Bug#792854: [pkg-dhcp-devel] Bug#792854: Bug#792854: Also appears in 64-bit: fixed by removing empty /etc/hostname

Remember you specifically > state that your /etc/hostname contains "localhost". No, I did not ignore it. I gave it a try, but to no avail. Just read my comment above. Removing /etc/hostname works on a 64-bit architecture, but not on 32-bit (third time's the charm). I'm basically a Slackware user, and I gave Debian a spin out of curiosity. Reporting a bug with Slackware is as easy as posting a message in the LinuxQuestions forum, and a couple days later, the distro maintainer fixes it, with a curt Thank You note in the ChangeLog. I'll let you guys fix this, but as far as I'm concerned, there is clearly a malfunction, so my bug report stops here. Dhclient showing inconsistent behavior on 32-bit and 64-bit systems looks like a bug to me. Le 02/07/2012 11:39, Rene Engelhard a écrit : And hell, uploading a build is not as trivial as you might think it is - you need to babysit all architectures to build it and before they didn't it won't even appear in proposed-updates. My apologies. I simply didn't know it was this complicated. Keep up the good work, and a huge pat on the shoulder for putting together a great system. The german writer Kurt Tucholsky once wrote about a woman: "Zur Perfektion fehlte ihr nur das Makel". She only needs a flaw to be perfect. In the meantime, Libre Office from backports seems to work well for me, with the annoying bracket-closing bug corrected (been working with it the whole morning). And as far as I understand, it will be officially supported in Wheezy as a replacement for Open Office. So far, no show-stopper bugs on the horizon. And what prevents you from correcting the bug and publishing a working version, so a simple 'aptitude update && aptitude full-upgrade' corrects the problem ? I didn't know Debian stable was about users having to manually apply patches to solve problems. Le 01/07/2012 12:56, Rene Engelhard a écrit : I actually wanted to fix it for squeeze and had test packages ready but then I forgot it/ I never came to it/lost those packages :/ So yes, given that wheezy is there soon I think there won't be an update for this in squeeze... Thanks for the quick reply. Though this is turning into a bit of a problem for me. Context: my company (http://www.microlinux.fr) provides 100 % GNU/Linux and FOSS solutions for professional users like small town halls, public libraries, private schools, small and medium companies, etc. All the solutions - server as well as desktop - are Debian-based, e. g. stable with a handful of backports. So far, this is the first really annoying bug, since the secretary of a private school where I installed it pointed it out to me, and I couldn't help her out. Right now I'm giving Libre Office from backports a spin, but the last time I checked it out - 3.4.something on Slackware, I was mostly impressed by the myriad of bugs. If there's an easy fix to this, it would come highly appreciated.
