Bug#762024: installation-guide-amd64: Please add caution warning to instructions to create a usb bootable stick

2014-09-17 Thread Prekates Alexandros
Package: installation-guide-amd64
Severity: normal

In Debian GNU/Linux Installation Guide in section 4.3.1 Preparing a USB stick
using a hybrid CD or DVD image [1]
it says:

# cp debian.iso /dev/sdX
# sync

Unfortunately i used /dev/sdb1 spenting a couple of hours
trying to figure out why my mobo would boot my usb flash with
the debian image resulting in the thread:
''USB bootable debian stick wont boot on 890FXA-GD65 mobo''[2]
in the debian-user list where after some messages a friend send
me an analytical example [3] understanding my error which in short
was that i wrote the image to a partition not to the whole drive.

So i think that it'd be helpfull the aforementioned 4.3.1 paragraph
to have a warning of caution to use the name of disk not partition.

I know that in better days with less fatique and more time i could have
think of my mistake but under pressure i blindly followed the manual
substituting the 'X' with what ever i like.

Bug#712737: release-notes: Ambiguity in section 4.6 regarding whether installer installs kernel-metapackage

2013-06-18 Thread Prekates Alexandros
Package: release-notes
Severity: normal
Tags: d-i

In the 4.6 it says:

..
..
4.6.1. Installing the kernel metapackage

When you dist-upgrade from squeeze to wheezy, it is strongly recommended that
you install a linux-image-* metapackage, if you haven't done so before. This
package may be installed automatically by the dist-upgrade process. You can
verify this by running:

..
.

The ambiguity is that it leaves unclear whether the dist-upgrade will install
or not the kernel metapackage.

If i 'read' it another way maybe the intention of the author was: The dist-
upgrade process can install automatically the new kernel but in order to do
that you should
have in your current stable version installed the kernel metapackage

Bug#526764: devilspie: Devilspie processes hastily the window_title property of a window.

2009-05-03 Thread Prekates Alexandros
Package: devilspie
Version: 0.22-1
Severity: normal

With Devilspie running and having the rule

(if
   ( contains ( window_name ) libc )
   (set_workspace 4 )
)

and if i open eg:
  $ evince libc6.pdf

the new evince window wont be repositioned correctly .

But having that window opened if i restart devilspie that
window will be repositioned.

I guess devilspie in the first case will read the property JUST when
evince starts , in which case the it has another title (which u can see
if u start evince with no parameters) .

So i guess this is partly a bug partly a wishlist report.

Does anyone know how to correct this? Or its sth that's out of
devilspie workings.

thanks.
