Bug#1010775: wpasupplicant 2:2.10-8~bpo11+1 in bullseye-backports creates an unmet dependency issue with network-manager 1.30.0-2 in bullseye

Me too.

I had a similar experience to that related in comment 10, requiring
re-installation of network-manager and dependencies from .deb files.
Due to the dependency problem between wpasupplicant and network-manager,
removing network-manager may be offered as a mitigation by apt and
accepted without consideration of the consequences. And if that
happens, transferring the .deb files needed to correct the issue from
another system may be necessary. Another approach on a relatively
simple network may be to configure networking with manual tools such as
ip, ifconfig, and route, after which recovery with apt can be effected.

In light of the severe consequences that may be encountered, is
it possible that the 2:2.10-8-bpo11+1 version of wpasupplicant
can be be removed from bullseye-backports until the required
network-manager version can be added?

Bug#995125: linux: Realtek ethernet driver r8169 lacks support for chip chip XID 54b

2021-10-03 Thread Wright, Randy (HPE Servers Linux)
I am pleased to report that commit e6d6ca6e12049dfbff6ac8b029678d2d2c55c34f
does provide the
support for chip XID 54b. However, I had to apply two other patches, and
temporarily revert and
then re-apply a third patch to apply to the linux-source-5.10 kernel version
5.10.46-5.

Attached is the bash script I used to apply the patches, which are the
following:

389cb1ecc86e6c6f210424017cf930a81ddfbf2d..e6d6ca6e12049dfbff6ac8b029678d2d2c55c34f.patch

With the patch built in, success is seen in dmesg logs, and NetworkManager uses
the nic with no problems.

The nominated patch:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/patch/?id=e6d6ca6e12049dfbff6ac8b029678d2d2c55c34f
appears from inspection to support the chip 0x54b that I reported.

If your question is whether this patch alone suffices, I found
it will not apply cleanly on the version of
drivers/net/ethernet/realtek/r8169_main.c
found in the bullseye 5.10.46 kernel. I will attach the log from:

debian/bin/test-patches -f amd64 -j 6

I will attempt to identify a small set of predecessor patches that permit the
nominated
patch to be installed.

Bug#926241: noarch

2019-04-02 Thread Randy Barlow
We did something like this in Fedora, if you are interested in
considering a similar implementation. We decided to make pure Erlang
packages be what we call "noarch" packages, and to move those into
/usr/share/erlang/lib. Let me know if this interests you and I can
point you at patches we have for it.

I don't see that there even is any package mythtv in Debian.

Are you using some 3rd party repository? MythTV depend on
mysql-server-virtual, which can be satisfied with any version or
variant of mysql. If MythTV really only accepts certain mysql-server
package, then you should file a bug against MythTV.

This has nothing to do with mythtv, I have not even tried to install it yet!
I have tried to install zoneminder though. Either way mysql-server will not
install on this system, which is a fresh install, new hardware, new system.

If you want to do that, then purge the old installation so that there

 install MySQL 5.5. from scratch.

I was not aware that MariaDB had superceeded mysql. Will try reinstalling it

 Great.

I'm no DD so I can't sponsor your package but I can give comments
 regarding quality of your package.

  - Question: looks like most of the compiler and runtime (inside
src/vm/...?) is written in C++ - is it so that due to some constraint
the sw is only usable in amd64 hw ; or could the architecture be
Any? Jit-compiler maybe?
  - In debian/control the long description might be longer. According
to homepage content, there is already quite set of features in
the language .. as a programmer choosing a programming language
I might be intested in knowing a bit about features, design goals,
what is it really good for etc. ?
  - debian/docs is 0 bytes long ; I think it might be removed if it
is empty.
  - debian/README.source is from template, if there is no description
about source package required, the file may be deleted
  - a debian/watch -file could be very useful and works well
with github, see man uscan for examples.
  - It might be easier if the sources inside .orig.tar.gz would
be inside directory named packagename-version instead of src.
  - Lintian gives warnings

Package: cups-filters
Version: 1.0.43-1+b1

After installation of cups 1.7.1-2, HP LaserJet P1505 stopped working.

I found this Ubuntu bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/foomatic-filters/+bug/1019662
that described what I saw in the error_log.

I downloaded foomatic-filters:
apt-get download foomatic-filters
Get:1 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main foomatic-filters armel
4.0.17-1 [159 kB]

I extracted foomatic-rip and replaced the foomatic-rip from cups-filter.

Now the HP printer works.

Looks like the bug fix in foomatic-filters
did not get into cups-filters.

Bug#706218: iceweasel in kde4 can't use socks5 proxy, but in gnome3 can

2013-04-26 Thread Randy Li
Package: iceweasel
Version: 10.0.12esr-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
I want to use socks5 proxy in iceweael in kde4 environment.
The socks5 proxy is made by ssh -D.
After sat iceweasel, I find I can't visit any website and home button
doesn't
work(clicked but not to query home page)
I entered ip or url into address box then press enter, it just refresh
tag
(without change anything) and address box won't change too. And I didn't
see
   it query page.
But with the same setting, iceweasel works in gnome3.

That's still insufficient information.

What version of mplayer do you use?
(dpkg -l | grep mplayer)
How do you run it?
What does it output (in the console)?
Does it work if you use something else than vdpau?
e.g. mplayer -vo x11 ...

How is your nvidia software setup?
Run (on the system where you have the problems)
   reportbug -N 685907
this will collect useful information and send it to this bug report.

And probably before you do all this, first update to the latest driver
version in unstable.

In your first mail, you were talking about compiling something. What
are you trying to do?
If you are compiling mplayer yourself - please try the mplayer package
in Debian - does this work?

Andreas

The mplayer is from svn
I run it mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau

Bug#656662: ruby1.9.1: Missing emacs inf-ruby.el and others

2012-01-20 Thread Randy Coulman
Package: ruby1.9.1
Version: 1.9.3.0-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I see that the ruby1.9.1-elisp package has been removed because
ruby-mode.el has been incorporated into emacs23. However, this doesn't
account for the other *.el files in the ruby1.9.1 source tree, such as
inf-ruby.el, ruby-electric.el, and others.

Please consider restoring the ruby1.9.1-elisp package, but removing
ruby-mode.el to avoid conflicts with emacs23.

Bug#646553: policykit-1-gnome: Not able to authenticate and mount luks volume with new version.

2011-10-24 Thread Randy
Package: policykit-1-gnome
Version: 0.104-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

With version .104-1, I'm no longer able to mount my luks volume. When trying to
mount the volume a window opens asking me to enter my password to unlock the
volume. After entering the luks password, another window opens saying
Authentication is required to mount the device and asks for the root
password. After entering the root password another window opens, once more
saying Authentication is required to mount the device. With this window there
isn't any location to enter the root password, only a cancel button and
authenticate button. Clicking on either of these buttons does nothing. I am not
able to close the window, I must use the kill command to close it.

After downgrading to .102-2 the problem is resolved.

Bug#611153: KMail not setting unread messages properly

2011-01-25 Thread Randy Edwards
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.4.7-3

Running testing's Courier-IMAP 4.8.0-3 on the server, I access my e-mail
just fine.

However, when I selected and then moved 100 or so messages from a folder and
dragged/dropped them into the trash folder, KMail did so just fine. But on
the next mail check KMail reports the full count of 100+ messages as
unread in the original folder. Going into the original folder resets the
unread message count, and the messages were indeed moved to the trash.

This is a persistent problem. Closing KMail and reopening it still shows the
100+ messages as unread. Unsubscribing and resubscribing to the IMAP folder
does not cure the problem either.

I've tested this problem on other folders and I seem to be able to replicate
it. I've now got 3 folders that show incorrect numbers of unread messages.
:-)

http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/8/27/249

that patch seems to be for ecryptfs only, while Celejar uses dm-crypt.
second, the patch just ensures that CRYPTO_ECB and CRYPTO_CBC are
selected along with ECRYPT_FS. but Celejar does have both CRYPTO_ECB and
 CRYPTO_CBC selected.

ack.

the problem rather is that loading the cbc blockcipher module simply
does nothing. the module is listed in /proc/modules, but the blockcipher
 is still missing from /proc/crypto.

the problem is not reproducible with a debian/unstable 2.6.30.6 kernel,
even though it has cbc compiled as module as well. but if I recompile
the same kernel sources with Celejars kernel .config, the problem
occurs. thus it must be related to the kernel config in some way.

add cc: linux-cry...@vger.kernel.org -- maybe someone there can help out.

Bug#534576: ktorrent: Sends size of seeded torrent as downloaded

2009-06-25 Thread Randy
Package: ktorrent
Version: 3.1.4+dfsg.1-1
Severity: important

When starting to seed a torrent, that is a torrent you have already downloaded
or you created, ktorrent verifies the existing data, then reports to the
tracker that it has downloaded that amount, even
though you have not downloaded even a single byte. On trackers that maintain
records of uploaded and downloaded bytes (roughly 100% of them), this is
absolutely, positively unacceptable! Ktorrent needs
to only report actual bytes downloaded from peers, and not claim already
existing data was downloaded. I would have reported this as a critical bug
were it not for many people only using open trackers,
as this makes ktorrent unusable for seeding - anyone who attempts to use
ktorrent on a private tracker will, like me, find they need to contact every
tracker they're registered with and ask the admin to
manually fix their statistics due to the broken report ktorrent sends.

Bug#330403: [PATCH] sysrq: more explicit, less terse help messages

2009-01-02 Thread Randy Dunlap
From: Randy Dunlap randy.dun...@oracle.com

Eliminate sysrq terse help mode; make sysrq help messages more
meaningful (more explicit/verbose).
Make the sysrq action letter clearer by listing it explicitly
in more sysrq help messages (when it is not simple/clear).

The SysRq help message now looks like this:

SysRq : HELP : loglevel(0-9) reBoot terminate-all-tasks(E)
memory-full-oom-kill(F) kill-all-tasks(I) saK show-backtrace-all-active-cpus(L)

show-all-timers(Q) unRaw Sync show-task-states(T) Unmount show-blocked-tasks(W)

DFS support does require configuration of /etc/request-key.conf for the
upcalls, AIUI. Have you configured this, and if so, how?

According to the comments at the top of source/client/cifs.spnego.c, the

 Have you done this?

Anyway, it looks like 2.6.26-1 is the first Debian kernel version that
 enables the DFS upcall support.

I can now confirm that the 2.6.26 kernel, along with Samba 3.2.1 does indeed
fix DFS support in my company's configuration. I did not have to make any
changes to /etc/request-key.conf to make it work.

I wasn't aware of this, so no, I haven't done this. Would failure to do so
continue to result in recursive directory listings, or would I get an error
message here?

OK, I'll have to wait until that version hits testing before I can try it.

Bug#460164: smbfs: Recursive directory listing with CIFS

2008-01-10 Thread Randy Coulman
Package: smbfs
Version: 3.0.28-1
Severity: important

With the upgrade to 3.0.28-1, I am now unable to use any Windows shares
mounted from a Windows 2003 Server using DFS. This is because CIFS does
not yet fully support DFS and the SMBFS-related scripts that I was using
have
been replaced with forwarders to CIFS.

When I mount a Windows share from such a server, I am able to see the
top-level directories in this share, but if I 'ls' any of these
directories, I get another list of the top-level directories.

Please consider keeping SMBFS support available until CIFS is able to
replace all reasonable uses of SMBFS. As things stand today, I am
completely unable to access any Windows shares on my company's network.

 According to
 http://archives.free.net.ph/message/20080110.202840.d90c205e.en.html,
 DFS
support for Linux CIFS is already on the roadmap for inclusion in 2.6.25,
which will be out well before the lenny release. I realize this doesn't
help you with your immediate need for smbfs support, but I do think that
dropping smbfs in favor of cifs is the right course of action for lenny.

I understand this, and I totally agree. I just think the timing of the
change was off. There should be plenty of time to completely drop smbfs
after DFS support is in and working. Leaving smbfs in place but deprecated
until cifs is able to do the whole job that smbfs did would be preferable,
IMO.

Given that I haven't seen a lot of traffic on this issue in my web searches
suggests I'm in a smaller minority than I thought, though. I would have
expected DFS-based servers to be a lot more common than they seem to be.

Thanks for the reply,
Randy

Bug#320938: We see this too

2006-12-18 Thread Randy Coulman

We see a similar hang in vt-is-UTF8 when doing apt-get dist-upgrades
(from 1:0.2.3dbs-55 to 1:0.2.3dbs-65). We do automated upgrades of our
systems, and we redirect the output of the dist-upgrade to a log file.
We see a couple of escape sequences in the log file, which suggests to
me that the character sequence is being written to stdout or stderr.

I have been unable to make a small, simple test case for this, but I am
willing to work on this to provide additional information if necessary.
