Bug#612202: virtualbox-ose: Starting the VirtualBox Manager makes currently running VMs eat all the memory
Package: virtualbox-ose Version: 4.0.2-dfsg-1 Severity: important Tags: upstream Hello, I have VirtualBox for awhile and it worked fine... then I updated it several days ago. If I have a virtual machine running, and I start the VirtualBox Manager (Application Accessories VirtualBox OSE), the VM process (not the manager) eats all the host's memory, including SWAP, that causes a very big latency. Then, when all RAM (3GB) and SWAP (8GO) are used, the process is killed by the host operating system. When I start the VirtualBox Manager again, the virtual machine(s) is displayed as avorted. The problem happens with all my virtual machines; they shouldn't use more than 256MB or 512MB memory. The idea was to determine whether you were running “just” a 2.6.32(.y) upstream release, or whether you had some patches on top of it. Since you're using Debian's source, that's alright, you should have DRM patches, which is good. (It might be nice to know which exact kernel version you fetched through apt-get source, though.) I tryed to do it, but attaching gdb to X makes all my computer freeze after pressing Ctrl + Alt + F7 (whether I type continue or not). I run startx from tty1 and gdb from tty2. But I have a new idea about the why of the bug : it has more chances to appear if I've underclocked my CPUs and if the Xine window is bigger.

I tryed to extract it in a directory (called /home/xxx/archive/), but I got an error saying I have no permission to do it (create a directory in /home/xxx/) Then, without closing the extract window, I used chown in a shell to change the owner of /home/xxx/, and a new directory appeared in the extract window, called xxx, that was the xxx directory itself. Closing and reopening the extract window fixed this bug.
