Bug#403130: Info received (krusader is HORRIBLY UNSTABLE in REMOTE/FTP, for OVER A YEAR, for the LOVE OF GOD!))
Hello, it seems that the bug is still there (version in debian experimental). Simply reproduce: connect to FTP and hold ctrl-R so it will refresh meany times; Tested on few boxes by few people - it crashes in few seconds of refreshing page. It means probably that there still are problems with FTP, refresing views, etc.. Any one can confirm in lastest development version? Thanks Rafał -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Package: readline-common Version: 5.2-1 Severity: grave This is a TERRIBLE mistake! We scare away the new users. By default the shell (bash) and some console programs make beeping sounds in some conditions. You might not realize, but for newbie users this is 1. horrible irritating, when one have a loud PC speaker 2. impossible to fix yet (he just starts to learn debian, linux, console) beep. Huh? BEEP. How do I turn that off? BP Oh my god, lets go back to windoBEEP! quick! Advanced user will turn it back on in seconds. Newbiew will be annoyed for it for days. Remember not everyone is as advanced in Linux as You, and pissing off the new user at first occassion is not good. Smack in the head is NOT a good way to start a date. For example fix this, as Debian Devel suggested: Cyis raf256: appears the set bell-style none is actually in /usr/share/readline/inputrc but commented out Please stop scarring away new users! -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I checked the today's (2006-12-23 23:00) CVS version - -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/krusader co make -f Makefile.cvs ./configure --enable-debug make valgrind krusader/krusader it did crashed. Best way to reproduce is: - - copy directory both ways (from/to remote) - - create and delte files, dirs - - edit failes by F4 key (several of them prefferably) - - somtimes problems with inet connection seem to speedup the crash - - I connect to FTP, with password in kdewallet - - default settings of krusader - - doing all the things above in same time (or soem of them Im not confident which steps are important) This time crash occured +/- in a moment where there was one or two copy processes in the background and I was either creating a new dir, deleting it, or just enterint a remote dir. After the crash the copy window (1% completed) remained visible (but it seem to be stalled, I just closed it) The crash reported by valgrind: ==15948== ==15948== Thread 2: ==15948== Invalid read of size 4 ==15948==at 0x5DAFA6E: _nl_locale_subfreeres (setlocale.c:455) ==15948==by 0x5DAF7C6: free_mem (gconv_db.c:792) ==15948==by 0x5DAFF21: __libc_freeres (set-freeres.c:47) ==15948==by 0x40191F6: _vgnU_freeres (vg_preloaded.c:60) ==15948==by 0x5B5A2F0: __pthread_manager (manager.c:157) ==15948==by 0x5D75349: clone (clone.S:119) ==15948== Address 0x0 is not stack'd, malloc'd or (recently) free'd ==15948== ==15948== Process terminating with default action of signal 11 (SIGSEGV) ==15948== Access not within mapped region at address 0x0 ==15948==at 0x5DAFA6E: _nl_locale_subfreeres (setlocale.c:455) ==15948==by 0x5DAF7C6: free_mem (gconv_db.c:792) ==15948==by 0x5DAFF21: __libc_freeres (set-freeres.c:47) ==15948==by 0x40191F6: _vgnU_freeres (vg_preloaded.c:60) ==15948==by 0x5B5A2F0: __pthread_manager (manager.c:157) ==15948==by 0x5D75349: clone (clone.S:119) ==15948== ==15948== ERROR SUMMARY: 782 errors from 35 contexts (suppressed: 174 from 9) ==15948== malloc/free: in use at exit: 7,209,447 bytes in 234,135 blocks. ==15948== malloc/free: 4,485,037 allocs, 4,250,902 frees, 161,195,920 bytes allocated. ==15948== For counts of detected errors, rerun with: -v ==15948== searching for pointers to 234,135 not-freed blocks. ==15948== checked 7,394,752 bytes. ==15948== ==15948== LEAK SUMMARY: ==15948==definitely lost: 645,194 bytes in 28,416 blocks. ==15948== possibly lost: 3,504 bytes in 12 blocks. ==15948==still reachable: 6,560,749 bytes in 205,707 blocks. ==15948== suppressed: 0 bytes in 0 blocks. ==15948== Use --leak-check=full to see details of leaked memory. Bug#403747: flash player crashes entire firefox
Package: firefox Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2 Severity: major I rated it major, because IMHO it is intolerable that a flaw in flash can crash entire browser. Actually I think this bug should be a bug in flash player but I was not shure which package is responsible, please correct it. When we go to youtube (I tested it on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xEzGIuY7kweurl= ) the flash starts (in my case it waits for the mouse click on flash object, since I use flash blocker). if I quickly press the fullscreen-zoom button inside playing flash (right-most button in that youtubes' flash based player) and if I do it quick (before the movie actually starts playing), then firefox crashes. ii firefox 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2 ii firefox-dbg 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2 ii firefox-dom-inspector 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2 ii firefox-gnome-support 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2 ii firefox-webdeveloper 1.0.2-1 ii gstreamer0.8-swfdec 0.8.12-6 ii libswfdec0.30.3.6-2.1 ii swf-player 0.3.6-2.1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ firefox -g GNU gdb 6.4.90-debian Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Bug#403130: [Krusader-devel] Re: Bug#403130: krusader is HORRIBLY UNSTABLE in REMOTE/FTP, for OVER A YEAR, for the LOVE OF GOD!
Karai Csaba wrote: 1. Is it possible that you don't have debug mode Krusader? How to install it on debian? 2. I guessed browsing the stack trace, that - you want to delete some files from the FTP server (KMessageBox::warningContinueCancelList is called only that place in Krusader) - which one did you choose, continue or cancel? - which crashed? I choosed OK. 3. Do you use keyboard (Del) or mouse (right click) to delete those files? Keyboard I guess you've used keyboard because of QETWidget::translateKeyEvent, - if the crash occurs only with mouse, please compile the newest CVS version of Krusader. I've fixed a similar crash Nope 4. Which KDE version are you using? KDE 3.5.0, KDE 3.5.1 had some problems with list view handling. Konqueror also crashed. I had problems with SuSE 10.1 and KDE. After I upgraded my KDE it went correctly. I use KDE 3.5.4 without any problem. ii kdelibs 3.5.5a.dfsg.1-5 ii kdebase 3.5.4-2 5. Do you have valgrind installed? If you have, that may ease correcting the bug. - compile a debug mode Krusader apt-get source and.. ? append some option? btw it would be nice to have a krusader-dbg mode in Debian valgrind --tool=memcheck ${mypath}/krusader This tool will write to stdout, what really happens. If you could send these informations before the crash, it's almost sure, that we may fix or tell you what to do. I am installing -dbg of kdebase and kdelibs In the meantime, yet another bug report I think it occured right after a copy from local to remote (started by F5 key) finished (or was it right after I pressed the ENTER / OK?) Package: debian-installer Version: debian testing net install from around 2006.11.01 Severity: normal When I entered a manual APT server, and that server was offline, then installer hanged on scanning mirror. I checked on second console, the hanging process was wget morror-address I tried killing it but then installer respastarted it, and again and again. IMHO it should have a timeout and report error instead restarting wget. to give option to enter other, working address. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: installation-reports Version: ? Severity: minor Installed from debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso I am not shure how to check exact version number? This is not clear. I choose to manualy edit partitions table, 3 partitions I selected as use as FAT32 and mount point /win1 /win2 and /win3. Other partition was reformated as JFS for mount point / there also was ext2 boot and swap. After question-warning about formating the boot, swap and root after few seconds an error box apperared: windowswindow~1.log is 92k, but it has 41 clusters (164k) ERROR !!! Ignore Cancel dmesg -c on second console didnt showed anything relevant, only information that swap was mounted/added. Perhaps the fat system there was damaged before and debian tried to mount it? But if so then this windows-fault, not-our-business error probably should be displayed in more OMG, we failed, The Drama! way not to scare newbies? After ignoring it there was another error, FIle system is reporting the freee space as 409170 clusters, not 409199 clusters. Warning! -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: firefox Version: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-1 Severity: normal While editing a textarea it is not possible to place the cursor at very end of the text - I can place the cursor on the last character of last line, but not right after it. In all other text editors it is normal to be able to place the cursor AFTER last character of last line, so that you can delete the last character by backspace or append something the normal way instead using delete key first. Package: konqueror Version: 3.5.4-2 Severity: normal Some brain-dead web serwer send their sites with incorrect MIME information, and konqueror offers to download the page or open it in Kate (instead displaying it) While this is a fine approach to broken sites, I think it would be best if Konqueror would also introduce View that broken document as a page key. It will allow to use the page if it is mendatory (for example Symlink router www admin page is broken in such way), yet it will still inform the user about the fact that page is broken. Firefox is in background with window Kaffeine plugin started, and kaffeine is playing the video. When I go back to Firefox and open othe pages with other video, then quite often the browser crashes after a while of doing so (few minutes). Sounds seem broken in bzflag, randomly when I restart the game: 1) sound is very distorted in a strange way, sounding like if the first 0.1 second of sample is looped instead playing entire sample or something 2) sound is o.k. at first (in the game menu) but becomes distorted when I conntect to a server 3) game crashes with segmentation fault when I connect and press i to join game (I think this started when I use password with username) 4) sound is fine. If sound is fine then sometimes after few minutes of play sounds becomes suddenly distorted again. I think it becomes distorted especially when the computer is under heavy load - perhaps problem with timing of sound thread or something? I use 2.6.17.7 kernel with 1000 MHz timing. Update: this bug is not just grave, it is HORRIBLE - renders entire KDE unusable, after that upgrade almost no KDE application works (Ksnapshot can't save, krusader can't operate on files, konqueror dont load any page, amarok do not start, and so on) In addition to MIME, the applications complain about io_slave kio_slave Part of strace which I think my be relevant access(/usr/lib/kde3/plugins/imageformats/., F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) access(/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats/., F_OK) = 0 open(/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_LARGEFILE|O_DIRECTORY) = 12 lstat64(/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/imageformats/libqmng.so, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=21016, ...}) = 0 access(/usr/bin/imageformats/., F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) this are parts of strace when in example KSnapshot is about to show the error message about MIME types. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#345736: libsafe 2.0-16-6 do not stop half of its own example exploits
Package: libsafe Version: 2.0-16-6 Severity: serious Libsafe 2.0-16-6 seem to not stop it's own, attached to sources, example exploits, which would make it quite useless if confirmed. That would mean that it gives false feeling of security (in matter of strcmp and related functions exploiting) when it fails to protect users from it. Perhaps its even a grave bug since such protection actually is the main and only function on that lib. Please verifie that possible bug, Im newbie in terms of reporting bugs to Debian project. Also libsafe seem to interfear with other programs, like in my prvious bug report Bug#345728 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/cre.os/libsafe/libsafe-2.0-16/exploits$ ./t1 This program tries to use strcpy() to overflow the buffer.
