Bug#958788: blueman: broken dependency on iptables

2020-04-25 Thread Pierre Thierry
Package: blueman

Justification: renders package unusable

iptables 1.8.4-3 doesn't contain /sbin/iptables anymore, which breaks blueman.
On startup, I get the following error:

Bug#916492: ltris: Game doesn't really permit tucking pieces

Tetris and many of its clone permit the player to move a piece laterally to
"tuck" it that way in a hole. It is sometimes possible in LTris, when you
litterally spam the left or right button, but even doing that, it is not

Bug#909916: xfce4-settings: xfce4-display-settings doesn't try to confirm that the new config is working for the user

2018-09-29 Thread Pierre Thierry

When changing the display configuration, it is possible to end up in a state
where the system has become unusable, like a bad resolution, or blacking the
only screen available. To avoid that, many other similar tools, after the
change, ask the user if everything is OK, and revert the change after a timeout
without user input.

If netbeans 8.1 depends on libequinox-osgi-java 3.8.1, shouldn't that
be reflected in the package?

Bug#863704: RFP: yarn -- Fast, reliable, and secure dependency management for JS

2017-05-30 Thread Pierre Thierry
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: yarn
  Version : 0.16.0
  Upstream Author : Yarn Developers
* URL : https://yarnpkg.com/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Javascript
Description : Fast, reliable, and secure dependency management for JS

Fast: Yarn caches every package it downloads so it never needs to
again. It also parallelizes operations to maximize resource
utilization so install times are faster than ever.

Reliable: Using a detailed, but concise, lockfile format, and a
deterministic algorithm for installs, Yarn is able to guarantee that
an install that worked on one system will work exactly the same way on
any other system.

Secure: Yarn uses checksums to verify the integrity of every installed
package before its code is executed.

Bug#829078: Confusing status

2016-08-25 Thread Pierre Thierry
While you try to patch the problem itself, maybe an interim patch to
get a more informative status would also greatly help. As for now,
systemclt says the service is "active" when it actually didn't start
and absolutely no information is available in the logs.

● elasticsearch.service - LSB: Starts elasticsearch
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/elasticsearch; generated; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (exited) since jeu. 2016-08-18 03:40:52 CEST; 1s ago

status=0/SUCCESS)
  Process: 26549 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/elasticsearch start (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)

When starting the daemon by hand, I got the YAMLException and a 130
error code, so I'm wondering why those processes are said to have
exited with code 0.

Bug#589030: Should be able to merge a user-wide or system-wide configuration file

2010-07-14 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: ditz
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: wishlist

Currently, ditz can only use one configuration file at a time, but it
would be nice if the local configuration could be merged with a
user-wide one (as found in $HOME/.ditz-config) or a system-wide one
(/etc/ditz-config).

The problem with a single configuration file is that the name and
adress of the user have to be in it, and it defeats the purpose of
having the file tracked by version control (which is needed if you don't
use the default directory to store the bugs database).

thanks

Scribit Luciano Bello dies 11/04/2010 hora 16:25:
 Can you give more info?

I opened the w3af.postinst to see in there where the issue could be, and
found it to be empty... At some point my /var was full, and I suppose
this file wasn't written correctly. I'll file a bug against dpkg, I
guess.

Thanks for investigating this so quickly.

system into a variety of targets (including shared library and
executable).

But it is not included in Debian's build.

Bug#574470: Cannot zeroconf-advertise more than one repo with the same directory name

2010-03-18 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: mercurial-common
Version: 1.5-1
Severity: normal

Zerconf won't use the repo name provided by the [web]name configuration
or by the --name/-n command-line option and will only use the repo
working directory name as name when constructing the repo name in hg
paths:

zc-MACHINE-name

Hence it's impossible to advertise many repos sharing the same directory name.

Bug#530741: set all my mails marked NEW as OLD

2009-05-27 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.2.2-1
Severity: critical

I'm using mutt to read my emails and kontact to use a variety of PIM
application, especially for my calendar and contacts, occasionnally
taking notes (but not email).

Today I opened kontact and it complained about many .summary files not
being up to date, and just after that, all my mails previously marked
NEW in the Maildirs in ~/Mail were suddenly marked OLD instead, which is
a huge loss of information for me (I now have to browse them all to try
and recover which mails I already have read or not).

How come kmail's component in kontact MODIFIED my data without me using
it?! And why such a nonsensical modification?!

Bug#530741: set all my mails marked NEW as OLD

2009-05-27 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Scribit Modestas Vainius dies 27/05/2009 hora 16:14:
If ~/Mail is where kmail is set up to store your mails, what do you
 expect?

I used kmail a bit, ages ago, so maybe this setup was just carried
through various upgrades. Still, what is the meaning of turning all my
nex mails into old ones without me even seeing their subject?

I see that you could not have known kmail defaults but I don't think
this is only kmail fault, it is also a user error as both applications
are set up to use the same folder for mail storage.

Couldn't the two applications be nice to each other? mutt wouldn't do
any modifications to the mail storage without a clear request from the
user, I'd like the same behaviour from kmail.

Hence I believe the severity should be lowered but I'm not doing it
 just now.

Kmail's current behaviour combined with me having used before led me to
lose a whole lot of valuable information, without even asking anything
from kmail, so I still think the severity is that high, but I'm
obviously biased, as I'm pissed by what happened, so you should have the
final word.

Quickly,
Pierre

Bug#509224: ditz: Issues should have a less-changing identifier by default, like DVCS revisions usually have

2008-12-19 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: ditz
Version: 0.5-1
Severity: wishlist

As ditz is by design able to work in a distributed workflow, the
identifiers used by default should also be distributed-friendly. The
identifiers using the component name and a number have the problem that
most merges with another set of issues will renumber anything.

Like DVCS systems, ditz already uses a hash as an identifier and the
beginning of this identifier can already be used to designate an issue
to ditz, so using the beginning of this identifier, like DVCS do, would
seem to be a good idea.

For example, if component foobar has been added an issue
6f25f4fe1d2ebce20f0b97df35f5eb2ba6245586, 6f25f4fe or foobar-6f25f4fe
might be good default identifiers.

Regards,
Pierre

I understand PPP might break some network configurations if defaultroute

Bug#473879: postgresql-8.2: init.d stop action fails when service is not running

2008-04-22 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Scribit Martin Pitt dies 22/04/2008 hora 17:04:
This does not happen on a clean installation, thus downgrading the
severity. Apparenlty your server is running

I see I wasn't that clear in the bug report: the situation is that the
server IS NOT running. According to policy, asking the init.d to stop
the server while it is already stopped should report a success, and it's
not the case right now.

It has the very annoying side effect that the packages are not removable
because their prerm script attempts to stop the server and sees a
failure.

Can you please give me the output of

2008-03-30 Thread Pierre THIERRY
found 419209 2.02.33-2

thanks

I also hit this bug very recently. I was able to do snapshots until
mid-february.

Since then, when I start the creation of a snapshot (of my /home, in
this case), the lvcreate process never returns, and it seems impossible
to start any other process. Creating a new window in screen yields an
empty window where nothing happens, opening a signed mail in mutt blocks
at Invoking GPG..., and so on. The running applications, if they don't
need spawning new processes, otherwise seem to work (to which extent I
don't know, as the whole system is unusable enough that I reboot).

The snapshot was created by the following command:

$ sudo lvcreate -L 1g -n home.bak -s /dev/vg1/home

After reboot, it is visible but not a snapshot:

After I deleted a file in a shared directory and ask, through kmldonkey,
to refresh the shared files list, the file was still in the shared files
in kmldonkey's list and space was not freed on the FS (it was only when I
closed mlnet).

Bug#469779: Confirmed

2008-03-21 Thread Pierre THIERRY
retitle 469779 No UI to modify arbitrary extended attribute (EA)
thanks

Yeah, sorry, I don't know how I missed that, I discovered it today
because I went to the permissions tab for file already with ACLs, so the
dropdown lists were disabled and I noticed the Advanced Permissions
button.

I think I was misled by the fact that this bug hit me quite some time
ago, when I initially began using ACLs. Back then, I think I thoroughly
searched and there wasn't the Advanced Permissions, and I didn't check
very well this time, when I eventually decided to file a bug...

Pierre

Bug#464726:

2008-03-18 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Scribit Nigel McNie dies 19/03/2008 hora 16:07:
 What part is still broken?

I purged mahara packages and installed them back. The default server
name was 'mahara', and the /etc/mahara/servername.conf file contains:

ServerName mahara

Yet, when I go to http://localhost/, I got a page from Mahara, and thus
every other page I had available at that web server returns a 404.

So this package still totally breaks unrelated packages on installation,
with its default settings.

I still don't get why you don't setup mahara like most other packagers
do, as it is much more safe.

Quickly,
Pierre

Bug#464726: More info

2008-02-11 Thread Pierre THIERRY
/etc/mahara/servername.conf contains the following:

 8
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE! It is managed by debconf!
# It will be overwritten the next time this package is configured.
# Use 'dpkg-reconfigure mahara-apache2' instead.
ServerName localhost
 8

Note that if I do `dpkg-reconfigure -plow mahara-apache2`, I'm only
asked one question about a redirection, and even if I let the answer
empty, the ServerName remains localhost.

I'm no expert at apache configuration semantics, but it seemed to me
that having a

VirtalHost *

section should change apache's configuration globally (thus srewing the
local admin's configuration).

That's why most other files in /etc/apache2/conf.d just define an Alias
(sometimes even commented) and change configuration with Directory
sections.

Doubtfully,
Pierre

Bug#464145: linux-image-2.6.22-2-686: network performance degrades over time with peer-to-peer file transfer

2008-02-05 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: linux-image-2.6.22-2-686
Version: 2.6.22-4
Severity: normal

Everytime I use a P2P file transfer application, in my case either amule
or ktorrent, the network bandwidth systematically gets smaller and
smaller over time.

After a day using P2P, on FTP servers where I typically have 700kb/s
transfers, even after stopping all other file transfer network activity,
I usually get around 100kb/s.

Stopping and restarting my PPPoE connection usually was not enough to
get back my full bandwidth, but doing it to the underlying Ethernet
connection also was.

Could it be a memory leak or slow data corruption that arise only with
long-living connections, inside the via_rhine driver (this is my PCI
card 00:12.0)?

Bug#463592: konversation: clicking tray icon won't minimize if window is not on top

2008-02-01 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: konversation
Version: 1.0.1-4
Severity: normal

When konversation's window is partially masked by a window that KDE
maintains on top, clicking on the tray icon won't minimize, even if
konversation has the focus.

Bug#463160: Doesn't adapt size or restore position anymore

2008-01-29 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: psi
Version: 0.11-3
Severity: normal

Since the last upgrade of my psi package (from 0.10 to 0.11, I guess),
Psi won't do window resize and positioning as before. I have the options
Auto-resize contact list and Remember window sizes selected.

Before the upgrade, when restoring the Psi windows, it would be shown at
the bottom right corner of the screen if it was there when minimized,
and the window would be the exact size needed to show all the contacts
visible in the roster, nothing more.

Now, when restoring the window, most of the time it will show up in the
top right corner and only the top first contact will be visible (even
when many more contacts are present in the roster).

It seems that only when the roster didn't change between minimization
and restoration does the window show up at the expected position and
size (because they just didn't change, I guess).

  Description : Multi-agent fuzzing system

Fusil is a multi-agent system (MAS): it uses simple objets called
agents exchanging messages though asynchronus message (mail) transfer
agent (MTA). This architecture allows the whole project to be very
modular and very customisable.

Some agents do change the environment and some other watchs for errors
and strange behaviour of programs.

Bug#454562: RFP: sisc -- extensible Java based interpreter of the algorithmic language Scheme

2007-12-06 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: sisc
  Version : 1.16.6
Upstream Author : Scott G. Miller [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://sisc-scheme.org/
* License : GPL/MPL
  Programming Lang: Java, Scheme
Description : extensible Java based interpreter of the algorithmic
language Scheme

SISC is an extensible Java based interpreter of the algorithmic language
Scheme. SISC uses modern interpretation techniques, and handily
outperforms all existing JVM interpreters (often by more than an order
of magnitude).

In addition, SISC is a complete implementation of the language. The
entire R5RS Scheme standard is supported, no exceptions. This includes a
full number tower including complex number support, arbitrary precision
integers and floating point numbers, as well as hygienic R5RS macros,
proper tail recursion, and first-class continuations (not just the
escaping continuations as in many limited Scheme systems). SISC also
attempts to implement the standard as correctly as possible, while still
providing exceptional performance.

SISC also provides useful real-world extensions, such as networking,
elegant exception handling, a scope-friendly module system, support for
SLIB, numerous SRFIs, and a Java foreign-function interface.

Finally, native functionality can be added through the use of Modules,
extensions that may add new types, values, and functions to the
language. These extensions can be packaged into scopable modules at the
Scheme level as well.

Bug#454566: RFP: clojure -- a Lisp dialect for the JVM

2007-12-06 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: clojure
  Version : 20071203
Upstream Author : Rich Hickey [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://clojure.sourceforge.net/
* License : Common Public License 1.0, BSD (ASM bytecode
engineering library from INRIA)
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : a Lisp dialect for the JVM

Clojure is a dynamic programming language that targets the Java Virtual
Machine. It is designed to be a general-purpose language, combining the
approachability and interactive development of a scripting language with
an efficient and robust infrastructure for multithreaded programming.
Clojure is a compiled language - it compiles directly to JVM bytecode,
yet remains completely dynamic. Every feature supported by Clojure is
supported at runtime. Clojure provides easy access to the Java
frameworks, with optional type hints and type inference, to ensure that
calls to Java can avoid reflection.

Clojure is a dialect of Lisp, and shares with Lisp the code-as-data
philosophy and a powerful macro system. Clojure is predominantly a
functional programming language, and features a rich set of immutable,
persistent data structures. When mutable state is needed, Clojure offers
a software transactional memory system and reactive Agent system that
ensure clean, correct, multithreaded designs.

Bug#453272: net-tools: netstat reports IPv4 TCP connections as IPv6 TCP (tcp6)

2007-11-28 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: net-tools
Version: 1.60-17.2
Severity: normal

When running netstat -t, assuming I'm sitting on system foo.work.com
with open connections to the office's mail server mail.work.com and an
open SSH connection to some corporate server quux.work.com and one to my
home box bar.isp.net, with another box baz.work.com in the office
downloading something from my local web server, I have an output like
this:

tcp0 0 foo.work.com:51768 mail.work.com:imaps ESTABLISHED
tcp0 0 foo.work.com:51769 mail.work.com:imaps ESTABLISHED
tcp0 0 foo.work.com:36155 quux.work.com:ssh ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 foo.work.com:wwwbaz.work.com:59359 ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 foo.work.com:38310 bar.isp.net:ssh ESTABLISHED

The two last connections are reported as tcp6,n although foo.work.com
and baz.work.com have no routable IPv6 addresses. foo has a link-local
IPv6 address, but baz most probably don't (a windows box) and bar has a
public IPv6 address, but is unreachable in IPv6 from foo.

and IPv6. If that's a normal behaviour for such services, documenting
it in netstat's manpage would be very helpful.

Bug#452995: RFP: odb -- Omniscient debugger for the JVM

2007-11-26 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: odb
  Version : 1.5
Upstream Author : Bil Lewis [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.lambdacs.com/debugger/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Omniscient debugger for the JVM

Omniscient Debugging is the idea of collecting time stamps at each
point of interest (setting a value, making a method call,
throwing/catching an exception) in a program and then allowing the
programmer to use those time stamps to explore the history of that
program run. The ODB is an implementation of this idea written in Java.
It inserts code into the program's classes as they are loaded and when
the program runs, the events are recorded.

Bug#450081: kpdf: doesn't use memory aggressively as configured to

2007-11-06 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: kpdf
Version: 4:3.5.7-4
Severity: normal

Although I selected Aggressive use of memory in kpdf's configuration
(in the performance tab), following pages aren't rendered until either I
see a part of them or I scroll just (that is, the viewpoint reaches the
very end of the current page).

It also doesn't seem to retain more than 4 or 5 pages rendered. On a
hundred pages of text PDF, scrolling back or forward one or two pages
hits pages that have to be rendered again.

It's also strange that under supposedly similar conditions (same
applications running) a 16 pages of text PDF was kept rendered entirely
some hours ago, while now I can't get more than 7 pages kept rendered...

Bug#449489: RFP: ikarus -- free optimizing incremental native-code compiler for R6RS Scheme

2007-11-05 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: ikarus
  Version : 0.0.1
Upstream Author : Abdulaziz Ghuloum [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~aghuloum/ikarus/
* License : GPLv3
  Programming Lang: C/Scheme
Description : free optimizing incremental native-code compiler for R6RS
Scheme

Ikarus is an optimizing compiler, so your Scheme code will run fast
without the need to port hot spots to C for performance. With an
incremental compiler, you don't need a separate compilation step to make
your program run fast. The best part is that the compiler itself is
fast, capable of compiling thousands of lines of code per second.

Finally, Ikarus is an R6RS compiler. R6RS is the latest revision of the
Scheme standard. The preliminary release of Ikarus supports over 80% of
the most important features R6RS, and later releases will bring Ikarus
closer to full R6RS conformance. R6RS libraries, scripts, record types,
condition system, exception handling, unicode strings, bytevectors,
hashtable, and enumerations are among the supported features.

Bug#446814: should support multiple places for data

2007-10-15 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: qingy
Version: 0.9.6-1
Severity: wishlist

In its config file, qingy seems only to support one place for its
themes, although it may be highly desirable to support many, to allow
for system-local files as well as packaged ones (e.g. have themes in
/usr/share/qingy provided by packages and /usr/local/share/qingy by the
local admin).

The same holds for screensavers.

So themes_dirS and screensavers_dirS variables would be great.

Bug#443136: I confirm this bug

2007-10-09 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Scribit Christian Marillat dies 09/10/2007 hora 09:23:
Regarding this bug: #443136, tries to create directories in wrong
  order. I confirm it.
Even with a 'sitecopy -i' before the first update ?

Reading the manpage, I'm pretty sure I don't want to do that, it says
about '-i': making sitecopy think there are NO files on the remote
server. But this is the contrary. There are NO files on the local side,
and the remote side is fully populated.

I've moved my repository to another machine two weeks ago without
 problems.

Maybe that's just the manpage (or the bug is between the chair and the
keyboard). What did you do to get a fresh local copy of an existing
remote site?

Curiously,
Pierre
