:a87::1 dev he-ipv6  metric 1024

eth0 and eth1 are my intranet interfaces, eth2 is my Internet interface, he-
ipv6 is my IPv6 tunnel, tun0 is my OpenVPN tunnel, nat64 is my NAT64 tunnel.

Moreover, tracerouting to other mapped private IPv4 addresses (such as
2001:470:19:a87::172.16.0.1) gets similar results.

I believe that this issue is not related to the source address, so feel free to
use ap.miklcct.csproject.org for testing from an IPv6 capable host. Note that
my network is firewalled so that you can only ping or traceroute into it.

To reproduce this on your own network, do the following:
1. Install tayga on your NAT44 gateway
2. Pick an unused /96 in your site for tayga (do not use the Well-Known Prefix)
3. traceroute6 to a mapped private IPv4 address, but not the server's own
address.

Bug#619239: libreoffice-kde: libreoffice doesn't accept any input under KDE4 with scim

2011-03-22 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: libreoffice-kde
Version: 1:3.3.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When libreoffice is used under KDE4 with SCIM, it does not accept any input
from keyboard anymore including the enter key, the alt key, the backspace key,
etc making me impossible to type in anything. This is exactly #665112 in
openSUSE https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=665112 The temporary
workaround is forcing OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=none (or something not kde4)

Ways to reproduce:

install libreoffice-kde and run libreoffice under KDE4, open a document and try
to do something with it.

Bug#618763: scim breaks compose key

2011-03-18 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: scim
Version: 1.4.9-6

Without scim on, I can type characters like é, ú by using the compose key.
After starting scim, I cannot do this in most applications except GTK apps.
This is an important issue as it makes pretty difficult for users who need to
type French and Chinese at the same time

2010-06-12 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: kate
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

1 open a text/plain document in Konqueror
2 highlight some text in the embedded katepart
3 click on another tab
4 click on the tab with embedded katepart again

expected result: the text is still highlighted
actual result: the text is deleted without prior notice, resulting in
data loss

Bug#584852: scim-bridge sets wrong $QT_IM_MODULE

2010-06-07 Thread Michael Tsang
Package: scim-bridge
Severity: normal

The file /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim-bridge on line 13 detects the QT3
version of im-scim-bridge.so only in order to set $QT_IM_MODULE. If the
system is QT4-only, it sets $QT_IM_MODULE to xim instead of scim-bridge.
This affect the usability of scim-bridge.

Package: gdebi-kde
Version: 0.6.0
Severity: important

When gdebi-kde tries to install a package, it calls kdesudo even when
the current a/c does not have sudo privileges. I expect it calls kdesu
instead to gain root privileges.

Bug#538822: (no subject)

2010-06-03 Thread Michael Tsang
Is it possible to move /bin/sh to the Debian alternatives system to
permanently solve this bug?

Make anything which requires POSIX shell to depend on a new virtual package
called posix-shell and provide this virtual package by bash, dash, ksh, etc.
Then every shell uses the update-alternatives perl script to manage /bin/sh

Upgrade path:
When every shell is ready for the alternatives system, check if /bin/sh is
managed by alternatives. If not, remove it and install the link again.
